Saw mold on the donuts!!! I used to buy donuts here regularly for my Son. Today I bought a glazed donut. Before giving it to my Son, I luckily checked the back side of it. I was shocked to see green mold spots. I returned it and I let the customer service representative know that I was disappointed. She said she was disappointed too. Since I promised my Son, I had to buy another one (He is not going to eat it. I just didn't want to ruin his tiny optimistic world ). It was hard to find one without mold. I am very disappointed. Would have preferred 1/2 star rating option. Stock, prices and service is OK, but just OK and unfortunately more often unsatisfactory and less than OK. Checkers are often rude, demanding and unhappy. Don't know if this is driven by Safeway's treatment of staff or what. All I know is these folks lack ethics, business integrity and clearly don't want to be there. I get the impression most are long-tenure folks waiting to retire who stroll in, take breaks, check their phones and gossip whenever they feel like it; whether it's in front of a customer or not. I have heard Stevie Ray Vaughn in Safeway. Multiple times. Stevie Ray Vaughn. Recently, Jethro Tull. Have you ever heard Jethro Tull on a store's muzak? And R.E.M., Shiny, Happy People. I'm floored by the music I hear in this store, I feel like turning to strangers and sharing the thrill. Then there are the old dirty carts, the 1 cashier after 9:30 pm, the disgustingly dirty women's bathroom with broken faucets, leaking pipes, stall doors with broken latches and no hooks (just put your purse on that gross floor, why doncha?)... ...the customer service area with the two-way mirror that makes you feel like a Riker's Island inmate waiting for the warden to notice you, the way higher than SoCal prices...and start a freakin' program for the nicotine addicts that staff your stores. Walking the gauntlet of smoking employees hunkered against the outside wall on the way into the store adds to the Riker's Island ambiance. Hard to find best deals. One has to be very careful to make sure to read labels as they often misplaced and I found myself many times at the register finding out that some products are not on sale or with discounts because price tag was moved or typed very small letters. I was at the customer service counter the other day to get change for $100. I was met with a young fellow that was blond about five foot eight. He was an asst manager and the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. He was so bothered that I was there and keeping him from doing whatever he would have rather been doing. He never made eye contact with me, sighed deeply and rolled his eyes when I asked him to make change. I kept telling him thank you and I hope I was not bothering him. Yet he ignored my apologies and me and kept counting out my change. What a rude young man. I will not be back to that Safeway any time soon, that is for sure. Thank goodness this store has such a huge aversion to having shopping carts available for its customers (seriously, what's with the useless and empty cooler in the cart corral??), that alone helps limit your having to deal the ever increasing prices when they are already the most expensive place in town, or having to put up with cashiers that would rather talk to each other instead of greeting or paying attention to you. Been a long time shopper of Safeway but no more. The produce is old, and often next day spoils rotten in my refrigerator. They have practically done away with checkers - even during after work rush there is one register open. They are pushing customers to the self serve and bag your own, and I guess don't see the long lines or disgruntled customers. Two other people in line tonight said that was the last time for Safeway. I have to think we are the target demographic spending the most money at your store. Drive by and don't waste your time or money at this store. read more

The employees are very rude, when it says on the internet the have a particular item, they don't have it in the store.

This location has gone downhill. First of all it looks as though with the faded stripes in the messy parking lot that the parking lot was last painted and re-striped in some bygone era like during the Bush administration. For months an open storage trailer sat in the parking lot for some reason (it finally was moved). There are curbs missing giant pieces of concrete near the Starbucks/Noahs so watch your step. If you go inside, you can hear the automated intercom over and over announcing a phone call, but no one ever picks up so this can go on the entire time you are in the store. If you ask anyone stocking shelves where some item is, they seem to not work for Safeway. There are so few cashiers at check out that the lines take forever to get through. Not a pleasant experience at all. read more

Look, I like to think of myself as somewhat of a breakfast burrito connoisseur, particularly of the Safeway variety. I've had upwards of 50 of them, easily. And for some reason the deli employees can never be consistent about how they make them. They're either burnt or still cold in the middle. EXCEPT FOR ALYSYN!!! This review is mostly a complaint about the general chaos that is the people who are usually behind the counter. I prefer to shop at safeway, even though there is a newer remodeled store in town. I am used to the layout of safeway. I am very frustrated with their method of checking IDs to buy alcohol. I understand why companies are forced to check IDs. I think it is wrong to buy alcohol underage. However, like many people I am currently still waiting for my license, however since both my license and temporary license are expired because i am still waiting for my new license to come in the mail, I cannot buy alcohol here. Average customer service at best... They are open 24/7 which was a huge plus. Arrived early morning to get some stuff to take to work (around 4 am). Several employees were out stocking shelves etc. I was one of two shoppers that I saw in the store. One man who worked there looked up and smiled at me. The other 3-4 workers didn't say hi or good morning or ask if I needed help finding anything. I had to get some cream cheese and a gentleman was stocking that shelf. He moved his boxes out of my way and I thanked him but not a single response or acknowledgment from him in response. He said nothing to me. As a loyal Safeway customer I felt like I was an inconvenience to them. The checker was mediocre. I asked for bags, I stated I was willing to pay for them. He bagged half of my items. I had to ask for a separate bag to put some cards in that I had bought. Other Misc items he left out I had to put in other bags with my produce myself. If a store is busy I'm the first customer to start bagging my own stuff. I don't mind helping that way. Today I was his only customer in the only open line. He didn't even give me enough bags for the things I had bought. He saw me struggling to fit my $120 worth of products into my cart yet didn't ask if I needed help. He gave me my receipt and walked away from the check stand while I continued to load my own cart and bag the rest of my items. I gave the review 3 stars because the store was clean as was the parking lot and I was able to find everything I needed. If I were to rate only the customer service experience I would give it a 2. It wasn't awful or horrible but wasn't pleasant.... based on my experience I am not likely to return. It's unfortunate because just a month or two ago I gave another Safeway store a glowing review when I had shown up early in the am to purchase some breakfast items for my team. What a difference positive attitudes of employees can make! read more

It hard to believe how bad this store is vs just a couple years ago. Immediate improvement is needed is all aspects of the operation.

Extremely poor customer service. We had rented Rugdoctor from this location and had gone to return it today. There was no one available to help at customer service. We asked the employee standing at the self checkout counter if he could help us or call someone for help. He called someone named 'Carla' to come and help us at the customer service counter. We waited there for 10 minutes but no one came. I then asked another customer associate if she could help us or call someone to help. We waited another 10 minutes but no one came. Two more employees passed us and we asked them if they could help. They just waived and nodded their heads and said they can't help. We waited for another 5 minutes and another person came in to return some items at the customer service center. He asked us whether we are in line for help from customer service. We told him we had been waiting for almost 25 minutes without any help. He went to the same employee who was at the self checkout counter. This time, I don't know, what melted his heart, but he came to help and we were able to return the rented item. Will avoid this Safeway at all costs in future. I don't want to wait half an hour just wanting to be helped by someone. Would have given 0 stars if that were an option. It's a shame that customer service at Walmart is so much better than here. read more

The women running this grocery store tonight are far from helpful. I had to call 3 times to have someone help open the cabinet so we purchase some expensive liquor. After requesting someone to help me, one woman just said...sorry, i just pulled someone into my line..and the other lady named Janice could absolutely care less and basically shrugged. I overheard the conversation between the deli manager and the employee like this: Deli manager: This is ugly, ugly sandwich I've seen Employee: (shocked and sad) (she really made ugly sandwich ??!!!??) Deli manager yelled to employees in the back about food and slow employees. What a shame! When I asked for service at the deli, the employee responded "What do you want?" we always come to safeway when we need the "little things" in life. in other words, things we don't need 100 quantity of from COSTCO. PROS most, if not all, safeways come standard now with a jamba juice and starbucks. this is a major plus for me since i'm in love with both. wells fargo banking and ATM's i've only grabbed a sandwich from the deli here once. turkey w/ swiss and all the fixings. good and cheap ($5-7) depending on what you get and what you put on it. open 24 hours!! CONS the employees here are aight... not that i'm expecting anyone that works here to WOW me with their customer service but at least put on a smile or act happy. AT LEAST!! this place is expensive!! almost everything you look at is over priced, which is a big reason why we do most of our grocery shopping at COSTCO. but again, we come here for the "little things". i love and hate the safeway club card deals they have. LOVE them because you get deals. HATE them because smart ass safeway found a way to force us to spend spend spend. i.e. a case of soda will run you $2.99 BUT if you buy 5 cases you can get it all for the low low safeway price of $10. i could have taken the one case i intended to get in the first place but then on my way home i'd be killing myself because i could have had 4 more cases at a discounted price. so like i said, love/hate. plus i'm a sucker for deals so i obviously got the 5 cases at $10. i usually come here for the sandwiches. theyre just so damn good. sometimes they have beer on sale but being from Chico CA i love me some pale ale and its never on sale. as far as sandwiches go the bread is awesome i usually go for the split crust cheese or pesto bread and its always good. the meat is tasty and the havarti cheese is perfect. only gripe is no black olives... store has everything i need for my home, but the ONLY resaon i give this store 5 stars is because they have an amazing JAMBA JUICE. I go at different times and days and i almost always get the same lady Rena. she is ALWAYS very nice and knows how to make a good smoothie. i always see her working hard. sometimes during the after school rush she is the only one there who seems to be working really hard. i enjoy my jamba juice on a weekly basis and will continue to visit this jamba juice because of the GREAT service i always receive. thanks again rena for always making my drink perfect! read more

An ok Safeway. It has the basics and gets the job done. It seems older inside and in need of a bit of updating. The people were ok friendly. Nothing spectacular but nothing awful. It had run out of a couple items I needed but it was week's end. It has a Starbuck's inside and a bank. Parking is plentiful and right outside. If it were my go to Safeway I would want more but for an out of the way food run it was ok. read more

Came here after servicing my car at the dealership last night. This Safeway is the cleanest one I've been to. Although, I didn't like the set up as the aisles were a little off. I am rating the service. They had more than a few check out stands open so the lines were short and moved quickly. The baggers kept asking if I needed help out even though I only had 3 bags. This store is fairly clean and what had me hooked was the level of customer service I had to buy a bunch of ice for a party, the courtesy clerk offered to go get the ice as I was paying for it saving me a lot of time. I've been grocery shopping here for years with no complaints. BUT I had never ordered a cake from their bakery, which was BOMB! The cake was ordered just the day before the party and it was totally delicious, beautiful, moist, and the price was amazing! It rivaled any fancy local bakery. Safeway is my new go-to for baked goods. read more

This is my favorite Safeway in the Tri-Valley area. The staff are friendly and the deli sandwich makers are competent. I like that there is a nice wide aisle between the end of the check out lanes and the kiosk wall. The lady who supervises the self check outs during the week has been very cheerful and helpful. We live in Castro Valley and quit shopping at Safeway on Redwood Rd., could not handle the crowded parking lot and the lousy employee/customer attitudes, too depressing. Changed to the Safeway on E. Castro Valley Blvd., again the same attitudes and concerns. So recently we decided to try this Safeway in Pleasanton and we could not believe the difference. Clean, well stocked, ample parking and courteous staff, we'll return to this Safeway for our grocery needs from now on! read more

Like no express lane open during after work rush. I normally go to the Safeway on Dublin Blvd and haven't experienced that problem there. I love this safeway because its right next to where i work. I've never had a single problem with their products and their products are great! The prices and sales are also awesome. Because their store is so huge they have a great amount of products. I love their Lucerene milk! So clean tasting lol. The staff is great and so is the store itself. They have all the usual stuff, but are constantly understaffed. They don't restock the hand baskets by the doors. They always have large lines due to not enough check stands open. It takes a long time to buy things. Much faster to go elsewhere. Right now I'm in line 12 people deep :/ read more
