I have been using this Safeway bakery for the past six years buying three or more cakes a year. I have bought two custom cakes this month and had unsatisfactory service. Today I sat at the bakery for twenty minutes being ignored even though someone was called twice over the loud speaker. When I got fed up and used my personal cell phone to call customer service they sent a bag girl to touch my cake. Not only did she dent up the side. She smeared the cake on the cake container. On top of all this I ordered a whipped cream cake with no border airbrushed orange and I got a crappy white cake with nasty Buttercream frosting border . My son's 12 b-day cake is ruined. read more

I shop at the location most frequently because it conveniently located close to my home. It has a large parking lot, which is shared with neighboring businesses and is usually almost always full. The size of the store itself is about average and has all of the standard features such as a pharmacy, florist counter, customer service counter, etc. However, this location does NOT have a gas station or a Starbucks like many others do. This store has decent prices and always has some kind of discount or sale going on somewhere in the store. The produce section of the store could be better. I usually have to spend a while searching for decent fruits and vegetables. Every time I have needed to go to the customer service counter I have had to wait at least 5-10 minutes for an employee to come help me. Also, I have never once seen more than 2 cashier lanes open at any one time. This makes it difficult to run in and out quickly. One experience that stands out as a positive is that when I was in the process of moving someone from the produce department was kind enough to put aside numerous big boxes for me, saving me a good deal of money on moving supplies. Overall, the staff (while usually understaffed) is very friendly and helpful. read more

Decided to give this location another chance (on the way home). BIG MISTAKE! I should have gone out of my way to either Roseville (Cirby & Sunrise) or Fair Oaks (Hazel and Madison). This location is still AWFUL. Bad enough the store looks dirty and dingy for a Safeway. I get it, it's old, in a location well past its prime, next to a THRIFT store. That wouldn't matter if the service were decent, but it'd be poor for a WAL-MART, let alone with what I'm used to at a Safeway. Since its $5 Friday, was gleaning the specials. And decided to get some chicken wings (at least they're well prepared, THAT didn't disappoint!) However, they make you purchase hot foods SEPARATELY at the Deli. When I asked the front end manager that I dealt with, Kirsten, why, she mentioned that they had a problem with theft, presumably of hot foods. Great. If I wanted to be treated like a thief, again, I can go to Walmart and be thus INSULTED, at least I'd get lower prices to go with the expectations and regard. As is OFTEN the case with Safeway, just because they advertise the specials doesn't mean that you'll receive them at checkout. This seems to be especially true with the "scan and save" items, never mind that often to get them to scan you've gotta get your bend and stretch in. I guess I should appreciate the "Free Pilates", but I could just imagine the 80 y.o. Vietnam veteran in the motorized cart trying to work the scan! So, never mind that the checker seemed rushed and unwilling to verify that I got my discounts, I checked the "tale of the tape" and indeed found SEVERAL that weren't credit. What was also discouraging was that I'd met a criteria for a $5 off a $50 purchase offer with the COMBINED purchases (remember, I had to buy the hot chicken wings separately), but the checker didn't give me that discount. So, the front end manager asked to see the scanned discounts on my app, and I didn't know how to retrieve them for verification, and she was either knowledgeable of the Safeway app or simply unwilling to show me how to find them. Finally, rather condescendingly and huffy, she went to the locations that the items were at to verify the discounts. She did give me them, and after I pointed out that I did meet the $5 off the purchase offer (it likely would have automatically triggered had I been able to buy the hot food at the checkout like I always have before), relented and gave me the discount. This seems most typical of THIS particular Safeway store, though to be fair I've noted that other stores often have the trouble with discounts not ringing up. What's made me decide to never patronize this particular location again is the rather rude and unknowledgeable staff and management. If I want poor service that wouldn't meet even Walmart standards, then at least I want the Walmart pricing for the trouble. read more

I wish any of the stores in natomas had this selection. I had to stop while visiting a friend and ended up doing most of my grocery shopping for the week. The store was well lit, clean, and the employees friendly. However, no health or natural foods section. I found a sign that said health food but no food that typically falls under that umbrella. read more

I refuse to buy produce at Walmart, so we normally purchase produce here as well as other items we cannot find at other stores. Until recently they were the only store I found to carry Kerry Gold Dubliner Cheddar Cheese, so yummy! The store is clean and the staff is helpful and friendly. read more

I had to share my appreciation of the Staff in the Pharmacy department of this Safeway Pharmacy including Christine M. I have been a long time customer of both the store as well as the pharmacy department and EVERYONE in the pharmacy consistantly goes above and beyond. They have always been extremely helpful and courteous. They engage immediately when i arrive no matter what they are currently doing. Always friendly and welcoming. Extremely polite, respectful and professional of any situation comes their way. I feel assured that when I am in their hands, every avenue of their expertise is at my disposal. I walk away every time with a sense that I truly have the entire team behind me. Thank you guys for being you. What an awesome team you are. This is a very clean store. Well stocked and very organized! I was in and out quickly. Nice cashier. It was so perfect i had to take pix. Usually i dread going to a Safeway because they always reek of fish funk, but this one was so clean i didn't even think they had a seafood section. I was in front of it and still no smell. I've lived in Citrus Heights for over 10years and have shopped at this Safeway for years its a beautiful store! I'm a single mother and was shopping here the other morning with my 1year old son and if its not embarrassing enough to use WIC vouchers your cashier Pamela was very rude and rolled her eyes when she saw my WIC vouchers it really embarrassed me so I will go out of my way to go to another store now! This Safeway location has one the worst customer service (except for that one guy who is too nice), there's first of all lines all the time, once we came in to grab something and when I saw the line I just left everything and went else where, the line was literally up to the meat section! The cashiers are rude and always have this annoyed or angry look. We'll all of these things didn't bother me as much as what the treatment the florist gave us, that's why I'm writing this review. We came to get some flowers, we picked out four or five bouquets and asked the girl to combine them for us, and I asked if she can do it standing and she's like "that's gonna be $5 extra for each bouquet" (=$25 extra), I'm like "okay, just do it laying", so we wait and then she gave us the bouquet which was wrapped horribly, I mean she was just too greedy to give a little more wrapping paper so the bouquet looked badly wrapped, and she was like giving attitude the whole time,I'm like whatever I'll know next time not ask this one or not come here for flowers. So then my sister was with us and she just asked her for the paper to wrap and get cash back, and my sister asked for $100, the florist gave her $20s and $10s, my sister asked "do you have a whole $100?" She's like "no" with attitude, then my sis was like then do you have two fifties at least she's like, "change it at customer service if you need it." We were just shocked at how rude she was. I would give no stars if I could. Dropped a prescription off on a Friday to get filled, they said it won't be in until Tuesday. I come on Wednesday and the pharmacist is at lunch so they won't give it to us. Come back today a whole week later and they still don't have it filled nor do they even have it in stock. This will be the last time I go to this Safeway pharmacy or any for that matter. There is no sense of urgency or that they did anything wrong. Absolutely ridiculous! read more

It's not walmart so it gets 2 stars however. I used to go to the one on Dewey which I would easily give 5 stars. This review is for the Customer Service manager named KIMBERLY. It was thanksgiving morning and my husban went in to get some yams as I waited in the car, he came back and I said those are too small just exchange for some sweet potatoes instead. As my 2 yr old son and I wait in the car 15 minutes goes by and im now wondering what is taking so long. He is texting me telling me what is going on and that when he went back to return the yams for the sweet potatoes Kimberely was sure he took one yam out of the bag because it was a lesser weight ( which, I wouldnt recommend going to this store knowing that the weight didnt register the same as a second ago ) when I walked in about 25 minutes later she was giving my husband the worst customer service anyone could ever give. No im sorry for the inconvenience, have a nice thanksgiving, im sorry this took so long is there anything I could do to help. Nothing. After she finally could refund my husband for 5 yams 25 minutes later, ( mind you I have the receipts of all transactions.... how the scale was off and how he paid 1.99 per lb and when she tried to refund she was refunding him at the club card cost of .99 a lb.... and actually said my husband owed her a dollar! it was unbelievable. As my husband and I walked out I said put our son in the car and im going back in there to get her title and name. As i walk in and confront her she looks at me and say "sorry you are misunderstood, you wern't here when it happened" now calling my husband a lier. I was so disgusted in this ladies behavior and for someone like that to have the managers position. Went here to grab something quick for dinner. Browsed the rotisserie chickens and a bunch of them were in some shallow square containers with the lids popping off because the chickens didn't fit properly. Two were in the regular containers so I decided to get one. Looked for a side to go with it and saw a risotto. Checked the code date and it should've been pulled 2 weeks ago! Asked if they had any new ones in the back and while waiting I stood at the service deli counter and saw what a mess it was back there. There was a spill of some kind of liquid on the floor, debris all over the place, and the slicer was filthy! I love this Safeway, lived in the neighborhood for 3 years now and it is my go to store. The employees know me and greet me by name and with a smile. They have a great selection and are rarely under stocked on anything I need, which can be a problem in big box stores. The prices are reasonable if you shop sale prices in conjunction with your club card. Also, the gas rewards make a trip here well worth the money spent! This location does not have a gas station but the Dewey Dr. location does which is around the corner so it is very convenient. I am a happy customer and will continue to return to this store weekly for my grocery needs. read more

Their pharmacy is ABYSMAL! Four months and they couldn't get the "code" for a glucose meter. After a week they still can't can't fill an order for insulin. They don't answer a phone when I try to get the scripts to another pharmacy. I would have given them a 0 but that isn't an option. read more

This appears to be the only chain that still does this. I went into the store on a lark after 10 years away because of those cards. Looks like I won't be back for another ten. This Safeway is average size and I actually think they sometimes run specials you won't find at other locations due to the lack of customers. The entry is small and awkward. They really need to kick out the peddlers they allow at the front door. There is one small entrance and you have to walk past them to get a cart, so they can't be avoided. read more

Easy to preorder cakes with 24 hr notice. Reasonably priced. A picture book to look through, but you have to pay extra (about $6) for the toys on top. Primarily that whipped frosting stuff. Kids love it and it's the right amount of light to sweet that encourages having a 2nd piece. read more

This used to be my favorite store when I lived closer to it. On my way home from a friend's, I stopped by to get some fruit and veggies as an "in between" shopping trip, remembering how awesome Safeway produce is. One of those items was cottage cheese to go with my berries. So, here it is, Sunday night and I'm preparing my meals for tomorrow. I go to open the cottage cheese and there's pink spots on it! I look at bottom and see that it's well the sell by date! Frustrated, because it's out of my way to take it back and I don't have time, I call and ask if they will put the $3.89 back on my card. Nope, they won't, so here I am yelping. I shop at Winco mostly, as it's about all I can afford for big shopping trips these days. To illustrate this, I've NEVER gotten anything rotten or expired at Winco, and they are seen as lower end than Safeway. This Safeway seems to be at Walmart quality with Raley's prices. To boot, I would've paid much less at Winco than I did yesterday. Please don't shop at this location. I second someone's recent post about the fruit, too. I found a bunch of rotten organic strawberries. Something not right is happening here, whether it's bad management, no profits, whatever. And when I called, there was no willingness to work with me. Pretty much, the person I spoke to didn't care and even more alarming, didn't sound the least bit surprised like she gets this sort of call regularly. Went in and ordered 2 1/2 sheet tres leches cakes from the bakery. Customer service was good and the cakes looked great. When it was time to cut the cake, it turned out that the bread was stale and very hard to cut into.I ordered it tres leches and no portion of the 2 cakes were moist! Went in the next day to talk the store manager and she seemed annoyed( yet she kept a smile on her face) that I was complaining about there stale cakes.
