I had a great experience adopting our kitten from here! After looking for an entire weekend, and…read moregoing to 7 different animal adoption locations in Dallas, Carrollton and Plano, I saw a Facebook post of kittens at Garland and we planned to come by the next week. Our first round of looking was frustrating, as it was hard to find kittens and you couldn't get an idea of their personality at most shelters who make you apply before you look. Garland Pawsibilities was amazing! Initially we went to the garland shelter but were directed here because they have more cats. They have this amazing kitten social room that you can go sit in, and let the animals Come to you. It was a great way to let their personalities shine and privacy for the adopters as well, with no pressure. I went in on a mission to find a tabby cat, which they did have, but this tiny little black kitten stole my heart. He came up to my boyfriend and I and sat at our feet and was just so curious about who we were. I know if they didn't have the kitten room we would've never come home with our perfect kitten! He was very young when we adopted him, so he did require more shots we paid for at his vet. Just keep this in mind for new adopters. The workers were great and let My boyfriend and I take as much time as we needed. They answered all of our questions, and each time I stop in they seem to have a similar staff that is very friendly. Thank four for all you do! A year later and we can't believe what a great cat we got. He has been happy and healthy since.

We had the same happen to us; you enter and it's immediately a sense of seriousness and "what do you want?" type of attitude. Lovely. I am always in support of people and organizations that reach out to animals in need and it warms my heart when either I or someone else, adopts. This bunch, however, comes off rude and uncaring and as though customers (potential adopters) are an inconvenience and certainly NOT the first priority. A few days ago (from today's posted date) my husband and I adopted a kitten of roughly 6-8 weeks. A sweet, beautiful cream-colored boy. The process was straight to the point and simple enough, however I'd like to make a note that when I was asking about vaccinations, microchips, etc. the woman who I was talking to paid more attention to what her friend was saying than what my questions were. I'd hate to come off as "high maintenance"; I'm simply trying to understand what the kitten is expected to receive in order to live healthy and content. That following evening I noticed the kitten was having a hard time going to the bathroom (#2) so I started inspecting him. His belly was clearly expanded but I figured he simply ate a lot at the shelter, upon examining his rectum there was a clear sign of major (MAJOR) constipation and a potential hemorrhoid. We gave the kitten a warm wash to remove any residue since he was, in fact, LEAKING from the bottom (and continued leaking). My heart broke after realizing this kitten needed medical attention and was most likely in serious discomfort. I'll save you the time about the measures we went through that day (Saturday) and following Sunday, and the fact that the whole weekend consisted of us tending to the little guy from morning till night in any way we can. My husband consulted with a local vet and he said the kitten is most likely suffering from an infection, so by keeping him safe in a kennel we were letting him rest while keeping distance from any bacteria reaching our other cat. We agreed it was best to return the kitten back to the shelter that Monday where he could get around-the-clock medical treatment. The day the kitten was returned, I had to be at work, so my husband went alone and later shared the story. All in all we spent $80 on the adoption and about $80+ more on his general care for those 1.5 days. He entered and explained the situation. The woman pointed at our adoption papers and without mentioning anything else, said that there's "no refund". My husband was shocked...he didn't even mentioned money once, in fact he answered that he doesn't care about the money, he just wants the kitten to get medical attention. She looked at the kitten sitting in our pet-taxi and asked if he'll need his taxi back. Thieves, much?! "Yes." It's clearly all about money for these guys. She took the kitten out and he left. No regard for animals or people. Rude, inconsiderate and greedy. Stay away from this place. We adopted from Plano Animal Shelter once, which was a pleasant experience and visited Rockwall Animal Shelter, which the customer service is night and day compared to this hole. - Concerned Citizen and Animal Lover

Sadly my boyfriend was not answering at the time , but Steve agreed to try to hold him for an hour so that I might get hold of my s/o . Luckily I was able to come back for my 2:30p appointment and take my little fur ball home ! Upon getting an exam at my veterinarian the SAME day he was 100% . The cats are inside cages that have grated floors and their paws kept falling through the holes. There was nowhere else for them to go, though... also they're parked right next to the dogs who are barking their heads off which I know was scaring them. The litter boxes were these flimsy little gift boxes that were not suitable litter boxes. No beds or blankets or anything soft for them to lay on. I want to say "don't go here" but then the other side of me says, "please go here and adopt all these animals so they can get out of these awful conditions."

I honestly did not have any high expectations because everyone told me to go to Sharkarosa last year and that place was a little disappointing. Also people told me this place was a flop too; but they seemed to have decent reviews and tigers and that's all my kiddos cared about. Pulling in I was still having no expectations; we checked in; we had "donated" online prior to arriving so we were given a map and some simple instructions and on we were on our way. They have a ton of cats! Yes I have a love hate relationship for places like this and zoos because I feel sympathy for the animal being in a cage; however I due understand most are rescued and are alive because of places like this. But this place by far is one of the better places; it's clean; workers are constantly cleaning the habitats; the animals overall were active and not in "comatose" "depressed" state as I've seen before at other places. For the most part a lot of the habitats were very large with lots in them; so that was refreshing. I saw a ton of cats I've never seen. I think tigers are beautiful; however I was really in awe of the Lion, Lambert and then the Servals! They were just amazing. They had tigers, ligers, lions, servals, bobcats, cougars, etc. my kids really enjoyed it as well as my husband and I. The memorial wall was touching; and the gift shop is decent. I did find out they offer a feeding tour in the evenings and that's something we may check out in the future. All in all it was a great experience for us.

I thought most of them would be sleeping inside their (air conditioned and heated) houses in the middle of the day. Not so. We saw lions, tigers, ligers, several bobcats, a several, and a leopard, all up close. Many of the cats have been rescued from people who raised them as cubs, and intended to keep them as pets, so many of the cats are not fearful of humans. The facilities are nothing fancy, but the cats are clearly well taken care of and have plenty of enrichment. There are about 70 cats on the property, and you can probably see them all within an hour or so. It's not a huge place. The paths between the enclosures are dirt / gravel and sometimes uneven. We ended up getting pretty muddy since we came after it rained. It was a little tricky for my dad, who is 85 with mobility issues, but was still manageable.

I could not find any bull terriers here in Albuquerque so I started looking at rescues on the net. I found Maybell's and contacted her. She was wonderful. We talked on the phone and via email and about a week and a half later I drove out to Dallas to get my Rocky. Rocky had been used as a bait dog and had numerous injuries that Maybell's provided veterinary care for as well as a safe place to recover both physically and emotionally from this abuse. Thanks to her this wonderful little dog was saved. For that I'm so grateful to her. May was not only able to provide a medical history for Rocky but was also able to tell me about his personality. She had taken the time to get to know him. I came back to New Mexico with a wonderful dog and very confident that we were a good fit. This is a very nice facility…read more Regarding dogs: Unfortunately they have exclusive arrangements with rescue organizations, resulting in all of the desirable breed dogs being tagged for rescues before they can be adopted by citizens. If a dog appears to be a pure-breed, they will be almost immediately scooped by rescues who will then charge $500 plus for adoption. As a result- the shelter mainly features pit bull and pit bull mixes, odd mixed breeds and dogs with issues. The shelter also does not qualify as a 'no kill' shelter according to third party evaluations. As an organization supported by tax dollars, citizens should have the first choice on available dogs before directly sending them to rescues.

Gorgeous new facility with lots of kennel space for dogs, cats, and other small animals…read more The parking area is large with wide spaces which is useful if you need to get animals in and out of your car. There are two entrances to the facility, but the public is most likely going to head to the adoptions entrance. Inside, everything is clean both in appearance and smell. Hallways are clearly labeled. Head to the left if you are interested in cats and straight ahead if you are interested in dogs. There is a clear wall that allows you to peer in at the cats. This first area is several kennel spaces with holes in the walls allowing the cats to be social and to explore. The holes allow them to move from one perch to another. Very cool concept. The dogs that are front and center also have a clear wall making them fully visible from the lobby. A sign says that these dogs are the longest residents. I'm saddened because I want to take both of these cute, big dogs home with me, but I have neither the space nor money to add them to the two big dogs I already have at home. Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is a nonprofit organization now running the volunteer program at this shelter and several other shelters in DFW. If you aren't able to adopt, consider volunteering just four hours a month with this shelter or your own local rescue. You can help make a difference in an animal's life, even if it is just an hour of your time.
