I like this location, it's close to the highway, plenty of parking and is usually stocked with their advertised items for that week. Most cashiers and the customer service counter are polite and I never experienced a problem . Had a horrible experience with the florist that worked today, April 21. We stopped by here on the way to visit my father at the VA Cemetery; he passed away recently. What a mistake that turned out to be. I drove my mother two hrs to visit him. I usually buy my flowers in Davis at Safeway since I live there, although it does depend on whose arranging, but their usually decent and never had a problem with any staff member following my instructions. I came in picked out some Lilies, told the lady, "I wanted to add baby's breath and a few fern stems to make it more full, I would like it wrapped with the bottom open, since we were headed to the cemetery, and I needed it cut about to the rubber band that was already on the Lilies." I thought it was pretty straight forward, but apparently not. The florist grabs some fern and baby's breath from the back, then gets out a cemetery cup holder. I asked her before she cut what exactly she was doing because I don't want them that short...she stated, 'I'm using it as a guide to arrange it.' I told her I wanted it up to the rubber band and she ignored that cutting it super short. Then she kept adding more fern and I told her that is enough, so she added a few more fern not listening to what I said. I then asked her "how are you going to wrap it with it that short." She states, 'Oh you want it wrapped'. I told her yes with the bottom open and she wraps a rubber band around it and goes to the bucket near the Lilies and grabs a plastic bag. I ask, "What are you doing," and repeat for a third time now that "I wanted it wrapped with the bottom open" then she stated, 'Well I misunderstood, but that isn't the way we do it' I told her, "if you don't want to do it then don't, but every Safeway Ive been too always does it that way, and I informed you several times I wanted it wrapped." Then she said, 'I can wrap it, but we just don't usually do it that way.' It was like she didn't want to do it. My Mom was frustrated and I was already mad, but kept my composure, and stayed patient, then she still wasn't wrapping it, and cut it even shorter like she was doing it on purpose. The florist heard me say we should have just got the flowers in Davis, then walked away like she was angry, and brought out more fern but still didn't wrap it. When there was already a whole bush of fern out there. At this time some people were patiently waiting behind us, but when we first got there nobody was there so it's not like I was rushing her at all. I told my Mom let's go because she isn't listening to anything, and just kept giving us more attitude. The other customers left as well. We ended up buying overpriced flowers at a farm stand near the cemetery. She definitely ruined the day and our visit with my father. My mother was crying, not only because of my father, but that it was to be a somber day due to the visit already, and we just didn't need the extra drama. The attitude of the florist was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I wasn't even rude at all until the end, and was just explaining what I wanted. The florist should have clarified instead of just blatantly ignoring my repeated requests. My mother told me to let it go, but I ended up calling the manager, and spoke with Sophia. Sophia apologized, was compassionate and professional addressing our concerns without making any excuses for the florist. She stated she wanted to make it right and at our convenience we should come in to pick up a gift card. I told her it wasn't necessary she could just talk to her but she insisted. When I arrived and told a cashier my name she and the male staff member that rang up the gift card at customer service also apologized. They both showed empathy and compassion during a very hard year in our life and that definitely means more than a gift card. Unfortunately I had to take off a few stars because I wouldn't have returned to make a second trip if the florist was just a decent human being. I didn't expect stellar customer service but even mediocre would have done today; just following my instructions would have sufficed. I am a veteran and a nurse myself, so I definitely deal with patient satisfaction and customer service, but I never have treated anyone the way she treated us today. Although I do not know if I will return, my suggestion for the future is that the florist today not be allowed to work directly with customers. Especially until she is properly trained, but sometimes you cannot teach people how to treat others. Unfortunately one sour person can ruin somebody's whole experience especially since it was my first at this Safeway. **To Sophia and the two team members thank you for your assistance with this matter, the gift card, and your kind sentiments toward this situation it was all greatly appreciated. read more

This is literally the worst managed Safeway I've ever seen. I've lived in 5 states and every time Safeway has been my "go to" for quick grocery runs. Not here. It's 11 am on a Saturday and I'm standing in a line 7 people long with 1 register open. It's been like this nearly every time I've tried to come over the last year... additionally their bakery is the worst I've seen and if you want to find an employee to help you, you're out of luck. I walked end to end in this store before finally asking someone at the deli. In a world full of grocery and convenience stores, you should pick any but this one. read more

There is no sense of urgency in this place. The workers although extremely nice, need to pick up the pace when bagging and scanning at checkout. I spend more time in the checkout line than I do shopping. Whenever I need some assistance I rarely ever see an employee on the floor. I usually see vendors more than anything. The lines here are atrocious!!! All of there signs say "3 is a crowd" and they will open another like when it exceeds that. Shoppers of this market know that that is obviously not the case. The lines are always down the middle of the food aisles and I shop at the least busiest times/days. Either get more employees or train them better. This is why self checkouts are going to take over!! Occasionally I need a fried chicken fix and use Safeway deli as it is close by,most of time it is fine, nothing to get excited about, but ok. However there are times it is so salty i have had to throw it away. With quite a few people on salt restricted diets I am hoping they will tone down the salt. read more

As there are very few grocery stores in Dixon, I wish I could rate this higher. Low inventory and bad customer service on multiple occasions won't let me. Don't get me wrong, there have been a handful of employees that are extremely helpful. Recently, my boyfriend and I were trying to cash a check as we recently moved and our bank isn't in this area. It was just after 9am and no one was at customer service. My boyfriend checked in with a staff, Sharon, to ask if someone could help. He was told the customer service staff was at lunch and would be an hour. My boyfriend asked if anyone else would help and was told no. After having also tried to the night before with no luck, he was a bit frustrated. As he was leaving Sharon rifle stated to her coworker this is why we should use a bank. My boyfriend asked to speak with a manager. Sharon was reluctant but finally went to look for the manager. We were told the manager was on a meeting call and could not assist. We were then given an 800 number to call and no way to reach the manager directly. It is very unprofessional for staff to make fun of customers that need to use a service that their business offers. There are many reason why going to a bank might not be possible and for her to be so judge mental of customers is uncalled for. read more

Today was the last straw for me with delivery service from Dixon Safeway. More than half of my delivery was missing. There is some issue every time i get a delivery. I have mobility issues right now, so I rely heavily on the delivery service. It is not helpful when i have to contact customer service after nearly every delivery. I'm done with Safeway. Safeway in Dixon is the store where I get most of my groceries. Convenient to my home, competitive prices, friendly, helpful staff and a tidy/clean store. Today I was seeking groceries for our upcoming camping trip. Matt in the meat department was instrumental in helping me select pork chops and a top sirloin steak. I am sure he was busy, but he didn't rush and was patient and very friendly to me. After picking out a nice steak, Matt pointed out that the pork loin was at a great sale for $1.49 a pound. What a deal since I was comparing the pork chops in the meat case that were on sale for $4.99 a pound. We found a nice pork loin and he cut off and seasoned 2 beautiful pork chops. Great deal!!! If you're in any kind of a hurry...GO ELSEWHERE! I've been to this store several times in the last few months, and each time the lines at checkout have been very, very, long! As Candice mentioned, that even goes for the EXPRESS (yeah, right) Line. The last time I went, I asked the checker what was going on (they only had 2 checkers working and each line was at least 10 people long), and she said someone called in sick...I asked to speak with the manager, and she says that that's the person that called in sick! Ridiculous! If this was a "one-off" issue, I wouldn't be writing this review, but this seems to be the norm at this store. Booo Safeway! Hire some people or manage this store better! read more

This Safeway is great. Staff is super friendly and always helpful. The other day I was looking at cookies in the bakery to bring to a party and couldn't decide on one. I asked a worker his opinion and he actually went to the back, opened a box of the cookies, and let me try one! So nice. Use your Safeway card at the station and save a few cents on gas. Also be sure to go online and upload coupons directly on your card! We save quite a bit of money but regularly shopping here. Downside-wouldn't recommend eating the sushi in the deli. About as expensive as you would get in an actual restaurant, and quality is terrible. But I guess you shouldn't expect much from sushi in the middle of a grocery store. read more

I usually don't shop at Safeway because the prices are higher then other stores but my house is 2 mins away so if I need something real quick I will go there. Bakery items are always fresh. $5 Friday deals are pretty good. Has Wells Fargo bank branch inside so that's convenient for me. The gas station is convenient. Usually cheaper then Valero across the street. They used to give a couple cents off per gallon when you used your club card but they stopped doing that. Now when you spend $100 you get $.10 off per gallon on your next fill up. What I don't like is the checkout lines. They always only have 1 or 2 lanes open even with a line. read more

April 10 UPDATE: Out of desperation I stopped by Safeway on my way home, 4pm. I got the few things I needed and was again DISAPPOINTED AND PISSED, that there were only two checkers. The first line had nine, yes 9, people in line. The second line had eight, yes 8. REALLY? After spending 19 minutes in line I was approached by people outside to buy stuff. I'M DONE. One of the only safeways out there that has a gas station. The review though is not based on the gas station but the supermarket itself. This Safeway is a local treasure in my opinion. It's open conveniently 24 hours a day. So if you're in the mood to cook some steaks in the middle of the night then this place is for you. My husband bought chicken on 10/12/13 from Dixon Safeway and it's part of the salmonella lots (P6137, P6137A or P7632). Apparently Safeway isn't going to pull the chicken. They just posted the sign they were given. But they WILL refund our money! Why don't they just save the step (and potential poisoning of their customers) by removing the chicken? I just don't understand people. They also said to cook it until it's 160 degrees but since we were planning to bread it, we're not going to take a chance some part isn't cooked sufficiently. Went to safeway bakery Monday to order my birthday cake for Tuesday. Picked out exactly what I wanted, the color, kind of cake, frosting, filling and decorations. I was so excited because I thought it was gonna be super cute. My wife goes and picks it up on Tuesday, brings it home and I was super disappointed. Not one thing that I wanted was done. They put sugar crystals all over it. Which I did not want. It was white cake and I asked for marble. The color I wanted was not on there at all. The filling was buttercream frosting and very few strawberries, I had just wanted strawberries. To say the least I was very disappointed and will never order a cake from there again. read more

I went to Safeway this evening to pick- up a couple of items, but when I tried to use my atm it didn't work? I noticed after a few tries about the fourth , I asked the cashier what should I do? I thought to myself isn't this a chip - reading ATM? and why does the buttons not work . I also noticed the buttons where very worn and looked old, and to my surprise the lady put a cashier paper- roll under the machine .Wow that worked fourth try. Eeek! No wrapping paper! So after hauling 75 mph on 80 trying to get to the Christmas Eve shindig, I swerved off the freeway to hit the Safeway here in search of wrapping paper, tape, and scissors. That's correct. I had misjudged my conscience into thinking that I actually had leftover paper from last year and when I realized I did not, leaving at 2:00 pm on the day before Xmas was a mistake. That's right. I was stuck in traffic for a good 3 1/2 hours. Since I knew there was a Safeway off the 80, I stopped and dashed out into the pouring rain. This Safeway seems to have gone through a remodel because it resembled many of the locations in Sacramento as well as the Bay Area. Clean, well lit, new shelving, and everything was in order. That is, until I reached the wrapping bin and saw that other than the generic paper that I would never buy (an insult to my usual tastes) I settled on a set that included four rolls of blue/silver themed wrapping paper complete with 8 foil bows. I was screwed in the behind for this emergency purchase to the song of $9.99. In addition, I purchased a four pack of Diet Red Bull, because I had been up until 3:00 with my friend Rolf running around the Castro, and tape and scissors (which are Titanium and came nicely priced at $12.99). What can we say. Beggars can't be choosers and when one is tight on time, I can't be that picky. There was a Starbuck's in this Safeway, but due to time, I had to avoid it. I was in line for the 15 items or less counter and the cashier looked at me while ringing the items. "Aren't you a little late in wrapping presents?" My thoughts exactly as I ran out of the store and then my little Made in Japan car merged with the bunch of other holiday revelers bustling towards their destinations on a rather wet Christmas Eve. I stop by the deli section of Safeway in Dixon once in a while whenever I feel like getting my Starbuck's fix and grabbing a sandwich. Their sandwiches are pretty good (homemade like) but the workers are really slow. Even when it is just myself ordering it takes a while to get my sandwich. I alway get the same younger worker and she seems like she's always in a bad mood, no personality and never smiles...the older lady seems much nicer but I haven't gotten her to help me yet. If I didn't like their sandwiches so much I probably wouldn't even stop by the deli section here. read more

Seems to always have a long wait to checkout.Yes, its a small Safeway,but geez you think they would have more cashiers on hand, since there is a demand of service which is the reason for the long lines. The checkers and store staff are good but the lines in this store are like none I've seen elsewhere. Often only 2 checkers at 5p, when everybody is shopping after work. I've never shopped anywhere were the customer service was so good. The employees are always helpful, especially the butchers. I've had cashier suggest something to me that is similar, yet cheaper than what I am buying. If you can't find something they will help you, prices are okay, quality of food is great, but it's really the people that work there that keep me and my husband coming back. read more

The employees here are amazing. They are so helpful and truly try to do the best they can considering there's not enough of them. However, I really don't like going to this store, but there are limited options in Dixon. The lines at the store are always packed and there's hardly ever any one to bag groceries. I bag my own groceries 95% of the time; I used to get annoyed about this, but now I just go in expecting it. With hardly any registers open and no one to bag groceries it takes longer to get through the checkout line than to pick out a weeks worth of groceries. Don't go in here if you're in a rush. read more
