This place is bad. 3 reg open 10 people in each line. My fn groceries are defrosting. Mismanaged by all accounts. Employees seem too busy stocking shelves and taking lunch rather than helping customers. read more

I shop here regularly, and usually everyone is pleasant and friendly. Not today. Cashier doesn't say 2 words ,when I get in line with my partially full cart. I stand there waiting to be told to start putting groceries on conveyer , nothing. So I just start emptying my cart. Finally bag boy asked if I need bags? So they do talk? With my cart now empty, I remember something I forgot to get and ask Josh, the bagger if he could go get it for me. Again no response, he just stares at me . So I go get it myself. When I get back, I thank him for nothing. I ask him for his name, no response. I ask again still nothing. Finally I say I am going to speak to manager, and the cashier tells him to go somewhere, or go take a break, I really didn't catch what she said but he leaves and then cashier tells me his name is josh. Then I go to service and wait for manager who is helping another customer. I then see josh has returned. After 10 minutes I give up and go. Not sure I will ever go back, not that anyone from Safeway cares. read more

I've been a customer of this store since it opened. In the last few years their service has dropped to the level that I've been inspired to sign up to Yelp for the sole purpose of reporting their problems. Let me begin by saying that when I was a teen in the sixties, I worked as a bag boy for this store's predecessor, which occupied the same shopping center. Today's experience has become typical: I was shopping for a number of items including skim milk in the quart container. They were out in the milk case. I was able to chase down a quickly moving meat dept. type in the freezer aisle and asked her if she could check if there was any more in the back room. She nervously looked around and said she didn't work in that department (duh). I told her she was the only employee I had seen in the area and asked if she could find someone in the back to help me. She told me I could get help from one of the (busy) cashiers in the front... Since the nineties, there has been a generalized dawning awareness in the entire business community of the value of quality customer service. This trend has not seemed to penetrate the culture of this store. As a former Safeway employee, I can assure you that this wasn't always the case. It was drilled into all the employees that we "drop everything" for our customers. Needless to say my groceries were left in their cart by the front door as I left, disgusted. read more

This is for the Starbucks crew, especially ANISSA and ADELLA. Everytime I go to this STARBUCKS they are very nice and knows exactly what I want. Even if they see me in line, by the time I get to the register to pay, they already have my drink ready. Would love to give them more stars!! Keep up the great work. read more

Here is the scene: lunchtime, the deli is crowded. I think that I am clever and submit my sandwich order via the automated kiosk and figure I will do some shopping while they thin down the line and get to my order. Club card- check. Credit card- accepted. Some error message pops up saying a staff person needs to log in. I call this to the attention of the deli staff, figuring that they could just call someone to see what the machine wanted. I figured wrong. Without even stopping what they were doing they inform me that the kiosk is "broken". I explain that it looks as though my charge went through and I would really appreciate it if some could take a peek so I am not paying twice for a sandwich. I look to the second kiosk and it has a similar message- that the product was paid for but needed a staff code of some sort. I am immediately suspicious. The staff swears up, down and sideways that the transaction is void and that I am welcome to track down the store manager if I have further questions. At this point, I get a little bent. I dont think I should have to track down the manager and ask them to call him or her over to the station. The refuse, telling me a second time to go to customer service and find him. I tell them that I think it would make more sense for the manager to come to the kiosk so he or she could see what was going on. Finally they relented and phoned the manager. The manager, whose name escapes me at the moment, was great. He entered in his code and what do you know...the kiosk was out of receipt paper. The machine was not "broken" as the staff insisted, I had successfully been charged and the machine simply needed paper. The manger informs the deli staff that the machine was not broken and sets about trying to install the paper. He had them go ahead and make my sandwich while he fooled around with the receipt paper and when he was done he gave me my receipt and a coupon for a free sandwich next time. I thought the manger was lovely and thats why this is a two star review instead of a one star review. Had I not stood my ground I would have been double charged, and from what I could see of the second kiosk, I would guess that other customers HAD been double charged. This is not cool, Safeway! Rather than tell customers a kiosk is broken, investigate for a minute! Or if it is actually broken, put a sign on it stating such so folks dont waste their time using it. Props to the manger to for making it right. I hope that this is a training issue that they will address so going forward customers are not double charged. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. How can a conglomerate like Safeway have such poor customer service?!?! No matter which store I go to and irrespective of time ( except 5:30 am), there's ALWAYS a line. We are talking really long lines. The cashiers are usually slow and rude. The baggers don't know how to properly bag and need a lesson from Trader Joes's employees. Service goes a long way. I'm willing to pay a bit more and shop at Lucky's or Nob Hill for a peace of mind and a pleasant shopping experience. read more

This location needs work - the floors are always dirty, the cashiers are ALWAYS understaffed. Why two stars? One time a staff member helped me on getting an item that wasn't on the shelf, and two, you can get some good deals on wine here when on sale. I prefer their other 1st street location near I-580 - it's larger, cleaner, and better staffed. For a long time, the Redbox at this location was always having issues - however it's been OK the last few months. read more

I've worked retail before, so I am a little more compassionate towards retail workers, but when you CUT in front of a CUSTOMER who is walking down a slim aisle and then STOP in front of her and start talking to another customer.. that is just rude. No sorry, no excuse me.. NOTHING. It was like I wasn't there at all. I said excuse me, but he was too busy talking. So, I loudly SIGHED and walked to the next aisle. Im hoping I got the right safeway sincebthere are 2 on 1st street. Anyways, I like coming here because it is walking distance from my work so I frequent this location during my lunch. My favorite part is the Starbucks and I just love karen and abraham, they always remember my order and are super friendly. Yes, the lines for the actual safeway checkout are long at times but I usually opt to bypass that madness and pay at the Starbucks. read more

Whoever gives this two stars has probably never been to a bad grocery store. It's nice and clean inside, they have a wide variety of hot food and decent sushi for lunch, and it's got a nice variety of groceries in stock. The bathroom could use some sprucing up, but it's open 24/7 which is SO RARE around here. You have to give it stars for that! read more

My wife always seems to find one or two deals at Safeway, but I avoid the place like the plague. Once have I purchased a fried chicken dinner from the Deli at this location. Upon arriving home, I found the chicken to be dry as a rock, no doubt having spent the last 3 days under the heat lamps waiting for some poor sucker (Me) to buy it. The sides were stale at best. So stopped by this morning for Milk and a few other items. When I arrived to check out, the checker stopped to go into the store for a single item a customer could not find. While myself and four other customers waited patiently until she found her way back to her assigned register! I've had bad experiences with this Safeway in the past, specifically with the employees, always thought the person was just having a bad day. Hey... I have bad days, so I've always just let it go...BUT no, majority of the employees are extremely rude & just plain lazy people...even bakery, which acts like their doing you a favor...really? if your unhappy with your job - QUIT! don't blame customers because your life sucks. This Safeway needs serious help!!!!!! I'd really like a reply from the store manager telling me what he plans to do! Consistently the same issues!!!! Long long lines! All times of the day! Everything on Just for You is out of stock! Everything in the weekly ad is out of stock!! The shelves are empty! Have you seen your produce lately? Or spoken to your 'produce' employees?!?! They are rude and have no clue what they're talking about! They sound like they were put in the department with no training. I thought the Safeway across town was bad - this one is 100 times worse! I live a minute away but unfortunately will be driving a distance now to shop at Nob Hill or Lucky. Your store is a disgrace to the Safeway name. The Deli service is horrible. Deli employees will be working in the back, see you, and completely ignore you. The sandwiches are good, but you have to wait SO long for service. And, I agree with the person about the people hanging out and smoking on the tables outside. I hate walking past them. As far as the rest of the grocery store, it is fine. I get off late from work, which is usually my best time to get groceries. This location has been convenient for its late hours and staff accommodations, even when they are restocking so late, they are always happy to help. Russell has been my favorite manager here since I started going in, always happy and friendly with the customers. Unfortunately, my late night visits do not allow our run - ins anymore. Had to pick up 10 large pre-ordered sandwich trays. Long story, but took me almost 40 minutes to just get them meanwhile dealing with deli clerks who don't speak English (Literally, they had to find someone to talk to me) and otherwise being ignored! They wanted me to make 10 separate trips to the car as the big boxed up sandwich trays do not fit in a regular cart and they would not allow me to take their deli rack outside. Finally asked the store manager to have a courtesy clerk help me and he did..but it was such a fiasco with uncaring, unfriendly, rude clerks that do not care about the customer! Then after I finally got them into my car, realized that they didn't give me any condiments or napkins! Had to call back and ask for it. Decided to just go without it once I got to my destination as going back was not a fun thought! They need a new store manager who kicks these dept managers in the ass and make them do a better job! read more

I ordered online for curbside delivery and received confirmation text for a 4 o clock pickup time. Never received a text saying that it was ready. Went to the store at 5:35. My order wasn't there. The person on the phone said she would check and get back to me. She didn't. I called back after waiting in the parking lot another 30 minutes. She said they were getting my order ready and would email me when it was ready. I told her it didn't make sense to go home and come back. I waited 10 more minutes and a partial order with no receipt was delivered to my car. Not great service. I received less than half my order and left at 6:10 more than two hours after my assigned pickup time and they charged the full amount. Tried to leave a. Inquiry through their contact portion of the app but the app kept throwing me out and never accepted my comments. Very frustrating experience. I could have gone into the store and bought everything myself much faster but I have preexisting conditions and don't want to risk COVID-19. I had good experiences before today but will be looking into other stores now. read more

So I walk up to a checkout line and get there just before an elderly lady with a few items and tell her she can go ahead of me. She gratefully accepted. About 15 seconds later I noticed the checkout clerk ask the couple she was helping at the time to do something. The lady of the couple paying for their groceries turns around and tells me she is closed and to pick another isle. Dumbfounded by my backfiring generosity, I turn around and move to the next line. Now, from my view, it sure seems that a store might want to find a way to streamline opening and closing lanes as to not have this happen because when people get punished for nice deeds like this we may be less keen on making them in the future. read more

There's other stores closer to my house, but this one has the best selection and prices, so I'm willing to go a little further. I've never had an issue with the service here, besides the lines being long occasionally, but I think that's to be expected. The cashiers are usually very friendly. bonus star because they have more police/fire carts at this location than any other major supermarket in the area, so when i'm with my 3-yr-old i'm very loyal to this store. it's always clean and well stocked, with store brands for practically everything. and close to target so you can stick to produce here and stay away from the pricy middle aisles of the store. can't wait for the new freeway entrances & exits in livermore that will make this location definitely more convenient than the tassajara one. read more

I go to this location out of convenience, but after having to return 2 items that were expired (should've double checked before purchasing) yesterday I purchased 12 wings from the deli for dinner. All I can say is, those were the worst tasting and overpriced wings ever! Couldn't even eat more than 2 and that ruined our dinner. read more

My fiancé and I came in tonight with hopes of getting king crab legs for dinner. We were really excited but when we got to the seafood section, they had already began closing (we came in a bit late). The very nice young man behind the counter said he had just put everything away. We were disappointed, but only for a second, because then guy offered to pull them back out for us! This is a great cesspool of highly unqualified employees, specifically at the Deli. The other employees haven not given me a hard time. I have been coming here for over 2 years now. And in the recent months things have significantly gone downhill in the deli department. My first stupid encounter was when I ordered a sandwich and the woman working the deli argued with me over bread, I specifically asked for Sourdough, and I did question her when I saw her using French Roll, and she said it was French Roll, of course when I leave Safeway and bite into my sandwich it's French Roll, not Sourdough, thanks! Second encounter was when I got some deli meat from the deli and it was DRY when I came home, that is still the employee's fault because they need to pay attention to the products they are selling me, do not sell me expired items, please! Third encounter again was relating to the deli meat, I asked for a lb of it and asked that they use a new package which so it would not be dry, which they did, but they started slicing it with the packaging on, the plastic saran wrap. Clearly they do not know what they are doing! Probably my last encounter occurred today ( I will looking for a different source for my deli meats). I came up to get some deli meat yet again, big mistake, see I keep giving them chances. There was no other customers, and it looked like there were 3 employees on the deli floor. So one of them said we'll be right with you, ok still waiting and a new customer comes up, and they take care of him, completely ignoring me! Are you kidding me? Now, I'm no hood rat, I come suited as I am coming for my 30 minute work lunch. And I do spend a decent amount of $ at the store, I still ended up buying a slab of filet mignon, because that was not related to the deli department. My experience at this Safeway is always good except for today. I wanted to get groceries done but I was also a bit hungry so I went to go get something at the deli cafe and the lady that was getting the food helped another lady before me. The lady before me was testing some samples and the lady serving her was putting her fingers on the sample. But after she had been touching the sample that someone else ate of of, she touched my food and put it in the bag without changing her gloves before she helped me. read more

I Prefer the Safeway across town but I go here because it's location. This store doesn't have self checkout and the express lanes are NEVER open. The cashiers are friendly but if your in a hurry way to chatty to get in and out quickly. Food: Limited organic/natural foods selection Service: The worst of any market I've been too Atmosphere: Cafe tables are always dirty. Piped in advertisements make me edgy. Value: Not worth it This is the worst grocery store I've ever patronized. It's right around the corner but I don't go there anymore unless I'm missing an ingredient for a recipe in progress. They're constantly moving things around because it keeps most people in the store longer and causes them to spend more money. My time is too valuable to spend an extra 20 minutes walking around the store looking for a can of tomatoes. Worst of all, they seem to think self-service check-out lanes are a valid substitute for actual service. You will rarely find a checkout lane with less than 2 people in front of you. Here's an example. I was finally at the checkout after an hour of searching for the things I wanted and another 10 minutes in line. The checker was nice at least, she made small talk with me while scanning coupons at the end of my order. She came across a coupon (from their own flyer) that wouldn't scan for the items I purchased. After we established that I had purchased a valid item for the coupon, she called over the manager. The manager was rude right off the bat. In fact she was ruder to the checker than she was to me. She snapped and spoke condescendingly. The checker politely pointed out that I had purchased the correct item. The manager then told the checker, not me, that I had to pay and then go get in the customer service line because they have had too many inline manager codes lately. Stupid me, I paid and then got in another line behind three other people at the "customer service" counter. I should have walked out and left my $175 cart full of food behind. Ten minutes later, lo and behold, guess who ended up refunding me the money from the coupon, the same "manager". So I said to her, "I think I know why it didn't scan. I bought this item, but it's in this older style box, so the system probably doesn't recognize it as the same item". Honest to god she had the gall the say, "Well you should have told me that before and I would have fixed it while you were in line." OMG, it took all I had not to . . . Well needless to say that's why I don't do my weekly shopping there anymore. read more

I would give it zero stars if I could. I only go there very early in the morning because of the very poor service. I was waiting in the self check and could not scan an item. no help! it turns out the checker was 5 feet away in the magazine section ignoring me. then she as rude and I left the item there even though I needed it for dinner.
