As many of the reviews here have noted, Safeway delivery is bad. Really bad. The 8am to 10am window has gone by and attempts to email results in a BOT reply to call customer service. A call to customer service resulted in a 45 minute hold and still no human. Do yourself a favor and just go to the store or order from Amazon, Costco or Google Express where those companies actually provide sufficient resources for an operational delivery service. I'm writing this review because after shopping here for 2 years, I think it's time I voiced my opinion. As it turned out, I'm not the only that feels this. Others have voiced their concerns as well. As for me, there are a certain 2 employees or cashiers that always made me feel unwelcome whenever I shop there and they always work at the self checkout. They either have the attitude of annoyance or the attitude of I don't care. I still can't figure it out. One of the employee seems to think that she's all that when she's not. The other employee just have that abrupt attitude of I know it all. At times, these 2 employees made me feel like I'm being racially profiled and it's only these 2 employees. It doesn't matter what I needed help with but they always give me that attitude. Whether I'm asking help with the self checkout or getting a rain check or one time I had to return an item that I recently bought. They never smile or greet the customers. I went to the store a week ago to buy this product and when I got home, I found out that the product I just bought was expired by almost 2 years. I went in to the store a few weeks ago (I try to only shop once a week) to let them know and the same employee I mentioned above gave me the attitude like I'm trying to cheat them. I told them I bought these and they were all the way in the back so I don't know if another customer secretly exchange the expired product or the product got left behind and no one notices it when restocking it. But the attitude from this employee is so negative. She told her manager and the manager also give me the same attitude. So I'm like I don't need this. I should have just bought another one and suck up the $8 bucks but to me, it's about the principal. I should have listen to my husband. He told me that they will behave this way. He told me that they would think it's me when it's not. So I just bought another package and suck it up. I rather lose the $8 instead of getting the attitude and the look that I got. Another example is when I asked their help with the self checkout, it's like they made me feel that I'm stupid for not being able to operate the self checkout because an item wouldn't scan their label or that I'm a burden. Whatever it is... there's that attitude. I understand working at a grocery store is tiring. I been there. I worked at a grocery store too when I was in my early twenties. But still.., it's not an excuse. Luckily it's not everyone that has this attitude. I like everyone else that work here especially the manager at the flower section. That flower manager always been nice, helpful and friendly. You can tell she really enjoys what she does. I was only planning to buy 2 calla lilies plants for Easter but because of her helpfulness and our pleasant conversation, I ended up buying 3 additional calla lilies, 2 cute outdoor figurines and 3 additional flower vases. read more

Worst customer service. Second time in a row where they don't show up and no call. I'm on hold for 40 minutes waiting for customer service and then at 9 o'clock my call gets dropped. Only Reason I was trying them again because I was given a credit for my inconvenience. The last time I had to call twice to get my refund for the purchase that was never delivered. read more

So I call customer service, and after a 30 minute wait, I get a "customer service rep" who proceeds to talk over me as I explain that I needed these things tonight. He then proceeds to interrupt, repeatedly, telling me how it wasnt a total failure because SOME of the stuff came in. When I say I understand that these things are marked up because they are delivery items, he says "I've told you what youre options are, pick one". Well my option is to NEVER use Safeway again, be it in store or delivery, because they don't give a crap at all. I'll drive the extra couple miles to go to Lucky's or Trader Joe's. read more

3/16/23 shopped at the Clayton Rd. Safeway. This was the worst service I have had at a Safeway. During the visit I was reaching for a can of beans on sale on the top shelf, stacked in 2s. I am short and it is a reach, in the process the can on top ended up falling and hitting me on the left side of the face. I saw an employee in produce and asked her who I could talk to and told her of the incident and it really hurt. I wanted to make a suggestion that it is dangerous to stack cans in 2s on the top shelf especially if you are short. She asked if I was okay and offered Advil(?) for the headache. She recommended going to the front and ask to speak to Laura or Anthony (Asst. Mgrs.?). The guy at checkout suggested to talk to the people at guest services. There was a blonde woman in a white shirt that asked if I had a question and told her about the incident. She called for Anthony and I retold the incident. I asked that if it was okay that if my head continued to hurt, I would come back and make a report, the reply was "yeah" and then turned and walked away. Aside from the employee in produce, NOT ONCE was I asked if I was okay, NOT ONCE did they ask my name or information, NOT ONCE did they ask if there was anything they could do or if I wanted to complete a report. during this pandemic I've had both bad and good experiences with Safeway. today I walked in and started looking for hand sanitizeR. They are usually by the door. I looked on the application table. None. People are touching applications to apply for jobs. by the door? None. By the customer service counter? Nothing. by the florist? None. There was a florist there who was kind enough to give me some. is this a sign that all customers do not need to come in with germ free hands? I thought the Delta variant is highly contagious and we still need to continue with all necessary precautions. Where do I start? Its 8pm and no groceries. They were supposed to be here 5-6pm . A Lady calls at 6:05 as im calling the support number and tries to talk me into rescheduling.. I tried doing Safeway delivery from the Shoreline Alameda location. The driver came at 7PM when the scheduled window was between 5 and 6. I ordered 15 things, the driver showed up with three, one of which was the ice cream that was liquid at this point. He told me to call the customer support number. They did refund the order but I waited on hold for half an hour to do so. If you don't have a car it is cheaper and faster to ride share to the grocery store and wait in Safeway's long checkout lines than it is to order delivery. Some items offered under J4U coupons are not offered on the web site All too frequently, items are left off the order and indicated out of stock, and the item is in fact in stock, either the grocery picker didn't find it or didn't bother. Today I was racially profiled and accused of stealing multiple groceries when I've never stolen in my life. A Safeway employee, came outside and took pictures of my car without saying a word to me, and I returned inside the store to address why she did so. The manager made her delete the photo. All of the employees were having a morning meeting while she's accusing me of doing these things, seriously??? Made an online order for corned beef, cottage cheese and wine. Next day, day of the delivery, in an email they notified me that they were out of stock for the corned beef. When the order arrived later in the day - now there was no wine and the delivery person said it was out of stock, too. I contacted Safeway Chat and I was told that the wine was not out of stock because I hadn't been given a credit - it just went on the wrong truck. I agreed to reschedule the wine for delivery the next day in a two hour window. I came away from this experience spending time waiting for the delivery, only to be told that the beef and the wine were never to where to be found. Your time waiting can add up, but Safeway doesn't seem to care. At this rate, I know it will be a long time before I use the online service again. read more

Yesterday I placed an online order and was not notified of any problems until I called the store directly an hour after my order was due. I was told you didn't have enough employees, the girl who called was off in a half hour and I wasn't getting my order. Today I placed another order, to be delivered between 5 and 6. At 6, I got the same call. Too many orders. I'm on the cancel list, I won't be getting my order. How am I supposed to ever shop at safeway again? Luckys, Foodmax, Trader Joe's, whole foods... none of them have these issues. This service totally sucks! I ordered my groceries to be delivered between 8-9pm on Tuesday evening. They never came or called. I phoned them at 8am the next morning, rude lady said "too bad", I asked to speak to her supervisor who assured me the groceries would be delivered Wednesday between 12-2. They never came then either! They finally called at 2 and said they couldn't do it at all that day. I asked for my money back and was informed it would take 7-10 days for refund. That's my grocery money for the week! So now I'm waiting another day for my food. At this point I'd drive down to the store and get my own groceries, but I'm handicapped and cannot. This is for online order and Pickup experience and I would give -10 stars if I can. Don't use their online order service...their system will still take your order even they do not have the item in stock. Here is the story...I ordered something online last night and selected the pick up time for this morning. I checked my email and phone to make sure there is no problem for my order before I leave my house to pickup, and no email and call. I drove to Safeway and took some time to find the designated parking for pick up and there were 3 out of 4 parking spots were occupied, but surprisingly no one were inside the vehicle (obviously they just parked there for convenience to shop inside the store) I parked and call the phone per email instruction, and the guy said the item I ordered is not in stock, and I asked why I did not receive a phone call or email? He doesn't know and he gave the phone to the lady. Instead to apologize, the lady said they don't have the item in stock and I should call to check if they have it in stock. Really?? When do we need to call and check if the item is in stock when order something online? Your system should tell me you do not have the item in stock and don't let me completed the order. Pathic service. I am handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. Only my first order went without a problem. Since then, every order, has been missing items. Now they are charging for items I didn't order but where still charged for, and never received. They use the generic " grocery " to describe the item, so I don't know what it is. Older people need to be told of this practice. I assume most would not check their receipt or credit card statement. In addition the drivers take off before I can check my delivery. I used to have to sign for the delivery, but no longer. They just run off. Finally, I use the 12 to 4 delivery window. I have, yet, to receive my delivery before 4. The last few times where 4:30, 4:50, 5:15 and 6:30. YES 6:30. No heads up, no reason given. I'm going to try one of the many other delivery services offered. None could be this bad. Absolute disaster. Zero reliability, and the service people are idiots. I submitted my order days in advance and received a confirmation email. I had a tight deadline with my job for which I was working over the weekend, late nights, etc. and had absolutely no time to spare going to the store. When the order delivery window arrived, I called to confirm that it was en route when it was still early enough for me to get to the store and still get to bed at a reasonable hour in advance of my early morning. The operator told me my groceries should be here any minute. The groceries never arrived. I called again after the order was officially late, and the second person I spoke with said that due to some kind of technical glitch my order was never processed. Despite the confirmation number, confirmation email that I received, etc. Not only was it late, but it would never arrive. Not even the next day, since the unprocessed order would simply disappear midnight. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Not a bad location, but I'm leaving this review in the hopes that management reads these and responds. Why don't you carry Freshpet refrigerated dog food? Our dogs are old and that's all they can eat; it flies off of the shelves at the smaller location 2 miles down the road on the same street. This is the main reason I avoid your store. read more

Everything you'd expect from a typical Safeway. You've got the fresh donuts, freshly cut flowers, produce and nice stock of beverages. I usually come to this Safeway for chicken and artisan sandwiches. They make them better than most other Safeway's I've experienced. Very nice staff throughout. Butchers are always helpful also. This Safeway is at a great location at the intersection of Treat blvd and Clayton Valley. Convenient spot if you're passing by. read more

SANTA ROSA, CA - First, as of right now my delivery is over 1 hour 30 minutes past the late time and I never even got a call saying they were going to be late. Called customer service with a 30 min. wait to get through and they do not know when he will be here...Last delivery they forgot $50 in my food. Then, it was another 30 minute call to customer service to get a refund. They always give me old fruit and veg. Have been late most of the time, but never this late and no call. Super bowl Sunday I was at this store with a friend. There was an angry looking man blocking the check out line so we asked him if he was waiting - no answer - my friends starts to walk around him and he kicks her! We reported immediately to one of employees and he asked us well do you want to tell the manager. Yes!! They didn't confront the man and he was able to walk out the of the store. Great job. Yesterday I was in 15 items or less and the cashier didn't offer to bag my groceries althoug she did want to know if I wanted to buy a bag. From C to D. Safeway has always had some problems with delivery since I've used them. However, lately things have deteriorated. Positives: 1) Delivering goods where no judgment is needed and shelf dates are non-applicable. E.g., water, canned food, frozen food, drinks. 2) Drivers do their best to salvage bad situations, such as when the store does not process order, etc. Drivers are almost always friendly. 3) Customer service agents who do their best to help out. On at least 40% of orders I've made, I ended up having to call them. They are pleasant, and want to assist. 4) They will refund without fuss items they've made mistakes on. Again, good customer service. Where they flounder: 1) Not showing up on time, and not providing a warning until the time window has elapsed. This has happened when they had too few drivers, when the store failed to run the credit card, and when they had IT failures. 2) Delivering food with expired, or near expired shelf dates -- this happens on about 50% of orders. It was recommended to me a couple of years ago that I ought to put a note into the web order asking specifically for long sell-by dates. It made no difference -- for example, I recently got milk with no sell by date on it, despite note. I've been told the pickers don't have time to read notes. 3) Bad produce. I've ordered honey crisp apples from them a few times. At least 30% of the apples over 3 orders were bad when you cut into them -- brown mush (within 3 days of delivery). Just one example. 4) Picking wrong types or amounts of items. Recently ordered 3 vegetables for 2.85 total. I received 4+ lbs. of those vegetables and was charged $16. Same thing happened a couple months ago. Conclusion: Is it worth it? It begs the question, what is the service for. For me, its main attraction is freeing up time. It obviates the need to travel to the grocery store. However, when I get a delivery from Safeway, I usually must still run down to the local grocery store (not a Safeway) to replace missing or bad items. Additionally, I often also spend at least 20-30 minutes on the phone with customer service -- hold times can be quite long. So, for me, it's not really worth it, except if I just need certain types of food and drink. Now, for those unfortunate souls with physical infirmities, Safeway delivery might be of huge benefit, despite their deficiencies. That said, with new competitors appearing, I'd suggest trying out a few as I plan to. I hope Safeway delivery recalibrates and ends up succeeding. If they do, they'll earn a happy customer and I'll provide a glowing updated review. read more

Boy oh boy! I just want to say that everyone here was right ! What a disaster ! Ordering was easy enough. But without notifying me they rescheduled the delivery by an hour but that was only the beginning. After 2 hours went by and the delivery appt was missed I called their customer service. I waited 30 minutes to speak to some one . They tried to contact the driver but were unable to. They said they would send a message to the manager and give us an update . Well never heard back after 2 hours. So now the delivery was 4 hours late and I started wonder about the frozen items . I decided that this was not going anywhere and after spending another 30 minutes in hold I cancelled the order . Now let's see if I have a hassle getting a refund. They said 5-7 days . Overall I expected better, this is Safeway a staple of groceries. This Safeway is waaay nicer than my local Martinez Safeway. The lay out is new and updated and the floral department is to die for. I was looking for goodies to decorate my table at a local trade show I was attending that night. I was able to get some really nice flowers at a great price. Then I got a really cute gift basket with bath accessories to give away as a raffle prize. All of which were very reasonable priced. Since my flowers were oddly shaped the woman in the floral department helped me carry them out. Now that is great customer service. Im not near this location often but I would probably make this a regular grocery store stop if I lived near here. Very nice. read more

I'd never thought I'd order groceries on line but after babysitting and having to rest afterwards, convinced me to give it a try. Safeway.com, Delivery Service is very easy to use, the items and categories are all listed "by aisle" and there is most everything. I ordered 24 items including Aidell sausages, cheese, half and half, potato chips, canned soup, sour cream, ice cream, frozen Nancy's quiches, fresh-baked bread, cage-free eggs, etc. and everything arrived at the time of my choosing and the frozen items were frozen. I did not order fresh fruit or vegetables because I like to select those on my own. You can have things delivered the same day if you order by 8:30 a.m. Otherwise, they'll arrive the following day and you can pick the period of time (between 12-1 pm for example). The driver, Clemente, was very polite and carried the groceries to my counter. He went through the order and let me know they had everything in my order and there were no substitutions (I had requested no substitutions).I tried to give him a couple of dollars as a tip but he said they were not allowed. The website said that drivers were not supposed to be tipped, but I thought I'd try. Since it was my first order and it was more than a hundred dollars, there was no delivery fee. Usually, it is $10.00 Safeway Delivery is a great service to have available. In my case, I was just tired, but there are many people who have difficulty getting out of their homes, or ill, or they are working all hours of the day. All in all, I am very happy with the service, the ease of ordering and will use them again. read more

This is the worst Safeway ever. The cashier that "helped" me last night was rude and completely ignored me. She was very busy talking to another employee and never even acknowledge I was there. She literally had her back to me for a few minutes as I waited for her to turn around and ring me up -- once she finally turned around she continued her conversation with the other employee, stopping every few minutes to further discuss whatever was so important. It's frustrating when you go into a store to shop and the employees have such an obvious disregard for their job. I don't expect anything crazy - it would just be nice to not feel like I am interrupting them as I spend hundreds of dollars ! This will be the LAST place I go for anything --- and watch the produce department ... I got my fresh fruit home and when I cut open my watermelon it had obviously been FROZEN and was not fit for consumption. A waste of time and money down the drain. Safeway better figure it out --- a simple "hello" and minimal focus would be a good start. read more
