Poor customer service. Poor food quality. As other reviews have alluded to, they are really ineffective in correctly fulfilling even the most basic of orders. Refused to give me mango lassi that I ordered. Quality of food is just disappointing. Naan that easily gets hard, low spice profile, and raita doesn't even include cucumbers...like huh, is that even a thing? Never seen a cucumber-less raita... Wow. The best Indian food I've had in ages. Everything was fragrant and delicious. We started with Idli Sambar, Gobi Manchurian, and Samosa, all of which were top notch. The entrees came out in beautiful brass serving dishes. I've had a lot of Chana Masala in my day and this was the best I've had. The Baingan Bharta and Vegetable Biryani were great too. And my wife was pleasantly surprised to see they had Peshwari Naan, her favorite. It was my first time trying it, and it was outstanding. The staff was friendly and prompt and the Indian grocery out the side door has everything you need to start cooking your own Indian food. We'll be back often. read more

As someone who has never tried Indian food before, this is certainly the best way to try it! There are so many popular dishes to try, and they keep the spice levels at a mild level. I tried just about all of the 18 or so offerings. Some I enjoyed, some were just not my cup of tea. I also tried the after dinner mouth freshener or Mukhwas as it's called. It's definitely a taste that will stay with you for a while. It was good to try, but once is good enough. Lunch crowd fills up quick, but they do a great job keeping things moving and replenishing the dishes. I would definitely return and indulge in some more of my favorite Indian dishes like the butter chicken. read more

Finally, I found the best Indian restaurant in St Petersburg after coming here for a year on work trips. The ambiance is great, big wide​ open spaces, colorful lights, a bar area as well as outdoor seating. I'm from Hyderabad, the Deccan area, and the food is quite authentic and definitely has some spices to kick it. There is no reason to go 5/5 on the lunch buffet. There was butter chicken. Butter. Chicken. Its supposed to be a nice mild tasty dish, but no suddenly you're in a Man vs Food episode. My husband is the bigger fan of Indian food than I, so when we were in the area, he happened to spot it from the road, and through Yelp reviews, decided this is a place he wanted to try. We arrived at the start of business hours, but were very politely told by the manager that there was a "slight delay" before he could seat us and start service. He was very apologetic, but we certainly didn't mind the wait--things happen, right? And the way I look at it, if that's the worst thing that happened to me that day, my life is good! The interior is very simply decorated, but done very tastefully. We were there for lunch, and discovered it was buffet. There was an impressive set-up with fancy chafing dishes at the rear of the restaurant. The buffet offered a great variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes--all clearly designated as to what the dishes were, and whether they contained dairy or nuts, etc. For one who is only a marginal-fan of Indian food, I thought the food I sampled was actually very delicious! They had a nice variety of things familiar and some items I've never seen before. For the most part, the spice levels for me were fine (I don't tolerate a lot of heavy spices), and there were only 1 or 2 dishes where the spice level was at the top of my tolerance--still very tasty, though, don't get me wrong, and I managed to finish them. The Naan--oh my gosh! Probably the best I've had! So soft and buttery (but not dripping of butter)! There were two desserts offered, which were a nice way to end a lovely meal. We loved our experience at Deccan Spice. We were warmly greeted at the door by the host and given our choice of where we preferred to sit. Our server, Tejas, was patient and knowledgeable about the dishes and their ingredients.Tejas helpped us decide on what to order when we asked for his opinion. Another gentleman was also tended to us by frequently refilling our water and asking if we would need a box as we were finishing eating. Food was delish. Couldn't get enough of the garlic naan. I tried their food delivery online via yelp. Food arrived on time! Great!! I had the Butter Chicken (mild spicy) and I'll say one of the best indian dishes I ever had. Very creamy sauce, the flavor melts in your mouth. The spicy is not really hot, I want it to have a little kick so I have it "Mild" for the level of spicy. I recommend you do the same thing so you can really taste the flavor without the spicy overpowering the dish. Or Medium?! But if you really wanted it to be hot it's up to you. I'll definitely order this food again and may be try their chicken tikka masala next time. The serving/portion is also plenty especially the rice. When we arrived to restaurant and entered there was no greeting from the staff. We followed her to the table where she put down the menus and walked away. We sat for about 15 minutes in which time server approached the table twice and said "do you know what you want yet?" During this 15 minutes there was never any water brought to the table or question of if we would like something to drink. After we ordered we had to request water. Anytime the server came to the table her whole demeanor was as if you got your very grumpy teenage daughter to come to work and it was the last thing she wanted to be doing. She kind of slinked around the restaurant dragging her feet quite literally. There was no conversation asking if the food was okay from her or if we needed anything. The owner did come by and ask if the food was good and it was not bad. It's the only reason this place gets any stars. A few tables down we noticed the two men getting the same treatment having to ask for Stuff like water or a spoon and each time there was no conversation between the server and the patrons. She would just come back and set stuff on the table and walk away. After we were finished eating the server must have walked by us at least 10 times seeing that we were done quite obviously. The owner ended up coming and asking if we were ready for our bill to which we were. When we got our check they had given us the wrong bill. Definitely not impressed. As a former server there is quite a lot lacking in customer service. You feel somewhat unwelcome and definitely not important. Everybody is walking around with zero purpose and has no interest in their customers or customer service at any level. read more

Hands down worst Indian restaurant I have been to in Tampa / st Pete area. My family and I are not Indian but we are vegetarian and we eat Indian food so regularly we just call it food not Indian food. We cook it at home and when we are out and about we pretty much exclusively eat at Indian restaurants. We started off with paneer pakora. It was absolutely terrible. If you have ever had paneer you know how moist and thick a piece of it is. These were borderline construction paper thin and we dried and practically burnt. They seemed like they came from a bag and someone left them in the deep fry too long. The cilantro and tamarind sauce were disgusting. The cilantro was particularly terrible tho. It's like they forgot that cilantro goes bad rather quickly. Usually cilantro sauce has a vibrant green color this one was dark. I can only imagine it came from a jar. While the Mulligatawny Soup ended up being one of the only edible things we got it was served so hot we were not able to eat it for 15 minutes after it was served. I don't want you to get the idea we are just problem customers. We love Indian food and this place is just sub par. We are on a paneer kick because our 2 year old digs it so we got a cheese dosa. While we understand that cheese soda usually doesn't come with paneer the menu specifically states that it comes with Indian cottage cheese so we got kinda excited. Our excitement was ill placed because it must have had Monterrey jack or something. It definitely was some sort of yellow cheese. It was the worst dosa I have ever had. It tasted like a grilled cheese. The lacha paratha was alright. My wife says it was good and I was on the fence about it. It was nice they served roti and paratha. We had high hopes for this place but as you can see it didn't meet our standards. If you want a taste of really good Indian food go to Udipi Cafe and Dosa Hut in Tampa. Great Buffett. We arrived just before noon on a Sunday. The staff were still setting things up. There were probably 12-15 main dishes, 2 desserts, and two rice choices. Everything I tried was very good. The mango mousse was a little too sweet for my tastes. The atmosphere is very nice and outside seating is available. The food is very tasty! Very fresh! Arguably the best Indian food in Pinellas County. The service is courteous and the staff is very good. The restaurant was very clean and nicely set. The only drawback was the food did not come out in a timely manner. One entree came out much earlier than the other one-at least 10-15 minutes earlier. For such a nice place, that really was unacceptable.
