I used to really like this Safeway. They have some VERY nice employees. But also so very negative ones. Last month this one checker, was so annoyed that I had the audacity to ask for a back up checker, because she failed to notice that she had 6 people in her line (all with full cart). She was very defensive and when I tried to talk to her about it she became more defensive and then just downright nasty. I am going to grocery stores in Livermore who understand what descent customer means. I have not returned since the incident. They shouldn't hire people who hate people. Plenty of other nice people who need a job could easily fill their spot. read more

My wife orders Christmas dinner for 12 people 3 weeks ago and we go and show up to pick it up today surprise surprise the product that we have paid for will not be delivered to us because they're out of a number of items. The quote on quote store manager had no idea what was going on and could not resolve anything for us. And they wonder why they're losing customers. read more

The cashier that rang me up a few days ago was quite sick and had a severe coughing fit that lasted several minutes. She clearly did not want to be there and mentioned that she had been coughing all day. For some reason, management made her stay there, not caring about her health or the health of their customers. I was at this Safeway last week with a BOGO coupon for their new World Cuisine take out entrees. They are usually kept in the open refrigerated area at the front where the packaged sandwiches are. Anyway, on this particular day that area was empty. Come to find out the refrigeration unit broke down and all the food was being kept in the back where only employees can go. A very sweet Hispanic lady who works in the "salads behind the glass" section proceeded to bring each entree out to me so that I could decide what I wanted. Now how sweet is that? A little FYI from me: The more often you go to any store, and if you are friendly, it is more likely that you will be greeted with above and beyond kindness. read more

I went into Safeway early this morning and needed help finding a specific electrolyte drink and had the pleasure of meeting Nick. He wasn't exactly sure what isle it was on but he quickly ran up to the front and then was able to help me find it. Why oh why do I still come here?! The lines are atrocious. I've come in for ONE THING and spent ten minutes in the EXPRESS LINE. I've never seen more than five lines open. And what really irks me is seeing two managers (the older-middle aged guys in white dress shirts) standing in front of all the registers watching all the checkers! I'm sure they know how to use the check out machines. I prefer the Safeway across town. And need to go to that one more anyway because of the pharmacy and gas station. But this one is literally three minutes from our house. But that's just it. When my boyfriend and I are making dinner and need lettuce or a tomato, or whatever...it shouldn't take half an hour to get it. (three minute drive, two minutes to park, two minutes to produce dept, IDEALLY four minutes in line, four minutes back to car and drive home) it should take half the time (16 minutes)! The reason it's taking half an hour is because I'm waiting 15 minutes in line to buy one tomato! Oh, and the last thing I want after waiting in line for 10-15 minutes is to be bothered by some charity or homeless person that's hovering two feet from the front door. I live near this Safeway and am trying my best to avoid it. If I have to go to Safeway at all I will go to the one that is a 15 minute drive across town. The last several times I came to this particular location I find myself standing is a line that is unreasonably long. They usually only have two check stands open at any given time and it disgusts me that their prices are so high yet they can't hire a couple more people. In contrast, across town the Safeway is a much faster trip through the line. I think they had may as well close this one down. Trader Joe's is just one block away from this store, the prices are lower, and the stock is a great deal better quality. read more

Since its open 24 hours it means you can shop at midnight or other odd hour and likely much of a wait at the checkout. Great to restock your home alcohol stash to continue the party. Maybe you've got the midnight munchies. Their bakery has all the good stuff expected from Safeway and even donuts till late. So if you want some not so fresh donuts at midnight go for it. I like that they give us the options. Some Safeways seem to throw them away at 8pm or so. Tip: old fashion taste great even if not fresh from the fryer. Flower and gift section: may be larger than other stores. Large refrigerated section. Some of the professional arrangements are a bit expensive but still so much cheaper than if you go to a flower shop. Watch out though: some of the flowers looked a bit wilted. Don't give your girl wilted flowers. Thats a no no. As I left at 12:30am 1/7/17 some police officers were taking away some random guy in the parking lot to keep things safe. The choices were beyond control looking at 2 weeks out to get staple foods. They didn't let me know there was a problem for hours. My delivery was supposed to be between noon and 4pm. When I called around 8pm, I was told my order was canceled. Then, within minutes I got a call to say there was a problem with my card (don't know what it was!). We sorted that out and groceries finally arrived about 9:20pm. The Caesar salad that waited for the shrimp for all those hours had to be eaten plain since the only part of the shrimp that showed up was the 11.99 on the bill. I'm okay with giving a star instead of complaining that I'd want to give zero because both people on the phone were REALLY nice. Contacting Safeway to say the shrimp did not arrive got no response. I have to share that I'm extremely disappointed. Just visited this store and a lot of employees are not wearing gloves nor masks. I understand this is a stressful time, especially on the grocery stores, however the cashier and bagger (bagger not masked or gloved) were fully engaged on talking very poorly of another employee and whether they were ready to take a lunch. The bagger left mid-transaction to yell across the store, my partner and I finished bagging. She came back and scoffed a "sorry" and went on the keep talking to the cashier. I always come here because it's close to home and I feel like Safeway tends to have better options for produce than say Lucky's. I don't mind bagging my own groceries when there's no bagger around but I can't help but laugh when baggers show up to help after I've already done it myself. I've shopped at this location for several years and in the last six months, customer service has really gone downhill. What bothers me so much is the workers no longer acknowledge or greet the customer, it's almost like a ghost town. I spoke to the store manager to convey my feelings and confirmed that the store has had staffing shortages, leaving employees feeling overwhelmed and visibly unhappy. I miss the old Safeway customer service and I hope corporate improves staffing levels to bring back some life to this store and improve customer relations. read more

At 1554 first street is more than frustrating. They have had problems with their deli for 3 years now. They do not slice their meets to what you ask for. Spending $20 on lunch meat I would appreciate if it was sliced how i like it. They tell you their slicers can not make it shaved? They can sometimes and others they do not. It's common to wait 20 minutes is average for help. I understand if they are short handed once in a while but not every time! I can finish my entire shopping why my husband waits at the deli for one item. Their customer service is terrible and had been for a really long time. They also leave their products on the shelf weeks past due date. Everything I buy I have to check Best Buy dates since so much is past expectation dare listed. If I could give zero starts I would. Their bakery items are always dry and a waste of money. If I go to another Safeway location I do not have any issues but terrible since I'm 3 minutes away from this location. Forget about their "frequent flyer" card services. We have spent $$$$$$ in the past months and received NO BONUS POINTS for anything. The cashier receipt says thanks, but the web site shows NOTHING. Their "loyalty program" stinks. Go to Nob Hill... Let's face it, Albertson's does not care about customers. They never did in Northern California. honestly the worst safeway to get your sandwich made. The people are rude and the other half of them just ask what you want instead of asking in a polite way what they would like. Today i came in to get a sandwich made on my lunch time and the guy who made it nd who also was the same one who made my sandwich last time too , definetly made the most messy smallest sandwich with literally the smallest amounts of every ingredient i asked for. The turkey that was used looked like he just through it on there and gave me the smallest 2 strips of bacon he could find. When my sandwich is toasted , i dont get why my sandwich is still super cold inside after being put in the oven for 60 secs . and then put on another piece of parchment paper wrapped up and a sticker put on the same paper that wrapped my sandwich up that has all the food from my sandwich leaking through it which causes the sticker to not stick. Not to mention he just throws any sticker on it he can find near him at the time. So imagine i have some super small sandwich with barely anything in it and then a sticker on it that is a barcode for a Large Hot sandwich which came up for $14.99 , no way was i going to pay for no 2 inch sandwich for $14.99 .. oh helll noo . Please train your staff more especially in the hot foods/sandwich making areas. this is not the first time that this guy in particular made my sandwich and f**cked it up. I feel these people dont even know how to do anything and it sucks that i only have a 30 min lunch and hate to have to drive somewhere farther because these workers dont get trained or showed how to make a sandwich and to not hand it to the customer with no actual correct wrapping on it and the sticker is just hanging off. Please train your staff on what to do in their department or just move them out of this sandwich making department. sucks to have to come here and deal with the same issues everytime. The other person they have working in the sandwich area kept walking over and literally telling me the words, "im busy right now" and walking away to help someone else that was waiting on the deli side.. then came back 2 mins later and said "im still busy right now. Mind you , i never even said a word to the person neither time of them saying these words to me. If you want to be treated politely, I suggest you not go to Kim's line. The only reason I know her name is because it was on the receipt, she was not wearing a name tag. She is never very friendly, but today she decided I did not deserve to be spoken to or even treated nicely. When the cashier's bag the groceries, I try to put them in the cart for them. It seems she went out of her way to put them as far away from me as possible, and they were not light. I finally stopped doing it as she was not making it easy. At the end for some reason there was an issue, but again, not one word spoken to me all she did was go on the loudspeaker and say "override". I usually try to avoid her but today they were short staffed so I went to her. She gets her wish, I will not go to her again. I understand all businesses are having trouble keeping employees but she's one they could lose. read more

This Safeway lacks service and curtesy. My niece who is 18 years old and I went grocery shopping around 10:15 pm to meal prep for the rest of the week. We were in the Deli location, I was looking for stripped chicken for salads and I turn around because I heard groceries fall and I see my niece is on the floor and her groceries all over the floor out of her hand. I asked what happened, and she tells me she slipped. She gets up and I'm looking for what she slipped over and I'm looking hard and I see a large amount of grease all over the floor. I told the staff named Tammy who was in the deli area that whatever she was doing in the deli in that area she left grease all over the floor and she needs to clean the grease because my niece got hurt and we don't want anyone else getting hurt; her response was " oh, sorry..." it wasn't even a genuine apology. I later see her cleaning up the floor and speaking towards another person who works there and they were laughing. As my niece and I were checking out, I expected the manager to come and apologize to my niece because she fell and slipped really hard. I asked for the manager, who later happened to be the lady laughing with Tammy and I tell her what happened, she brings up if I want to file an incident report and of course we did. She mentioned more than once that they will check the camera, I said go ahead because there is Noway she could fake that fall and there's Noway she could have seen the grease on the floor unless you looked really hard. All her staff was giggling and laughing and very unprofessional. It makes me concerned that they don't care about the people who shop at their store, they don't care for their injury or offer service. They should get a new manager who can manage the store correctly at night, and also they should be cleaning up after themselves if they leave grease or a spill on the floor, especially if they're the ones who are responsible for the mess. My niece is a very good girl, even when she's hurt and in pain, she will say she's fine. She was literally limping out of the store read more

I'm rating this on just the experience I had today. Came in, I had to do a return and a purchase. I waited in line - found out I have to do it at "Customer Service", which I did not know. So, I get up to the desk, the lady explains to him what my purchase is. He did not say "Hi, how are you?" - or anything of the sort. He tells me one sec. I waited - and he asks me again what I need to do. He did not ask me if I purchased the items in credit, debit or cash. So, on the little screen it tells me to slide my card, (he still never said a word) - and I did so. He mentions something about cash. And I said "Oh, you're giving me cash back?" - with a confused look on my face. Knowingly that I'm not suppose to get cash back on a return when I bought the items with a credit card. He rolls his eyes at me, huffed and puffed. No smile - no sorry. He calls someone on the phone, slammed the phone down - hit some keys. Rolls his eyes again, and picks up the phone. I never thought to yelp a grocery store. Until I realized how ridiculous my shopping practice is. I usually go to Trader Joes, then Safeway. Only I always skip downtown Safeway, and go all the way across town to the Safeway by 580. Why? Well, the selection at the downtown Safeway isn't as good as the Safeway by 580. But what's worse is there's a female checker who works there. She is so rude that if I had ever realized I was in her lane, I would pack up and go to a different lane. I don't remember her name, but always noticed she had a brace on. So I tried to be understanding and assume she just had a lot of pain, so that's why she was so grumpy. Then when I've been in other lanes she still seems to stare, and glare at me. I don't know if she's just unaware, or if she just does that to everyone, but it has made me so uncomfortable I refuse to even go in! I recognize this is kind of strange, but at the same time, I rather shop somewhere where I don't feel like I have daggers staring into my soul. read more

I like going to Safeway but not this one. I use to live in Pleasanton and would go to the Safeway off of Bernal, which was a lot cleaner and carried fresher fruits and veggies. But since living in Livermore I live blocks from this one. 3 times out or 4 visits the fruits and some veggies are gross or obviously unfresh. We were in attendance at a party up the street from this Safeway on the Saturday before the 4th of July. The hostess realized she needed some Greek yogurt and some sour cream, and my husband volunteered to go pick some up for her. He is a nice guy. Much nicer than me because I would have never volunteered to leave a party with so much delicious FOOD everywhere! ;) We were also asked to grab some ice - it was HOT - and the supply had completely melted in the outdoor coolers. Our navigation actually told us to go to another Safeway but we saw this one first and stopped here. I don't do a lot of Greek yogurt shopping but I was really surprised that for Plain, Greek yogurt there was only one choice we could find. There were several fat free plains, and several plains with flavors, but only one of the type we needed, and the small container was $5.99! What?! The fat free versions were much less expensive but we didn't need those, so no help. The sour cream was on sale and was a standard size for $2 after $0.70 discount. At the register we asked for ice. We were told they had one, ripped bag left. Not a problem. Upon going to check for us, the bagger discovered it was gone. We were glad they checked first. Friendly cashier. Two friendly baggers. The lines weren't long and the store was clean. Thanks to it being well-organized, we were in and out and back to the party in no time. Let the consumption of good party food resume! read more

This store used to be nice, and well stocked. New management or something changed. Some cashiers are very professional while two females are downright rude and unprofessional. Talking about employees, rolling eyes, yelling at workers in front of shoppers.This woman in particular I guess is the front end manager. Dark haired woman with freckles. The other is african american w/ Jerry Lewis glasses and she was having a bad day and was so rude I wanted to slap her. Just to remind her that it was not the shoppers fault. The plus side is they hired a young man with down syndrome as a bagger. As you leave the store he will cause you to leave with a smile. Never enough checkers, produce is horrible, food left on shelves far beyond the expiration date and when asked if I knew the price of 1 of my produce items, and after I told the checker the price, she didn't believe me so had me wait while a price check was done. I would rather go hungry than come to this bad mood inducing place. There are so many deficiencies but, I shall start with the one that made me lose my appetite. I didn't realize that there are no employees on the floor until I noticed a suspicious semi-solid substance on the floor that was spread about by shoes and the wheels from carts. I'm not saying it was dodo but, I am saying it looked close enough to it that someone who works there should have taken care of it. Unnecessary lines suck all happiness from my soul. We've used pickup several times. The last time was not pleasing. The oatmeal cookies were hard and one day short of out of date. I asked for dried basil. Nope. Each time I've asked for buns I get Signature instead of Ball Park as I asked for. The substitutions are questionable. This Safeway is awful. At least, that's my experience. Apparently my parents have shopped here for years and they are uber kind and helpful to them. Apparently that's the trick. If they know you they're nice. If not they are soooo freaking rude! Bad business practice if you ask me! I live in walking distance of this Safeway but never, ever go there anymore if I can at all avoid it. Every time I have gone there the lines are crazy long, if I ask for help with something, no one helps me or is rude. When I greet my cashier I am either ignored (they are almost always gossiping amongst themselves about co-workers, or CUSTOMERS or talking about their weekend plans) I am SERIOUS. The cashiers literally ignore me while they ring me up and just talk amongst themselves. Or they might once in a while flash me a very false smile and mutter a "hi" before they go back to gossiping amongst themselves. I try not to go there because every time I have I leave feeling annoyed and thinking, "WHY did I spend my hard earned money THERE?!?!?!?!?!" I prefer the Sunday Farmers Market in Livermore, the butcher in Pleasanton, and Trader Joe's for all my grocery needs. read more

Another disappointing experience with checkout service here. Saturday 10:30 am. Self check, both express lanes open and only one regular lane open with **seven** people in line. I politely tell cashier "Bob" the line is very long and his response is "no more cashiers to call up". Where I wasn't happy, I accepted his response. Several minutes later I hear a request for cashiers over the intercom. Within a minute- another cashier is there to help out. So what gives? Is this the result of management directing cashiers not to call for assistance? Or is this fellow just having a bad day? Management- You really need to correct this issue as it is a common occurrence. read more
