Superb Indian food. That's all you need to know. I'm not a vindaloo fan, but my friend insisted I try it here and it was the best vindaloo I have ever eaten, hands down. Such complex flavors...very unusual to see such an effort made on Vindaloo. I *am* a big korma fan, and the Lamb Korma here was absolute perfection. Thick and creamy, with more complex flavors than low-end Indian places. Also the "5x5" chicken appetizer is amazing, as was the garlic naan. There are a lot of mediocre Indian restaurants in Tampa Bay, probably most of them fall into this category. I would put this place at Number One or Two. It's that good. Generous portions, top quality, perfect flavors. This food sucks!! I ordered masala fries. I was expecting big fries with a masala sauce on top of it. NOPE. fine writing description it's masala "spice sprinkled" on them. The fries are regular sized slim side of it. And the spice is very lightly sprinkled on them. The fries themselves are fried to hell! No potato inside of it. Nothing but congealed fat that used to be a potato by-product once upon a time. For that price at an ethnic restaurant, I expected better! The lunch buffet here is amazing! They have numerous meat and vegetarian options and the amount of food could feed a small village! The quality of food is impeccable, the service top notch and it's very reasonable for what you get! They always have at least two dessert options which are also traditional and they're always delicious! I would say it's medium level spice so it's not unbearable but definitely prepare to have some spicy yummy goodness! Also, I recommend trying bite sized portions of everything first to gauge spice and flavor profile before creating a mound of food on your plate, so you can pick and choose what to obsess with! We came here for their lunch buffet on a Tuesday afternoon and were one of the first people in the restaurant. The restaurant's voicemail says they open at 11am, but they didn't open their doors until 11:30am. I am giving them 3 stars for decent food, but even that is generous given the awful service. Our water glasses were never re-filled without asking and basically nobody came to check on our party of 8, which included 2 kids. They asked me how old the kids were before telling me that kids 10 and Above counter as adults and 9 and younger were half price. The fact that I was told that after they asked the age of the kids was kind of fishy, but whatever. Seemed kind of contrived. Following lunch we ordered 4 cups of masala tea but they had more sugar than tea. Given the atrocious service till this point, we didn't have time to ask for another cup so we just took what we got. I am really disappointed with their customer service. I like the taste of the food but can't ignore the unprofessional behavior I experienced today. The closing time is 2:30pm so I made a call at 2:00 to ask untill when we can make our last order they said we can untill 2:300pm with a suggestion to order at that time but as I was not ready to make one and had already started for the restaurant to dine-in I thought it was better to order when I reach. We reached there at 2:14 and were asked to make take away order and not allowed to dine in. This place has good Indian food, one of the better ones in the Tampa Bay area one of of two that are the best in St Pete. I have been here several times for dinner and lunch buffet and have used bite squad to deliver to downtown St Pete. The dinner menu has all the essential Indian fare and all of it is really good and spice level from zero to Indian hot is an option for all the curries. The buffet usually has some good stuff including lamb and goat which is usually missing form other buffets. The space itself is large but does not have the usual decor that most Indian places have, there are a few posters on the wall and a Ganesh at the cash register and they were playing new age music last time I was there. I actually prefer the overly Indian decor with the customary sitar or Bollywood music playing in the back ground. The food is top notch, the beer selection is good, they do have a full bar. The wait staff is friendly and service is relatively fast. If you want good Indian food go here, you will not be disappointed. $14.99 Saturday lunch buffet Although it is a few dollars more than its competitors, it's worth it. Very clean interior, large and spacious, with nice music (chillstep fyi), and a wide selection of food to choose from. Seriously, I've been to a lot of Indian buffets and when I say wide selection I mean it. There were at least 20 dishes and they were all kept very warm (they're individually heated with a fire underneath). We've had an issue with other places where the food just gets cold. Its mostly vegetarian options but there were a handful of chicken, as well as one goat curry, entree to choose from. We usually don't like vegetarian dishes but the ones here were seriously great and very flavorful. Also the goat curry had a good amount of goat meat in it as well and not overloaded with bones. Finally, there were two desserts to choose from and they were both great to cut through all the heavy spices. Five stars!!! read more

Only person who deserves a tip after you finish your food is the cook. Everyone else here is just working to save job and owner is saving every single penny to cover the cost he paid to buy probably an old restaurant building. Guys just spend $150 and get some floor cleaning and refinishing stuff from HomeDepot clearance sale and get your yucky floors cleaned and refinished. Buy salt/pepper shakers and put it on each table so we don't have to ask and feel ashamed to ask again. Please have plates placed on the table before food is served so we don't have to stare the food for 10 minutes on table. At the end, each customer is your asset, have a welcoming smile on your face when you see a customer. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere. This place is a joke starting with the employees who are all rude and argumentative. We ordered take out and as soon as I walked in me and others were rudely told to go sit at the bar because we were crowding the area. No "hey what's the name on the order" or "let me check on that". I waited 40 minutes and saw numerous people wait just as long, ask for an update and get a shrug, and then just give up and leave. The staff would just bring the bags out and place them on a table without a name on them or anything. When my sister called to get a refund the employee wanted to argue that I did not tell them the correct name even though I spelt it out for them. I've been to India, and personally, this is very likely the best Indian food I've had in the Western hemisphere. I stopped in here at 5:30 on a Thursday and the place was practically all ours. Don't let the sparse attendance fool you though. The food is out of this world. Later on in the evening foot traffic picked up, and our waiter told us that the lunch buffet is a big hit too, and Fridays are quite busy. We ordered the saag paneer and lamb rogan josh with buttered naan. The dishes were so flavorful we could barely believe it. I was basically dancing in my seat the food was so tasty. The amount of everything was perfect to share between 2 people, and the dishes come with a big bowl of rice which is more than enough to pair with whatever you may order. I could honestly eat here once a week and never get tired of it, but I would probably go broke...and it doesn't help I live literally 5 minutes away. read more

The food is good enough where I'll go again. I like that we now have more food variety in this area of St. Pete where I work. However, I've been in a bit of an Indian food kick lately and this is the third Indian restaurant I've tried in the past month or two and compared to the other two it comes in third place. I have been here a total of 4 times now, threes times the buffet and once pre order delivery. The buffet is ok, food is pretty good, a bit bland. The service is just ok also. My most recent was the delivery order which was better than the buffet. I ordered the butter chicken (my go to dish) and some nam bread. It was good, as I mentioned not as good as past restaurants but still quite tasty. The butter chicken sauce was very oily and filled to the very top of the container, so it was very messy. It's hard to find a good lunch buffet on the weekend so I was excited to try this place. The buffet is big, with about 20 different options including curries, pakora, soups, vegetables, biryanis, rice, naan, etc. Also a very good mix of meat and vegetarian options. I was partial to the saag Chana and chicken Tikka masala, both very delicious! The buffet was $15, which isn't the cheapest option I've seen but isn't bad. I always prefer to be able to try a few different things at Indian places than have to choose one! I wouldn't have minded if there more curry type dishes (and some samosas!) but honestly, I didn't have room to eat more anyway. I would definitely come back here again in the area. Finally, the location is a little weird. The building is huge (you can't miss the NOW OPEN sign from the road) but you have to go in the entrance by the Shell Station and Jimmy Johns and drive around to get to the parking lot. read more

It was Friday night and we were feeling adventurous! Adventurous enough to try Indian but not enough to go ALL the way to our usual hangouts in DTSP. Enter: Deccan Spice in Feather Sound. First things first, I heard this place used to be a nightclub, but they did such a good job re-facing it, you'd never know. I was a little shocked to see white tablecloths and such a "fancy" feeling setting considering this is a really affordable lunch or dinner (and takeout) option. But, I appreciate the effort and slightly strange branding of everything (I'm talking from the napkins to the glasses). But you know what? Go ahead and rep yourself! Our group hardly ever eats Indian, so this was a gamble for sure, but we played our cards right! They've got EVERY possible Indian dish you could want. After taking nearly half an hour to decide what we wanted, we went for some basics like Tikka Masala and Chicken Korma (de-lish!) but tried some new things as well. Our takeaway? Next time, more spice please. They were probably too nervous to really take it to a medium, so we all felt like our food was more of a mild. I think they are very mindful of their customers, which is nice. The staff and manager were incredibly helpful, especially considering my bf's dairy and nut allergies. We didn't realize it, but Indian food has A LOT of dairy and nuts! (who knew?) They did ultimately cook him up a special order of chicken curry that he really liked. The consensus: We WILL come back to try the lunch buffet so we can sample everything and educate ourselves on the different varieties and flavors of Indian food. Good news or bad news? Your opinion may differ from mine. Either way, this place changed hands a couple months ago and it's QUITE different from before. The new owners have cleaned it up and it definitely has a fresher feel. The old, extensive Indian menu has been replaced by a smaller menu with a few items that are straight-up Chinese/Taiwanese. The food is quite different from the old menu. The owner/chef said that they are renaming it "World Spice" soon. My friend and I ordered the Gobi Manchurian (for a starter), Boneless Special Chicken Biryani, and Chicken 65 - all extra spicy. Unfortunately, the Biryani arrived first - beating our "starter" by approx 10 minutes. The good news is that it was delicious with a good spiciness and moist flavor all the way through - definitely better than the old Deccan version, which I really liked. The Chicken 55 came out next and it was just OK, not very much spice - or distinctive flavor at all really. The Gobi Manchurian came out last - and it was nothing like any other Gobi Manchurian I have ever had. (I guess we should have read the menu more closely to see that the description had changed). The cauliflower was neither breaded nor fried and came out in a mild, thin Chinese light-brown sauce rather than the typical thick/red/spicy sauce. Overall, it was fairly tasty, but not at all what we were expecting. In the end, we cleaned our plates and left satisfied, but missing some of the old recipes that kept us coming back. We'll definitely eat here again and hope the best for the new owners and crew. They were all very friendly and the service was good. read more

So I came here to post a review and realized I posted a review about the same complaint many months ago. I keep asking for mild, and they keep sending me spicy food. It literally happens about 50% of the time, and I order from here at least once or twice a month. This has happened so often that I have to stop ordering from this restaurant altogether. You'd think after the first negative review about it, they would've had better quality assurance, but it seems they don't take these reviews seriously, so I'll have to take my business elsewhere. Came here for a large family dinner. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was nice and elegant. We were seated promptly. Our server was helpful in assisting us with our order and determining the actual spice level for certain items of interest. We started off with the complimentary papad and chutney, which were great. For appetizers, we got two orders of the Vegetable Manchurian - one mild and one medium spicy, paneer tikka and the veggie platter (samosa, vegetable and paneer pakora and aloo tikki). The medium spice was pretty much extra spicy level and the mild tasted more like medium. I love spicy food so this was perfect for me. We also added-on the pani puri, which was okay. The spicy water actually tasted a little sweet and wasn't as flavorful. Out of all of the above appetizers (which were all delicious and would highly recommend), I loved the paneer tikka the most; it was perfectly cooked! For the main entree, we ordered the Mysore masala dosa. I was stuffed with the above appetizers by the time the main entree arrived but still enjoyed the dosa. Definitely on the oilier side but still decent. The tomato and coconut chutneys that came with the dosa were delicious as was the Sambhar. read more

Definitely recommend this place! I ordered the chicken vindaloo to go and was given a huge portion of spicy vindaloo curry with potatoes,chicken breast and basmati rice. A lot of places will give you a mix of dark and white meat chicken, so I appreciated that it was all white. I ordered it spicy level "hot" and it was just the right amount of heat. The curry was very tomato-y and fresh. The rice was perfectly fluffy and light. I'm not sure if it would have included naan if I had dined in, but he asked me if I wanted bread, so I assume that meant it wasn't included. Best food and service! We are not from the area but come to St. Petersburg every couple of months for doctor's appointments. Afterwards, we always have lunch here. EVERY SINGLE TIME the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Today we were pleasantly surprised by our waiter who remembered us and what we usually order!
