I'm going to call the police every time I shop there so there could be an official police report every time I get followed while door dashing. A police report in which the employees will be named as they will be asked to identify themselves by the police so not wearing a name tag on purpose to avoid accountability. The name, picture, and police report will be sent to to corporate. I made my decision. Also, I'll also be suing which means you'll be subpoena and under law have to turnover any evidence untampered such as video surveillance (which should have your employees hounding me while door dashing). This was the best Safeway at one point, then they hires the worst employees. Today I went to buy bacon, I selected some decent not to fatty but not to meaty. I tried to not be that "guy" the lady butcher grabbed what I wanted. When I asked for a little bit less she did the switcharoo and gave me super fatty almost NO MEAT WHAT SO EVER. The employees are so great, however, the quality of the products produce has gone down so much in the last 10 years. And now other products are less quality. Sad that the prices are being raised and the quality is so low. I bought a pack of cookies last week and as I took each cookie out of the package, they crumbled apart, all of them. This location is very convenient to me but the lines are pretty ridiculous at any time of the day. I don't know why they wouldn't open an express lane at 5PM. This has been my Safeway for 40 years (my whole life). The remodel has been annoying but the improvements are nice. But why would you move the Chinese food to a place where people can contaminate it? People do weird things to exposed food. As for the panhandling, this seems like something Safeway could control, but people being so offended by it seems a bit drastic. I have never felt unsafe at this Safeway, but homeless people on drugs don't really make me feel unsafe. A little uncomfortable? Maybe sometimes, but then so do sober people with houses. read more

So I went to this Safeway 07/31/23 at approximately 8:45 pm on Willow Pass to use the DMV renewal machine inside. If you read my other review on the location in Bay Point, I am not a fan but went in open minded. I used the left double doors, went inside, turned right and found someone on the machine. I needed orange juice and a few small items so I decided to shop and then go back after paying as it was adjacent to the self scan. After paying for my items, there were 2 people now on the DMV machine. I patiently waited and another 15 minutes later I conducted my transaction and head towards the same door that I came in. Yes, I acknowledge there was an empty cart in the pathway next to the Self Checkout and she did not stop me and in fact said goodbye when I walked past her and the cart. When I got to the door, it would not open. I paused for a sec and thought there was a malfunction and began to look for a sign. Suddenly a male uniformed guard yelled "Sir, Sir" and something I did not hear. He walked up on me and in a strong tone said the door was locked. I exclaimed back "a little early isn't it? " He loudly said "we always close these at 9pm" and got close to me and peered in my blue shopping bag. I said thank you and walked to the opposite doors. The female was very nice and said thank you. This was approximately 915 pm and I was wearing a gym shirt, carrying a blue canvas bag and orange juice if Safeway wants to validate the incident. I do see what has been happening around the bay area with organized retail theft but why would it be necessary to yell at someone at a locked door? And then scolded because I did not know the policy about closing it at 9pm? And by the way, a sign would have helped! I gave one star back because the store was organized and the female guard and self checkout attendant were nice. read more

Tonight, on August 5, 2021, I went to the deli around 8:30pm looking for a nice pre-made sandwich. The selection was quite picked over but I was able to find one that looked appealing and very appetizing. Super excited to get home to finally eat my sandwich, I opened the package, removed the sandwich, pulled out the condiments, and was ready to spread on that mayo and to my SURPRISE, I opened it to find a DEAD FLY just chilling in the top piece of bread. Profiling & Threats Of Harm. So I'm not only a regular here at the store but I also used to work this location as cashier. Quit a few months back for a better job. Tonight was my first time entering the store for the first time in about a week. Side note: I deliver for UberEats/DoorDash on an electric scooter When I walked in I noticed they went overboard with security. 2 armed security guards at each entrance. I only got about 20ft into the store when I was stopped by 2 separate security guards. They told me I need to go to the front with them. When I asked why they said that I can either go to the front or they'll cuff me & drag me to the front. So I complied & went to guest relations with them. When we got there they refused to answer questions & said I need to wait for the police. After about 10 minutes the police showed up. The security guards said I violated policy by bringing in my electric scooter & that I shoplifted. I literally just walked into the store. The police asked me to open my backpack & I told them no. I said check the cameras & you'll see I just walked in. So the police asked to see the cameras & they security guards said no. They said they didn't have access to them. So I asked if I can leave, the cops said yes & the security guards said no. The police explained that they can't legally can't do anything without proof. So I left with one of the officers & the other one stayed with the security guards to question them. Me & the officer who was super nice talked outside about my electric scooter & how I literally came to Safeway to get an UberEats order. Not long after the other officer walked out & said they want me trespassed from Safeway. The officer told me he is not going to trespass me but did warn me about going back. Stating this might happen again. I feel upset about this whole incident. I'm a regular customer who comes every week for groceries & never once been told this. The managers didn't even care & let the security guards handle everything. I will not be returning to this location anymore. read more

I like safeway overall but on Friday I went to get groceries and decided to buy a whole chicken, talked to the butcher to see if he could cut it for me, first he said they didn't do that and then he asked if I asked other butchers at different stores if they could do that for me, when I said Yes, he asked me "then, what are you doing here"? I went on explaining that on that particular day I wanted a chicken from Safeway. He went ahead and cut the chicken for me but I don't think it was appropriate for him to asked what was I doing there. That was rude and disrespectful. I don't think I'm the first person asking to to have a chicken cut in pieces nor did I will be the last one. read more

Wow, I see lots of reviews about crime and shoplifting in this parking lot. I guess a lot has changed since I lived in this area. I was planning to leave three stars for different reasons. Nothing to do with any crimes. I thought the pace always felt safe. Had even walked to this plaza many times. Anyway, times change. Terrible Pharmacy. My wife who is an essential worker was denied her vaccine there by a woman who said, and I quote "in my opinion, agricultural workers means like picking avocados and stuff." Extremely rude, ignorant and incorrect on all fronts. My wife had multiple supporting documents showing her eligibility to receive the vaccine, and in fact that her work in the agricultural industry absolutely qualified. She walked out without the vaccine and was promised a call the next day to discuss further, and of course that didn't happen. Very unprofessional staff in the pharmacy, I have no opinion on the rest of the store but if you are going there to get your vaccine, be ready to have somebody literally pick and choose who is essential or not based on her own uneducated opinions. read more

I loathe Safeway. It's expensive, the produce sucks, the clientele is mostly scary, & the employees are over-the-top fake friendly. I don't need every employee to greet me as I walk down the aisles. The only reason I shop here is because it is only a few blocks from my house. Usually I only stop in for a few quick items & I always leave feeling ripped off. Against my better judgment, I stopped in last night (a Sunday) to pick up a few items. Sunday evenings are a notoriously bad time to visit. We like to call it "Armageddon Safeway". That's when you try to purchase something simple like milk & they are sold out. The shelves are usually half bare as well. This time I came early enough to get my milk & 3 other items. Then I made my way to the new self checkout lanes. What a nightmare! There are 6 lanes with 1 employee monitoring the area. Well, I can sure see how Safeway saved a few bucks here by removing actual humans & installing these self service stalls. At any given time, 4 of the 6 lanes had flashing red lights which meant they needed help from the 1 employee manning the area while everyone else had to wait. She would go to one lane, help the customer, then run to another lane, etc. I was first in line & must have waited over 10 minutes just to get to a lane, then when I got there something was still wrong with it & I had to wait for her to come over just so I could get started. Arrgghhhhhhhhh! I wanted to throw my groceries & run out screaming. I can't say whether these were computer or customer errors, but they need to have more than one employee in that area. One time I bought some non alcoholic beer at the self checkout & I still had to wait for an employee to verify my birth date. This place just plain sucks. read more

I purchased some Honey Crips apples. As you might know they are not inexpensive, about $100/pound (not quite). When I cut one up, the seeds inside the core were already sprouting tap roots. The apples had been picked so long ago (probably very "green") that the internal mechanism for survival was already turning the seeds to consume the apple. And this was very clear in the taste. Bland. If I had never experienced a really good honey Crisp apple, this Safeway experience would make me think, "What's the big deal. These apples are as bland as any other Safeway apple.") If I want fresh, tasty vegetables and fruit, I have now been convinced that Safeway & Costco are NOT the place! Whole Foods, at least so far, is the place to go if I want my produce to be worthwhile. I shop at the Willow Pass Safeway all the time. Yesterday was the first time I had food delivered. (My husband and I both have Covid symptoms, so waiting for results of our test.) By default when you check out there is an option to select "okay to substitute product / sizes." I just left that option especially since I ordered produce and meat which varies in size. However, one of my meat products I ordered was $11. It was substituted with a package costing $47 (with $11 off for Safeway members). When I reached out about it, the only thing the Safeway rep said was that "I agreed to accept a different size, so there is nothing they can do." Just wanting to share to be careful when you select this option. Your total could be way more than you expected if you don't change this default option when you order! read more

I logged on to give praise to the clerk who checked me out - Melissa. She actually smiled, talked to me and talked about the merchandise like she was genuinely interested. Made things very pleasant and friendly. An art that seems to be lost these days. After reading the other reviews I just want to comment that this is in a downtown location and, if you hadn't noticed, our homeless and mental health problem is out of control-everywhere! In spite of some vagrant people walking through the parking lot I felt the store and parking lot were clean, shelves well stocked and produce fresh. One policy I wish all Safeways would change is not dealing with shoplifting. We wind up paying for it which is wrong. I have been to several Safeways in nicer areas where people just walk out with a six-pack of booze and no one says anything. They need to do the right thing. read more

I continued on the way home and stopped at the Willow Pass Rd., Concord Safeway near me 9:30 PM. I went through self check out with two boxes of Cheerios. The woman employee in self check out at this time would not honor the rain check since it was from another store. This woman employee has seen me at this store for years. I have lived near the Willow Pass store since 1987. I was a Safeway employee long ago, Park Blvd. Safeway, San Diego, CA 1966 to 1972. read more

There seems to be one young girl and one older girl picking up all the slack, I noticed the deli manager Rafael is incompetent in managing this deli. And If store managment put The young woman "falisha" in charge of the deli. It would probably get my steady business back. Take the time to go to denkenger (4 stars) or the clayton/YV location is the best around. (5 stars) Also the bakery at willow pass over cooks their cookies every time. This location is right next to the BART tracks and not too far from their Concord Station. Parking is okay, but can become tight during busier times. I went in to pick up a couple of things-- not my usual shopping. On the way in there was a woman by the door who was completely wigged out on something or other and filthy dirty. Security did approach her but it wasn't very pleasant to enter the store. On the way out AGAIN(!) there was somebody ELSE panhandling and clearly out of it-- right outside the door. This Safeway is remodeling and will soon look great inside but if they don't get the homeless, panhandling, and drug problems under control, people aren't going to voluntarily shop here. This store could literally use an in-store Concord police officer. Perhaps the city should make this location a police substation. I'm serious. I would not even consider going to this location after dark. It's just not safe. Twenty years ago, it was not like this. The deterioration is bad. read more

I just had the best sandwich ever, I'm shocked too, ALEX made my Grecian Delight ( pepper turkey, olive mix, red onions and jalapenos ) I added the jalapenos on sour dough. The other thing that made this the best sandwich ever was that ALEX dealt with the customer in front of me with no attitude at all, he was on his phone the whole time and had to be asked repeatedly about toppings. Sorry not a phone lover when interacting with others, but Alex dealt with that and didn't looked scared when i mention my sandwich which is no longer on the menu. Made it, ate it, fantastic.
