Broken eggs, rotten tomatoes and loooong hold times for customer service. And that's just the beginning. Holding for 45 minutes to an hour every single time! Then, they didn't do what they said they would after all the effort. Many eggs are broken, frequently receive tomatoes that were well past their prime among other over ripe produce. If you call, they'll refund the problems, but hold times takes too long to make it worthwhile. Drivers are courteous and polite. Returns and exchanges can happen in store. We're going to try Fry's next to see if it's any better. Otherwise we won't order eggs, produce or other items for delivery...kind of defeats the purpose. read more

I recently had a baby so I thought that this home delivery service would be great as I wouldn't have to leave the house. Boy was I wrong...the delivery man left my groceries on the curb outside of my fence so I had to retrieve them. There was no itemized receipt and I was missing about 8 items causing me to have to go to the store anyways. In addition their customer service is the worst. No one picks up when you call and select option 3 for "other calls" (still haven't reached anyone) and I wrote them an email over 24hrs ago with no response. Yet they are still trying to charge me full price for my partial grocery order. I won't EVER use their service again as it's a waste of money and time. Update:I finally reached someone on the phone and they are going to refund me what I didn't receive, but they are still trying to charge me the full amount without all of my discount codes, so I'm contesting it now through my bank. So pathetic and ridiculous! No call no show for a delivery window of 5-9 PM on Monday. Husband calls. They try to reschedule for the following morning between 7 and 9. After being told by both of us, on two separate calls that that won't work, they schedule it for 7-9 anyway! And I'd didn't find THAT out til I called at 2 PM asking where the heck it was!!! I relied on this service. I am a mom with four children, two who have extraordinary medical needs. My husband works out of town all week long and I also run a business. Taking four kids into a grocery store just isn't feasible - unless you want my three year old, who has a processing disorder, running insane through the store. I try to spare others that woe. Customer service basically says "what do you want me to do?" My suggestion was to have the manager pull the order and deliver it themselves. Oh, they can't make that happen. My first 3 deliveries went well, so I felt confident ordering $250 worth of groceries to be delivered between 6 and 7pm. 8pm came, and no groceries so I called customer support. They couldn't reach the driver and left the driver a voicemail, and said maybe he or she is late as they have until 10pm to deliver. I waited until 10pm (4 hours after my scheduled time) then gave up and ordered takeout. Next day I call support again and they say "Sorry we don't know what happened. We can reschedule, BUT NOT FOR TODAY." So basically I was told that they could not get even my groceries to me 24 hours late, it would have to be over 48 hours late. I declined redelivery and opted for a refund. They said it may take 7-10 business days to receive it. I might use them again in the future in a pinch, but I won't spend more than $50 or whatever I can afford to have tied up for 7-10 business days. What is particularly upsetting to me is that apparently grocery orders can randomly drop off the face of the earth, and Safeway just reschedules them like "Oops sorry we don't know what happened - let's try again." A terrible navigational experience. It's very hard to use, as a website. From the moment you attempt to log in (really hard to find log in button) until you try to find your previous shopping lists, or check out, the site is just terrible. If you wade through the tragedy that is their website, it does get the job done. The delivery people are good (former webvan folks, I think) and generally most of the stuff gets to you, but usually not all of it. Their inventory systems are poor, so they cannot effectively communicate what they do or do not have. Thus you may find yourself heading to the store anyway. Good for bulk stuff, since they bring it to you (such as lots of bottled water or wine or something). It's also expensive, but you know that when you check out, so that's not a surprise. The biggest issue is that near the end of April, they released a "security" update and the site no longer lets previous customers log in. Lame. I'm posting an image. Hello good times. At a grocery store? Huh? Every time I've been to this grocery store it's been on a great trip. This is the last train out of town--your last chance to get everything you need before you head up the coast, to the campground, out to wine country, or just disappear into the woods. As a road trip stop, it's obviously superior to the gas station in it variety of salty, sweet, an sinful lap snacks that you'll munch on as the miles tick by. On the other hand, those gas stations and convenience stores have their own charms. When I stopped a week ago it was for some essentials I'd left at home: shaving cream, deodorant, and a beverage. Okay, so the beverage was an impulse buy. But I also appreciated that I could use the restrooms, even if they were located way in the back room amongst the employee-only area and they were only tidy-esque. Service was good, but it was a midweek stop. When I was here a couple of years ago on a Friday it was a zoo. Lots of tourists like me clogging up the lines, and I overheard a few locals expressing their excitement for Labor Day and the end of tourism season. Better grab it here at Safeway, because it may be your last chance. If you're a local, you may have long lines on the weekend, but you've got a great variety of goods in Guerneville. read more

I have been ordering from Safeway for years, not because I was actually happy with the service, but because I wasn't UNhappy enough to go to the store. (I hate grocery shopping.) Just when I was getting frustrated enough to try another service, I received a promo code for free delivery through May 2018, so I stuck it out hoping my experience would improve. It has only gotten worse. There are consistent out of stock issues, continuous delivery of out of date meats and dairy, and late deliveries with no calls to alert me. As I type this, I'm waiting for a delivery that was supposed to be here between 9 and 10 (it's now 10:45), and I've received no call. When I called customer service to get an ETA, I gave up after holding for 15 minutes. The only positive thing I can say about Safeway delivery is that the drivers themselves seem to work hard and are almost always friendly. I should also note that I have alerted both the store and the customer service line about the out of date items, since that's something the in-store shoppers should. E catching. The store said I should call customer service, and customer service gave an excuse about the fact that the shoppers work earlier than the meat and dairy departments, so that means the out of date items haven't been pulled off the shelves yet. Seems to me, the shoppers need to be trained to check dates, then. How can such a simple thing be so difficult to correct? They've done me in. I'm off to try Peapod now. read more

I've ordered groceries form Safety 4 times now and EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. there's been an issue. This last time (yes, I realize I'm a sucker for continuing to use this service given the headaches but it's still the cheapest grocery option) they forgot ALL of my frozen items. Basically 1-2 bags of groceries were totally missing. I wanted to force the delivery guy to wait as I went through each and every thing this time around but it was raining and I felt bad. I don't understand how they can be so careless and forget BAGS for groceries. Have a color coded system or physically tie the bags together or SOMETHING! I had to call customer service YET AGAIN and the only "fix" they had was to reschedule a delivery window (4 hour window mind you) the following day from 11am-3pm or give me a refund. Calling the driver to actually deliver my items that same night was not an option (I guess the delivery guys don't have cell phones....) In the past, I've had items delivered that were not mine, bruised and rotting produce delivered, and of course, the aforementioned missing items (it's never just one or two things missing either, it's always entire bags). The only plus is that if you need to make a large grocery trip and don't have a car, delivery is cheap. They also are a regular grocery store so you don't have to pay the premium for fancy foods (i.e. Good eggs). They really REALLY need to fix the glitches in their delivery though. It's not convenient for me to reschedule a delivery for the next day and I don't want a refund--I just want you to deliver the things I asked for in the first place. They also throw in a delivery credit for the "next time" because, they know no matter how bad they screw up, people like me will continue having to use them. Ok so I was sick last week, really sick. I managed to dodge the H1N1 (or DID I?) nightmare but it seems I got everything but the flu. I thought I could count on Safeway.com to bring me things I needed to keep me from getting any worse. They claimed to be out of stock on basic items I ordered like bananas. How the hell can they be out of bananas? I was livid. After days of suffering, I had a serious banana breakdown and called my mom in tears like a big baby. When you read the other reviews, it seems that Safeway.com sucks and always disappoints by not having the basics. It was not a banana conspiracy designed to deprive me of potassium. After hearing the manager tell me they didn't get enough hours from corporate to have more than 2 open check stands on a weeknight, I find myself at the store again, but this time it's Saturday morning edging close to noon. And lo, and behold, there are -- count 'em -- FIVE check stands open! Each has approximately 2 or 3 folks waiting with a few more in the ONE quick check line. A huge difference from Tuesday night as reviewed in my original review. So I stop and ask the same manager why he can manage five open check stands on a Saturday and only two for the same number of people on a weeknight during rush hour... While he's sputtering away, I answer for him: Because tourists are more important than locals, that's why. And that is why I will shop at the Guerneville Safeway only under protest and if I must. Otherwise, I will do as I have seen numerous other locals do: Get out the Styrofoam cooler and icepacks and shop in Santa Rosa or Sebastopol. read more

This time the most important items are missing - very disappointed. The Guerneville Safeway is the last outpost of civilization-in a manner of speaking- on the way to the Pacific Ocean. As you go westward, all you'll see are the rivers, the vineyards, the redwoods, then the expanse of the Ocean. There's a funky flea market in the front parking lot, and it's rough around the edges. The Guerneville Safeway is good for getting necessities. The bathrooms could use some cleaning (and the store itself), but it's OK. Great service (better than Napa, it has a rural vibe), good for what you need. It serves its purpose. read more

I waited until 8:05pm to call customer support to ask where my order was, because it had not arrived yet. For some reason, it's really hard to find parking at this Safeway. You have to circle back a couple of times. We came in here to get some essentials and a sandwich but unfortunately had to wait almost 15 minutes from waiting to ordering. It seemed like they were understaffed here. If you work for Safeway delivery, my apologies. Not because you work for Safeway delivery, but because I'm that annoying customer who lives on the 3rd floor of a building with no elevator and likes to order large quantities of soda and 28lb containers of kitty litter. Sure, I try to help you out - take a case here, a bottle of liquor there, but it takes several laborous trips and you're usually a little sweaty by the time you pull out that receipt. Through it all, you're generally pretty nice, usually sporting a smile, maybe say something like "boy, this is a workout!" in a friendly fashion once or twice. So, the fact that the produce is a bit scary looking is fine, there's better stuff nearby that's cheaper. I can also forgive the one time I was charged for that organic frozen burrito I discovered previously and was really looking forward to but didn't receive - it wasn't worth the $1.69 to complain and it hasn't happened since. Just for traipsing up my stairs with all that crap I'll give you a 50% tip - what's that? You don't accept tips? Gee, sorry. I don't know who took home my Safeway grocery bags TWICE this year full of articles for the refrigerator. Safeway called 40 minutes after the end of the delivery window to tell me their IT system was down and could not verify any ordering information. Seemed surprised when I told them I wanted a refund. I've ordered from them before with varying success -- often the wrong item is substituted without a note on the receipt, although one time I got double the bananas for the regular price. The oranges and avocados don't last as long as the ones I buy in-store, so I'm not sure what the story is there. After 10pm they shut down the self check out even when the lines are long. They have shut down all 4 self check out station even though there was a line waiting to use then.
