Horrible and rude workers, nobody look happy working there, seems like customers are there to ruin they day or something

I have been a Safeway customer since my parents would take me as a child. Almost 50 years. I've been to many different Safeway's in that time. This one is unique. The staff and customers are super rude. It's surprising. Maybe they all know each other and don't know me, as I usually shop at the Willow Pass Safeway closer to my home. I felt like I was being followed around and having my every move scrutinized for theft. Customers looked at me as if I were a threat. It was bizarre. Something is off with this place. I am friendly, polite, and honest. I'm also extremely well groomed. There's nothing off putting about my appearance. i.e. it's not me, it's you. I would recommend spending your money at a different Safeway instead of this place. One more thing, when I order Safeway delivery, this is the store that fills our orders. They ALWAYS leave items out. Claiming they are out of stock. If you order in the morning they tell you you should order in the afternoon. If you order in the afternoon they tell you you should order in the morning. If you go in to the store, you will find your items are in stock, and the people who fill your order are lazy liars! After many many bad experiences with delivery, we have completely stopped using it. Seeing as it came from this store, it makes perfect sense. This store has some nice things about it, but as I've had so many bad experiences with this place, I'm not going to say what they are! read more

My son gets his groceries delivered for the week every Sunday evening. A couple of weeks ago the delivery did not arrive and worse, he waited with no call to notify him of a problem and there was no answer when he called them. The next day he called again and their excuse was that they had a computer problem. Last night the delivery did not arrive yet again and again there was no notification call and again they did not answer their phone. He called today and was told the driver had a car accident on the way to work last evening. I guess there was no one else able to drive and no one was able to at least place a notification call. Good customer service? I think not. Also, I have personally experienced poor customer service in this Safeway's check out line that others have mentioned here previously. read more

Went there this morning to grab something from the deli area, they didn't barcode it so instead of going to self check out i went to the 15 items or less line to avoid any issues, the light was on but there was no one there, so i asked the bagger standing aT self check out if the 15 items or less was open, and she said yeah one second, called over "Shelly" to her register and Shelly walks over and replies "well she doesn't have any alcohol she could have done self checkout" like i wasn't even standing there, then the checker at self check out jokingly said "oh our customer was super upset" (which i wasn't AT ALL, i gave 0 attitude whatsoever) then winked at me and shelly replies "oh really you were upset" and rolls her eyes. I don't think the self checkout bagger really knew what was going on or that this lady(Shelly) was literally pissed because she had to do HER JOB. Lol terrrrrrible customer service. I will never go to this Safeway again. At the age of 18 in my very first customer service job, i had better customer service than her! Being 60+ i would hope that she would have better manners than that. If you don't like your job, find a new one! read more

I do not like to leave bad reviews because I do not believe in it, but this Safeway on Dekengerer and Clayton Rd is just the worst. The produce is wilted and rotten, the place is dirty and I bought pre packaged sliced cheese and when I got it home it was molding . The worst thing of all is the customer service . I was in a lady named Peggy's line. Not a hello, not a smile, heck not even a grunt..it's sad you spend so much money there you would think I'd at least get a hello . I shop at Safeway all the time it's been quite a bit of money there. I purchased three chickens from the deli that were already cooked for some reason they started putting them in bags upside down so the chicken is soaking in Greece and literally falling apart I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time I purchased the chickens and didn't say anything yesterday I purchased three more chickens and the same thing soaking in Greece upside down falling apart in bags instead of the containers that used to come in I called customer service to make a complaint at the Safeway the lady at customer service transfer me to the deli I could planes in a professional manner I did not feel like I was being taken seriously and they wanted me to bring the chicken back to replace it so I called customer service yet again to ask for a refund of my money back and they could take the chicken they said they will not give me my money back at all and the only thing they would do is give me another nasty chicken nobody wants your chicken it's disgusting and you guys went way downhill and the lady at customer service is very rude and unprofessional and unpaid shan't does not know how to deal with customers at all I am very upset about this situation it's not about the money at this point it's about the situation in the way Safeway employees handled the problem continue to try to contact corporate to make a complaint on the lady for not handling the situation properly as a business. Safeway loses a star because I ordered some cupcakes for my daughter's birthday and when I picked them up, the employee working in the bakery presents them to me, and says, "You didn't want frosting, right?" Of course I wanted frosting!!! Who orders naked cupcakes?? I guess I could see people ordering them without frosting if you were gonna decorate them with kids or something, but I specified vanilla buttercream at the time that I ordered them. It took them only a couple minutes to frost them, but still, I had to wait. Lame. No real point in placing an order in advance. read more

So much to say but none of it good. This is really about the floral department and not the whole store. We have had good service in the store for the most part. We were looking for some information on a corsage and we had 3 days before we needed it. Call the flower department and were told "I don't know if I am taking any other orders." So we asked if she knew when she might know. This silly b@$&5, gave attitude about ordering last minute. 3-days is not last minute. But she had no idea because she never asked and seems like she did not care. This was Tuesday afternoon and we needed pick up on Saturday. Drivers are really nice, however I have not once received a correct order. Missing items (not out of stock items) are the only thing consistent about this service. This was my first time using it because I Messed my knee up and it was hard to walk so I figured I would give them a try. They were over an hour late from my schedule time to receive my groceries I said no exchanges but they exchange for different items I did not receive most of my items totaling up to $58.24 even though I was charge for them I am hoping I can get the money back without any arguing but trust me I will never use them again. One item I ordered one of was charged three times for it but still didn't even get the one item that I wanted. Ok so follow on here called today and spoke with Gary from Company was very apologetic and scheduled an Early morning delivery for all my missing items. read more

I have ordered groceries from Safeway delivery in Walnut Creek several times but tonight is definitely my last. They are constantly late. I pay extra for the shorter delivery window and they are always late. Also, every time they are out of stock on several items. Tip: if you do use this service, check your order thoroughly because it's highly likely they've forgotten something. Customer service is subpar as well. read more

Okay, I usually don't waste my time writing 1 Star reviews, but I wanted to share with you why those Self Service Check stands are going to eventually 86 the Cashiers altogether. I normally use those Checkout machines if I have less than 3 items. Today I bought Letter sized envelopes, Water, and a Chocolate Milk. When I went to the Cashier to be rung up, I realized that I left my Debit card in the car. I accidentally forgot my card because I purchased a Coffee earlier, and left it on the seat. I asked the Cashier kindly if I can get the transaction suspended. She actually rolled her eyes at me, and then told me rudely that I have to go to the Service station. WTF??!! I could not believe how rude and how short she was with me. She did not have a line of more than 2 people. I went to my car and quickly grabbed my debit. The lady at the Service station was friendlier and pulled up transaction and finished the sale. I complained about the lady, and it seemed she was not surprised. I would of been more upset, except for I had both boys with me, and did not want to make a scene. I dislike this Store and won't be back. read more

I called on Friday 2/16/18 to see if I can order a cake for a birthday that same afternoon. I was worried that it would be to late of a notice to order. Since it was a same day order. For months now they have yet to deliver groceries on time or at all. They don't even bother calling or emailing ahead of time to let me know that they will not be delivering food. It's so frustrating as a customer to be paying for a delivery service that can't do the one job they promote they can do. This service is extraordinary bad I would not recommend. read more

At 7:27 not here, just phoned to say he would be here in 20-30 minutes. Already posted online that my food was delivered and my account charged. After going through the check out stand, they accosted me and told me that if I didn't submit to a search, they'd get five employees and physically search me. Worst service ever. Something is always substituted or out of stock - if they show up. It's not uncommon for them to not show up and not call...and then show up hours later to deliver refrigerated foods on your doorstep when you aren't there. To get a refund, you need to sit on hold for at least 40 minutes. No thank you. Never again. I don't know what idiot is running this operation, but they should be fired. read more

What a horrible experience, I have a chronic illnesss and am very tired, I decided to order from Safeway, delivery thime was between 3 to 4 pm not only did they not deliver, they charged my card and took the money. Decided to try the home delivery for the first time before reading the yelp reviews, really wish I would have checked with yelp first! Placed my order and requested a 7-8pm delivery frame. Around 530pm received confirmation of my order and delivery time, alright so far so good. Started prepping my dinner at 7pm...delivery is on its way so when it arrives all I have to do is add remaining ingredients. When 8pm came followed by 815pm...let me turn the pot off and call customer service for status. After 25 minutes on hold an associate answers. I explained the situation in which he chuckles lightly and after checking his log tells me the driver should have been there at 745pm...'Did he call?' No. 'He should have called...' He goes on to say he was going to call him it see if they were in route. After placing me on a 3 minute hold, he returned from his alleged call only to say: He didn't answer but he's driving so he can't. Oh no wait, he's radio isn't working. That's why he couldn't call you to give you status(full chuckle). Long story short...delivery never came. Now I have to call in the morning, sit on hold I'm sure again for 30 minutes to cancel, then call my bank to make sure all charges are reversed. How do you charge someone before even delivering the product???? Will not be using a second time and will share my experience with others. Safeway...just cancel this service. I was given a delivery window of 5-6 PM. At 630 I called the customer service number to see how much later the driver would be. After being on hold for 15:50, I finally got through to a rep. She informed me that "it looks like the driver is delayed until 6:49." She then said she would try to contact the driver to see if that would be accurate. We were disconnected. She did not call back, nor did I hear from the driver. After a few minutes, I called the customer service number again.... was on hold for 16:42 the second time around (at this point the delivery was over an hour late)! The person I spoke to said their system was down.... then it miraculously came back up. Then she told me, "your projected delivery time is 7:10." I asked if she could contact the driver to be sure he would be here at that time. After being on hold for a hot minute, she came back on and said she couldn't get through. Then she said " You're projected delivery time is 7:15." Wait, what? The driver finally showed up at 7:30..... read more

I used the delivery service the first time with free delivery, bottled water and toilet paper. Everything arrived except they don't have nectarines that I ordered so I won't get charged for it. The delivery guy is excellent, set everything on the counter for me to check off. Most what I ordered are stables except Almond milk (make sure you check the size), vegetables, red onion, grape tomatoes and blue berries. They showed up on time. The price is the same as the store and you get the same discount from your club membership. This saves me 1-2 hours total! Will definitely order from them again. read more

Don't even want to give them one star. THE WORST!!! I set up a delivery using their one hour window and they were a no show. Sat on the customer service line for at least 30 min listening to their hold music and finally got someone who had absolutely no ability to tell me if my delivery was on a truck AND no ability to call the driver. I rescheduled for the next night and it was exactly the same. Waited 2 hours for delivery, sat on hold for 30 min and got no answer as to where my order was or if it would ever be delivered!!! They need to look up the definition of customer service just to refresh their memory. NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I WASTE MY TIME WAITING FOR A SAFEWAY DELIVERY!! ZERO STARS. Im am so upset with this company. Long story short I had an order that was going to be delayed a couple of hours -not a big deal. Turns out the order never shows up, driver I was in contact with completely ghosted me. Call customer support next day. Says they'd give me $20 on my account and my order will be delivered next day (Monday). Monday goes by and still nothing. On hold for an hour only to be told it would not be showing up today due to a glitch... WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING ME. I ask for a refund which the woman complies with but when I asked to be emailed a confirmation of the refund she rudely said "NO, we don't do that" . I asked how will I know the refund is actually going through she said "Check your bank statements". She also said it would take 3-5 business days for the refund to go through and here we are more than a week later and NOTHING! So... I have no groceries and they still have my money. THIS IS STEALING. I will be going to the bank to dispute my charge. read more

Safeway delivery is horrible. Late, overcharges, wrong items, frozen food defrosted, bad customer service, unintelligible charge record. (The delivery people are generally nice.) I still order occasionally out of desperation, as I'm sometimes housebound with medical issues, but it's a real crapshoot! read more

Been living in Clayton and shop here constantly. I left my wallet in the shopping cart and when I got home I received a call from Safeway/Wells to let me know that I left my wallet. They got my phone number from the in store Wells Fargo. I had a Wells ATM card and they looked it up so that they could inform me my wallet was left behind. Awesome customer service if you ask me. Only complaint is not about the store but the parking lot is too small and usually crowded. I go in the middle of the day to avoid this problem. read more

Safeway partners with INSTACART, according to INSTACART. This was my first use of INSTACART. They do not disclose that the prices on their website bear a passing relationship to the store price at SAFEWAY. So, in addition to their fees, their mark up is approximately 20% of the store price of the groceries. So if you want to pay about 30% more for your groceries, use them. This is not exactly pizza delivery. It took a half hour on the phone to squeeze the reality out of them. They kept telling me the paper receipt from SAFEWAY was wrong, but eventually, they ponied up the indelible truth. I would not mind paying more, once in a while, but I like to know what I am getting for my money. SAFEWAY gives them access to a website, so there is a co-adventure here. BUYER BEWARE!!!! I wish I had read the other reviews before I used SAFEWAY delivery via Instacart. read more

We placed an order for groceries from Safeway from Instacart. We paid $5.88 extra to have it delivered in 1 hour, plus their service fee, tip for the driver. They were a 45 minutes late and they still charged us the one hour fee. They were suppose to give us a receipt, needless to say it was in the bag. The driver was rude. There were several other thing wrong, and when we asked to speak to a manager we were refused. Top it off the driver rang out door bell and put the groceries on the porch and ran away before we could talk to him. We specifically asked to talk to him. We will never use them or recommend them again. In fact my going to contest the charge for the order until they call us. read more

Not real happy with this store. First of all, parking is a pain. The lot is way too small for the amount of stores that it services. This morning as I was checking out, the cashier rang up an item three times. When I asked about it, she replied in a hostile tone, "Did you not see the negative signs?" No I didn't, so that is why I asked. The girl bagging the groceries was very nice and I felt bad about being short with her since I was quite pissed with the cashier. Left with a not so good feeling. Oh, and I just want to mention the fact that they were out of most of the weekend specials. Not acceptable since I was there about 10 am...prime shopping time. read more
