Fudge
Annabelle R.

I couldn't resist checking out the mendocino chocolate company while in downtown fort bragg. Diverse offerings on display including fresh fudge in flavors like rocky road, and individually packed chocolates shaped like cars, whales, and seashells. We got ourselves a customized box, selecting various truffles and chocolates like bonjour mint, pacific fire (cayenne pepper), peanut clusters, lemon chiffon, and the mendocino macho (dark chocolate truffle). Everything was so yummy, quality we could taste. Service was fast and friendly too.

Out of 4 chocolates, I only managed to photograph one before eating them all

Mendocino Chocolate Shop is a cute local chocolate shop in the heart of downtown Fort Bragg. They had free parking right out front for up to three hours, and I wanted to walk around downtown, so I decided to start here. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a young woman. She asked if I'd ever been in before, and gave me a little tour of the shop. On the right side of the store were gifts and boxes of chocolate. The center area was filled with fun shaped chocolate lollipops and desserts, while the left was chocolate truffles. Sound familiar? It was laid out in a very similar fashion to a certain popular chocolate shop that can be found in most malls. That being said, their gifts and creations were very cute and original. My favorite were the whale shaped truffles, which the clerk said are very popular with children. As for the truffles behind the case, the small truffles were about two dollars each, while the large were about three. As a fan of dark chocolate, I loved their selection. It seemed like most of the truffles came in either milk or dark. (Milk chocolate is just dark chocolate that has been ruined by adding too much milk and sugar.) I ordered (all dark) a salt caramel, a spicy cayenne mousse, an orange mousse, and a dark chocolate mousse. This was decidedly better quality chocolate than anything you could find in a box in a drug store. The mousse tasted fresh, as if it had been made within the past few days. They were all pretty good, but not my favorite new chocolate in the world. My favorite flavor was the orange. My least favorite was the cayenne, which tasted like maybe it had been flavored with powder instead of fresh chilis. Overall, I definitely liked Mendocino Chocolate Company better than the local chocolate shop in Folsom, and almost as much as my favorite chocolate shop in the mall, but not as much as my favorite boutique artisan shop in Sacramento. I would probably come back again once in a while if I lived nearby.

The shark pop got cracked on the road, but he was still happy with it

I am a sucker for chocolate, so I couldn't pass up the chance to check this place out. Now I am torn: I am so glad I found it, but now what will I do without it?? I bought the kids a couple of white chocolate pops, my shark obsessed son wanted a shark, and my daughter wanted an alien. Honestly, I only bought them so they would leave me alone with my truffles. But, despite my concerns that they didn't like white chocolate, both kids loved their pops. But the truffles! Wow! I have never tasted anything like these! I bought mostly the fruit ones, since that is my favorite. The chocolate cherry, orange, and raspberry lace. On a whim, I decided to add a piña colada truffle just for fun. I don't typically care for white chocolate , but I was curious. Wow, I wish I had bought more. The filling in these truffles is so light and airy, it feels like it is whipped. The piña colada was incredible, and all of the fruit truffles I bought are amazing. I am obsessed with the texture of these! I don't live locally, but now I will be on a quest to find chocolates like this in other places! Definitely stop in and try these, they are so unique and so delicious!

While we were in the area for a short vacation, we walked this area to stretch our legs between destinations. I saw the sign for chocolate and knew I needed to check it out, so we parked on the street, maneuvered the traffic, and headed in. Once inside, we were hit with a veritable wall of sweet smells. We nosed around the store until we got to the truffle case, where we decided to get a couple pieces to try. The person helping us was not super friendly and didn't help us with some recommendations based on some restrictions we were hoping to abide. We paid for our chocolates which were pricey but we hoped they were worth it, as many good chocolates are. Once to the car, we opened our box and tried the first one. It was terrible! I was sad but undaunted because we had a couple others and chocked it up to a bad pick. Horribly enough, the were all terrible! All the chocolates tasted mildly like each other, and nothing like what they were claimed to be on their descriptions. We were really saddened by this experience, and unfortunately was not the only dismal food experience we had while visiting Mendocino. The best part of our experience here was that they were playing the Backstreet Boys on their sound system, but even their melodious crooning could not rescue this chocolate. Super disappointing, and they all the leftover pieces unfortunately went into the trash after tasting.

Truffles, Truffles, Truffles...hubby asks for em hubby gets em. On our walkabout in historic Fort Bragg we strolled by Mendocino Chocolate Company andd couldn't help himself...I mean ourselves but pop in LOL Inside were handmade signature truffles and originals, fudge and confections...to say he was in chocolate paradise is putting it mildly plus they just happened to have a gold gift box of 12 truffles that you could personally select from their case...he was IN!! Did I mention Yelp check-in scored a bonus truffle ~ WINNING!! The golden truffles box is safely home and being treasured / savored by the hubby chocolate lover. Delicious, decadent and OMChocolatey goodness!! Be sure to grab your favorites too!

The sand dollar chocolates are my favorite, truly the best handmade chocolate! I always stop when in Fort Bragg.

After our lunch we stopped here for some chocolates. We got the sea otter, salted caramel and butterscotch chocolates. Our favorite was the sea otter chocolates which had a perfect blend of nuts, caramel and chocolate.

Question: What is amongst the hidden treasures of #fortbragg California? Answer: The Mendocino Chocolate Company Hours prior to my departure from Fort Bragg to San Francisco, as I walked down Main St., I contemplated: "What gift shall I buy for my host?" Minutes later, through my peripheral vision, I noticed the #Mendocino #Chocolate Factory. Immediately, I stated: "EUREKA! I'll get my host confections. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a most charming "breath of fresh air." The employee of the company spoke to me of their chocolates - with passion. Soon following, she showed me the hand-crafted truffles, salt water taffies, barks, white chocolate flowers & then some ... As she rang up my purchase; I spoke with her fellow employee. Tony: Are the confections made in Fort Bragg / Mendocino? Employee: The kitchen is approximately 2 blocks away! Tony: Is the company family owned? Employee: Yes. Tony: Tell the family they are doing an excellent job! Employee: I'll go tell them right now! [and he exits the room]. CONCLUSION: Bravo! A wonderful experience. A wonderful product.

I haven't had Northcoast Brewing's beer in a while so it was good to get refreshed and reminded of…read moretheir beers again recently. We had two different beers, one was one we had before and another one was one we haven't had before. Both were good and no complaints! The one we did have before was the Brother Thelonious which is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. With this Ale you can detect flavors of maltiness, strong in this aspect too and sweet. The beer is nice and smooth and is dark in hue. The beer we tried for the first time was the Old Rasputin, a Russian Imperial Stout. This stout was much stronger and robust than our first beer but good. I occasionally like a beer with this kind of characteristic. Coffee flavor is a dominant flavor here for sure. The stout has a creamy body and is very dark in color. Very satisfied that I tried it out. And of course where would I be without doing swag acknowledgements. Pretty much as far as t shirts go anything with their signature logo with the whale on it I am partial to, especially when it's on t-shirts so I didn't pass that up.

Unlike most breweries I've been to, North Coast has a separate business for their merchandise and…read moreswag. It's in a different building than both the pub and the main brewery building. The staff seem dedicated to this store. And it's at a different address. So it gets a different review. What they offer here:  -- Clothing, such as T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, hats -- Barware: bottle openers, coozies, mugs, glassware -- Artwork: in the form of posters, plaques and prints Their main offering, however, was North Coast Brewery beer in its various forms: by the case, in bombers, and in six packs (which can be mixed and matched if you like). Beer prices were actually pretty good, which you'd expect, since the bottling plant appears to be across the street. Since North Coast Brewery is one of my favorites, I admit it was hard for me to hold back. In the end I bought a six-pack of Old Stock Ale, a couple of bombers of Old Rasputin (aged in bourbon barrels), one t-shirt, and one beer koozie. Then I patted myself on the back for not overdoing it. As for rating, the staff were super-friendly and informative, but I do have trouble giving 5 stars to any business where half of their wares are a form of advertising.
