Never had an impolite interaction, always clean and fresh produce. It's a Safeway in a nice neighborhood with attentive staff. Others are probably giving it bad ratings because the area is teeming with old farts who complain about everything. Their floral department is fantastic. read more

This Safeway is fairly new but it is harder to do returns here. The baker told us they could not slice the French bread for us as we would be charged additional for it. That is unheard off as other locations have no problem slicing bread for us at no extra charge. Aisles are not clearly marked and always hard to find what you need. read more

I love how I had to wait for almost 10min at the pharmacy. The store manager was talking with the head pharmacist in the back, and another employee even went to get the pharmacist to let her know I was out there. Finally she arrived and the store manager left and didn't even apologize to me about the wait time. The pharmacist helped me and I went on my way. Then I overheard the store manager talking about her conversation with the pharmacist to other employees. Classy act as a manager!!! Actually what a joke to be honest. If you need to talk with an employee about something, do it when they are not needed for customers. This manager is a joke and I have witnessed her numerous times yelling at employees. If you want to yell at staff, then do it to the kids working there with earbuds in and not paying attention to customers. This store has the worst customer experience and maybe the managers should look at themselves first and realize how to handle employee issues. I've been shopping here for over 25 years. No store has ever been as consistent as here. Friendly staff, with many years of service. Best fresh produce, meat and bakery. And now with all the great digital deals and drop in pricing, I'm saving so much more than I ever did at the big red bullseye. Today Friday. They seemed to be out of a few fresh vegetables that I was looking for. Not sale items. Got what else I needed and went to you-scan -card only. I did buy alcohol so I had to have a worker process it. It took several minutes. The young man had all the checkouts to tend to and was constantly moving. I'm not sure why the reviews show this location lower. I know that some of the Safeway's in the valley have had upgrades in decor and all, but the folks here, and the services are top notch. My son used to work for a large chain and managed the fresh fruits and vegetables area. I'm always on the lookout for places that match up to the effort he put into making sure things were stocked and displayed beautifully. This store has the worst stocked items! Every time I go in after work the produce is scarce, the shelves are out of stocked items. I hate stopping in as I never know if I'm wasting my time finding what I need. Yesterday, the iceberg lettuce was all spoiled and only a handful left.. including fruit trays and bagged salads. No bagged carrots were out.. slim pickings! Pretty sad and this isn't the first time I've seen it like this.. not sure I'll keep going to this Safeway anymore.. yesterday took the cake! This is one of the Safeway locations that flies under the radar but was really well stocked during the pandemic. It isn't the busiest Safeway in the Cave Creek/North Scottsdale area but it is the Safeway I frequent everal times a month to stock up on items. Yes, a self-checkout lane would be nice for those times when you really don't want to have to make small-talk with a cashier and get in/out quickly. But, I've rarely had an issue with long wait times at the registers and the store carries a wide variety of items. As with most Safeway stores, their produce section is a bit meh and some of it looks like it is past its prime, but any resident of Phoenix doesn't shop for their produce at a Safeway anyway. read more

I've read some of the other reviews and am thankful to say I had a very pleasant experience at this Safeway. One major advantage I've found here is that it is less busy (though that likely is just because I usually shop on Sundays). As compared to other grocery store chains, the variety is similar and the ability to walk through aisles without running into dozens of people is a really nice feeling. I had a grocery list of around 15 items and was able to get in and out within 20 minutes. I hustled to be sure, but it's an amazing feeling not having to spend an eternity at a grocery store. Huge plus is that the Starbucks was also handing out free samples of their lemonade and scones! read more

This just might be the most expensive and worst grilled cheese I've ever had. I went to Safeway's deli to order a grilled cheese, waited for over 5 minutes while the sushi lady did not call for help. When the employee finally arrived to help me; she had absolutely no interest in helping me and seemed bothered that I didn't want my grilled cheese on a bun. Supposedly they were out of sour dough, so she put it on white bread. It was thrown into the oven for a minute. What I got was 2 pieces of white bread, two pieces of cheese, not grilled for $5.49! It wasn't even fully cooked and certainly not grilled. Biggest waist of money and horrible sandwich. This Safeway needs management and quality control. read more

Staff is always friendly and nice. Never too busy. No self-check out (which I'd like), but the fact that it's usually not too busy there makes up for that. We VERY much appreciate not being hassled for being mask-free and have been choosing to shop at Safeway now (we used to be Fry's regulars) since the Mask orders were issued. The prices are great, the produce & dairy & bakery always fresh and well-stocked. I've been telling like-minded friends in the area that this Safeway is a great place to shop. I have been shopping here for over 20 years. Before the shopping nearby was developed which includes a grocery store this was the closest one to the house. I've never had an issue at this store, and my wife did most of the shopping during the pandemic but she says nowadays that some of the items are still hard to stock. We probably get 90% of the items at this store and 10% at the nearby store. We got our vaccines at the pharmacy and all went well for everyone but me. I developed a Frozen Shoulder just after my 2nd shot that had me in PT for 4 months :( I have to get my boosters now and will tell the pharmacist about my frozen should last time so I don't get one this time read more

Stopped in real quick to grab something to drink... the bathrooms are always so dirty... I haven't been to this location in a very long time, so I was hoping they would of fixed that issue... nope! Also the people who work the check outs are not the nicest and always seem to talk amongst themselves more than the customers... even the customer service manager... she talked to her employees in a loud obnoxious voice, mind you more than she did me, while checking me out. I generally like this store. It's less busy than most and I can find a few things that I cannot at other stores. Unfortunately the last two weeks I went there I've seen a few people without masks. Huge sign on the door states they require masks. Now I get it that the people without the masks probably aren't literate but the store manager really should enforce the stores policy. One guy was coughing up a storm last week and I just walked out and left my stuff in the cart. Not worth my health. Just feel bad for the workers because management cares more about the money than their health. Maybe when this is over I'll go back assuming someone doesn't get sick and sue the store. read more

I am super stoked I am the first one to review this Safeway! This is the Safeway in my hood. If Cave Creek is the hood? I don't actual do a lot of my shopping at Safeway. It is split between Costco, Target, and here. I have a few staples I come in for and that's about it. The odd beer run as well. There produce is always very fresh and well stocked. I mostly by my vegetables and the occasional fruit bunch here. The cashiers are always very nice and fast. They also don't mind when I walk in with about 5 minutes to go before closing. Obviously, no one in Safeway management ever reads these posts. Delivery service is awful!! Don't deliver your groceries as scheduled. Don't even text, email, or call you that they're not going to be delivered. When you call the help line, you're put on hold for an hour until you finally hang up! Ok, so let's leave an email and a voice mail to them? Right? Well, they don't even reply to those either. If you're not going to do online grocery delivery relight, why don't they just get out of that business? Expired products.....packaged lunch meats are brown,on at least three occaisions in the last 6 months....small black gnat like flies coming from their fountain drink coke dispenser....couldn't tell anyone because no one was around,left my cup,passed on the bugs.Alot of cashier turnaround....about the only good thing is their pharmacy personnel,but they don't seem to last long either.And one more thing,unless you like your bread bagged with bleach,keep an eye on the bagger....they either overload the bags or smash your bread or chips....almost every time.Been going here for 12 years,before frys arrived....finally had enough...I go to the Safeway at pinnacle and Scottsdale road.The gnat incident was the middle of October 2015...many gnats,it was nasty,that was it for me.... read more

I live right down the street and have been shopping here for ten years. EVERY time I go in I swear I'm never going back! I end up going back after a few weeks due to convenience and repeat the same thought of never going back. Always look at the expiration date on everything. Their dairy is usually expired and I bought some sun dried tomatoes in a jar that had expired 2 year ago! We told the manager and she just laughed it off. They have a saying '3's a crowd' which means long lines and someone is suppose to open another lane. That rarely happens! You have to self bag. The staff are SO rude an unhelpful especially the butcher and the deli people. It is horrible and writing this I vow to never go in there again! Unprofessional. My prescription was given to me with the wrong amount of medicine yet I was charged for the full amount. The pharmacist kept interrupting me trying to argue to the point I asked her if I could finish my sentence. She did not fix the issue and I am most definitely switching pharmacies. Don't bother using the delivery service it's terrible! I tried it for the first time and was given a two hour window from 1-3 on a Sunday. 20 minutes before 3 I get a call that my delivery will be delayed but the guy says he can't give me an estimated time when they will be delivered cause they are backed up. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but when you are waiting on groceries to make dinner and have half the dinner already made it's frustrating! People use this service out of convenience because they are busy and work during the week so there's little time to anything much less grocery shop. I am giving Safeway three stars. I wish I could give the wonderful woman behind the sushi counter five stars. She is very friendly and I have found this to be the best grocery store sushi around! Plus she always offers to make something fresh. She's amazing! I want to give the check-out service/staff only 1 star. Every time I visit, the service is tremendously slow. Today, my husband waited in line while I went to the Starbucks counter. I ordered and drank my entire latte (it was hot) before he even made it to the clerk at the register! The clerk, proceeded to overcharge, undercharge, double scan and deleted numerous items from the customer in front of us. Our order too! I know the store's inventory will be a mess and her cash drawer will not be accurate. Maybe she is new.... Either way, this was a pour reflection on the store and our experience today.
