Don't come here hungry... I was first introduced to this place by a friend that was raving about their marinaded meat section. It was delicious. Great for BBQs or just a weeknight dinner. THEN, I started purchasing my produce here, which I think they have a vibrant selection of fruits and vegetables at a reasonable price. THEN, one day I came here on and empty stomach, bought all of the above, ended up with a Christmas prime rib, and a hot sandwich because I was starving. To top it all off, all the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. I should go back sometime soon.

Perfect pit stop before or after some local wine tasting. I stopped here after a full day of wine tasting and needed some lunch. I decided to go with a deli sandwich, a large bag of chips, a bubbly water, and I could not pass up a dessert. Prices are fair and service is quick. There are plenty of hot items in the food bar that you can grab and go. There are a decent amount of seats outside, however, it got fairly packed when I was visiting.

Really nice gem of a store with great selection. Expiration dates could use some attention, especially for fresh items. Great sandwiches

They are much hyped for monstrous, incredibly layered over-the-top sandwiches with proprietary, house-made marinades, jerky varieties, and custom-smoked meats. Which may explain the lines, long waits, and lack of tables, not in a complainy way. Surprised at myself for not going earlier (the constant Instragram reels adding up), I had to go before I ended my tenth year in San Jose. I got the gutbusting Quad (pastrami, pulled pork, tri-tip, bacon, on a fresh Dutch Crunch). It was too big to eat as a sandwich- it was something you had to manage and attack. Truth is, I couldn't detect the pastrami because it was slathered in tender, lean, bbq meat, nor could I detect the bacon until the sandwich "thinned out" to normal human consumption size, meaning that I ate the meat out through the edges or the contents fell out. It's call quad because you need four napkins per bite.

Both were yummy. When I revisit I'm going to ask for light bbq sauce. My son and I enjoyed our sandwiches but we both commented that they were sauce heavy and lighter spread would've exposed more flavor from the meat. Service was helpful and quick. We were attended to within seconds of arriving. They also have a great selection of smoked sausages and meats. Worth checking out before your next backyard bbq.

Recently we came back…read moretwice, once on Sunday as I forgot that the paella was a Friday thing, so the staff told me that they usually have paella and clam chowder freshly cooked on Friday. They happened to have a small tub of Friday clam chowder left for sale, for a whopping $16! That price dropped my rating to a 4 star. Service is still 5, but man, the value proposition isn't as high as before. The clam chowder tasted good, creamy and all, but $16 for that is really hard to swallow. The store itself is clean and sells a variety of meat products and imported goods such as from Italy. We came again on Friday evening, at 5pm exact and saw the paella pan laid outside with some amount of paella piled up. The pan felt cold and we were confused if they haven't started cooking or those were the left over. So we went inside to ask and they said the paella was available starting at 5pm, so what's on the pan was cooked. We bought 1 portion, which feeds 2-3 and it came in two 16 oz tubs. For $35, it fed my husband and myself just right. The smoky flavor was on the rice with meat and lots of clams and mussels (but not those fatty mussels that you saw in the Belgium style dish). $35 for dinner of two is not as bad value as the $16 bowl of chowder. So overall, 3.5-4 stars for food and value, 5 stars for service and friendliness.

We've been coming here dozens of times over the years, and it never disappoints. We stopped by today for takeout and got his go-to, the Godfather, along with a turkey sandwich and a mortadella sandwich. All three were fantastic, as always. The Godfather is loaded with premium Molinari meats -- coppa, mortadella, prosciutto, and salami -- plus provolone, lettuce, onion, pepperoncini, and artichoke hearts, all tied together with oil and vinegar. It's a hefty, flavorful sandwich that lives up to its name. The turkey is their own oven-roasted recipe with a real homemade, Thanksgiving-day taste, and the mortadella was rich and satisfying too. What I love about this place is how much personality it has. The walls are covered in sports memorabilia and Godfather movie posters, cured meats hang from the ceiling, and the whole vibe just feels old-school and authentic -- like a deli that's been doing this for decades, because it has. The American Italian Deli was actually founded back in 1956 in downtown Los Altos, and this Los Gatos location opened in 2015 on Elm Street. They lean hard into the Godfather theme too, with lines like "we're gonna make you a sandwich you can't refuse" -- it's a fun touch that fits the whole personality of the place. Staff are always friendly, no-nonsense, and know the menu inside and out. Bread is delivered fresh daily from San Francisco, and you can tell the quality of the ingredients throughout every bite. Only small hiccup today: I tried to purchase a gift card and wasn't able to get it to work. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but wanted to note it in case others run into the same issue. Overall, this is a Los Gatos institution for a reason. If you haven't tried the Godfather yet, you're missing out!

This location is parked in a large plaza with plenty of parking. You can order online pretty easily with a straightforward ordering system. Our 2 sandwiches took about 10 minutes. Spicy turkey - For a $15 price tag, I expected more than two thin slices of turkey. The amount of meat provided threw the whole meat to bread ratio off. The spicy turkey was good but it just needed more of it because as it, all I tasted was bread. The mustard and house sauce also wasn't enough in quantity so the whole sandwich tasted very one dimensional and bland. This location was a huge letdown. I think I'll stick to the San Jose location.
