I never got the food, yet I was charged for it, I went to the website for a method to contact and get my credit card refunded. Well, yet again Safeway has failed. Upon arrival for the two items we needed, we checked out at the "Express Check out". 7 minutes later, BOTH express lines CLOSED, letting us know when it was our turn. This store might have used a SuperTrooper mentality when laughing at those of us that wait- only to be disappointed. The ONLY reason for the 2 stars is the way the customer service desk seemed to care when I asked him if we can check out there. FIX SAFEWAY, all of them!!! District needs to see the terribly inconsistent customer service as well as the generally poor products on the shelves. If I could give his place a zero, I would! I just had the worst experience EVER with a cashier named Alicia or Alica.... She didn't give me a receipt so I wouldn't know. It all started when I didn't know she was done putting items in a bag so I went to grab it and put it in the cart. She yelled at me and told me in a very rude way to wait. After that, one of the whole chickens didn't have a label and that was followed by her saying "aww s**t" and her muttering under her breath and being pissed off. So after I was scolded for grabbing my bags, she loaded them in my cart and I said thank you with nothing in return. She muttered something again and I said what? She yelled at me are you playing Monopoly and I said no and I guess she didn't hear me and asked again. I once again said no thanks and she yelled at me again saying "Speak up next time!". I have never EVER been treated like that in any store I have ever shopped in. I said excuse me? She yelled at me again " SPEAK UP NEXT TIME". I asked for her manager and every employee around froze like this person was some mythical beast. Went to the counter and spoke with the manager and he stated that she has had issues before and this helps and he was glad I told him. Awful customer service! The staff is nice and knowledgeable, the store is pretty well maintained and the parking lot is covered! That's it with the positive. Buyer beware at the prices... I asked a clerk who was sweeping the aisles last night for help finding an item and she actually said, "I don't know," and kept walking. Not, "I'm sorry I don't know but I will find out." Just, "I don't know," and kept walking. This is the saddest store in so many ways. Aesthetically the store looks like a store from 1982 in a third world country. The staff are minimally polite and yet still seem somewhat perturbed. I am in this store 1-2 times weekly and there are always at least 1-2 items that I usually buy but they do not have in stock. The liquid dairy section is especially scarce on supplies. I frequently have to stand on a lower shelf to reach items on a higher shelf that aren't reset/restocked. I will probably start having groceries delivered just so I can avoid the unpleasantness of having to shop here. The only reason I keep shopping here is because it is close to my home. :-( read more

They seemed to of given up on saying that over the loudspeaker because every line always has at least 3 people waiting in it. So instead of buying the item I decided to just leave. Safeway - My experience every time I go to this Safeway! Ever since they removed self check out the lines are so long - Grocery Near Me - Scottsdale, Arizona

I'm a regular shopper at this Safeway since it's so clean, customer-friendly and close to home. This year, they decided to open their doors on Christmas for half the day which is really convenient for shoppers who live nearby. Yay, Safeway! They were open till 3:00 that day -- you knew it immediately because two women were standing at the set of automatic doors that hadn't been blocked off, frowning and shouting at customers, "We're closing in 30 minutes." I know, i know, no one wants to work on Christmas -- even those who are probably getting paid double-time, but as a regular customer I expected the same level of customer service and professionalism that I usually get on my trips to Safeway. When I worked Christmases you can bet I delivered the same care and even a little extra cheer, but that wasn't the case at Safeway. Because so many people were busy blocking off doors and preparing to get the store ready for close, half-an-hour-early, it was impossible to find a grocer/associate to ask questions to while you were shopping. Meanwhile, a chain of announcements of when they were closing went on and on over the grocery intercom. The fridges and shelves in most aisles were half-empty and hadn't been restocked at all that day, it felt like shopping for food during a zombie apocalypse, (which was kind of cool, but not really). The only redeeming quality was the cheerful guy behind the deli counter putting things away -- at least he was polite about it. As we were leaving the automatic doors, still five minutes before close, the same two women who were on the verge of harassing customers were turning them away. The younger woman asking the other, (possibly a manager?) to just go ahead and lock the doors five minutes early. A woman who was pushing her cart out at the same time commented that they tried to keep her from going in at 2:40, when she saw others being allowed. Three things: 1) Don't stay open on Christmas if your Grinch staff doesn't support the idea and is going to harass customers. I'd rather be sad that you're closed, than sad about how you're treating your customers. 2) People shouldn't be manning the doors half an hour before close to try to keep customers away, they should be trying to help their loyal customers inside with any questions to speed up their purchases. 3) The nice man in the deli clearly deserves a raise or extra New Year bonus for being the friendliest person working there. This is only a three star review because I've seen Safeway on better days. read more

Worst. Safeway. Ever! This location has always been busy - one of the employees indicated it is the 2nd highest grossing Safeway in AZ. However, once the Albertson's nearby was closed two months ago, the store volume has exploded! I try and schedule my visits strategically as to avoid the crowds - but there is no "light" traffic time anymore! For example, I visited on a Thursday night at 8:30pm to pick up a couple of things. There were only four registers open, none of the express registers were open - and the lines snaked one third all the way into the grocery aisles! I thought I was in a Soviet style bread line! It was horrific! The pictures submitted by customers on this site tell the story - and it is like this ALL THE TIME!!! I agree with the other posters! Avoid this store if possible! And it is faster to drive to Albertson's on Via Linda and FLW than to fight these lines! One more thing - the reason the staff is all aggro - is because they are all jacked up and overworked because this store is grossly understaffed! I recommend that store complaints be directed straight to Safeway.com; there is a send message option on the website. The comments are logged then sent directly to store management for review/resolution. This is the best way to express your opinion! The bottom line is this store is understaffed! Keep up the pressure! Hopefully one of these days they will finally staff this store relative to volume. Good luck! read more

This Safeway is my go-to grocery store as it is conveniently located between my work and home. I can stop by on my way into work or I can stop by on my way home. It is a win-win for me. The only downside is that it used to be a fancy Safeway with a fancy nut section but then they remodeled and removed the fancy nut section. I honestly miss those nuts. (Sure, they have a small nut selection in the produce area but it isn't the same.) On the plus, they have a Starbucks inside and I will admit I stop here more often than I should. The other plus is that their meat selection is rather good and I enjoy the bakery. (I love their single slice servings of chocolate cake.) The produce section is hit or miss. I usually only buy a few produce items from here and then do my hard-code produce shopping elsewhere. Overall, it's a decent grocery store for both light and extreme shopping. read more

The wine guy was very helpful and they have an overall good selection. The prices are rather high though. I will avoid this store in October as they are over the top with this breast cancer charity scam. They really push it and I find it repulsive that they continue to support a disease that ONLY affects women and less than 1% of men. read more

Bakery staff not friendly or helpful at all. They act like they don't need your business. Wanted to order cupcakes with the frosting top smooth/flat and frosted sides. The first lady I spoke to in the store said it would be 'easier' to call in the order the next day in the morning. Called the next morning and spoke to the baker. She hemmed and hawed about having to frost them individually instead of piping the frosting from a bag. I asked her if she'd like me to drop off a picture of an example. She said no. Picked the cupcakes up and I could've done a better job at home. All the other departments at the store are friendly and helpful. Wish the bakery could get their act together. Ehhh this location is just okay. Pros: If you have food allergies, they have a whole aisle dedicated to gluten-free goods and more snack options than most grocery stores. Personally, I've never had a problem with customer service here. Cons: To point out the obvious, the lines are ridiculous. I won't even come in until after 8pm anymore to do my shopping. The produce section is pretty awful. I honestly can't say I've ever bought a batch of strawberries from here that aren't already rotting on the bottom. Their bowls of cut fruit are always mushy (especially the watermelon). And if you order a sandwich from the deli, it'll literally take them 10 years to make it. read more

I'm probably thinking what everyone else is thinking- reviewing a grocery chain?? One of my favorite things about this store is the seafood area- not because of the variety or presentation (both okay) but the employees keep that area so clean it's unreal. At the end of the nite its spotless. And for me that means people care about the job start to finish. So what needs to change- imagine this.....the deli area had fresh salads. I noticed that the olives in the olive bar looked way fresher than the deli salad with the black olives. So I asked why the difference. Well as it turns out the ingredients used in the supposedly "fresh" salads COME IN PRE MADE!!! WTF- you have the freshest vegetables right in front of you and you use prepackaged produce?? Yeas it seems like to much effort in the section that is named " deli fresh" that something is actually fresh (don't even go there with no homegrown representation ). Now I don't want to hear from any corporate accounting types that "economy of scale" or it makes sense "because of the volume" to use other than fresh ingredients. Isn't that what a deli is all about? Really Safeway you can't even make a fresh salad at a store but want to dump mediocre quality from a bag and mix it up? My suggestion like I do every time I'm there is tell the manager over and over again to force change for better quality and better standards. And lastly, for a long time Safeway had their fresh roasted nuts and homemade peanut butter. Great as it should be. Sadly a "corporate" decision eliminated the fresh roasted nuts and peanut butter. But don't worry shoppers, Safeway still has mass produced "Jiffy" peanut butter with great home additives you need a chemistry degree to interpret and fresh roasted nuts in a bag with a shelf life of 2+ years. After all why buy fresh and homemade when you can have prepackaged, chemically added, corporate margin friendly food items. read more

I have stopped shopping at this Safeway because of the Deli workers. They don't seem to be trained in their jobs, nor do they know the products they sell. I asked for a simple request (oven roasted turkey), and the man behind the counter looked like his head was about to explode. He stammered and couldn't start to complete the order. On another occasion, the woman working there put my order directly on the scale without any paper. I don't know what was on the scale, and when it was last cleaned. I would rather drive farther to another store than deal with the poorly trained staff at this store. read more

Believe it or not, this Safeway is a decent spot for breakfast. There's a breakfast sandwich with eggs, (yellow or white) your choice of cheeses and Ham, bacon or Sausage for only $1.99. This combines with their small, in-store Starbuck's will get you a great breakfast for under $5 There's even reasonable seating! read more

Problems: (1) PRICE RIPOFFs -- they offer savings on items from their online app/website, but then charge full price at the cash register. This is happened to me on five different items in the last three months. At the service desk, they always are willing to refund the difference without any resistance, which suggests they know what they're doing. And the price discrepancies are always one way, always 100% in favor of the store and never in favor of the customer. I wonder how many millions of people throughout the Albertson's/Safeway family of companies are being ripped off like this every single week. Annually, the company is probably making several hundred million dollars by not honoring the discounts they're offering. It's good business -- for profits, but not for customers. (2) BAD TASTING PREPARED FOOD in DELI and BAKERY. Most of what they make in the bakery in the way of cakes and anything with cream fillings and/or frostings is pretty bad tasting and even a bad mouth feel -- tastes like mouthfuls of sickly sweet hydrogenated vegetable fat (like whipped Crisco straight from its can). Members of my family who shop at other Safeway stores have said the same thing and none of us ever buy any sweet items from the bakery anymore (except for the cookies, they're good). The deli's cooked items, like chicken, taters, ribs, etc. all taste stale, bland, poorly processed, and/or past their expiration date. Soooo, if you want bad tasting bakery or deli food, and you want to be ripped off at the cash register, Safeway's your store. read more

Clean store, helpful staff

There really isn't anything all that special about this safeway compared to the others in the valley. It's spacous and clean, and carries generally the same items at the same prices. As another Yelper pointed out, the Beer and Wine selection is more upscale. there are two things that I really like about this location which I would like to share: 1. Self-check out I know some people hate it. But I'm a fan. I hate waiting in line. If I'm buying just one or two items, I'd much rather scan and pay myself as quickly as possible. 2. Not too crowded If there is a crowd here, I've never really noticed it. It's always easy to find an employee who's free to help you. And if I don't use the self-check out, the line at the registers have never been too long. This location does suffer from my usual Safeway complaint. Can the employees stop looking at the name on the recept from the safeway card? I understand the theory behind this policy, but my phone number on file is an old one, and comes up as someone else. They always try to call me by his appearently hard to pronounce name. My girlfriend has also scanned her card before, then I have paid. Men just love it when they're called Mr. [her last name]. I almost always pay by credit. Try looking at that name, please. read more

This location has a Starbucks, redbox inside, water filling outside, Wells Fargo bank and ATM. One of the only places selling full gallons of organic milk. Used to have a natural section but it went away and the products were spread out throughout the store. read more

Safeway is literally my " convenience " store. I don't do my regular shopping here. I pick up water or a bag of lettuce or chips or wings. I really used to like the wing bar here but recently not so much. Tonight I dropped in for some wings and was very disappointed in what I saw. Dried, burnt, old, been sitting there awhile wings. I tried to pick out what looked like were eatable but still I was so disappointed once I sat down and tried to eat these dried up, burnt wings. No one monitors this station anymore. There have been times when I've had to go to the deli section and request that fresh wings be made. That's a 15 minute wait. I shouldn't have to wait if this is something you offer. I've gone down to your sister store Albertsons on Via Linda and Frank Lloyd Wright for wings which is way out of the way for me just so I get good quality wings. Most recently, I got a birthday cake for my son's birthday party. 2 layer, custard filled, Thomas the Train theme with whipped cream frosting... $28! And it served 30 people. The employees are so great super helpful and nice even though the clientele is horrible! I honestly feel like they should get paid double to deal with these people! Just rude and entitled people constantly trying to cut people in line like children and not ever looking up from their phone and not getting out of people's way no matter what! Decent, clean store. Wish they had an organic section like Fry's. Hot wing bar I has gotten really dried out and the wings are old tasting. I actually really like the sushi here. Clerks in the store could use a bit more soft skills training on eye contact and greeting the customer. Ask if you can help someone; smile. Went shopping with my mother and she likes to buy the bread you warm up to eat, so they have them all staged by the unused brick oven , which I was told is always on but never used. And wouldn't you know it most of the bread was moldy and I mean gross green mold. I told the deli clerk and he said corporate wants them there and wants the oven on because it looks good. We are in Arizona not Alaska. It's to hot to put bread there which gets condensation in the bags that turn into moldy bread and rolls. Please have some common sense and move them instead of throwing food out. read more
