Honestly I've been coming here for years! Best times to go to this safeway location is early mornings before 7AM or after 7PM. Anywhere between then you will run into lines. Holidsy shopping is a nightmare so don't procrastinate and then complain! Tsk tsk do your shopping early on holidays you won't be sorry. I've waited 1 hour in line before it was before Christmas eve! Save yourself and do it early. Lots of selection of produce especially with organic pesticide free produce, lots of gluten free options, & ethnic cultured foods. They have a bakery, pharmacy deli and flower & balloon stand. Located inside are a convenient Starbucks shop & Chase Bank. Don't forget to use your safeway card and rewards for coupons. Next door is Ross dress for less store. Parking is challenging if you go during peak hours so go after the rush hour and busy times! read more

Stopped on my way home from work (approximately 7pm on a weeknight) to buy some steaks which were on sale in the weekly ad. The plan was to cook them for dinner that night. My girlfriend and I stood at the butcher counter for about 5 minutes and nobody was around to help. I went to look for someone who could page the butcher, and happened upon the manager who was running the stand at the self checkout. I asked him if he could please page someone to the back so we could buy some steaks. He replied that he was the only one in the store who could get the steaks, and it would be "at least thirty minutes" before he could meet us back there to wrap them up. It was already late, and we still had to cook the dinner so this wouldn't work. I asked if there were any other options, and was told no. We abandoned our cart of groceries, left empty handed and drove down the street to QFC where the butcher was at his post and happy to sell us some meat! Very surprised to be treated this way by the manager on duty and I don't feel they deserve higher than one star if this is how they treat people who want to spend money in their store! read more

I've been going to this Safeway for 13 years now, and sadly, tonight will be my last night shopping there. The last 5 years have shown a steady decline in customer service, attitude, and quality. The clerks used to be friendly, would look you in the eye, and treat you like an individual. Lately, especially in the last 2 years, the employees just seem...miserable. Although the selection, presentation, and diversity of food items are consistently good, the overwhelming "I don't give a crap" attitude of the staff is so much of a turn-off, that it just isn't a pleasant place to be anymore. I don't know if it's a management thing or what, but my goodness, the clerks can't or won't seem to be able to even formulate complete sentences anymore, or seem to have a clue about the basics in human interactions. read more

This Safeway is ALWAYS understaffed. Customers are always waiting in lines that stretch 75 feet long. It's quite ridiculous. If it weren't so close to home, I'd much rather go to the Rainier Beach Safeway. It's cleaner, faster, and friendlier. No one has ever asked me if I need help at the Mount Baker Safeway. Many cashiers are incredibly slow, too. Hire more people and train better cashiers!!! read more

If I hadn't lived through this I wouldn't believe anything could survive this level of incompetence and sheer contempt for their customers. I've been a customer for 20 years and a once a month online shopper for about 8 years. Then something changed. I use the 2 hour delivery window because I am disabled and I need to make sure my caregiver is available when the groceries arrive. Usually if the drivers are running late they give me a call and I can make arrangements. The troubles began with a delivery that was 2 1/2 hours late, no call. Well, I figure, it can happen to anyone. The next delivery was 1 1/2 hours late and no call. Now I'm pissed because it's cheaper to use the 4 hour window but I'm paying for a 2 hour window. I call and tell them, per their guarantee, my delivery should be free. Next, I wanted to add prescriptions to my next order so I called the pharmacy. They are dismissive and tell me that I have to "Order it on the website because that's how they are notified of the refill." I order it on the website and then check back with the pharmacy to make sure I've done it properly. The next order arrives missing an entire bag of frozen food (about $30). The bag is "found" and delivered the next day but with the wrong products. I call and a ask where is the credit for my late deliveries? I include prescriptions on the next order by just including them on the website but the order arrives without prescriptions. When I call for an explanation I'm told that I must also call the pharmacy in addition to placing the order online. The next order also includes prescriptions (nasty bronchitis) and I call the pharmacy in advance to let them know and then place the order. The next morning the pharmacy calls to ask me if I wanted to place ANTOHER online order and they will include the prescriptions in the new order because it's not in this one. The caregiver leaves, the delivery is late and I get a ride to go get my medication elsewhere. That's the incompetence part. Here's the contempt part. I have a message that says to "Call to reschedule delivery" and I call the next day to say, you're late, cancel the delivery. They tell me it will take 5-7 days for the refund to show up on my credit card. I wait 7 days and send an email. I get an email back saying I should wait until the 25th (7 to 10 BUSINESS DAYS) and if I haven't received and answer I should contact them again. On the 25th I call. An idiot puts me on hold five times, contradicts himself four times and finally tells me to contact my bank because the refund has been processed. I contact the bank and they send and email stating no deposit in in process for that amount. I forward the email to Safeway along with another note. I get a response telling me to wait another 7 to 10 Business days while they investigate. I called this morning and was told they didn't believe me or the bank and they'd get back to me in a few days. Spoke to my son whose delivery just never arrived. He too had to PROVE he didn't get his groceries. Sounds like a trend. I'd have a better chance getting groceries delivered by just throwing cash out the window to strangers. Update - It's been another week, another email and still no response about the refund from Safeway. Tonight I had to order groceries. but I won't risk ordering from Safeway again. I have used Amazon Fresh in the past for I thought they were more expensive than Safeway. Was I wrong. I went through each item and found that most were the same price or cheaper and I had a better selection. I like that I can sort according to gluten free etc. And Free Delivery! Let's see if they really do deliver tomorrow. I am finished with Safeway Home Delivery forever. read more

They don't want to update there system. Instead just inconvenience people with there lack of knowledge, no people skills, very slow. I know nothing will get fixed. This store is on my way home and it's a reflection of the other Safeway near my home in the CD. No hand carts when you walk in. I have to grab one from the the front of a check out station. No mini carts unless you grab one from the parking lot. A few huge grey plastic carts in the proper place but who wants those? Then try to navigate the poorly planned out store, it's a mess. Normals put all the cheese near each other, not literally from one end of the store to the other. Doesn't make sense. Also they have this huge mess in the middle of the store that makes you zig and zag to get to the milk. There are never enough check out people even during holidays and they are not nice a lot. I would probably be a bit surly if I worked there too though. I have been a Safeway customer for very many years but no more. been going there for a while now. it's pretty much got everything you would want from a mid to upper-mid-tier grocery store. but one aspect of their shoppers reward plan that has really, really, really bothered me for a long, long, long time is that my name would get printed on the receipts. i don't need my name on my receipts. i want to be able to recycle it and not worry about identity theft. i want to recycle it without having to rip my name off the slip. so i finally got around to calling the toll free number to customer service: 877.723.3929 and asked to stop printing my name on the receipts. i was fully prepared to hear them say "sorry dude. that's what we do and you're stuck with this "feature"" and i was so pleasantly shocked. they can do it. you just have to ask for it. i can't wait to NOT see my name on the next receipt i get from them!! read more

I want to love this Safeway because it's in my neighborhood and the selection is pretty good. However they never have enough check-out lines open and it regularly takes up to 45 minutes just to stand in line. The inefficiency of the store makes me not shop there. I have visited the store at many different times of day and days of the week and there is simply never a good time. If you come to this Safeway be prepared to spend more time in line than you did shopping. Feel free to try self check-out but the machines are rarely working. read more

This store does just a couple of things right, like carrying a decent selection of certain types (not all) of ethnic ingredients. Otherwise, it's pretty much horrible. UGH... Where to start? This is easily the WORST Safeway ever! Always understaffed! Always understocked! Safety is not a concern whatsoever and quite frankly I think the security guards on staff usually have more concerns about the safety of the customers then the actual store managers do. You can tell the staff has been overworked and they just don't care anymore. The deli department is insanely busy, yet they only have two people working back there at all times. I have waited 45 minutes in line before at the registers! I also have repeatedly given them suggestion to alleviate some of the time wasted with customers using WIC or food stamps... They really should have their own line! Every single time they delay the line from moving in an appropriate amount of time! I think this place should hire on at least 10 more people... However, I think the wait would go from 45 minutes to 30 minutes because they're very simply and totally disorganized! Employees blame it on management, management blames it on corporate, corporate blames it on the recent sale to Albertson's! Stop with the excuses and clean up your shit!! I was drawn to the Rainier Valley Safeway today after receiving a Safeway mailer advertising Pepsi product 12 packs buy 2 get 3 free. While I was there I collected a few other items I needed. After I checked out I realized I had been charged full price for all 5 12 packs of Pepsi product. I brought this to the attention of the checker, and she hollered to a supervisor, Elhadji M., to come assist. I explained the problem to him and showed him my receipt. He kept looking at the receipt and finally told me that based on my savings it looked like I saved enough. I explained to him that those savings were on other items, and he refused to believe me. Out of frustration I requested my order be voided and my money returned. He voided my order and returned my money. I asked if he would like to ring up my order to see where the problem was, he told me he was on a break and started to walk away. I asked for a copy of my receipt as I had paid with credit card and he refused and continued to walk away. I then drove up Rainier to QFC, who also had Pepsi buy 2 get 3 free. I was able to purchase everything I needed with no problem. read more

The absolute worst Safeway service in the city. Regardless of the time of day, I have to stand in line for longer than it took me to shop for my items. In addition, the checkers don't even seem to be in a hurry. The line I was in today had nine people in front of me and behind me I couldn't see where the line ended. The Manager here was super unhelpful and unfriendly. I tried to return some icecream here from another store and he refused to help me and told me that since his store would lose money on it if he returned it since they don't carry the product. He turned me away and after calling the original store that I bought it from they told me he could have offered to exchange it for another similar product. Well, now his store will lose my business as a customer all because he wouldn't even exhcange some $3.00 ice cream. read more

Worst ever. Forget the deli. No service, no variety. Does not even qualify as a deli. The bakery specializes in stale. Stale everything. The meat department is slow on putting out the fresh stuff. The vegetables and what little fruit they have look like its been kicked across the store and by golly, you're going to pay top dollar for it. No such thing as customer service. Most cashiers are nice enough, overworked. Lucky if there are 2 checkout lanes open. It's in a crummy part of town and the quality of service and no variety really show it. i went in the rainier valley, (3820 rainier ave south) safeway door 1 minute late...@ 11:01pm sat. jan 15th, and scurried to and pointed at the ice cream at the front isle case asking if might just buy this ice cream. i only wanted the 1 ice cream (not searching or shopping around) which would have taken me faster to self checkout than the people not even at the checkoiut and the person still checking out(when i entered the store) . but...they came running out of nowhere to make an extra effort in making sure i couldn't buy it!! that kind of customer service never happens when i actually need help! they all were gpoing out of their way to make me feel like some kind of criminal for wanting ice cream at 11:02pm!! they actually made me feel as if i was there breaking a law or causing harm to someone! by the time they had shoooed me out...i could've been a happy customer thanking them for letting me buy an ice cream at 11:02pm and spreading that news to all of my friends saying how nice it was for letting me buy an ice cream at 11:02pm!! but instead.....as usual....made me feel like they were doing me the favor for letting me shop at their store and i wasted all that stress driving there to get there in time so that they could make me feel even worse!!!! i'll be sure to tell everyone not to shop there!! i wouldve banned this safeway a long time ago if it wasnt the only grocery store convenient to where i live. it's no wonder people don't respect that place!!! i think they all think they're drug dealers and the groceries are the drugs or something!! those filipina checkers are the only one's who seem to have a clue as to what customer service means!! read more

The Safeway seems 110% better after the remodel. More space for shoppers to walk around and find deals. Prices are higher compared to other grocery chains. Convenient self-checkout! Seriously, the worst Safeway I've ever been in. Always 1-2 broken self service checkouts, long lines, high prices, junk food. If you want 50 kinds of frozen pizza or other crap food, great. The reason for the ridiculously long wait times in line, and the near impossibility of finding a staff person to help you is simple. I found this out after speaking with a security guard when I couldn't find a single basket to put my groceries in. I said, Where are all the baskets, and he proceeded to tell me this: we are short of baskets because people take them home. Why? In the commission of crimes, as they load up the baskets with cosmetics, etc., then race out the doors into an idling car, and off they go!! So this store has a LOT of theft. And so the store is punished by corporate by losing hours for more employees. So no baggers, not all lanes are open, floor feels deserted. And even the self-checkout stations can be backed up as bad as the regular checkouts. Poor employees, don't even know why they work here. The QFC a little north is an entirely different world where you can feel the pride taken by employees for jobs well done. So you see the repercussions of shoplifting. read more

I try to resist giving negative reviews but sometimes this Safeway brings out my worst instincts. The store is big and clean with a huge variety of products. There are some employees who are terrific (looking at you, Melanie) while others seem dispirited. I have a feeling the store has poor employee relations. My only real gripe is the checkout process. 15 minutes in line is not unusual. One station open with 6-8 shoppers backed up is common. It seems to me that both the customers and the staff deserve much better treatment. read more

Do not use this Pharmacy! Every single time I come here when I get to the counter counter they tell me that they don't have my prescription or that they can't fill my prescription for some reason. They are never helpful about the process of fixing whatever issue happened they just shrug and then walk away from the counter and leave it all up to me. Often the issue is that even though my doctor's office has sent the prescription to them, for some reason they can't seem to find it in their computer. I have repeatedly had to make my doctors office call them on the phone while I stand at the counter. Once they have my prescription they will tell you to wait 20 minutes but they don't give you any indication of when your prescription is ready and you then have to wait in a long line go up to the front and hopefully it will be ready for you. I live down the street from this pharmacy but I will be going to a pharmacy further away from home in order to get better customer service. If you don't mind doing a lot of extra work and perhaps having to come to the pharmacy two or three times in order to get your prescription then this is the place for you. read more

This Safeway sucks balls they bakery is messed up what ever I buy from chocolate cake, cheese cake to bread I get upset stomach and one time I got massive diarrhea! They need to clean the bakery and the employees need to wash there hands on regular basis! Whenever I shop at night the night stocking crews are so rude I never asked them a question or hindering them in anyway but there are always pissed and they make sure that you are aware of it! There selection specially the juice is always high priced it's always disorganized! There deli is okay with the exception of the sandwich area which totally sucks and not only to Safeways standard but probably violation of health code! The cashier it depends there used to be 2 night cashier that where great I think they quit or transfer the new cashiers hate their job in funny way! You don't put cleaning products and fruit in same bag or bread under 12 pack of eggs and bananas wtf! Also be careful they charge you 2X specially if you buy large amount of groceries as they did charge me extra $6-10 I just noticed this time and I been going here for awhile! read more
