Inconsistent staff and store procedures. I have always used my mobile ID for purchasing alcoholic beverages and have NEVER had an issue until this morning. It's a valid ID, current, and able to be scanned like any physical ID card -- yet I was told by the cashier "we don't accept them". When I pointed out that all past employees HAVE, the cashier's response was "well we have a lot of new people". I have given them several opportunities to determine if this was just a one off; The Safeway corporation runs an ad and every single time the ad is for an item in the meat department the store on Estrella in Goodyear doesn't have it cut wrapped and available; It's in the back. I've had to track down a butcher and listen to their song and dance about having to cut and package the item. Tired of it; will switch to the store on Indian School road in Goodyear. This review is for the Starbucks department. I had the misfortune of trying to get a Starbucks order yesterday, Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Even though there were three employees working behind the Starbucks platform, it took over 30 minutes to get my order. This made me very late for work. And of course the order was incorrect. I ordered a double bacon croissant instead I got a Gouda sandwich I tried to sandwich took one bite it was terrible I threw it away a loss of money. Also, I ordered a extra dry cappuccino this was of course also prepared incorrectly even though I clearly stated that is supposed to be very light and described exactly what I wanted they of course ignored those requests. Basically they gave me a glass of warm milk with coffee flavoring. That is not a cappuccino. I think it would not be inappropriate to let the Starbucks district manager know how terrible job employees are doing. In fact I wouldn't mind if he or she personally brought a replacement croissant sandwich and correctly prepared cappuccino to my workplace at their time money and expense of course. Once I got home and went to grill a couple up, when I opened the pack they smelt bad, were slimy- I check the best by date. They were out of date. I brought them immediately back. Starting shopping here after I was finally done with Frys (which is 1 block away). I loved it right away - clean, bright, well stocked, great prices, the meat is great, produce is stocked and fresh, and they have great carts that fit in the aisles with multiple people. They have great cashiers, especially Kathy, Kat and Linda. These ladies are friendly, know how to bag groceries and are personable. The app is a pain, but if something doesn't come off the employees at the courtesy counter, like Amber and Lee are fantastic. And if you need flowers, they have a wonderful floral department. I do not expect perfection from any business or person - because everyone is entitled to have a bad day. But this Safeway is doing it right. read more

Have been a regular customer for years, but very unhappy. Get to checkout with a full cart, only to find there are no full service cashiers. I'm supposed to go through self serve with 25 plus produce items that have to be keyed in, not to mention the rest of a full cart. Told customer service if it happens , I will leave my cart, walk out and not come back. I understand people call in sick, but if they schedule staff so tightly there is no one to run a check out, I have a problem. Don't think expecting basic service is unreasonable. If I have to checkout a large cartload of my own groceries on a teenie tiny checkout aisle, I expect a paycheck or an employee discount. I shop in the morning and there aren't any cashiers. They have someone there to teach customers their new jobs, but they don't staff cashiers to do their own jobs. Seniors (the people that usually shop mornings) don't want self checkout and neither do I. I'd use the delivery service but the 3rd party people they hire have failed miserably. What can you say about a grocery store?! I do the bulk of my shopping at this one, and i can say that i have never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the lines move along pretty good, and the store is clean. Prices are a few cents higher than FRYS and SUPER WALMART but the meat and deli stuff are in my opinion much better. Also there is a Starbucks and US Bank inside. Also, online shopping and delivery is available at this location! They also have a gas station, just becareful in the morning as the Coke guy stocks the tiny mart, nearly forcing you to climb over mountains of soda to get to the cashier! read more

Switched to this pharmacy because of good service but it has changed and today was the last insult. There were 3 people at the pharmacy I stood waiting to be helped but the one in the white coat was into her story about a customer with great personal detail. I waited patiently but she continued spewing info about this client with hardly a breath. I taped on the counter lightly, first to let them know I was waiting, second to stop the conversation that was personal about another client. The white coat slightly turned and said ya I know you're there I saw you. Then proceeded to spew more detail. Finally one of the other girls came to help me but was rude and short with me. Heaven forbid I made her work. No consultation from the white suit... really didn't have a choice nor did I want her to know my personal business. So unprofessional, rude and arrogant. This review is for the deli. While visiting the area, we stopped by this Safeway. I went to the deli and initially there was an absence of help or the person didn't know English (it was hard to understand). Finally, I found someone (Cathy) who can assist me with making a deli sandwich. An Italian meat sandwich with aoili sauce. Initially, the bread they had on hand was stale but the employee told me she wouldn't serve it to herself so she found some freshly made bakery bread. She also went "shopping" for Italian meats because there were none available (you would think they would be available but again the initial non-English person was too busy cutting up fresh salmon to bother with helping keep the sandwich section stocked). Overall, Cathy provided excellent customer service and the sandwich met my expectation. read more

This store has had a lot of turn over with management. When the weekly sales ad goes out, this store is always very limited and always out of the sale items even early in the morning on the 1st day the sale starts. The management is constantly blaming their delivery trucks and that they are not considered a busy store and are low on the delivery list. It's strange that the store up on the mountain (estrella mountain) seems to be always stocked as though they know how to order and prepare for the sales they advertise. This store also has many out dated products on their shelves (make sure to always look at the expiration date on everything before buying at this store). When these things are brought to managements attention, there is always an excuse. Another negative is the lines, on a typical day they will have 1 maybe 2 cashiers. When you ask the cashier why they are short handed, I'm always told management has decreased hours. REALLY!!! Corporate needs to go in and secret shop at this location, check shelves and overall attitude without letting the management/staff know they are there to get a good picture UNLESS they just don't care. We have limited our shopping at this location and go to Walmart and Fry's for the majority of our shopping now. What a shame, I'm surprised they are still standing. read more

I have shopped at Safeway for years, I have worked as a Merchandiser for Safeway for two years. I have been to every Safeway in Arizona just about. I know the good and the bad. DO NOT GO TO THIS SAFEWAY. They are terrible. Lame staff, Lame store. If you are not convinced, at least DON'T BUY THEIR MEAT. They ALWAYS give me brown stinky meat wrapped in red new meat as a trick to throw less away. I have reported this, had a refund given, but I am not going to do that every single time. They KNOW about the issue, they KNOW who is doing it, I have told them to their face at the meat counter. There are other reviews backing this claim. This is something that needs to escalate to higher ups in the company. This is a health code violation and they are stealing money from people who are buying meat just to throw it away. Walmart down the street has never once sold me anything substandard of what I expected. Fry's down the other street is also better and I don't like Fry's so that's saying something. II wanted to update this review. It's been 10 months since I reviewed Safeway on Estrella Pkwy and I wanted to give them a second chance. Sorry I did. The meat again was awful, the discount bin was overflowing with green meat and some of it was starting to get warm. The meat counter area did get a bit cleaner and I was interested in meat in the case. Unfortunately the man tending the counter and I had a slight language barrier and he was unable to answer my questions, but he was nice enough. Still not a place I want to shop. The other huge turn off was the assistant manager at the service desk. He looked overwhelmed and unfriendly, never once did he look interested in what I needed or happy to be there. On a bright note the Starbucks employees are always great and the coffee is good! I will still just keep this as a milk and bread stop only. read more

I'm glad I'm not the only one reviewing a grocery store... but I just think this Safeway deserves a special shout-out because of how horrible my experiences have been. We moved here about 7 or 8 months ago, and this is the closest grocery store, so obviously we've been there quite a bit. Convenient location, we usually like Safeway, and it has a Starbucks in it. Cool. Unfortunately, this is probably the worst Safeway I've ever shopped in. I don't know why, but every time I go there is a horrible experience. The employees always seem to be rude, if they even interact with you at all. They all seem to hate their jobs, and I would too if I worked at this location! I definitely don't blame them. The most annoying part is that whenever I go, no matter what day of the week or time of day, seems to be extremely busy customer-wise. The best part is that I have only ever seen 2 cash registers open MAX, when it was ridiculously busy, but it is usually just 1 lane. As you can imagine, the line gets incredibly long... and on top of this all, each customer seems to take forever to check out. I have no idea where the blame lies here, but it is seriously the slowest service I've ever seen in any grocery store. I don't even know how to describe it... it's just like being in the Twilight Zone or something, and no one else seems to notice here! They act like it's completely normal. Also, this place used to be clean according to the reviews. It doesn't look that clean to me whenever I go... We have decided to just go to Fry's or even the Super Target, even though they are farther away from home than Safeway. We HATE Fry's, but the location closest to this Safeway is much better than the Safeway... Hell, I'd even rather go to Wal Mart at this point, and we avoid Wal Mart like the plague! On top of all of this, the Safeway prices are obviously ridiculous. It was fine before because we liked going to our old Safeway so much, but at this location the price is definitely not justified. They do offer rain checks but I didnt drive 15 minutes to the nearest Safeway to not get the items I came for and given a piece of paper telling me to come back some other time when they may or may not have that item again. What I like about this Safeway: You can have the butcher marinate your meat for free!!! Any meat you buy...they open it..put the marinade that you choose ...and reseal. Love it!! What I don't like about this Safeway: There are no self check outs. I usually just go in here to get a few items and there is always a long line. Why didn't they put the self check outs in here?? This Safeway is one of the worst that I've been to. I grew up shopping at Safeway, and this one does not meet my standards at all. The bathrooms are always disgusting and in need of a major remodel. The size is smaller than most other Safeways, but it should have all the basic items that you need. I don't think I've EVER seen someone walking around the store to assist customers either. Their cashiers are hit or miss. Some are friendly, and some don't say a word to you during checkout. Head to the Fry's down the street and get better service and cheaper prices. read more

I was in this store today to pick up some essentials and I was surprised at how filthy the store was. This store is located in a newer part of Goodyear but it looks like one that would have been around for 50 years. First, the bathroom was horrible. The mirrors were scratched with graffiti writing, no soap in the dispenser and the floor looked as if it had not been mopped in a week. I went to pick the items up and noticed the Oscar Mayer bacon was priced at 3.99 each with a coupon on the Safeway website, so the tag read. Well I tried to find the coupon on the website. I got to the register mentioned the ad and the cashier could not get the help as she should from the lead or supervisor. I truly hope that someone from Corporate reads this and steps in to do something about it. The store opens early enough, I was in there at 630am to get a Starbucks and Lotto Tickets, the Starbucks franchise runs OK, usually a little thinly staffed, often only 1 person but it's not overwhelmed like an actual Starbucks location. In fact now that I think about that, maybe if they staffed appropriately, they might see more business .. HMMMMM. After the Frap I walked over to customer service, pleasantly surprised I found there were 3 checkout lanes open, when I've been there in the afternoon, when the store is actually busy and they need more help, you're lucky to find 1 lane working! I stood in line at customer service for a minute then heard a voice from the register behind me tell me that they don't open until 8 .. WHAT !!!! The store was open at 630, I'm a customer and I need service, hence the need for Customer Service, but they don't get in until 8am ... so had my lottery ticket paid out the bazillion dollars or whatever it was that week, QuickTrip would have gotten the bonus because they were open and they were selling tickets at 630am! One additional comment as I circle back, I'm from Florida, I'm loyal to Publix as they are the Gold Standard in Grocery Stores, face it if your motto is "Where shopping is a Pleasure" then Safeway's should be "The last place you go to for customer service as we never have bag boys (or girls), and our customer service counter is only open when we feel the need". Fry's is open on Yuma and Cotton ... they have GREAT customer service! read more

Floral department in this store is Amazing! We used them for flowers for my daughters wedding, the bags of rose petals were fresh, beautiful and generous! The corsages were exactly as ordered and had a wonderful fragrance. Everything was ready and packaged neatly and ready on time. Loved the woman who ran the department, she was friendly and helpful. This was absolutely a great choice, a no stress service for such a big day for us. I would highly recommend them. read more
