Safety Insurance is wrongfully denying a car accident claim - their denial report doesn't match the accident report which clearly shows which driver is at fault (their insured of course) - they didn't even look at the accident report and recreate the details. I had a hit and run but was able to get the license plate. Latoya Reed my claim specialist handled this claim with speed and professionalism. She referred me to an auto body shop ( Haynes Auto Repair) that did an excellent job and even did detailing inside and outside of my vehicle. read more

The negative reviews here are puzzling. Safety VIP centers if you have a fender bender are a completely stress free system of getting through this potentially time sucking experience. And because I have the Safety Shield Plus coverage on my policy, the $500 deductible was WAIVED. I went to the Newton VIP and was helped by Maryellen who was so friendly and professional, she took care of everything. My "totally covered" rental car was waiting for me and in a few days I will get my 4Runner back, good as new. The body shops VIP use OEM parts and guarantee their work 100%. read more

His client rear ended me, is 100% at fault, and he refuses to help me get into a rental car. We had a tree blown over onto our house. Safety was quite responsive, sent a knowledgeable adjuster (former contractor Roger Stamey) and paid a fair reimbursement for damages. Claims person and adjuster were also very responsive. The first tree removal company we called, Kelly's, brought out a crane that only managed to chew up our neighbor's driveway. They then refused to pay damages. We felt obligated to get our neighbor's driveway repaired, and did so. Safety nicely reimbursed us for the expense, even though it was made in cash to a very small driveway company. Very nice of them. read more

One star is too much! The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced! Someone falsely opened a claim against me last February, I did not get notified by safety until August. I have proof I was at least 40 miles away from the accident, with my vehicle, and I still have yet to hear anything. If the accident is your fault they are blowing you up to get it solved but when it's not your fault and you pay for FULL COVERAGE, you will NEVER speak to your adjuster. You can ask for managers numerous times and the person on the phone will rush you off to your adjusters voicemail or the managers voicemail. In order for me to simply get a rental, that I pay coverage for, I had to bitch and complain only for me to have to call again to extend it for the whole month. It's been almost 2 weeks now and I have yet to have much done. My car is totaled but now I sit here and wait. Seems like Saftey forgot we have lives as well. Every single time I call, I get a voicemail or a useless human being. I call to get more information but I only get a RUDE person or a voicemail. I hate this company. Safety Insurance is by far the worst insurance company I've dealt with, and could very well be the worst auto insurance company in the state of Massachusetts if not the Eastern Seaboard. My ordeal started when my broker - Old Heritage Insurance - switched my carrier from Commerce to Safety around August of 2008. Interestingly, when we moved from East Boston to Winthrop (a decidedly quieter, safer area), my rates with Safety went UP by $30/year. I like paying bills online whenever possible, and for some reason my November bill never went through. Safety's website is a joke though, so I shouldn't have been surprised. All you need to access your account is the policy number, and from there all you can do is either pay a bill or file a claim. You can't access your policy information, payment information, nothing. So I got a letter in the mail informing me of my pending cancellation, and took the opportunity to shop around for different carriers. Not only did Plymouth Rock save me over $400/year (through the same broker), but they expressed amazement that Safety had actually raised my rates for moving to Winthrop. I got a revised bill in the mail, with a phone number and extension to call to settle it. I called that number and extension and left 3 increasingly irate messages, telling the representative that I was calling to settle my bill but that I couldn't do it if he never answered his phone and never returned calls. Finally, on the 4th attempt (2 weeks after I'd left the first message), I chose to speak with a different representative, and settled my bill through her. I asked her if the person I'd originally been trying to reach had been on vacation or out of the office for some other reason. She replied "No, he's in the office currently and hasn't been away." I ended up speaking to the supervisor and filing a formal complaint. Finally, when I thought I was done with all of this, I got a letter from Plymouth Rock informing me that my policy with them was due to be cancelled in 3 weeks. I called them up and asked why, and was informed that the RMV showed an outstanding balance owed to my previous insurance carrier. I couldn't believe it. I called Safety up and the representative I spoke with told me they'd never reported my previous outstanding balance to the RMV, and confirmed that I'd paid it on time and hadn't accrued any additional fees. When I asked her to check the RMV records using my license number, lo and behold! There's the report of the outstanding balance that was "never reported." Long story short: Safety's auto rates are astoundingly high, the website sucks, my payment got lost in cyberspace leading to Safety threatening to cancel my policy, the representative assigned to collect my final payment blew me off repeatedly, and then somehow Safety reported my paid bill to the RMV as unpaid, leading to a cancellation notice from my current carrier. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

Looks like Safety Insurance is not worried about customers, especially COVID-19 situation. I typically make insurance full payment through bank. My bank made a mistake in auto bill payment on two out of three policies. So I had to contact Safety Insurance customer service. I wanted to pay bills in full on phone. Unfortunately phone payment system was not working. Customer service representative was very rude asked me to pay online. I paid two policy payments paying $4.95 service charge each. In the current situation is this advisable for any business to charge about $5 service charge per payment? I asked the same to customer service and then she hung up the phone. Businesses supposed to help their customers in the difficult time, rather penalize customer. Not satisfied with such business. Hope management will listen and help the customers. read more

So, just due to the awful weather in 2011 I ended up with 3 or 4 claims (actually, just 2, but they wanted to wring more deductibles out of me; 2 more after my iniyial post of 3/28/11) ... they decided (unilaterally) to not renew the home insurance, so now I have to go with the inappropriately-named "FAIR" Plan of MA, which is anything but fair, because now no other insurer will insure the house. Premium doubled. Safety and their inept CEO are being reported to the AG's office for this -- I feel great pity for those that lost a lot (or all) due to tornadoes and storms in 2011 and had the misfortune to have these idiots as their insurance. I've been with Safety for my auto insurance since 1997 and have two homeowner policies with them (one since 2004 and one since October of this year). I've been involved in 3 car accidents, none of which were my fault, and the auto claims were all handled to my satisfaction (perhaps it helps that I have an insurance agent). I shop around for quotes each year and have not had another insurance company beat Safety's quotes. As for my homeowner's insurance, I've never needed to file a claim. When I was shopping around for a policy for my new house in October, I received 8 quotes for the same coverage amount and Safety was the lowest. read more

I am currently waiting in the claims services office in Newton, MA. I've been waiting for over an hour now to receive my total loss settlement check (one of their clients hit me). However, thanks to the incompetence of Heather, the agent in charge of my file, what should have been a quick pick up has become a long waiting game for everyone at this office. Even before this, it would take at least (I kid you not) ten phone calls to get one back from her. And apparently, she did not contact this claims office about my settlement, so we are now going on a 1.5 hour wait until she comes back from her lunch break. I had one of the best costumer service experience's at the Safety Insurance VIP center in Danvers. My car got into a little accident and from the start to finish they really went above and beyond to make everything go smoothly! Nick and Diane were the two that had helped me and they were wonderful throughout the entire process! I brought my car to the VIP center and right away was greeted and set up with a rental car. After my car was fixed all I had to do was bring my rental car back and pick up mine. When I got my car back it was absolutely beautiful and looked even better then before my accident! With all the stressors that come with car accidents, Safety took a lot of that stress off of me! I constantly was getting updates on my car and they were there if I had any questions/concerns. I would highly recommend this insurance company to anyone! read more

My gorgeous, mint 8 year old car got rammed in the rear end by a Safety client. Their appraiser totaled my car for $4400! In dealing with Emily in Claims, I was treated very aggressively when I complained that Safety refused to fix my car. In fact, Emily said that she "never told me that she would send me the appraisal." !! Was it going to come from Heaven Above? She's getting a nice letter from me, cc: her boss. What a joke. Filed a claim over 2 months ago and it's like pulling teeth to get any updates. The only time I hear from them is if I reach out - and it's constantly - we are reviewing, I haven't received all the info, pending further investigation. Then she gives me an estimate of what I would potentially receive from this home claim due to a leak and it wouldn't even cover a dinner for 2 - let alone any of the damages. This company loves two things: getting a ton of voicemails and a lack of communication! Got rear ended by a dude who has this insurance company, over a month later and I'm still waiting to get a check for the damage to my car. I've been jerked around the whole time I've been dealing with them. The agent handling my claim failed to call me back after leaving no less than three voicemails, and only called back after I left her supervisor a message about her not being in touch with me about ANYTHING regarding the claim. Below was posted on Safety Insurance's FB today: On March 23rd 2018, while my daughter was driving my car, the front passenger side wheel drive assembly failed and the front end slammed the asphalt. The wheel was nearly torn off and caused additional body damage. The car was t-bar towed to the Ford dealer resulting in additional transmission and muffler damage (the t-bar left a perfect parallel dent in the muffler impossible to be done by road debris and there was no transmission fluid at the scene of the accident) . To me this was clearly a mechanical failure as evidenced by the location of the failure and debris on the road. Images of the accident scene were provided to my insurance agent. The adjusters for both Safety Insurance and Ford disagreed that it was a mechanical failure. So my daughter is found to be 50% at fault since the adjusters for both Safety Insurance and Ford have agreed this was the result of "off-roading/joy-riding" without viewing the images of the scene. We are appealing to let her know we believe in her, to teach her not to stand down in the face of adversity and negate the points. The car was mechanically repaired by the dealer and sent off to a body shop since the Ford dealership does not do body work. Ford indicated to me that I would need to pay for the mechanical work done up front before sending off to the body shop and I would need to be reimbursed by Safety Insurance. I paid so the body work could be completed which was on finished on May 1st. Safety Insurance posted that they paid the entire bill (both body work and the work done by Ford) to the body shop on the claims status account page. The claims handler was informed of the error on May 21 by email. Claims handler was called on June 19 since there was no response or action to inquire status and after some discussion, copies of the invoices showing that I made payment were sent by email. August 6th : no action from Safety Insurance and claims handler was contacted again. Claims handler said they will need to contact the appraiser to confirm whether the mechanical work is related to the loss. The same email thread has image of Safety Insurance's claims status page showing this amount was paid already to the body shop! This should have been corrected on June 19th at the least. You did not addressed this back on May 21st when this was first brought to your attention. You did not address this on June 19th when provide with further details. You have yet to address this since being reminded on August 6th. read more

Worst customer service we have EVER encountered. If possible, avoid this insurance company at all costs. If you get into an accident, they'll be quick to take your car, slow to process payment or answer any questions. We have called and emailed asking for updates, and some other simple questions about our claim, with absolutely NO response. Finally, right before we were going to escalate the matter, we got a response. No apologies, no nothing. Just a quick one line that didn't even answer what we asked. AVOID THEM.
