Shame on this store and front manager this afternoon. Tho a bit tawndry, there is no excuse for what he did. He used the toilet facilities and took the last of the toilet paper. While I was waiting to be next, he informed me there was no more toilet paper. I told him emphatically to go get some more. He stated it might take a long time. My daughter is at camp in the area so I aim to find a location nearby to plug in my laptop and get some work done so I don't have to battle traffic back and forth. They have a spot inside near Starbucks to sit--spacious and clean. Unfortunately, no outlets to charge so after awhile, my battery died. I found an outdoor table that had an outside plug lots of outdoor seating but there are a lot of smokers who take advantage of the space. I have shopped here about 7 times so far as I work and recently moved into the area. 4 out of my 7 trips resulted in me finding expired or opened food. Thankfully after the first time wasting my money on expired yogurt, I now date check every item before purchasing. This easily doubles the length of what should be a quick trip to the store. In doing so, I have found and alerted employees of 4 other expired yogurts and 3 expired packages of sandwich meat. On the most recent trip I purchased (non-expired, thankfully) chicken broth, only to find out mid recipe that the seal underneath the cap had been opened before my purchase. Are used to live in the Midwest, and went to Safeway all the time, but living out east, and coming to Phoenix area was a bit of a sticker shock for me, but it is what it is. Produce here was good and fresh but they were actually out of cilantro and a couple of other herbs, but this was late Saturday night and we came back Sunday and they had restocked. We rented an Airbnb for our company. There was seven of us so buying groceries and cooking at the house with me as the personal chef, we saved a lot of money and bought the supplies for tacos. The first night, steaks the second night, stuffed chicken, the third night, lots of vegetables, fresh fruit And juice was all available here at Safeway. Didn't have to go to any other place which is great because it was 2 miles from our house. It was great to have baggers for the groceries because they're starting to disappear in the south as more people don't go to work or are treated poorly seemingly in the entire food industry. So we were happy to see, happy employees, most everything we needed was in stock and fresh, knowledgeable staff. We ended up making three trips here as we invited additional guest to the house. This is my go-to grocery store and though the grocery side of business has been fine, the Starbucks in this store has given me 2 of the worst customer service experiences in just this week. On Thursday 3/13 around 4-4:30pm, my mom and I waited for employee to finish with customer in front of us. They were chatting despite given his drink but we were patient. Once he left, the employee who is a brunette girl in her 20's, didn't acknowledge us at counter and began doing her dishes. My mom got her attention, employee turned to us and said "sorry I have so many dishes to do" and continued slowly doing all her dishes. There was no line behind us and all we wanted were a few coffees that didn't require dishes so that was a bit frustrating. Had she asked, she didn't need to do dishes while customers were waiting for her to take our order. We stood there waiting at the counter awhile longer and it became apparent she was going to make us wait until she did all her dishes before taking our order. We were pretty shocked at her choice and ended up leaving without purchasing because we didn't feel valued as customers and had already waited too long. I return today 3/16 around 4:30pm with my child and noticed it was the same employee. When ordering my drink, I asked to apply my Starbucks points and she confirmed. Once she rang me up, I reminded her of redeeming points because she didn't apply them. She tells me she didn't apply them and can't reverse my order (not sure what that even meant or why she didn't apply them). I tell her again I wanted to redeem my points. She becomes visibly frustrated and rudely says "sooo what do you want me to do?" Again, I tell her I wanted to redeem points and again, rudely says she can't. It's not making sense why she can't and isn't giving a reason. I go to Starbucks frequently, it's a simple process but seemed to want to act combative for no reason. She then rudely says "you didn't tell me you wanted to redeem points." At this point, I know I'm speaking with an irrational person because we had a conversation about it just seconds before. She then tells me "you don't need to argue with me" and is making snarky comments under her breath...in front of my child...ridiculous. I ask for a refund because at this point, she's making rude remarks, blaming me for her mistake, and making snide remarks under her breath. She angrily calls manager on intercom. Once he arrives, her first words to him are "she didn't tell me she wanted to use points..."I tell manager that at this point, I just want my money refunded so we can leave. Two times now, the store has lost my business to this extremely rude, inappropriate, and unprofessional employee they have working for them. I spoke with two male managers on duty regarding my experience with her and they said it will be addressed. She has such a nasty attitude towards customers so I truly hope, for the businesses benefit and for customers, they don't have to tolerate such behavior and incompetence. read more

Letter to corporate headquarters of Safeway: Attention: Mr. Sankaran and Mr. Hanover, I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the service I received at your Safeway store located at 14696 N Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 on the morning of August 17, 2024. As a loyal customer of Safeway for the past 14 years, I was dismayed by the recent experience I had. On the date in question, I returned two Danzeisen glass bottles for a deposit refund and requested quarters for the $8.00 refund, which were intended for my 92-year-old neighbor, Anna, who needed them for laundry. Unfortunately, this simple request led to an unpleasant interaction with your cash manager, Gary (no last name provided). The checkout clerk was initially unable to process my request and referred me to Gary, who was walking by. Gary refused my request for quarters, citing insufficient availability. When I asked for quarters for just one of the bottles, his response remained the same, and he became increasingly dismissive. I ultimately accepted dollar bills from the clerk. To my dismay, matters worsened when Gary shouted across the store to the Starbucks counter, instructing staff not to provide me with quarters for a minor purchase I had just made. Fortunately, the barista assisted me and returned my change (including quarters) despite Gary's instructions, which I greatly appreciated. I am concerned that the barista might have faced repercussions for providing good customer service in contrast to Gary's directives. Additionally, I told a friend, and he visited the store shortly after the incident and spoke to Gary and offered to cash in a jar of quarters at the customer service counter, as he had heard there was a "quarter shortage" only to be told by Gary that they were not needed. His response was flippant and again dismissive, telling my friend he could use Coinstar but "it will cost ya". Gary's behavior, including his bullying of employees and creating a hostile environment for both customers and staff, reflects poorly on Safeway. While I do understand that the grocery store is not a bank; you cannot possibly have me believe that Gary could not spare 8 quarters to keep a long-standing customer happy. It is hard to believe that due to his actions, I now feel uncomfortable and unwelcome going into "my" Safeway store. This unnecessary incident has prompted me to reconsider my patronage. I trust that you will address this matter seriously and take appropriate actions to prevent such incidents in the future. Employees smoking in front of the store should not be allowed. It says right on the label that the product will adversely affect your health and because I'm smart, I don't smoke. I don't want to breathe other peoples smoke either. If you want to destroy your health, that is your prerogative. But I consider it an attack if I have to inhale it as well. I don't go to the grocery store in the morning to be attacked. Safeway, beyond not knowing how to establish correct protocol for their employees, is routinely over priced. Beyond that so many of their products have artificial ingredients and they literally do not sell one brand of bagels without soy. Soy is known to reduce testosterone and increase inflammation and manufacturers literally put it in everything which may be one reason why Americans struggle with their health so much. Tried out this grocery as it's right down the street from me. Been here a few times and it's very clean and organized. And the staff were more than helpful if I had any questions on where to find things. They have pretty much every ingredient you could think of and also carry flowers, alcoholic beverages, a bakery, something like a butcher shop. Pretty much anything one would need and all for a good price. I'm new to town and even the woman working the cash register welcomed me and made sure to give me a Safeway member card so I could get the club discounts. We're visiting Scottsdale from the Bay Area in California. We stopped by this Safeway for a quick SB run and snack before hitting Taliesin West. Overall, its a pretty nifty Safeway so 4 stars! Lots of things to like: 1. Solar Panel covers in the main lot. I could only imagine grocery shopping with your car under the brutal Arizona sun. These panels keep your car cool during the day and generate electricity to power the lights at night (I presume) 2. Most Safeways have a nice deli and buffet to for chicken wings with different flavors. But how many have a seating area with leather seats, tables, and a TV! Also, adjacent restroom. Nice! 3. Chicken wings themselves were decent. 4. Starbucks booth had quick and friendly service. Since Arizona has most days sunny, go for the Cold Brew! read more

Ordered a dark pink flower corsage for today. When I placed the order the lady recommended a carnation but I stated I preferred a rose, but would accept a carnation if the roses were not nice. There were beautiful arrangements of dark pink roses in the floral department so there was no excuse to give me a carnation. According to the price tag on the box I was being charged $17.99 for a "rose corsage" (see pic) but was given a carnation with a fake green leaf and ribbon. Not only was I over charged but it was a far cry from the beautiful rose and baby's breath I received last year. To make things worse I was offered a $3 discount for my dissatisfaction even though I was already being charged incorrectly. I was never offered a remake even though the florist was still there, even after speaking to a manager. read more

Although the price was attractive at their butcher shop, the breast were awkward in size, a few had bones in them and to be honest they sucked. In the US today, we've seen a contraction of the choices available in grocers, but not here in the valley. We have Fred Meyers(Fry's), Albertsons, Safeway and local Bashas, as well as the upmarket speciality stores like AJs (Bashas), Fresh & Easy, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Sprouts. Safeway has always been safe, middle of the road choice for me. When I'm looking for something unique, I know I can find it there. The employees are very helpful, actually they go out of their way to find stuff for you. When was the last time a store manager offered to check the warehouse for an item and order it if it wasn't there? They've recently upgraded and modernized this store while improving on their already good wine & cheese section and have added a gourmet nut section. Enjoy! read more
