Lamentablemente, nuestra experiencia en este restaurante colombiano en Austin fue muy decepcionante. Pedimos empanadas y la carne estaba completamente insípida, sin sal y con muy mal sabor. El ajiaco fue aún peor: básicamente era agua con algunos ingredientes flotando, sin la textura ni el sabor tradicional que uno espera de este plato. No tenía consistencia ni profundidad. En total pagamos $115 dólares por tres empanadas, dos ajiacos, un perro caliente, un jugo y dos gaseosas, lo cual nos pareció completamente desproporcionado para la calidad y cantidad recibida. La cuenta se sintió como un abuso considerando el nivel de la comida. El servicio tampoco ayudó. La mesera tuvo una actitud poco amable y distante durante toda la atención. Además, nos incluyeron automáticamente una propina de $20 siendo solo cuatro personas. Unfortunately I have to compare this colombian food to the colombian food i get in NY. It was just okay. I ordered an arepa with shredded beef. It was a ton of beef, so that was good. We were here for a futbol game and they do have a great outside space for games, but the service was kind of weird. Some people got regular plates and silverware, but for some reason they brought all our food in plastic/take out containers. They were passing around some buñuelos that were hard as rocks. They were so bad, my dog didn't even want it. I think this place is good for watching games, but if you want more authentic food, i don't think this is it. read more

At first, we were so excited to have found this place. We ordered the Picada Sampler. The food came out a little warm but not hot. Within a minute or two everything was cold. As if the plate/food was not heated properly. I ate a little bit but my wife kept eating hers. We had left overs and took it home. When we got home about 25 to 30 minutes later, she ended up getting sick and threw up what she had eaten at Sabor Colombia. Although we told the waiter that the food not hot, he didn't offered to warm it up or make us a new sample plate. The totones in the Picada Sampler were supper hard, like they were old and refried. However, their drinks were really good. Space and ambiance is small but comfortable. Easy to accommodate a large party. Sabor Colombia is a small restaurant with authentic Colombian cuisine. Inside there is upbeat Latin music playing. They have the best pan de bono in Texas that I've ever had, hands down. I could eat these all day! I enjoyed their refreshing jugo de mora. My main dish, huevos pericos, was okay. The eggs were mixed with great ingredients but it wasn't enough to save the flat eggs. My arepa de queso that accompanied the huevos pericos had a great consistency, yet the overall flavor was bland. The tables are small and make for a tight fit for parties of more than two. The waitstaff were very attentive and polite. I wish all restaurants had such kind service like Sabor Colombia. There are two single stall restrooms, one for men and one for women. We've been to their newer location in Austin a couple of times, and were told that the Round Rock location has a more elaborate menu., since the newer location is still growing their offerings. This location is also a bakery, so you'll be pleased to find most of your favorite Colombian pastries here. My favorite is Pan de Bono, but they were completely out by the time we arrived, on a Sunday, early afternoon. I guess that means they're very popular, so that's a good thing! We were welcomed with warm greetings and smiles(felt like home or family), and were quickly seated and handed menus. They were even so kind to bring some coloring books and crayons to keep our children entertained while we ordered and until the food arrived. The place is adequately spacious, tables and chairs look fairly new or in good condition. Lots of natural lighting, and if you get a seat by the window, you can raise or lower the shade to your liking. Two flat screens along the sides, and a huge projector in the middle, so that everyone can watch the soccer games. Some minor encounters with a couple of flies, but thankfully at some point they disappeared before our food arrived. On their menu, we didn't see Cheese Empanadas, only beef. So we asked if they had cheese empanadas, and sure enough, they did! That was what our children wanted and they were well pleased. I ordered an appetizer of Arepa con queso, and I also ordered la bandeja paisa. I was expecting them to bring the appetizer first, and my entree shortly after, but instead they brought it all at once. This was somewhat annoying, but I was ok. I took a few delightful bites off of the arepa, and then decided to save it for tomorrow's breakfast at home with coffee. It was perfect! Delicious! Highly recommend it! The bandeja paisa was excellent, as expected! White rice is relatively easy to make, but very easy to mess up. Their white rice was absolutely perfect! Their beans were rich in flavor and reminded me of my mom's amazing cooking. The proteins were all good and the portion was just right. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the small arepa that usually comes with the dish doesn't really taste like anything, and I'm not so sure why it's added to the dish. It doesn't require it if it's lacking flavor. But it's probably just a matter of personal preference. My wife ordered the sobrebarriga and she thought it was very nicely plated. The beef was very tender, not difficult to chew at all. A really nice flavorful sauce that came with it. The onions and tomatoes tasted fresh. She thinks they put too much salad dressing, and should probably offer the dressing on the side. She also agrees that the rice was perfectly cooked, and the ratio of sauce to rice was perfect. In Latin cooking, you usually get avocado with the peel on, but at a restaurant I suppose you'd expect it to be removed; it wasn't. I agree, as the same occurred with my dish. I loved their freshly squeezed mango juice with water. Our server recommended it with water, instead of milk, and I was pleased. Definitely eating here again, since we absolutely love Colombian food. Glad to find wonderful places to eat that remind me of NYC. The chefs and servers were great, attentive, friendly, and pleasant. They do amazing work! read more

This is a small place, but it seems it has a good sized patio, but it was just too hot to even go outside. You pick your table and scan the QR code for the menu. I had the passion fruit juice and my daughter went with the guava one. Both very good. For starters, we had empanadas and fried yucca. Both gluten free and delicious! The empanadas are some kind of corn fritters filled with cheese/chicken or beef. We got the portion with 6 small ones. The yucca were perfectly fried. Very crispy on the outside and yet soft on the inside. For mains, my husband and daughter had the bistec a caballo and I had the bandeja paisa. Both huge portions! Family and I came here on Mother's Day. Service was TERRIBLE outside. All of us who were sitting outside were being forgotten. People from other tables kept on getting up to look for their waiters. Food was good, even though I got the wrong order. I confirmed twice that I wanted chicken and not beef, even the receipt said chicken. This was my second visit to the restaurant, I was delighted the first time I went with the treatment and attention. So I came back very excited with 2 friends and showed him around. The food was good and the service was not bad. The problem lies in the unethical practices of the waitress. At the time of paying the bill they do not give you the complete invoice, they only show you the total on an electronic device with the option of leaving a tip and making the payment. I left them an 18% tip. My surprise was when I received the confirmation of the payment by phone, they had already included in the invoice another 18% additional service fee. Such a great small mom n' pop-esque place. The food is delicious and the staff are the nicest people. The service was very fast, and one of the staff members (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) made some great recommendations. I got the patacon and the beef empanada (I wish i had a picture of the empanada - it was so nicely shaped and had a beautiful gold color to it). It sucks that there's so much construction around it so for now it might be a little difficult to get to (for now) and parking is a bit limited (which is fine since going out should be limited anyway). So happy that we gave this place a shot. We normally visit a Colombian restaurant downtown. On our way there, sitting in hours of traffic, I recalled Sabot being close and we decided to try them. The plantains are topped with Colombian cheese (which is very thick, yummy, and rich)! The Colombian hot dogs are a must try. Mas malo quel Diablo! The yucca looks like something studded from a blender and made to look like a uniformed large french fry. It looks like they took it out of the freezer and fried it. If this is what Columbian food tastes like I will not be visiting. I asked for an arepa rellena with pork belly. The word rellena means stuffed. But, this was an arepa atop of one another which is more like a sandwich. And, the pork belly was hard as a rock and part gummy. The sour cream tasted like it had been left out for weeks. The tamal had no real seasoning it was just bland. And, that was the best thing. This was my first time trying it and it will be my last.
