They treat their employees like they're not worth anything and work them crazy hours. Their management is horrible they don't know how to speak with their employees they are rude and disrespectful and they can't keep their store together. Ok so I literally find myself at Safeway every day. It's a problem. This is a baby store- I either go here or the one on mangrove depending on what I'm closer to. This particular one is small and probably carries about half of the products than mangrove. It's frustrating but since I live next to this one now I tend to go here out of convenience. This is the closest store to me unfortunately. My wife or I will stop here if we need something really quick if we're on our way home or don't want to drive to Raleys on East. The parking lot is poorly lit at night and if you need something and check their website for this location to make sure they have it, 9 times out of 10 they won't. So don't bother (literally just happened to me yet again 10 minutes ago). This location also seems to attract a lot of vagrants. If you're going shopping for the week, avoid this place like the plague. If you just need an ice cream fix at 11 at night, it works. Just go armed. read more

Alcohol is WAY too expensive. A friend suggested that theft was the cause for such inflated pricing. If you can help it, shop elsewhere On a lighter note, the sandwiches at the deli are great! Quite possibly the tastiest meal you can get in this area.. though that's not saying much. read more

This location sucks. If you go in after like 8 PM, there will be no milk on rack. It's just so close to campus that it's impossible for it to be nice. Nothing on W. Sac is really very classy, and this Safeway is no exception. There will be a lot of hobos outside wanting your change, they lock half the doors after it gets dark so you can only come in one side because they are afraid of violence, and the aisles are cramped and poorly stocked. So yeah, I always drive an extra few blocks to East for my groceries. read more

Everyone who works here is very nice. I see a lot of bad reviews. Some young customers in line are very impatient and rude. They should try being a cashier in a busy college town. Love the employees, great avocados! Great deli, delicious rotisserie chickens and salads. Clean store, some bums outside but bums are everywhere nowadays. I ordered a birthday cake for my child with a pick up day a week later. When I went to pick it up the day of his birthday party, Nicole told me that the order slip must have gotten lost. She was the one that took the order, she remembers taking that order, yet it got lost.. she tells me that it'll take her about 20 minutes make a cake if I wanna wait around. I tell her I am really running out of time but I don't really have another option. I tell her I will do a bit of shopping (ice cream, plastic forks, candles) I also ask if I'm going to get a discount for it. She sounds hesitant but says yes. So I do my other shopping, check out in the usual ridiculously long line. I go to check on the cake. Nicole inform me that it's done. She brings its out to me so I can check it. Looks great. So I go to get my wallet out to pay and she tells me " I can't check you out here. And neither can she(pointing to the other baker behind her) and I don't think he can either (pointing to the deli guy) I grab the cake and start to head to the ridiculous long line that I just stood in 10 minutes beforehand. Oh and that discount... a whooping 10 percent. For their mistake! My wasted 30 minutes wasn't worth their 10 percent.. read more

This Safeway ripped me off I went in and bought 3 avocados and a tomato and put them all in the same bag thinking it would be more environmentally friendly. I went to pay and got charged the regular amount for the avocados and then got charged the weight of the whole bag for the one tomato. On the receipt it says my tomato weighed nearly 2 lbs and cost 3.50?? By the way the tomato cost more than the 3 avocados altogether. There's no way a little Roma tomato costs 3.50$ when I almost bought a bag of 5 of them for 2.99$. Feels dirty both inside and out. Gets a lot of the students and transients in the area due to the location. It needs to upgrade it's exterior lighting (which might be the property manager's responsibility and not necessarily Safeway's control). By lighting I don't mean signs, I mean parking lot lights. They need to be BRIGHT in this area for safety at night. Unless you're in a bind don't go here. Go to Raley's on East Ave or another Safeway location. read more

Overall this Safeway is descent. The only thing I have to complain about is the terrible customer service I received from Brittany today. She was super snappy and rude; her customer service skills were below average and definitely need to be worked on. Even after their recent facelift, It's still a very conservative Safeway. Not a very big selection of beer or wine. Their bakery and meat department is a tiny. I am out in Chico to celebrate a friends birthday and I was quite impressed by the customer service. Martha wrapped roses for me and they were beyond beautiful. She took time to arrange them perfectly. Then our cashier Jan was very friendly. She double checked our berries to make sure we didn't grab a bad bunch. She even offered us a napkin, just in case we wanted to eat them in the car. This store is small and it was refreshing to have great staff on a busy New Years Eve. read more

This safeway is ok if you live right across from it like I do, but because of the size of it it often has a smaller selection and because of that you might end up paying a little more than the other locations. If I just need something quick I come here, but If I have the time I would rather go to one of the other larger locations. It still has the clearance sections which I like, and the people that say it is "dirty" are probably just a little spoiled and associate a smaller store in a slightly less nice area with being "dirty", I've been going to this one for years (I've lived in apartments nearby since 2008) and have never noticed a cleanliness issue, not once. read more

It's just a typical smaller sized Safeway compared to the one in Mangrove Ave. I got no issue with the food they sell here. The outside location such as the parking lots are terrible. You cannot see anything at night due to the lack of night lights over there. The other problem that I realized are some of the customer service here. Some of the "college" students that work here are usually rude, condescending, or never even say "hi" or a "thank you" at the end. That is complete crappy service here, but the more matured employees tend to be a lot nicer. They really need to train their younger staff on how to act like people. If they really want a job, then they need to do what is necessary to keep it. Not telling me how much I owe them for the groceries at the register isn't going to want me to come back ever again. Also the wait time took more than twenty minutes to just buy something because they were short on staff, and there were so many people all at once. Hopefully they can improve because this store is close to my house. read more

I'd normally not give stars this bad, but this branch sure takes the cake after going here for years now, due to convenience. +1 star for friendly service and +1 star for opening at 6 am until 2am the next day. Makes it convenient when you're in a pinch. BUT -1 star for overpriced items (defeats the purpose of NOT eating out) cause I found myself easily spending $30+ on one small shopping basket. Feels like I go eating out at a higher-tier restaurant that nearly manages not needing to bother to put cents in their menu anymore 24/7. -2 stars for baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad security. Really bad. I have been stolen from THREE STINKING TIMES over the course of the 4 years I've been here (a macbook, one of my 2 bike bags, and recently, followed by a front bike wheel). Twice, after having been gone for about 10-15 minutes, and out of these two times, one of them in bright daylight. I've once talked to the security there and I mentioned about installing surveillance cameras. They told me they would have loved to, but the property leaser wouldn't allow it. Well, either the leaser is doing sugar honey iced tea of a job while ignoring all complaints and raking in money at the expense of poor college students while having their stuff stolen or the manager of the store is not forwarding these complaints (and maybe their own) to the leaser. Welp, if it weren't for the college students living at University Village or in the apartments nearby it would long have become a ghost outdoor mall by now. I am in total agreement that Safeway should have better exterior lightening at night. Actually, if the Walgreens next door had better lightening, they why can't they? Security cameras would have made a big world of difference. Like my stuff. And the guy who got jumped on one morning IN FRONT OF the Safeway when I was walking by? He probably would not have gotten jumped and gotten a concussion. And yes, I refuse to shop without my bike. It's my carrying vehicle, alternative to a car. Did I mention earlier some stupid a-hole went and stole one of my bike bags, AND THEN stole my front wheel?? I can't wait until I can get a car to drive elsewhere to shop and not in this godforsaken place. Feels like I can no longer shop here on foot without getting jumped on and sexually assaulted. I would have given this place a few more stars if security wasn't an issue and if the prices would have been a bit cheaper. Then the staff there would not have suffered. read more

I used to work next to the mangrove Safeway, and was a daily visitor to their deli- which is amazing! I went into the Nord Safeway due to location wanting to get a wrap. The young lady started by grabbing a paper wrap to start my order that was dirty and had crumbs from another customers sandwich. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap, and she squirted enough sauce to cover 3 wraps. I then asked if I could have the grilled chicken warmed with cheese on top. She then threw the cold chicken, bacon and cheese into the now sauce drenched wrap, and asked if I wanted any produce. (When handling the chicken and bacon she threw them directly onto the counter using no containers or papers) I had asked her to warm the chicken with cheese and bacon separately in the oven, for that's what they do at the mangrove safeway. She then rolled her eyes, slopped the tortilla over to throw it into the oven. I then stopped her, to explain how mangrove warms the chicken and cheese in a container, and the bacon separately so that they can dab the grease off before putting it into the wrap. Her attitude got extremely worse, rolled her eyes and snapped at me "UGH well everyone does it differently" I was so disgusted, I don't think she would have even eaten the wrap that she was making. I told her never mind that I didn't want it anymore, and drove to the Mangrove Safeway that made a perfect, sanitary tasty wrap. I'm a college student, that doesn't have extremely high expectations or a clean freak at any means. But the sanitation of the Nord deli is terrible and their training needs to improve. read more

this location is hella ridiculous. they always run out of stuff much sooner than the others. today i went to get a sandwich made and i somehow got the reject dutch crunch bread cuz it was smashed to about an inch in width. i was really hungry so i didnt care. get to the register and all the employees are like ladies from the 80s, i'm like daaamn i know you wanna look 80s but does that mean you gotta tell me a story book worth of words that i dont even have the capacity to listen to cuz i'm hella days hungry??!! so she asks if i want to donate money and i say no and then she's like, 'are you sure, it only adds a little bit.' bro noooo! the whole time she's saying this i'm trying to tell her that she pressed the ebt button ***gee thanks, profiling me. i have more education than that frizzy haired mukkalukka*** on her register and it wont let me slide my debit card. and to top it off, the "five" "dollar" "meal" "deal" wasn't even $5 even though thats whats advertised. i only go here cuz i can walk to it but i think i'm just guna go to the mangrove one from now on. more space, more stuff, aaand self-check out. like i said this place is hella ridiculous. read more
