I've been going here for years and I've had such terrible customer service. I've missed my window to to my pick up order but I tried calling. I was on hold for over half an hour and gave up. I came in the next day but my order was already put back. I come to this location at least once a week to grab lunch from the deli. I always get great customer service and have no complaints about that. But today my lunch was not what I expected it to be. This Safeway is open until super late so that I can go shopping after my shift (I work nights). I really like coming here. Not only this, but ordering from Safeway.com has usually worked in my favor. I ordered some fruit platters for a corporate event, and the woman working for the Safeway.com orders, in this building, was SO attentive and helpful. This is for the bakery dept .. I ordered a birthday cake one week in advance. Asked for certain color, certain decorations and writing in a specific area. Everything they said they could do. I left my phone number and also paid at time of ordering. I thought everything was fine . Nice and easy. Wrong! Day of pickup, I got there at the time I ordered it for and they took forever to find the cake in their freezer. . When they finally found it, they told me it was unfinished..seriously?? Because they couldn't actually do the requested decoration they said they could and they couldn't actually write the name in the location I wanted like they said they could. So instead of calling me to tell me and give me chance to change it to something else, they decided to wait until pickup time. Why even bother taking a phone number then? Then they smell the name wrong and patch it up to where you can tell it was messed up. No apologies, no nothing. Only giving one extra star because the cake tasted good. I had the most uncomfortable experience today at this store. There were quite a few people in line so I decided to go to self check in the self check line there were several people paying for the groceries it was myself and 2 other African American waiting to pay for items the people that were there before us none of them were African American and as soon as we got to the Registers over the intercom They request an employee to come stand in front of the cash registers. This made me feel rather unconfident will and I did adjusted with the store manager can refuse to admit that it was not a good thing that happened but none the less it did shame on you Safeway. read more

This Safeway is no where near my house, but it's close to a very good friend of mine. And whenever I visit her we seem to always come here. I like it because its nice and big and its clean. The atmosphere is busy with customers. They have a big deli with lots of options to choose from. It has a bank right here inside, which is cool. Not something you see in to many stores now. I have never come when and the store is overly busy, but the staff seem to be pretty cool. They are professional and friendly. They are very helpful when needed. The store shelves I notice are always stocked well. Great management! I do have an issue with stores that don't have a lot of people of color. Safeway has changed a lot over the years to me. They have the buy one get one free, but the prices are higher than what I remember. So I don't shop at Safeway like I used too. I only frequent Safeway when I come see my friend, because there isn't one no where near where I live. read more

My husband and I are very upset with this store. Twice now they have over charged us for items. And if we don't either tell them as they ring it up or find it on the receipt before we leave we get screwed. It just happened again today. If you are gonna price something on the shelf, make sure it rings up for that. This really pissed us off and we live too far away to drive back. Not happy at all. Never have I been to a FILTHIER grocery store. 1. Dirty floors walking in 2. Salad bags were expired and the lettuce was obviously BROWN. 3. Meat department smells, and the display cases, shelves need a good cleaning. 4. Bakery department - bagels and donuts left in pieces and OUTSIDE of their bins. 5. The closest grocery store to my home. I make the occasional "shit I forgot something" run here a lot. Of course that one item turns into 10, but that's a common right? Right?! That's what I thought. Decent selection in fresh produce, meat, and seafood. Really helpful butchers and fishmongers. Once, where checking out the sausages (giggity) a butcher gave me two to try out home. I've also gotten small filets to try once as well. Awesome customer service. As for the employees on the floor, they leave much to be desired. Sometimes they're super helpful, other times they massively suck and then all you wanna do is call corporate on them. Good prices on beer, and wine sales can be amazing. read more

I had a horrible experience today at the Elk Grove Laguna location and I am hoping someone can help me. I used the app and used the drive up pick up option for the first time. When I came and picked up my order on my lunch at 3:00 as requested, I called the number and the employee came right out and put everything in my car and I went on my way. When I got home to quickly drop the items off, I realized I was missing a large amount of items from my order (almost half) I called and the same guy that helped me answered the phone and stated he forgot To give me my items out of the refrigerator. He told me i had to come back and pick it up before 8. I told him I had to go back to work and would be there At about 630. He said no problem, as long as it was by 8 for the pick up service and that the store closed at 10. When I came back at 630, With both kids in the car, we parked like before and called and called and called - no answer for 10 minutes. I went inside and was told someone would be right out and to go back to the car. I waited for another 10 minutes and went back inside a second time. This time I stood at the customer service desk for a long period of time until an employee peeked her head in the little office at the CS desk, then "Shirley" came out of the office and told me that "dot com went home" and started walking back toward the office. Then I asked her for my items and explained what happened. She begrudgingly went over to the refrigerators and came back and said there was nothing in my name. I told her the order number and said it had to be there. She went back again and found it. She handed me the items and I left. Upon checking the bags when I got to the car, I realized that there was only one pound of meat instead of 2 and that the cut was completely different. Then, checking my receipt I see that I was charged $25 for a huge box of wine, when I only ordered the small single $5 item (to cook a meal with), but I was charged $8 for one pound of pitiful meat. I can't feed a family of 4 on one pound of thin fatty cross section short ribs. I have no need for all this wine and no meat. So then my husband and I go in and when she sees me walking back in, Shirley intentionally walks away while maintaining eye contact with me in what it appears as an attempt to avoid me. My husband goes over to the self checkout line and asked for a manager and I waited at the customer service counter to wait for someone. Shirley came back over and I asked her if there was a manager on duty and she said "no we don't have a manager right now." I said, there's no manager for the store? She said "well she's at lunch" I asked when she would be back and Shirley said "an hour". I had to repeat that back to her and she said yes that's the only manager and she's gone for an hour. My husband came back over and said the employee at the self checkout said the manager would be down in a second. I said that's funny because Shirley says that there's no manager for an hour. My husband explained the situation to Shirley, again, and she half heartedly apologized. But continued to blame "dot com" and not offer any solution. My husband said if the manager is here in the store, we need to speak with her. Shirley said she would go talk to her and disappeared for another 15 minutes. She came down eventually and said that the manager wasn't really understanding the issue so we could just exchange the meat for what we wanted. At that point we just said screw it, my husband went to grab the meat and I went out to the car because the kids had been in the car now for 30 minutes alone. Just exchanging the meat is not the point. In the end, I want to express what a disappointment the whole experience was. Mistakes happen and this could have been a simple conversation and correction for the right or actually similar items. I wasn't too upset about having to go back to the store, it was just an inconvenience. But, then the way it was handled by Shirley and not handled at all by "Cashmera" is what has me so upset. A simple real apology, some understanding and a solution is all I wanted. I chose the option to order online and pick up so that we didn't have to expose ourselves to the store and all the people in it and to save time and get home to cook. We Also recently lost a family member to this COVID thing and are trying to minimize our risk. Then after working all day I had to spend an hour trying to pick up the rest of my order and get it corrected. And go into the store anyway. Then we didn't get home till almost 8pm and there's no time to cook an actual meal or anything. What a waste. If "dot com" goes home at a specific time, then what is the procedure for pick ups or issues after they leave? Nobody answers the phone or is available to help? We called the pick up number AND the general store number dozens of times and nobody answered either. read more

I frequently shop at this Safeway and have always loved it, I actually pass two other groceries stores from my home just to shop here. Lately, the customer service has not been the same. I started seeing it go down hill in early October when I ordered party platters from the deli. I had ordered the platters a week in advance and arrived to pick them up, only to be to told they didn't have an order for me. The employee that took my order was there and I was sure to remind her of my order and the date and time we discussed. They ended up finding the order on a loose piece of paper and said they would make it now. My order was ready an hour late, with NO apologies given. I've read other reviews and this seems to be a continuous problem, I will definitely be going across the street to Raleys or bel air for future platters. On a different note, where have all the baggers gone?! Since the ban on plastic bags has gone into effect, I've literally bagged my own groceries every visit (which is at least 2x a week). I don't mind bagging my own groceries every now and then, but at least be appreciative when I do and don't get me frowny faces mr and mrs cashier. I'm definitely starting to reconsider shopping here, as the quality of service is rapidly declining. read more

The store/supplies- This store has almost everything that I've ever needed when I came here. I think the only time they were slacking was when I was trying to make jell-o shots! I was actually pretty surprised that they didn't have the stuff to make those (they were missing the plastic cups and tajin - we were attempting to make mexican jell-o shots). The service- Most of the time I've been helped it was a good experience. The only times that I got frustrated were in self-check out. There's almost always something going on in self-check out and I feel like they honestly don't care that much. It's kind of a figure it out yourself type situation every time I've used their self-check out. But other than that, most cashiers do try to ask you how you're doing and be kind when helping. The cleanliness- I would say this safeway is mostly clean but there has been times where they should pick up after customers or organize things a bit better. I can see how things can get misplaced easily but there are people dedicated to doing these jobs so I do expect a little more. The samples- Sometimes there are samples inside the store! I remember one time specifically it was a crab dip and it was so good, I ended up buying it. The salespeople weren't pushy and answered all my questions. It was a really good experience. I wish I saw more samples in safeway, I think that would be very good for their business! Flowers- Random note, but I always love looking at safeways flowers when I come. If I'm buying flowers for an occasion, it's usually from safeway and they last pretty long for flowers if you take care of them! They have a pretty good selection of flowers as well. read more

We do not normally shop at Safeway or Vons. On our latest visit to Elk Grove, we did stop here. The store was clean, staff was helpful, they had what we needed, and we were out of there fast. We could also use our Vons club card to get the special discounts. If they were not so expensive on most of their products, we would patronize Safeway stores more often. read more

Had a horrible experience at the bakery. The bakery sign states open hours as "6am - 8pm". I arrived at 5:50pm, no one insight at the bakery. After waiting 10min I asked another employee for assistance, they over head paged for bakery, still no one came. I called the number to the store from my cellphone spoke to the operator and said I was waiting by the bakery and she also paged for baker assistance. NO ONE CAME. I called AGAIN, finally the person who answered came to the bakery. I came to pick up pre ordered cupcakes... the cupcakes I ordered were completely wrong... I showed this picture from amazon to the bakery employee when I placed my order a week ago and she even complimented on the theme and said I should have just said "Harry Potter theme". As you can see in the photos this is clearly not what I ordered. The manager had the audacity to tell me that I should have specified how I wanted the icing... I'm sorry WTF? So I'm wrong... apparently you have to tell them colored not sprayed... also the manager mentioned that butter cream icing can't be colored and the standard way to do so is to spray color them... umm that's WRONG. read more

I love Safeway! This is my favorite grocery store in California! This location is modeled a little differently than the one I'm use to in midtown but I love all the sales they have going on every time I walk in. I'm able to shop here conveniently and save a little money. My favorite part of the experience is when I scan my Safeway card..lol I'm a dork but I love to see how much money I saved! I love their deli sandwiches, yum. A big plus, there is a starbucks inside this store. Get your caffeine and do some shopping- why yes, don't mind if I do. I don't think they are the cheapest but I don't think they are the most expensive either. Definately, get the safeway card, if you shop here often. Prices are lower if you use your safeway card. I've always had a good experience at this Safeway, going once a week during the morning or afternoon for the past 6 months. Going through the checkstand or self-service checkout has been quick. In terms of deals, the best thing I discovered was the deli section. The $2 breakfast burrito (made to order) accrues towards the buy 7 get 8th free sandwiches. So buying 7 burritos for $14, you can then get a coupon for the 8th free, which I use for one of the nice $6 sandwiches. So then each large burrito was only about $1 at that rate. I had an order of groceries scheduled to be delivered by Safeway to the house between 2 and 3 PM today...and I rushed home from an outing to Lake Solano to make sure I was home by 1:30 PM. I get a call on my cell phone from the driver at 12:57 saying he is at the door and since I'm not home he won't make a delivery today. He blamed the "time change" for his arriving an hour too soon. All of my clocks and watches were set to the proper time LAST NIGHT. Apparently, so were his...but he was too stupid to realize that and tried delivering everything an hour early. I called their customer service department as soon as I got home at 1:20 and they said they couldn't do anything about it... I wasn't home when the driver arrived - even though he arrived too early - so they're not delivering the groceries to me today. Well, they just lost a customer for life... and I am sending a formal complaint to their corporate offices. And you know what the kicker was? At 2:30 pm, I get a notice from my bank letting me know that these people had the gall to charge my credit card for groceries they REFUSED TO DELIVER TO ME! read more

I really like Safeway, but I am very dissatisfied with Instacart for delivery. They do not offer their customers the right to use their Safeway Club cards for their orders to be delivered. Instead, when they checkout, they use an Instacart Safeway Club card, and your discount goes into the company coffers. If I had not had the personal shopper give me my paper receipt, I would never have known this unethical company makes money like that off my delivery orders. Also, when Instacart says the tip goes 100% to the personal shoppers, that is not true. They deduct the amount of the tip from their base pay. So, when you leave a tip online with Instacart, the company gets the money, not the personal shoppers. I give the personal shoppers cash to make sure that they receive the money and are not penalized for my leaving a tip online. So, for this review, Safeway 4 stars. Instacart 1 star. I took one star off Safeway for their high prices on things that I can get at other stores for $1-$2 less, like their Kumato tomatoes. read more

Safeway is my preferred grocery store for my weekly shopping trips. While they may be more expensive than WinCo, I always feel that my produce and meats are fresh; I don't have to worry about consuming them quickly in fear that they may go bad. The staff is always helpful, friendly and attentive and the store clean. I also love how the aisles are fairly wide, unlike the Safeway I frequent in Arden, which makes navigating easy. I love coming here for the rewards. I defiantly get more for my buck here. The staff in the produce section is very helpful and friendly. The store has just been newly remodeled in some sections so things have been rearranged a bit which means I have to relearn where everything is located. That's okay though I enjoy it. As far as grocery stores go, this Safeway (as with most other Safeways) are top notch. - The shelves are usually fully stocked, unless you go during the odd, evening hours where they're refilling the shelves. - The fruits and the vegetables are always fresh and good, unless you go during the odd hours where all the good fruits and veggies have already been taken. - The register lanes are usually short, uness you go during the odd hours when it's payday and everyone is rushing to get their groceries But overall, this store is usually a pleasant experience and usually has everything for all your grocery needs. One thing I'd like to mention is that their staff is top notch and is part of that pleasant experience. They're always really helpful and the staff working the registers always have smiles on their faces and like to joke around with the customers from time to time. I hate to say it, but the -1 star is for their fried chicken/chicken strips at their deli counter. Their fried chicken is as hard as rock, as if the breading they used before frying was some kind of cement mixture. It's worse on their chicken strips where it seems to be 90% breading. read more
