I shop at this Safeway because it fits most of my needs, and it's 24 hours. However for some reason this Safeway doesn't carry any Cajun foods. I went in looking to make jambalaya but couldn't find it in any aisle. I walked up to an employee and asked if they carried any jambalaya he looked at me, and literally ran away back to the register he was trying to get away from. On top of that, on google it says they are open 24 hours, I show up last night and they are closed! No sign posted or anything, total waste of space! read more

As a woman I am not safe in this Store. I have shopped successfully all my life without incident. Yet this morning was the 3rd time I was either physically or verbally assaulted by a man in that store. Management does nothing. I wont be going back. I used to go to Safeway for all my shopping when we were in Sunnyvale; then we moved Los Gatos, and I started going to Los Gatos Safeway. After a few trips, I switched to Trader Joe's in Campbell even though it is farther to my house. The main reason is that almost all sales people on the floor have attitude problem. I approach someone on the floor to ask a question with a smile on my face, I either get a cold shoulder with a short answer, or no answer at all! Guys! A little smile with correct attitude goes a long way. Trader Joe's is just the opposite: you get full attention of the person working on the floor with the right attitude and a "big smile"! read more

This Safeway is really disappointing and has gotten worse over the years that I have shopped there. Customer service is downright awful and the few times I ventured to ask for assistance, the customer service person is incredibly condescending. I've observed the same behavior with other shoppers. I have Celiac disease, and the gluten-free products in the store have significantly decreased and the best products have been discontinued. This forces me to shop elsewhere. I want to also note the number of times I have had to return to the store with bad chicken and other proteins with future expiration dates. Packaged salads, fruits and vegetables go bad very quickly. Who is the manager of this store because they never seem to be there when I am there? read more

Decent experiences so far shopping at this particular store. Usually plenty of parking, and nice location as well. Employees here are usually friendly, and can check out quickly using self checkout as well. Never had any issues with this store, and will come back here for my grocery shopping needs. I just had the most refreshing and kind service at the Deli from Michael! He really helped make a special treat for my Dad who is not well extra special. He went above and beyond and was trying to be uplifting. That's gold star customer service and plain just being a great human being. He was engaging and said all the nice greetings authentically and with real interest in the other party's day/experience. What a blessing to have crossed his path today. I am taking the time to shout it out so that his Mgr knows they have a great employee . I already liked this store, and this guy makes it way better, because you can see it's his nature to be kind to others (I watched him do it for several customers before I got to Deli counter. ) and a million points for using clean gloves and excellent kitchen cleanliness with superior OSHA compliance (I very much notice these things). Don't bother with the fish counter, which always smells too fishy, but then when the meat counter guy tells you he will be there as soon as he is done with a customer don't believe him. I just waited for five minutes after the customer left the meat department. When I told the cashier do you think he called the manager? Of course not, then when I asked to speak to the manger the cashier gave me a little smile and said oh he is right there behind you. The manager was at the next register. Now when a customer tells you that they are upset, I would think that as a manager he would try to ask what can I do to make things better! Overall good experience. Went a couple days ago and was able to find everything I needed. The cashier was very sweet(I think their name was Shepherd)and the customer service was great. I could tell the store was understaffed as the line was pretty long and only one register was open, but that's very understandable. I went again today and the lines weren't nearly as bad so it was likely just circumstance. read more

I have been shopping at this Safeway for about 15 years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic I have been shopping for my elderly mother and my wife's parents. I appreciate that they have been disinfecting the shopping carts and have one way isles in the store. The have a sign at the entrance asking customers to wear masks to help prevent the spread of the virus which I always do. The last few times I shopped I noticed multiple employees not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly. The man stocking meats didn't have one on and seemed to have a cough which made me uncomfortable. I plan on going back this weekend. If I observe this again, I will find another store to shop at from now on. I was there again this past Saturday morning and 3 employees were not wearing masks and the cashier had one on but it was not covering his nose. Sorry Safeway, I feel you are putting your customers in harms way. I'm done. Good thing we have other options! read more

It is the week before Christmas. In fact, Christmas Day is just three days away. This store has two registers running.... one of the two is a fifteen item limit register. Seriously? You can't staff your store better? Having minimal registers open is a common thing here at this store. However, you would think that with the holiday they would have received extra labor hours to account for the influx of shoppers getting ready for the holiday. This company obviously only pays out what it absolutely has to. Update: I came here because the other Safeway in town only had two registers open and Express shut down. The lines were ridiculous. So, I came here in hopes that this management allocated their labor properly and didn't have their heads too far up their asses. Wrong. I walked out of both Safeway's tonight. I hope management enjoys their bonus checks. You sure save do save some money by cutting labor. read more

This store is a high employee turn-over machine. Everytime I shop here there is a new employee (especially at the checkstand) and they are terrible. The store manager (director) Nick will have a discussion from corporate on the loss prevention, high store turnover, failing service compliance, and rude behavior of employees, not to mention margins. On one hand, the place is pretty empty at times unlike other Safeway locations. The problem is that often you can't find much selection or they're low on products ranging from yogurt to produce. The other thing that irks me about this location is that whenever it's prime time (weekends), they don't have the required staff to handle the customers so you end up waiting in line by the frozen section aisle b/c it's so backed up. That annoys the crap out of me. There used to be an extremely rude biznatch in the deli section but I think she either not fired or moved on, so that's a bonus. Don't expect top notch anything at this place. It will meet your basic needs. read more

Came here looking for a cake for Thanksgiving dessert. They had a grasshopper cake that got me excited, but when I tasted a bit, it wasn't nearly minty enough. The service in their deli and bakery area was top notch though! I was helped promptly and very politely. I appreciated that they kept their cool even though there were lots of crowds and harried shoppers freaking out about last minute Thanksgiving grocery gathering. They run the same specials that all Safeway stores do, so you can get some really cheap things if you plan your trip right. read more

I have been going to this location for awhile now, operating under the misassumption that all Safeways were created equal. WRONG. After trying out a couple other locations in the Campbell/Los Gatos area, I have a newfound appreciation for this Union Avenue spot. Finding parking is fairly easy. The food on the shelves is NEVER expired. The produce is always fresh. The employees are friendly. The lines move quickly, and the bakery rocks with custom orders. this is a decent safeway - still debating if they are 3 star or 4. i used to always go to the one on branham, but sad to say the san jose bag ordinace drove to make this one my go-to store. if i need to make a quick stop and don't have bags, it's just easier. parking is rarely a problem. the store is relatively easy to get around and find stuff. pretty standard layout. i don't often find them out of stock of anything on shelves (only at the sandwich counter). deli: 2 star. there are almost always quite a few people "working" the deli. now don't get confused and think that means they're going to help you. no, they ignore as long as possible. trying to get a sandwich made can be a rather painful experience - slow, and they are frequently out of things. i went a couple weeks ago and they had to go look for bread, only to come back and discover they were out of the sauce. all in all, wasted a good 5+ minutes to end up with nothing. produce: pretty good. usually seems fairly fresh, good quality. bakery: 4-5 stars. ok, it's safeway, so you'd think they're all the same. not so! some are better than others. this one is pretty good. i've gotten a few cakes here, and they do a great job with the decorating. cakes always taste fresh. and the fresh french bread... mmmmm meat: watch the expiration dates. i say that about all safeway stores. they frequently have meat with a sell by of same or next day. at this particular store, i've found meat past the sell date. checkout: 2 star. they rarely have enough lanes open, checkers aren't the fastest. i prefer self-checkout when i don't have a lot. though even if i do, if lines are bad, it's still faster to do it myself. read more

After reaching out to the manager and Safeway HQ, nothing has improved at this store. In fact, Safeway HQ never responded to me at all. This location still has many items out of stock and produce past it expiration date. Safeway delivery is terrible! My wife & I are disabled and require home delivery. Safeway is either late or no shows frequently. Then the customer service can't correct the problem. The last three years using them has been an issue on every delivery. Safeway driver delayed getting out on route. Your order may be delayed between 30 and 45 minutes past end of your window. Please text or call if needing to reschedule or cancel. Sorry for the inconvenience. Lastto driver who is currently 1 1/2 late! Sending a copy of these texts to Safeway Corporate offices. Your performance really sucks. I guess you don't want the job. Dairy products melt in this heat which means there will be a lot thrown away! The driver claimed delivery and Safeway refused to credit my account. So I had back decline payment. Safeway closed my account, so off to Wa Tried Walmart & Amizon Prime. It may look old from the outside but it's been through the Safeway remodel that seems to be going across the chain the last few years. This place is huge too. It you look really closely besides the regular fare, you can find some weird items. Seafood salad from Belgium? Weird ass frozen items. A pizza making kit? I agree completely with the previous review. While I would still go to Lunardi's or Costentino's for the fresher meats or fish, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this Safeway. It's probably the nicest I've come across. It's also a great place to go when you have no idea what you want for lunch. Their deli and soup station is adequate and I don't know how many times I've been seen wandering the aisles with a blank expression on my face, wondering what I am going to eat for lunch. One of my favorite Safeways. Decent wine and "foodie" selection, and the produce was above average "for a Safeway", meaning that the produce is great for the price you pay for them (especially when they're on sale). But it's no Lunardi's or Cosentino's. Significant organic and vegetarian selections as well. Butcher and seafood departments were very friendly, remember to ring them for any specialty cuts in case you don't see what you are looking for in the display cases. Don't be shy, just because it's not in the display case doesn't mean that they won't track it down for you. They can and will gladly slice thin veal medallions or sell you a whole beef tenderloin. Has a full Wells Fargo bank inside of Safeway as well as Wells Fargo ATMs. Never had a bad experience shopping at this Safeway, although some of the shelves and produce get bare before and after holidays. During the school year, try to time your shopping before or after 3PM. Union High School is only a couple of blocks away and the Safeway parking lot is regularly abused by parents picking up their kids. read more

Not bad of a grocery store. Definitely convenient and with a decent size parking lot. Close to where my mother resides. I bought her a delicious turkey and cheese sandwich one day. It was ready in minutes and it hardly hurt my wallet! It was mouth-watering and my mother enjoyed every bite! Plus, like at a Togo's, one could choose what he/she wanted on it and it was all chalked full of healthy nutrients! Wide range of products. Clean floors. I have purchased chicken from here before with no problems so when I bought a rotisserie chicken, I was surprised to find that: 1) It was already a day old 2) It was overcooked and tough like a leather shoe. I called the customer service to complain. This is an establishment that should watch out for the quality of their food. If it is overcooked and flavorless to the point of making someone gag, it should not be served to anyone. The person who answered my phone did not offer to remedy the situation. One star is a gift... there are never enough checkers to check you out and that said to get assistance is impossible.Not enough help... still pallets in the aisles as late as 8AM... open 24 hours is a joke... I walked around the store looking for a checker to check me out at 4:30 AM for 20 minutes.... with dismissive employees sending me on a wild goose chase finding the mythical checker! Some of the people at this store are wonderful, but the management sucks. The have five star awesome bakery... a great wine selection... but to navigate through the backup in the checkout lane... is ridiculous... We live in between the Union Safeway and the Almaden Safeway. Out of the 2 this is our favorite. It doesn't have the Starbucks which is a drag but it does have a great selection of Organic foods which is very important to us. The produce selection is also very good. It is a fairly new remodel so it has a lot of the Lifestyle store elements to it. It is clean and tidy. The staff is always very friendly. It has a very neighborly feel to it. It doesn't feel as busy and crowded as the Almaden one. The bathrooms unfortunately aren't the best. They are a bit stinky. read more

This is one of the better Safeway stores I have been to (especially when I compare it to the Safeway on Winchester and Payne...ugh). The store is well stocked and the deli is decent. The produce section is a hit or miss, depending on the day. The soups and salads are good. The checkout staff is polite, but somewhat lazy in my opinion. Often times I have had to wait in long lines (because they refuse to open an extra checkout lane, even though I see employees standing around chatting) or have had to bag my own groceries (Little Miss High Maintenance wanted to take a break). Also, they close the self checkout counters at night, which is extremely annoying. Overall, a decent neighborhood grocery store, but they could definitely improve the checkout experience. read more

Normally, I wouldn't find yelping about a grocery necessary because I feel like I could spend my time better finding other places. However, this place deserves recognition I think. The parking lot here can be annoying at times but I have never had a time where I couldn't actually ind a spot. Shout out to the cute "rocker"(ish) looking checker guy. He's always friendly and nice. Meow. Hahaha Actually I sympathize with his pain. He is working 24/7 it seems like. When I worked in grocery, I did the same. This Safeway is definitely cleaner then one's nearby. For the most part, they are usually always stocked with whatever it is you need. As far as customer service goes, the I've found the manager of this place and the produce guys to be fantastic. Deli area has a general selection. However, like most grocery deli's, they are over worked and under staffed. So, it causes confusion and a generally slow down to getting service. I had a pannini from here today with some fruit. The pannini wasn't bad but needed a kick in my opinion. If you look around on end caps and also during the week, you can find some great hidden gems at this place. Meat markdowns can be amazing deals at times. Overall, I have come to know this place very well as my bf is just around the corner from here. I like it because it's reliable but it could use a face lift or two and it is becoming slightly older looking. read more

Okay, this is a review of this particular Safeway's new sushi rolls. Call me crazy, but I'm loving the new sushi my local Safeways are stocking! They really stepped up their game. The salmon-crab-mango roll is my favorite here. I treat myself to one about once a week. At $9 a pop they're pricey for lunch (compared to a $3.50 Subway sandwich) and since the Safeway by my office is under construction I have to drive a good 10 minutes to get my fix. But on those days I'm craving sushi and don't have time to wait for a to-go order or battle parking in downtown Los Gatos, it's worth it. I also have a Lunardis, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Nob Hill within a 2-minute radius of my office but this Safeway sushi is just that superior. One roll is plenty for me and it's rather healthy -- at least, healthier than some of the rolls they carry! Tried another beauty awhile back but it was a little too mayo-based for me with the crab/mayo and avocado filling and the creamy drizzle on top. I also like that these rolls are all made fresh. You can place your order with the (very friendly!) sushi chef behind the sushi counter and go about picking up the rest of your groceries while your rolls are being prepared. Or, do what I do and pick out the best looking rolls that are already packaged and ready to go. Damn, I love living in California. You don't understand that it is a miracle I even like sushi after growing up with the "sushi" I had available in Washington! read more
