Inconsistent, reheated old and TERRIBLE attitudes when they think you don't understand them. I'm sorry some people who understand still choose to not speak Spanish but if you are gonna have a slick side comment at least make sure the food is served fresh, it's sad because I've enjoyed it so many times but the last two times I should have known when the peas in the rice were black and the rice puffy, it was no bueno. I shouldn't be tasting dirty fridge while eating mushy rice. Terrible combo. Only advice if you really wanna test it, go right when they open and not a second later. read more

Amazing dominican food. Came around lunch time after reading some reviews and opted for the lunch special as it was my first time trying Dominican food. It's a very casual laid back spot and the lunch special is served on a buffet line where you can choose from your entree and sides. 1 opted for the stewed chicken with rice and side salad. We enjoyed our lunch here, we got the pastelitos de res, tilapia frita, and pechuga rellena as well as the mango juice. The service was kind and answered our questions. My favorite thing we ordered was the pastelitos they were delicious! As for the tilapia it was pretty good but did not blow our socks off, and I liked the chicken but the cream sauce was a little heavy and rich for me, overpowering the dish. The server black haired hispanic woman with glasses deliberately picked over larger oxtails to give smaller ones for the same price. No bueno. I got the chicken instead which is $8. If you want to spend your money on the good stuff don't waste your time. or don't have her fix it. Overall, the food was amazing. My partner and I both agree that it was authentic (she is domician), and that the flavors were great. The service was also very quick and their buffet had a nice variety. The only thing I will say is the area they are located in could be nicer as I heard multiple people yelling outside when heading back to the car. Quality has went down. When I tell you I CRAVE CRAVEDDDD their food. I speak so highly of their spaghetti. This last experience was shocking. We ordered 6 plates of the chicken and white rice . Some with spaghetti & some with the macoroni salad, we got side salad , beans & a fried fish as well. The spaghetti was so soupy and they were scraping the tin and tried to add the scrapings they found in the back to that tin to make it enough for us. I assumed it was so damn good and I should be happy I'm getting any. That ended up us giving acid reflux. Then the macaroni salad was Spoiled !!!! Here I am tryna tell myself it's probably the mayonnaise but no. Soon as I tasted it I felt I was doing a disservice to my taste buds and guts. My coworker recommended this place and I followed him here for lunch. I never had Dominican Food but I am done to try anything new. The place had a decent crowd and it looked like we just missed the lunch crowd at 1:30pm. They have a buffet looking selection where you pick a meat, kind of rice, and kind of veggie. I picked the beef, brown rice with beans, and green salad. I sat down and went to town. The rice here is excellent. Reminds me a little of the Mexican rice. The beef had a small curry taste to it. I thought the food would be spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. I loved the taste of beef and rice. I actually really loved the rice here. The employees were super friendly and helpful. You can find Sabor Dominicano at 4186 Buford Hwy NE Ste M, Atlanta, GA 30345 in the same shopping center as Pho Dai Loi 2. This is just up the hill and north of Plaza Fiesta. Parking can be a bit of a challenge as there are several businesses that feed into the same lot - best to go on slightly off times. Late night Sabor becomes a disco, I believe as there's a DJ booth (but that may just be on the weekends) - something that's rather common in restaurants on Buford Highway, especially closer towards Atlanta. I met a few friends as part of my Buford Highway Restaurant Crawl group - besides offering up some rather authentic Dominican cuisine, the restaurant has a pretty awesome buffet (1-4 I believe) - in the evenings it starts to wind down but for lunch there's some great eats at very reasonable prices. They typically have Bacalao (salted cod) and boiled yucca on the buffet. If you're in a group order the appetizer platter - you'll enjoy an assortment of flavors so you'll get to sample a lot of what Dominica has to offer. The people here are really nice and good about describing the various dishes. My favorite time to come is during lunch after 1:00 - it's definitely a winner and you don't get stuck trying to find a parking space. I think everyone enjoyed the food quite a bit. Delicious food, but be careful about the menu prices. We ordered off of the current menu, and when the bill came out, each dish was more expensive than advertised. One item increased more than $5 from the menu price. I checked the menu and noticed the difference, at which point the owner was called over to correct the bill. He was apologetic and fixed it. The owner clarified they have ordered new menus to reflect the price change. However, if I didn't check the price after paying, I don't think the restaurant would have notified me of the price difference. I wonder how many patrons have overpaid for their meals based on the current menus available in the restaurant. I recommend eating here, but wait at least a few weeks to months for the new, updated menu to arrive. Otherwise, ask your server what the true price is for each item, or compare the bill to the menu before paying. To the restaurant: Consider printing temporary menus that reflect an accurate price. While the food is delicious, it doesn't feel good to be deceived by the restaurant I'm visiting. read more

It was delicious....except I didn't know plantains were part of the banana family and I'm allergic.....it tasted like potatoes actually so that was what I thought it was...... The place is small and has a nice cozy family feel to it which I like..... Most of the menu was not in English but our waiter was super patient and kind to explain everything to us... Sabor Dominicano is a Dominican restaurant located inside the same strip mall (Saigon Center) as Pho Dai Loi 2, next to Plaza Fiesta on Buford Highway. This restaurant opened in 2014. I've eaten at plenty of Caribbean restaurants around town, but this was my first time at a Dominican-specific restaurant. I've been to the Dominican Republic, but I'm still definitely not well-versed on the food. That said, I think this place seems pretty authentic. The dishes I tried were hit or miss. This is a small restaurant with seating for about 40 customers (indoor seating only). The dining room is basic and no-frills with TVs and DR-themed decor on the walls (e.g. flags, artwork). There is what looks like a DJ booth in one corner and with the speakers and special lighting, it's safe to assume this place also hosts (or hosted) dance parties. The festive music was cranked up during our Sunday lunchtime visit. It was busy. You can order off the buffet or the menu. We checked out the buffet. There was a bit of a language barrier between us and our server, so we weren't able to get the best descriptions of the items on the buffet. As best I could tell, the buffet consisted of items like white rice, red beans, and a variety of meat dishes containing chicken, beef, and pork. There was also oxtail, chicken soup with vegetables, yuca, potatoes, and salad. Everything on the buffet looked fresh. Buffet pricing varies depending on what you get. To give you an idea, one of my friends ordered rice, beans, chicken, and salad, and it was $7. Not bad. The menu has little to no English descriptions of some items. Hopefully, this review will help a little bit. There are appetizers like yuca chulitos (cassava rolls), pastelitos (folded pastries with cheese and meat filling), kipes (or kibbehs, bulgur rolls), tostones (fried plantains), and maduros (made from ripe plantains). There are sandwiches (e.g. chicken, ham and cheese, steak), salads, and soup. Meat entrees include varieties of chicken and steak. They've got different mofongo (fried plantain dish) and rice plates as well as various seafood such as shrimp, lobster tail, and platters containing those items along with crab legs, oysters, calamari, and fish. Desserts include flan, arroz con leche (rice pudding), and habichuelas con dulce, which is a Dominican sweet bean dessert. The food is affordably priced with most non-seafood dishes under $10 each and soups and most seafood entrees under $15 each. $5.99 daily lunch specials are available weekdays from 11am to 4pm and include pig feet, pig liver, chicken gizzards, baked chicken, stew, and spaghetti. Beverage-wise, they serve beer ($4), soda ($1), and various tropical fruit juices ($2.50-$3.00) like tamarindo (tamarind), maracuya (passion fruit), guanabana (soupsop), and morir soñando, which is a sweetened iced milk and orange juice that is popular in the DR. I tried a variety dishes. I thought the pastelito ($1.50) and kipe ($2) were A-OK. The pastelito was small with a nice crust and hot, savory filling. Kipe actually originates from Mediterranean cuisine. It wasn't bad and makes for a decent crunchy/soft app/snack. From the buffet, I tried two types of chicken. Both were served bone-in. The first one was chopped and covered in a savory red sauce. The second was more like a rotisserie-style roasted chicken. The roasted chicken was better. One of my friends ordered the pernil (Puerto Rican slow-roasted marinated pork shoulder) and steamed yuca from the buffet and the food looked terrific. She said they were good. I sampled two soups. One was sancocho, from the buffet. This soup cost about $10-11. The portion size was big and came with a side of white rice. The rice, by the way, is slightly salted (it's tasty). Sancocho is considered a national dish of the DR. Sabor Dominicano's version contained chunks of bone-in chicken, corn on the cob, carrots, potato, and I think plantains. This soup was hearty, filling, and delicious. The other soup I tried was also thick and hearty. It was a chicken and rice stew with lots of a rice in an orange-red broth. It was alright. The rice soaked up a lot of the broth. Corn, carrots, peas, and green beans, that looked like they came from a frozen bag, were added on top. I had the mofongo and it tasted fantastic. However, it was also very greasy and I couldn't finish it for that reason. The mofongo was quite flavorful and was freshly prepared with lots of garlic and chicharron (crunchy bits of pork skin). The mofongo also came with a side salad (from the buffet), broth, and another type of chicharron (this time, morsels of deep-fried bone-in pork). Like the rice, the salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, dressing) was salted. The bone-in chicharron was tasty, but fatty and oily. Again, I couldn't finish it for the same reason as the mofongo. My mango juice was very sweet and yummy, though I'm not sure it was fresh. It may have come from a can. Service was friendly. read more

They have the best paella in the area, and at such a cheap price -$15 ish per person with half a lobster inside :) it took a while for them to make it, but that makes the the paella fresh and authentic. The soup and tostones are fresh and tasty as well. Overall we had a great experience. I'm between 3 and 4 on this one. Food was 4+ but the language barrier and the lack of ambiance made it a 3. I visited this restaurant with a group of like minded yelpers for a Sunday brunch UYE. There is a parking lot but it was quite full and I had a hard time finding a spot. The restaurant is small and basic in it's decor. There is a buffet counter and a small bar off to the side, serving beer and wine only. We had the option to order off the menu or go for the buffer. I couldn't decide so I did both =) The buffet comes with sides but I was able to order just the meats since I went with paella for my off the menu dish. The two meats I chose were chicken gizzards (excellent) and pig feet (good but mostly bone, not much to eat meat-wise). The paella for one took a while to come out but that was kind of expected. This dish was HUGE. I had leftovers for days. It was also delicious. The one disappointment was the fact that there were all of these various yummy crabs in it but no crackers to get to the meat. They just don't carry them. Makes me wonder if they only use crab claws for decoration purposes. Overall: great food, friendly service but quite a language barrier.
