I, like most people, shop at a grocery store regularly. This is the only one that I've gone to in my entire life that has had staff members regularly accuse me of shoplifting as I self-checkout. Safeway/Albertsons Corporate would probably be over the moon if they found out that there was a 'shoplifter' that regularly spent over $100 a week in groceries at one of their stores. Well, too bad. I went to the deli section to have some ham sliced. I waited a bit, and then went to the hot food section and asked for some help. I asked the lady of thin sliced ham, about a pound. She pulls out a unopened ham and starts slicing, blocking my view of what she was cutting. She wraps it up, prices it and gives it to me. I get it home, it is too thin to line my small loaf pans, she even included th tiny pieces off the end of new ham. She never showed me what slice she was cutting. I wish there was an app that we could rate employees, not the actual store, because I LOVE SAFEWAY, it's so close to my house, it's a beautiful store & I normally shop there TWICE a day for 15 years, and with the exception of yesterday, the service has been impeccable...the 1 employee who woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or someone pi$$ed in his cheerios RUINED the entire experience for me. See what happened below. I was shopping and normally I shop for myself and for my work. I had my cart divided with my items and I went to the self check out to check out. I started to do all my work groceries....bagged, then and put my personal debit card in my mistake...should have put my personal card. I realized what I had done so I went to the girl and said "hey, I just accidently used the wrong card, can it be voided so I can use the right card" She was wonderful and said that she couldn't, but upper manager could. Right then a gentlemen in a black vest, pierced eyebrow and frown on his face starts pushing a cart in. She calls him over, his name is Dan...,and explains the situtaion to him. He huffs loudly and says "Well I'm going to have to refund all the items, then re-ring them up, were short staffed....etc. He was making it clear how unhappy he was to be there....I remember thinking "I'm going to have a problem with him"...he told the checker to have me follow him, which I did. He brought me over to another check stand and I handed him by bag that was already bagged with my work groceries. I told him "Thank you for helping me"....he said nothing... Aggressively he starts removing all the items from my bag....NOW HERE'S WHERE IT GOES WRONG,...he starts checking items, I think "ok, he's redoing the order so I can now put all these items on my work card". When he's done checking he says "Put your card in"............NOW I SHOULD HAVE ASKED "IS THIS THE REFUND OR IS THIS THE NEW ORDER GOING ON THE CORRECT CARD...." or he should have told me. He said nothing.........so I put my work card in AGAIN, assuming this was the new order on the correct card. I put my card in, he presses a few buttons and then gives me my receipt for my refund. I just look at him and say "wait, no....I thought you were doing my new correct order for my work card.............you just refunded me my work card and I needed my personal card refunded, not my work card..... He just screams "JESUS CHRIST........" so to the service rep is is swearing at. I just looked at him and said "EXCUSE ME'".....He just looks at me and says "this is the second time you have done this, I told you I had to refund you, then recharge you, I said to him "YOU TOLD ME NOTHING, YOU SAID IT TO YOUR CHECKOUT GIRL NOT TO ME AND CLEARLY YOU DIDN'T EXPLAIN WHAT YOU WERE DOING" He just stars at me and says "I have had 4 other customers who have made mistakes...TO WHICH I CUT HIM OFF AND SAID "That IS NOT my problem". He looks back at me and says "Are you going to continue to cut me off".... I just started at him...not my blood is boiling. NEVER HAVE I BEEN SPOKEN TO LIKE THIS, OR RECEIVED ANY TYPE OF HORRIBLE SERVICE LIKE THIS.....I said "No, I'm done with you".....I pushed my cart out of the isle over by customer service grabbed my purse and stormed out.... I got in my car and was so angry I couldn't drive I got on the phone, called the customer service line at that grocery store, asked for who the GM was, I was told it was a gentlemen by the name of Josh, who just left, but would be back in on Saturday morning at 7am. (this happened on a Friday afternoon) I left my name and phone number and said it was imperative that I speak with him after the horrible treatment I received from "Dan".........She said she would leave a msg... Well...it's' Sunday night, still no phone call....lol, not surprised at all. Found the corporate offices number and will be reporting this situation to them. Good News........never really gave Fred Meyer a shot in the past with shopping, since i was so dedicated to Safeway. Me and my fiancé were going to a dinner part on Saturday night, so I needed the items. I came home fuming and told my fiancé, he very calming said.."Well were done with Safeway, were now customers of Fred Meyer. We went and got all our items for our dinner party there, and had great customer service! read more

This is a large Safeway compared to other grocery stores in the area that are small and lack variety. The prices are high here. I stopped in just to return a movie to Redbox - located in the front of the store by customer service - and grabbed a drink. Perused a few things to check out the prices, and no thanks. They have a really big selection of Seahawks swag in the front of the store, especially for a grocery. read more

This location had tons of parking but it is inconveniently far away from the only open entrance right now. Being that the parking is shared with a busy area of this shopping plaza and I parked by the doors that weren't open, I ended up getting drenched running in the rain to the other side of the store with the only doors open on the right side (when facing the store). I ran back to my car when I got out and got drenched again getting to my parking spot super far away. Parking aside, this store was disappointing - was looking for tulips or nice spring flowers since the weather was dreary and found no such luck here. They did have eggs in stock and had signs up to remind customers of the limits on certain items. Got the butter and yogurt I needed here and saw they had one of my favorite ice creams so that was good. As I was wandering around I couldn't find anyone to ask where I could find another item so just left - I guess they are understaffed during this pandemic so that was understandable. read more

Their pharmacy gives out conflicting information. Their dial-in number says they do walk in vaccinations. Speaking with the pharmacist they say you have to schedule online. When walking in they say they have appointments available, but online doesn't show any availability. It would be nice if they would follow the procedures established by their own company. When I asked to speak with a manager, the checker (front end) huffed, called for a manger, then huffed again and walked off. No manger ever showed up. It was the most bizarre encounter with Safeway staff I have had. The store itself looks great and seems to be well stocked, I'm just not sure what is going on with the employees. read more

Open letter to Safeway, Issaquah, WA: I assume the information shown on the interactive map under "Orders" is kept current by the driver(s) sending information to "HQ". If so, *none* of your drivers operating out of Issaquah, WA, send that information. Thus, the interactive map is *always* massively behind the time, if it updates at all. This is ridiculous. Further, despite my fervent request, I am never called to let me know the truck will soon arrive. I am in my 70's, have a bad heart and bad lungs, and must go down a steep dirt driveway more than 100 yards long, to meet the truck. And I have no way to see the street. Thus, being told when the truck is getting near is utterly necessary. All of these problems are unacceptable. Until I have *WRITTEN* assurance the drivers at the Issaquah store have been sent for re-training, I will be using QFC's delivery system. It may cost about 75% more, but I've never had such problems with them. read more

I've tried Safeway grocery delivery in Issaquah WA at least five times now and they have NEVER gotten it right! they don't deliver items in the order and I have to call to get them delivered the next day. They substitute without my consent - dumb things like regular Dr Pepper instead of diet. Rude delivery man. I'm not someone who regularly posts reviews on the places I visit, it's rare I have anything negative to say about anyone or anywhere I go because I function with the assumption that even if the service I receive isn't up to par, is found to be lacking or in some cases is just downright terrible, there is probably a reason for it and it may be a one time occurrence. Heck, it could even be my own perception being impacted by the vibe my personal life is functioning under. Today it was none of these, today it was the funky attitudes and bad manners of the staff of a supermarket that I have been frequenting since I was young enough that my mother was pushing me up and down the aisles of while I rode the child seat of a shopping cart. Today the staff made assumptions just judgements that offended me and were rude and uncalled for. I am going to share a personal detail about my life that is no one's business and is difficult to discuss. My personal life is not great, I unexpectedly and tragically lost the love of my life and soulmate, the father of my young children and best friend for a decade, a little over a year ago on September 12 2022. Since then depression and sadness are the main emotions I function under every day and it's hard to get through anything, like trips to the store. I've also gotten into a casual relationship with a friend and I have to admit it's challenging, for several reasons. First, he wants to be more serious and I'm not ready for that (probably never will be in all honesty). Second, because I am not willing to take things to a deeper level and his own insecurities (as far as I can tell) he has become a bit controlling and unfortunately our casual relationship has become something that feels dangerously close to domestic violence and abusive. So today when we got into yet another argument and I felt that I needed to get away and take some space for myself I ended up at my local Safeway. I was distracted, I was emotionally drained and I had no real need to be there so I was simply taking my time browsing the aisles and selecting miscellaneous unnecessary (and overpriced) items. Suddenly I am approached by a POLICE OFFICER. She informed me that the staff thought I was going to steal, that they were certain I already had items in my bag (i voluntarily opened my bag and showed her the contents - none of which were stolen from Safeway) I then showed her my wallet and debit card to assure her that I was in fact planning on purchasing the items in my cart. It was embarrassing, it was hurtful and it was enraging as well. I left the cart and I exited the store, as I did so I could hear the employees talking about me loudly on walkie talkies. I'm disappointed and I'm angry that as I was experiencing a moment of despair and pain personally I looked for comfort and familiarity in an establishment that often feels like a comfortable and safe place and I was treated like a thief and a criminal. Disturbing behavior and rude assumptions by the lame, heartless and snobby staff have caused a loyal lifelong customer to go elsewhere for all my grocery and household supply needs from now on read more

Went to pick up groceries I had ordered online. After my 1.5 hour commute and waiting for 15 minutes to get said order with an additional 5 for guy asking for my pick up code(1st time out of 300 I have even been asked this), I was in a hurry to get home. Once I opened my trunk there were only a few bags with some heavy items-definitely not $200 worth of groceries. As my husband and I began to unload, he complained I did not get him crackers or the french bread for tonight's dinner. At that point, I decided to look at my receipt and compare what I had. I was missing 13 items (80$ worth). I called safeway hoping they would find the missing bags. They informed me they were not there and that they could not help me. They told me to call online customer service and provided no number. After searching for it, I called and was refunded. I did not want to have to get a refund, I wanted the groceries I spent 30 minutes ordering. Now we have nothing for dinner and I wasted another hour of my evening. Last time shopping here! read more

This is a nice and big Safeway with all the usual items. The parts that made it "5 stars" for me were: The guy at the deli counter was very polite.... and the Italian pasta salad I got was quite good. Their in-store Jamba Juice. My friend and I were trying our first ever wheatgrass shots and the gal working suggested we use OJ or an orange slice as a chaser. We decided on the OJ and they gave both of us little plastic "shot" glasses filled with juice. Awesome! Added bonus? If you're only getting a few items and no cigarettes or other such things (as well as a Jamba Juice item), the JJ people can ring up your other Safeway items. This was SWEET because the it was Christmas Eve and the check-out lanes were LONG. read more

That being said in the parking lot on the Starbucks side of Safeway at any given time, but especially after dark there is always two to three people shooting up in plain site in their vehicles or passed out on drugs. Overall I have been happy with this location. The store is usually ridiculously cold especially near the frozen aisles. I asked why it was so cold and I was told other customers had even sent in suggestion cards suggesting they make the store warmer. I was told the corporate office in Arizona regulates the cooling system so they have no way to correct this locally. All customers can do is wear warm jackets and complain to Corporate. read more

I can not STAND this location. It will be my last time here. 3 weeks ago, I bought chicken breast and was planning to make for dinner the next night.. when I opened up the package, it smelt horrible. I checked the packing date and it was already 13 DAYS past the use by date. Then last night, I was standing in line at the deli waiting for the one person working to finish slices the 3 pounds of ham the customer had ordered in front of me. After waiting for 5 minutes, the worker told me they were now closed and denied helping me. I then proceeded to pick out the already packaged meat that is next to the deli counter and those packages were already 5 days past the expiration date. I love this store! It is convenient to swing by here after a Costco run if you realize you don't need certain things in bulk. There is a Jamba AND and Starbucks in this store, so you can enjoy something hot or cold while you shop. Right next door there is an REI. I love sending whoever I'm shopping with over there so they can be entertained while I shop. Grocery shopping requires concentration to get the best deals after all! There is a Papa Murphy's and a few restaurants in the shopping center too . Literally a one stop shop. This store has a great variety in every section, I've found. Super convenient to grab a few things on your way home from work if you live close by. read more

I'm always treated well, and am pretty satisfied with their products. ***special shout out to the pharmacy*** I switched from Target because their head pharmacist is extremely rude, they seldom had my Rx filled, even when I would call it in 24 hrs in advance, they close up for an hour for lunch then are overrun and backed up for 2 hours. I switched to Safeway pharmacy the first week they were open. Both Edward and Rioh are awesome! They are informative, helpful, respectful and go the extra mile for their clients. read more

This occurrence happened on June 7th, 2018: PAY ATTENTION CLOSELY, SAFEWAY ISSAQUAH. I have already reported you to BBB and Safeway corporate. I hope everyone involved gets fired. YOU KNOW HOW BADLY YOU TREATED ME AND THAT WHEN I PLEADED WITH YOU FOR A MANAGER, YOU CLAIMED HE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AFTER I WAS ABUSED BY CELIA IN THE DELI. I GOT SOMEONE NAMED SARAH WHO SAID SHE TOOK DOWN MY COMPLAINT, BUT THEN WHEN I TOLD HER HOW I WAS ABUSED BY ANOTHER CASHIER NAMED MARYANNE, SHE ASKED ME TO LEAVE THE STORE!!! First, when I came into the store, there was a woman that had almost run me over through her bad parking. After recovering from that scenario, I walked in and went to the deli, and my blood sugar and insulin was bothering me as I have a medical condition in which I need food or things do not go well for me. I walked in and waited for a VERY LONG TIME at the deli counter (at least 10 minutes). When I got up the counter, the deli woman (whose name I later found as being Celia) said to me, "I will be back...I have to do some dishes." I said, "Excuse me?" And she said, "You have a problem with that?" And I said, "Yes, from a customer service standpoint, I do have a problem with that. I have been in customer service for 30 years, and I cannot believe the horrible service I am getting right now." She did not ask me how I was and she did not ask me if I wanted something first. She said, "You know I need to take care of my employees over the customers" and she started yelling at me. I told her, "I am Italian. You really do not want to argue with me this way, b/c I will win." If I was not so hungry at this point, I would not have still been standing there. So she said angrily AND WITH APPARENT, ABUSIVE HOSTILITY, "What do you want?!!!" And I said with the same hostility that i wanted some chow mein for 5.99, but she gave me the more expensive one and I told her I do not want that one. She started yelling at me about it and hat she would get me a smaller bowl and I told her I do not want that bowl. I told her I wanted the egg rolls. I got two egg rolls. After this, I asked for her name. She said, "You can get it off my name tag", but she was hiding it behind the counter and she knew I could not see it. So I crouched down and got it. I was do disturbed by her that I went to the service desk and I believe this person's name was "Sarah" and I asked her for the Manager and at first she said, "Hold on, I will get him", but then came back and said, "What is this about?" and I said, "I just want to talk to a manager about an abusive employee", and then she conveniently lied and said "There is no manager available." After NOT listening to me and helping another employee, I did not get any acknowledgement that she was going to pass this onto the Manager. I then finished my shopping. That is when things went from bad to worse. I went through the checkout line and Maryann, the cashier, not only did not greet me, but said, "Why are you only getting one soda pack?" and I said, "B.c I am", and then she got angry and said "Oh". So I said, sternly, while looking her in the eye, "I have been in service 30 years, and honestly I would just like, at the bare minimum, to be greeted by the employees." So, she then started yelling at me saying, "I have a sore throat and I am very sick!!"..Hmmm....so A.) Why are you at work? and B.) Even so...just say that off the bat as opposed to yelling it at me by saying, "I am sorry that I did not greet you. Please forgive me. I am under the weather and I am sorry for that." There are so many different ways one could handle that. As I left I saw Sarah again and she asked if everything was okay and I said "Absolutely not". And I said, "This was a really traumatic, abusive f---ing experience." And she said, "You can leave the store b/c we do not allow that kind of language in here." And I laughed and said, "You allow abuse, but if someone says the "f" word after being horribly abused as a customer, you ask them to leave?" (That is also a Northwest thing as we cuss when we are mistreated on the East Coast, but they apparently have never cussed in their life when they say things like that." Do yourself a favor. Where do I even start. We're in the middle of a global pandemic where masks are MANDATORY to cover your nose and mouth. Yes, the mask covers both your nose, and mouth. Our checker had her mask hanging down, nose exposed. One male Customer service rep didn't even have a mask on, the female leading the self checkout lines had her mask all the way down. Next, I ordered a Jamba Juice and the kid working didn't even wash his hands or use gloves to make the beverage. That should've been my first warning. I tried my smoothie and it tasted like sour milk. Went back for a refund, kid had no idea how to do that..... lastly the most helpful part of our trip today; the customer service lady who actually got my refund for my sour juice. Bless you. Safeway get it together. Controlling customers and their incorrect mask usage is difficult, I know. At the very least I expect your employees to be wearing their masks correctly- and if they can't- don't work. You'll never find a cart handy. Ever. They stock by packing soda pop so tight you have to fight to get a 12 pack out. They offer "3 for deals" and never have 3 available. The deli/bakery/produce staff are always in a bad mood and act like you're ruining their day asking them a question. Just all around a miserable place to shop. read more

My work office recently moved to Issaquah, so I'm having fun exploring the area. (I'm LOVING Issaquah, btw! Wow, has this city changed in the past 10 years. It has a LOT to offer! But I digress...). I had to do some grocery shopping and I found myself in this store. I do my usual grocery shopping in Safeways in Redmond or Kirkland, so it was interesting to discover a new SW. All I can say is, wow. WOW! First, the "good": this store is looks and feels brand new. I know it is not, but it has the feel of a brand new store. It's spotless clean, the interior is huge (way larger than the other SWs I go to), the aisles are wide, the store is super-organized and well laid-out, and it's beautiful. I went up and down every aisle. The lay-out is extremely different than the other stores I go to (it would be nice if there was some consistency) but the signage over the aisles was so clear, and each individual department was so clearly delineated and marked, that I was easily able to find everything I came in for. The deli counter is way longer than those in other SW's and more well-stocked. The wine and liquor department is beautiful. The bakery department had unbelievably gorgeous cakes, the likes of which I have never seen in any grocery store in the PNW (for real). They also stocked breads I've never seen for sale elsewhere (like specialty fold-over thin breads and specialty wraps, and there was just a larger selection of everything). The packaged muffins and sweets and Danishes were pretty amazing; there were some delish-looking things that, I'm embarrassed to admit, I've never even heard of (and this, from a food lover who's pretty much had most sweets and treats her whole life and used to carry the poundage to prove it! lol). The meats and fish counters and islands are larger with more diverse products than other grocery stores. The produce area was gorgeous with a large organic area and shelves of exotic and tropical fruits I've never seen before. They also had packaged wrapped veggies for baking or sautéing or for making fajitas or hamburgers, or stuffed portabella mushroom caps or stuffed jalapeno peppers (stuffed with cheeses and other tasty foods, for grilling or baking). I've never seen the sheer selection of these types of packaged, freshly cut produce in any SF, or even at the nicer QFC's. Sure, I've seen some, but not like this. The floral department was lovely, and although I didn't check it out, it sounds like the pharmacy here is fantastic (reading the reviews). And the health care aisle was impressive, with the usual fare alongside some very high-end hair and skin-care products. Oh, I should note that there is a fantastic Starbucks coffee shop attached to this store, opening up into the SF interior. Now to the "bad": this is a picky point, but the parking lot sure could use more "parking corrals" for the shopping carts. They also could use more employees in the store. (I was here from roughly 6-7:30pm and it was pretty quiet, but there was only 1 employee in the baking department and a bunch of us needed assistance there at the same time, and one guy was in the middle of a lengthy exchange with her about a cake order). And there were only a few cashiers open and the lines were relatively long to check out. Now to the "ugly": I had the coldest and slowest check-out clerk in the history of check-out clerks. I said hi and smiled at her three times when I moved up in her lane, to no response. Granted, she was older and perhaps hard of hearing (but I don't think so). Her ringing up my order and packing and then re-packing and then re-re-packing my items into the tote bags I brought in with me took and inordinately long time. Then she had to look through the super long register receipt to make sure I purchased 2 Belvitas when I handed her 2 coupons for them (she couldn't find them on the receipt and didn't remember ringing them up). This took about 10 minutes and people in line were getting quite antsy. The lady told me this would not have happened if I had given her the coupons prior to her ringing me up. (What? I noted that I always shop and SF and this has never happened to me before and I was never told to give my coupons first, before the clerk scanned the items). Then 2 free yogurts didn't register. Anyhow, the saga continued. It was awkward, time-consuming and unpleasant. (If it hadn't been for this experience at check-out, hand's down this store whould have gotten 5 stars). All in all, this is a pretty amazing grocery store. If I shopped here regularly, I'd know whose check-out lanes to go in and whose to avoid. read more
