safeway itself is great, but the Starbucks workers are rude and were very disrespectful towards us. we were treated horribly and they lied to us. I was appalled by what they were saying and although one was sort of helpful she also told us "the question is simple just answer" which is absolutely ridiculous since we had previously answered it. overall not a good experience and I wont be coming back again. read more

I'm thankful for this Safeway, one of the only stores in this entire area, because my kid had a bit of a motion sickness mishap in the car and they somehow had everything I needed, including toddler-sized clothes, not something I expect from a grocery store. It was nice to pick up cleaning supplies, clothes, and a stomach-settling snack in one place, and this store was big enough to fit everything you could want or need. The parking lot was also large, and we had plenty of space to clean up without being near anyone else. If you don't already have their card, you can sign up right from the card reader at the register, which was very convenient, and the employee who helped me with the whole process was really nice. read more

The only reason to even shop here is convenience living close by. The customer service is horrendous, they never have lanes open it's ridculous. People standing around all the time doing nothing while people wait in line 5 or 6 people deep it's stupid.. open up the damn checkout lanes do your job. read more

I love this store I stop daily on my way home but for some reason 3xs now I've gotten shrimp that smells so bad I couldn't cook it or serve it. I've been sick and can't smell so by the time I get it home my by husband says they smell bad you can't cook that. I typically don't review places like a grocery store, but I was quite pleased with my experience at this Safeway. I'm an out-of-towner and instead of wasting time reading signs and going up and down aisles guessing if my item was in that aisle, I asked every employee I saw. And to my surprise, they were able to tell me exactly where everything was! Typically, I go in the store and ask where things are and I get the "I don't work in this section" which annoys the f* out of me, so that's why this stood out so much. Very strange selection choices and lack thereof. Never have I stepped in a grocery store that doesn't have a diet cherry cola in ANY brand. Disorganized too. Floral area stinks of rotten water. Just not worth it. I'd rather get all my groceries in one store and not have to go somewhere separate for a type of cola that everyone else carries. read more

I really like this location and unlike other grocery stores in the area. Clean location and the employees are always helpful whether in the morning or at night. This locations does have gas service and always convenient to stop in before or after work for snacks and a fill up. Despite not living here any longer, I still have friends and family in the area so I love coming into this location each time I am around. read more

The only reason they get 2 stars is because of convenience......This place needs a complete overhaul on Customer Service. The deli staff is the worst. I have stood at the counter for 5-10 minutes and get completely ignored. Btw, I was the only customer standing there. I will start driving to Harris Teeter or Giant from now on. read more

I drove out of my way to shop here just to see if the reviews were legit. I am glad that I did. The lady at the bakery was extremely helpful. There were no hand baskets at the front of the store. By the time I got back to the dairy section next to the bakery, my arms were overflowing. I took a chance and asked her if she may per chance have a basket and she offered a cart in the back. She stopped her busy re-stocking of artisan breads to pull the cart from the back and assisted me in placing my items into the cart. Before that, the seafood assistant directed me to this area for the deli. Such a great experience on my first visit to this store that I drove 20mins away from my home to. The deli was limited in the varieties, but honestly, this is not necessary because the meats there are quality meats. I was in line and before I knew it, another deli attendant asked me if I needed assistance. She verified the meat that I wanted sliced and did not skip a beat in how she asked me if I wanted to sample it or holding up the slice to confirm the size of the slice. She was a cheerful person as was everyone in the store. The original cashier was asked to go to the manager for something by a young man that continued to check out the customers in that lane. He was extremely efficient and cheerful while moving through the items and bagging them. I felt very welcome as a customer and he was patient as I pulled out coupons and paid for my purchase. He asked if I needed help getting the purchases to my car. What a delight! Final analysis: I made a 20 minute trip and got a little lost (having to drive through another grocery store lot elsewhere to get back on track) to get to this store. I was determined to take the extra time since it was a weekend and get out and about with this being the final destination. I'm glad that I did! It exceeded my expectations in comparison to neutral feedback I had read about. There were ample sales. I enjoyed the staff and products and will continue to go out of my way to shop at this store. read more

If I could leave 0 I would. My mother in law just came back. Every year we place an ahead order for shrimp and we did the same this year yesterday with a coupon from the paper. When she got there the gentleman multiple times said "listen lady we don't take preorders" "listen lady if you want fresh seafood go to Florida" They ended up honoring the coupon and sent her to customer service who told her to "hush up" after taking 3x to ring up the shrimp. No safety precautions and no enforcement , people without masks walking in store , when I asked cashier , her response was, yes they allow asthma patients and heart patients with no masks . Management should consider safety and health of customers as priority without letting everyone and anyone in with no masks . read more

Update: the store contacted me on yelp and wanted me to contact them on their website. I never could find a way to do that and I have a couple of degrees! I have already reported these items to management on multiple, multiple occasions. Only get attention on yelp. And since I'm on a roll, absolute worst Starbucks ever. Drinks are not made properly and barista has a terrible attitude in front of customers and to other employees. Machine is broken a lot. Because this store is the closest and in the middle of a subdivision we can't avoid it all the time, but we try hard. Lots of items expired, you really have to pay attention. Beer cooler has been running hot for TWO years and has mold. The store is very dirty if you look underneath and behind things at all. Service is good, but it takes more than that to run a store. It's the worst grocery in the area. First, bought expensive organic eggplants, and next day cut them open to see all of them rotten. Safeway did not accept return because of a nice excuse - COVID-19. When buying bakery from them make sure you do not eat somebody's hair inside. There are many other examples but do not waste my time. Stop going there, help to close it, and get something like Trader Joe instead. The community deserves a better grocery than this. read more

I have been shopping at this store for over 10 years, and today I experienced the worst customer service I've EVER experienced. Upon stopping for gas on my way to work, I was informed of a system issue with the pumps and payments must be presented inside. That is not a problem, I completely understand that technology decides to act wonky whenever it wants. I am young and have never paid for gas inside before, so I wasn't quite sure how it worked. Instead of walking me through the process or just simply being decent, the cashier at the time berated me in front of a line of other guests. I have worked retail and I would NEVER speak to a guest the way he spoke to me even if the guest is being rude to me, which was not even the case here. I accidentally said the wrong pump number because as I said I've never paid inside and didn't think to look before going inside. This cashier proceeds to say the correct pump number while also mumbling under his breath and saying I got the number wrong. If you know what pump I'm referring to why go the extra mile to make a guest feel dumb? A simple confirmation of the correct pump number would've been fine. He was then rude about every single thing to follow: the amount I'd like to pay, my Safeway rewards number, etc. I put in my number way before he asked because as I said I shop here often, and apparently the system was being slow. He proceeds to rush me to put my number in after I told him I already did. To have a man probably 3 times my age speak to me that way is extremely disrespectful and just plain uncalled for. Then when I called the store, the "manager" just talked over me and didn't even hear my concerns. I go to this location at LEAST 4 times a week and the employees are always amazing. This really just disappoints me and makes me not want to even shop here anymore. read more

I've live near Safeway and shopped there for years. Lately, the prices have gone up a lot, more than other stores and the customer service has gone down. There are some cashiers that are nice and a couple of Supervisors but some Cashiers there are not friendly, don't say Hello or Thank you, and act like they don't want to be there. There is a young man who didn't have a name tag on. I dread having to go to his line and only do when I have to. He handed me my change. I said thank you. He said nothing. Very bad service, last night I shopped from this location around 11:00 pm. Cashier number 7 I guess his name Luis that's what it says on the receipt . No greeting no nothing, I said hi how are you, no answer ! Busy playing with his phone by the computer. Never asked if I have a Safeway card. So I didn't get my discount I paid normal price instead of the sale price they're having. I paid got my change back and no thank you no nothing again, and he went back to his phone ! When we first moved to Bristow from Virginia Beach, I could not believe how expensive this place was. This was just prior to the bottom falling out of the economy, so things have moderated a bit since 2008, and the regular prices aren't so gouging anymore. I think Safeway has a great bakery. Their dinner rolls are excellent and you get a dozen for $2.69. They have very good cakes and muffins too. Their beer specials can be very good. I haven't noticed anything world beating recently, but they usually have good deals on Sierra Nevada and Sam Adam's beers. They can have some good sales on paper towels and toilet paper too. I don't find that I buy many groceries there. The meat an dairy prices are high, and can be beaten at other local grocery stores. The place can feel kind of claustrophobic too. read more

Most everything I buy ends up being expired. It's not my job to check expiration dates as a customer I expect everything to be fresh and dated. I try to pick my items from the back but that does not help. I was so upset one day that I grabbed everything off the shelf that was expired and placed it on the customer service desk. Also prices never match at register. I always go back weekly to get my prices adjusted such an inconvenience. I only shop there since it's 2 min from my house but may need to venture out to other stores. Such a hassle. read more

Don't recommend, store is not well maintained, clearly under poor management. Was in a hurry yesterday and bought for my lunch a couple of the oscar Mayer meat and cheese platters, when I opened up today saw that the meat was discolored and wheat crackers were stale, the expiration date was from August! What kind of store keeps food in the refrigerated section that expired weeks ago! Poor management, that's who. Don't even get me started with the Starbucks, their equipment is always down and their out of everything. I recommend Harris Teeter, they have a Starbucks inside and so far I haven't received expired products in the refrigerator section read more

The bakery is great. I drive past 5 grocery stores to get to this bakery. I ordered a special cake for our 5 year old with many special instructions. We were thrilled with the results. Ordered the day before which is a no-no everywhere else. This safeway is completely disorganized! I signed up for the club card & my phone # is not in the system because they still didn't turn in the applications to their headquarters, so I was told. I signed up in Oct 2011 & it's now Feb 2012! They said they send it out in batches or some ridiculous excuse. I plan on going back to demand my app back. Their produce is horrible & the checkout lines are always too long. The cashier's get too stressed out too. I am shredding this good for nothing rewards card! read more

This Safeway is just lacking in service, facility appearance, inventory, and prices. My last time in this store was 5 pm on a week night and they had no express lanes open. Of course there were many people in the store to pick up an item or two on their way home from work and we were 10 deep to use the self service check outs but no staff members on any of the express lanes. This is the sort of customer service culture this store has. The restrooms have graffiti in the stalls and are often unkept. Soups in the front are often almost empty and obviously not monitored. Often sale items are out of stock. Gas price sign in the front had been broken for weeks. None of these things alone would give this store a bad rating but the sheer number and the culture that allows these things make this a subpar business. They were the first store in this area but now with Harris Teeter, Giant, and Wegmans within a few miles this store is just so lacking. read more

I gernerally avoid this Safeway but I do like their Friday specials. I went their a few weeks to get my groceries because my friends said they had great prices/deals. What I continually found food that was past it's sell by date, the bagged salads were brown, and mostly neutral service. I always have to stand in line for a long time to check out because it never seems like they have enough cashiers. The store itself feels claustrophobic because of all the displays they have everywhere. They keep their "special" items at the end of the belt at the register. That is really a pain when I am trying to put groceries on the belt. read more

My recent experiences with this Safeway has been negative. At times, some of employees are rude and arrogant. Recently, I was in line behind an elderly woman who was trying to count her change before handing it to the cashier. The cashier was so rude to her; told her she was holding up the line, which was not true. After she left, the cashier told me that she can't stand people like that. In the past several weeks, I notice that the self checkout lines are very slow because the person who is suppose to monitor the line is not there. Others times, there is no one at the customer service desk. I do like Safeway's lower prices however some items are not readily available. My negative experience is only at this location; the Woodbridge and Fairfax location is very courteous and professional. read more

The prices here can be high but on occasion they have good deals which can be said about every grocery store out there. I've noticed that if you go here in the morning and early afternoon that the cashiers and everyone are very easy going and very friendly, but as the day progresses everyone starts to get stressed out once the rush comes in. I dont blame them either, ive seen some nasty customer, who apparently have had a bad day and take it out on the cashiers. I will be standing in line and watching it happen and i just think to myself, well damn that cashier has more self-control then i do because by the time someone takes their nasty, self-righteous attitude out on me i would send it right back at them. I stopped in here on 8-19-2017 en route to a cookout with a good friend and family. I needed to get a couple of items to make the cookout complete. I picked up chips and fruit. They had what I needed....and a few other items that I apparently wanted. The trip was quick and easy. Plenty of cash registers open eager to serve. I appreciate that. The fruit was very fresh looking and I'm sure my friends enjoyed it. The one thing that I did find annoying was outside of the store: People at the entrance asking me for money for this cause and that cause. When I come to the grocery, I come to buy grocery. I'm trying to put two nickels together to get some food, NOT support every charade under the sun. If you don't have money for your activity or whatever you are peddling, either get some from the parents, stop the activity or don't set up a table in front of a grocery store. It's a good store overall but there is one specific employee that has a major attitude and is very rude. I'm very unsatisfied with his customer service. He seemed so angry, and he didn't even tell me my total at the end and i just straight up handed him my money. I'm very disappointed. I was very unsatisfied and i would have straight up just left without purchasing anything but I didn't wanna be rude like he was. I expect better customer service from him in the future considering he is only what seems to be a teenager. The entire store is basically run by men. I find that very sexist but I guess that doesn't really matter, other than the fact that all the teenagers working there are really crappy workers. But overall it was a pretty good experience. I went to Starbucks after and the service there was much better. I would also like to point out that I can't order ahead or in advance from Starbucks so that's pretty upsetting considering it's my local Starbucks near me, but I guess it's okay. read more

Depressing environment. Many of their products are way overpriced. I would never buy a large amount of groceries here because they only ever have one cashier. Why not knock down a bunch of those registers and open up the store more? Produce seems better lately. The ONLY thing I have been consistently pleased with is their flower selection. Also, the Starbucks sucks. The only person that knows how to do anything there is the young girl that works there occasionally. All their stuff tastes wrong compared to any other location. A cappuccino is not suppose to be heavy like a latte. Don't bother ordering a seasonal specialty drink, bwa haahaa. They have no clue. read more

Zero stars would be more appropriate for this store. When you walk into the cart area entrance, it always smells like garbage. And once you find what you're looking for in this oddly laid out store, you can count on a line 6+ people deep in the one, maybe two check out lines that are open. Self checkout is twice as long. This is during peak hours - not random mid-day shopping. Drive the extra mile or two to any other grocery store than this one. read more
