White baby's breath, purple poms, and leather leaf ferns from Safeway Mililani
    Lehuanui W.

My family likes shopping at this Safeway because it's usually pretty mellow (except for the $5 Fridays-as expected) and we always get quality products: meats, produce, etc. The store is clean and bright. The shelves are normally very well stocked. All of the staff is super patient, friendly, and helpful which is great for a large family with young kids. However, today's visit was probably the exception to the norm. I purchased some flowers and ferns (for a lei I was planning on making) from the Floral dept which was well stocked. When I got home, the baby's breath that I purchased ($8.99) was already turning brown at the bottoms. I wouldn't have seen it there because the parts that were brown was in the inside and was only noticeable when pulling it apart. I was so sad, but I made it work by spray painting it. So nothing was wasted, but just words of advice to check the bunches well and there's no shame in taking it over to the workers to have them open the bunches to double check the freshness of it ESPECIALLY if it is for lei! Which reminds me... $29.99 for a crown flower lei?! Dang!!!

Safeway is the anchor tenant for Mililani Marketplace. Situated on Mehe'ula Parkway. I think Safeway and the shopping center have been here around 12 years. It is one of the smaller Safeways but it still brings grocery chain consistency and convenience. And they are open on Christmas Day. They have four self-checkout stalls and on this Christmas morning, they were fairly busy. Parking lot has plenty of stalls.

Safeway is the only national grocery store that has made a space for themselves in Hawaii. (Whole Foods does not count as a regular grocery store!) The chain has opened a few fancy new stores here on Oahu, but this particular location has a decades long history in the community it serves. It's almost a given that you will become familiar with your fellow shoppers here, and there's a good chance that they have been your close neighbors all along. The prices are often higher than in other stores, but they also carry a few things that are harder to find, so if you have a taste for a non local flavor, Safeway is a great place to check. They have a really nice app, so is very easy to navigate through the sales and coupons. Make sure to check out the Friday deals, as there are often amazing bargains.

Shopping in Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii... Since I was already at Mililani Marketplace, I thought that I should take a look at Safeway. I didn't really need anything, but the air-conditioning sure felt wonderful! I appreciated the clean, organized environment. I especially liked the fresh flowers at the front of the store. In the back, I scanned the Clearance items... hmmm... good deals, but nothing really popped out. The workers are friendly and helpful. I asked one employee if there was a restroom... Yes! Go down aisle 3, enter the swinging doors, and turn left! Thank you!

    Sounds yummy

Safeway shopping... We all have our favorite spots to find the usual items we crave and are found in the convenience of our supermarket and Safeway is one of mine. This location is in the Mililani Marketplace one of the smaller shopping center and this location does seem a bit dated but is kept very clean and organized. Staff here is friendly as they greeted me when I walked in and browsed around to see the usual poke our local favorite and many grab and go treats and meals. Since I was in the area I was looking for a few specific items and know that they do have it here and decided to browse which is always fun since they do carry some usual and limited items as well and sort of found it and proceeded to the self check out and was delighted to see that someone forgot their change and another thing I do love about Safeway...they always have restrooms for us to use as well. Thank you!

I enjoy shopping Safeway because you can always find good deals. I just missed $5 Fridays. Today, meats were on sale. Various Mother's Day flower bouquets & Desserts as well. It's always clean and organized. You'll always see someone stocking up the shelves. More importantly, the staff here is always friendly. Only downside is since they've opened the self checkouts, there's never enough registers open. If you're in a rush- patience is a virtue. Happy Shopping

Looking for...FLOWERS? No need to find a florist, just head on over to your friendly neighborhood SAFEWAY! Yes, folks...I'm talking about a grocery store that has a quality FLORIST! You will find beautiful flowers at a REASONABLE PRICE,. They have a variety of FLOWERS . Just to name a few...Roses, Daisies, Mum's, Sunflowers, Hydrangeas, Baby's Breath, Tropical, Lilies, Spring mixes, Leis, Haku leis, Floral arrangements, Potted plants and so much more. If you go on a Friday, usually there is a $5 special on a small bouquet of flowers. Now, that is a pretty GOOD DEAL ! I'm here almost every other Friday picking up flowers. Lol. Not only does Safeway have a nice selection of flowers, they also have awesome SERVICE! Their florist will take the time to assist you in anyway that they can. If they can't assist you, they will seek help from another location of theirs. Whenever I have questions or need assistance, I always receive EXCELLENT CARE! On one particular occasion, I went to Safeway to purchase flowers to make a haku lei for my daughter's luau. I asked... Dhar...the florist for some suggestions on flowers to use for the haku lei. He was willing to spend a good amount of time with me. I selected a bunch of flowers before I asked him for help and he told me to put those back. He mentioned that the bunch wouldn't last on a haku lei. Thank goodness for him. Lol, I put those back and picked up mini pink carnations and baby's breath. I told Dhar that my daughter's clothes was blue and white. He suggested getting mini white carnations and he would spray paint the flowers blue for no additional charge. Unfortunately, he didn't have any at his store. Therefore, he called the Waikele store to see if they had any. Yes, they did and they would put it on hold for me. After he made the call, I decided not to do that and so I kept the pink mini carnations. I thanked Dhar for his help and I went on my way. Later that evening, my daughter mentioned that she was hoping for flowers that would match clothes. She was okay with the pink carnations, but I know in my heart that she wasn't as happy. I wanted my daughter to be happy with the haku lei that I would make for her. Therefore, I called the Waikele Safeway and spoke to Karen to see if they still had the white mini carnations. They had one bunch left, and so she saved it for me. The floral manager...Leila ( I think this is her name ?) okayed me to return the pink carnations for an even exchange for the white carnations. In the end, I made the haku lei with the white carnations, baby's breath and some greenery from a friend's yard. Everything worked out well, and the haku lei turned out...BEAUTIFUL and my daughter was so...HAPPY! A BEAUTIFUL HAKU LEI + a HAPPY DAUGHTER = HAPPY MOM! Mahalo nui loa...Dhar, Karen, Leila and Safeway for all that you did for me! I couldn't have asked for a better florist and outstanding team of florists! Cheehou! So, if you are looking for a variety and quality flowers at a reasonable price, check out SAFEWAY, You'll thank me for that!

I love going to Safeway to shop for grocery items when they have a sale on certain items. Hubby stocks up.on sodas when they have buy two get three free or something like that. I like picking up snacks and random items. This location was clean and items were easy to find. Most Safeways have the bakery section where you can order cakes in advance and a food section where you can get chicken with sides or sandwiches made fresh. I definitely like that. They have ads that come out every week so check out to see what they have. For every member, they give out a free item. You just have to click on every item on your app to get the deals. I definitely will be back again. Highly recommend if you're going grocery shopping.

This is the type of food I received on my plate lunch. The hot pocket and corn dog was over cook and hard.

This was over cook and hard and I had already left the town of mililani . It was such a disappointment and waste of money

The only spot I know that has strawberry cheesecake ice cream! & rocky road for my other personality...

Every day of my trip, I have walked to foodland and had their poke. They have a wide variety of fresh, well seasoned fish. I also love how you can pick your portions and pay at that rate. You can even customize your own poke bowl with rice and your choice of fish! For me, I am a huge fan of their limu tako and fresh salmon poke! I always walk out with a quarter pound of each and it usually only costs 8-10 dollars, which is a great deal for the quality and freshness of their poke! My favorite has to be their fresh salmon poke though, since it is always so fresh, smooth, and has incredible seasoning. The seasoning is a nutty, shoyu seasoning with soy soaked onions and green onion garnish! Simple, but excellent. Another honorable mention would be there wafu ahi poke. It's a new item they have; it's seared ahi but with a smoky, steak-teriyaki flavor. It's something new and bold, but executed flawlessly! Along with their poke, they also have plenty of other great picnic snacks, like their hot lunch plates and spam musubis. You can walk away with a whole meal for your fam with just one stop! The workers are also incredibly friendly and patient. They always have a great sense of humor and are always happy to help! They even give small samples if you ask! They have your typical grocery items that you would find anywhere else, however what I think makes them extra special is all their ready-to-eat meals. They have some amazing hot meals for you to choose from, as well as family platters. However, they are very popular for their affordable poke which I think is stellar. Especially considering that you would probably pay 5x more at any restaurant in Waikiki. During my time in Oahu, we made multiple trips to this location and always made sure to get a pound of poke. We also got some of the Foodland chips, which paired great with their poke. Also, I highly recommend getting their Foodland card which can get you some discounts on your purchase.

I always get the smoke meat with pickled onion on rice. The smoked meat has plenty smoked taste, just enough fat, and it's not tough (you know what I mean).  The pickled onion is the perfect compliment!   Love the bite and the vinegar taste -- cuts though and brings it all together!   They give you quite a bit in the bowl.  Definitely enough to make me smile!    Again ---- $6.00!!!!! Thursday is another winner in my book.   It's noodle day!!!  I used to get the Mega which had everything in it.   It was a special that they had at the beginning but it's been discontinued.  I think the only one I'm not too crazy about is the curry.   I know some like it -- but having watery curry with noodles is just not me.   The rest are pretty good.   They warm up the noodles right there and add all the goodies on top.  It's take out so they give you the hot broth in another container ---- perfect so your noodles don't get soggy!   I think it's a great 'buy and eat later' meal! I think the only negative is that sometimes the parking lot is very, very full.  If you go early it's not too bad.    The rest of the days they have kalua pig burrito, nachos, and the $6/lb food bar Friday.   With all the prices on everything going UP, UP, UP, it's so nice that we can have a good and satisfying meal for $6.00.    Thank you Foodland -- Food, Family, and Friends!!!

I ended up stopping at Don Quijote to see what they had in the prepared-food section. I saw the katsu curry and figured it was chicken, so I grabbed it without really paying attention to the label. I got back to my car, started eating, and pretty quickly realized, "Wait, this doesn't taste like chicken." Then it hit me--it was pork katsu. I have to be careful with pork because it can trigger a gout attack for me, so obviously this was not what I was hoping for. But I was hungry, had already bought it, and figured I wasn't going to return a prepared meal, so I ate it anyway. That said, the food itself was actually pretty good. My issue is more with the labeling. If something is simply called "katsu," you may not necessarily know what kind of meat you're getting. I think it would be helpful if the prepared foods were clearly labeled as chicken katsu, pork katsu, etc., because there are people who can't or don't eat certain types of meat. So overall, the katsu curry was pretty good--but buyer beware. Pay attention to exactly what you're buying, because you might not get what you assumed you were getting.
