A bag boy named Josiah was incredibly rude to a man who could not speak English. He consistently rolled his eyes and even spoke ill of the man to his face, practically yelling in his face for a basket. He pushed the man aside and grabbed the basket from the cart rolling his eyes and sighing as if this man isn't trying his best to communicate. Only at the end did he figure to use Google translate and even then shoved the phone into the man's face to "communicate". Most staff is kind and have given no reason to write a review but I feel that behavior so rude must go reported. I'd normally chalk it up to a bad day but no amount of crappy customers justify the way he treated this man. read more

This deli served us Asian General Tso and orange chicken and both dishes were hard as rocks and completely inedible. Who is in charge there and in fact, does anyone in any Safeway deli actually care about their customers? The one on Steilacoom Blvd, in Olympia, and this store on Bridgeport all serve terrible Asian food. I forgot to follow up here. I eventually found out the price was an expired sale. I failed to see that the date had ended on the tag, so it was my mistake. I just wish that sale date was printed bigger. Seems to be an overall decent experience since that incident. I am now careful and check the expiry dates on all the sale tags. read more

Nice clean location in a nice area. Tried the online order pick-up today for the first time. Met a few challenges/issues the store staff need to improve on. 1. I waited there for over 10 minutes after checking in. I called and they said the groceries were on their way. Maybe at the 15 minute mark an employee finally came out with the groceries. 2. I had 2 items that could be potential problems for the staff.. a 18 pack of eggs, and a pack of pork chops. The 18 pack of eggs were obviously not checked by the staff picking the item.. in fact when I got home it had issues that should have been apparent to them. A 1 inch piece of the carton lid was torn off and direct under it a broken and leaky egg was obvious. And it wasn't recently broken, the white had dried the rest of the egg in the carton, the egg next to it was also dried into the carton. 1 other egg in the carton was also leaky and dried, again the neighboring egg was dried into the carton. 2 other eggs were cracked but not leaking. Soo.. yeah maybe management needs to give the online order fulfillment staff a hour long powerpoint on how to select/inspect eggs. The pork chops.. obviously the bag containing them had been dropped. The staff member did tell me the original carton of eggs had been dropped (yes, surprisingly the carton of eggs I received as a replacement for the one that was dropped).. wonder if it had happened in the same bag as the chops. When I took the pack of pork chops out of the outer bag to put into the fridge.. I realized it was leaking blood everywhere. The foam baking tray had a corner snapped off and the plastic wrap definitely had a tear somewhere. 5 stars for the store. Minus 1 star for the online order fullfilment (the staff was friendly though but a bit upset about the multiple broken eggs and blood I had to mop off my kitchen floor/fridge). read more

The bakery and meat departments are pretty awesome! Just saying! Many grocery stores don't have such high quality selections in the bakery or meat departments. For some reason, the bagels are really fresh and tasty. The meats, especially beef, are prepared by a great butcher or butchers. The taste, texture, and tenderness are what we really enjoy. For some reason, they do not have baskets at the front of the store. You need a giant cart if you want to buy a few quick convenience items. I emailed customer service to ask about them putting some baskets out and that was weeks ago. Never heard back. read more

I'm honestly so surprised by all the bad reviews about rude employees?? I've never had a problem with anyone here! They've all been very friendly and I've been going here for over 20 years. Sure some are a little quiet but they're not rude. My biggest complaint, though, is they haven't had their chicken salad in MONTHS. A 3 out of 5 for this location although I have been here several times I have also found that several times they do not have that items I want or need. They are not even the sale are coupon items they are just random things that I am looking for that I generally cannot find at this store or the other stores locally. Something as simple as bean sprout's for alfalfa sprouts. I do have to admit I love the bakery and the bagels are my favorite explanation quite however they are still a little expensive as opposed to bind a single package from the bread section. I will continue to come when I need specific things or have a coupon for a good deal. This is not my store of choice read more

The DIRTIEST store with the most UNPROFESSIONAL staff. I don't know how anyone shops here!!! It's so gross and poorly ran. I've never written a review about a grocery store!!! this store has left such a bad impression on me several times that I felt the need to write this review. The store is absolutely disgusting. The deli staff doesn't change their gloves. They touch everything and then your food. The lines are extremely long every time I go in there. I stood in line for a really long time. A checker decided to open his check stand and instead of taking someone who had been in line a long time he allowed the new people just rolling up to go ahead of all of us. Honestly the worst Safeway I've ever been to. The selection is crap, nothing is ever stocked, there's never anyone around for help.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich from the deli. The guy that made it appeared to be high he was moving so slow. He had ear buds in and didnt hear my order correctly. He started to make it with sausage instead of bacon. Once it was finally done and we got in the car, my daughter unwrapped it to find a huge hair on the top of the sandwich! I have never had a good experience at this deli and this was the final straw. I won't be returning. read more

I've lived in UP for over 13 years and 10 years ago I would have written a totally different review. I used to LOVE this Safeway. Now however? Today? Was my last straw. The customer service in this Safeway has gone down hill so much, and today while getting sliced deli meat I was met with the most unfriendly person. I'm not special, I just wanted turkey and I said please and thank you more than he even looked at me. Usually having to do with the app And clipped coupon! the store is small and convenient for me but nearly cost me $5 more than I planned on very few items that I'd clipped coupons for in the app prior to visiting the store! The deli department could use retraining. I went in for pound of ham and cheese and they sliced it and shove it into bag without a care in the world. It should be sliced and stacked nicely, not scrunched up causing it to bust apart into many pieces! You may as well ignore Safeway's weekly mailed advertising for this store. No matter what day or time (even 7a.m.) you shop here, they will be out of the best priced items that probably made you want to come to the store in the first place. The one good thing is when shopping before 8 a.m., the store is not crowded. However, only I and a few other shoppers were wearing face masks. Shop at your own risk. read more

I'd consider this Safeway location to be "Just OK". There are nicer ones in the area but not as convenient. It's smaller than a lot of Safeway locations, and when it got remodeled a few years ago to be more upscale, a lot of their staple stock was dropped. So certain things we have to now find at Fred Meyer or Rite Aid. The store is always clean and seems well organized. But at times, the checkout lines can be huge. Once we counted 25 people waiting in line for a single checker! We had to find a manager who apparently just doesn't notice when the checkout line is out of control. And the manager of the produce section is just not nice - I won't ask him where things are or if they have stock on some vegetable I can't find. He's always sullen and gets crabby if you ask where something is that's obvious to him (but you just aren't seeing it). It's a decent store - but we are there all the time because of it being 2 blocks from home. read more

I have lived in U.P. for over a decade, and I am continuously disappointed with each visit. Besides the "normal" extremely long wait times in checkout, limited product choices and availability, along with the lack of self checkouts and lack of checkers available....the quality of their produce has really gone down hill! In one night of buying a cabbage, it started to mold. This is not my first experience with their produce...I'm just getting tired of it! I also have been to their deli multiple times to purchase chicken from their new self-serve chicken wings (which I absolutely love) and have had to change plans because they let their chicken wings sit in the warmers for extended time periods and at too high a temperature so they are all burnt and crispy, really non-edible. I have driven out of my way to the Safeway on 38th street to purchase these same chicken wings because this is not the case with their deli. I actually just visited a Safeway in Kona, Hawaii just 3 weeks ago and their same wings were excellent! I hope other customers will write a review or comment here on their recent experiences with this store so that it may improve. We're all looking at each other while we're waiting in the long lines, rolling our eyes together in disgust, so I know I'm not the only person that is experiencing this! read more

If I could give a .75 star, I would... This place is always a hit or miss with me. Benefits: It's close to our apartment complex, so its super easy to get to and not deal with traffic. Plenty of parking and I usually don't have a problem finding a decent spot. This safeway has a Starbucks inside the grocery store.... Great timing if I need caffeine before dealing with other people with shopping carts... The meat selection is very broad and usually at a good price. I definitaley love the meat counter when they have the kabobs and the butchers special of burgers.. They also have a great beer selection for how big this store is.... Cons: Their vegetables are always a hit or miss... Some day they are fresh right from the truck... Many other times, it's moldy and nasty looking. The lettuce and corn always look sketchy.. So I just stick to the frozen vegetables...which is upsetting.. My last complaint and it's the main one... The finish, the checkout portion... There is always a line, they never have enough lanes open... I understand how this works considering I worked as a checkout person... But this is annoying... The checkers are usually really nice.... never have a problem with them... But it's the baggers... Holy cow, they really need a class and PowerPoint presentation on what, how, and what not to do when bagging groceries. The high schoolers don't give a crap about that the customers or the customers priorities... So every time I have them bag, I end up with smashed bread, crushed boxes, and scattered products.... So now every time I go grocery shopping, I shove the high schooler out of the way and do it myself... They don't care about my groceries so why should I care about their job? I'm not that grumbly, but this is an ongoing issue... Once this kids learn job ethics, Safeway will get their stars back. read more

Safeway on the west coast = good. Safeway on the east coast = low budget. Because I was able to make a comparison, I can say what a gem this location truly is. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. If you are in search of pine nuts and unsure which isle they could be in, you'll be able to ask any staff member and they will help you not only with a smile, but spoken in English as well. Big time plus. Fruit, vegetables, and meat/poultry produce are all well in stock and fresh. You won't find much molded out peaches or dented eggplants. They do a good job of ensuring the quality of everything is impeccable. Fast, friendly service with a great selection of all of your grocery products. Reasonable prices. Stephanie in the floral department saved the day for me!!! The florist who was supposed to do my wedding bouquet apparently lost my order and it was never done, and I only found that out 2 hours before my wedding!! I went into Safeway to get some flowers and make my own, and when I told Stephanie about was going on she made it for me and for a LOT less than any florists I looked into. Plus this store always has what I need, and the other employees are very helpful. Thank you Stephanie!!! read more

I've read all the reviews on here and I don't think some are true. I have shopped at this store for a long time. The lines can get long but that's during rush hour so the lines are long EVERYWHERE. The parking lot is no dirty than any parking lot. There are NOT any nicer Safeway's anywhere!!! I've been to them all. This is the nicest. It's not small, don't think so, go to the one on south 56th street. I've ordered birthday cakes here more than once, never once had a problem. The cake can sometimes by a little dry though. Never had a problem with produce and I buy a lot. I NEVER have been over charged EVER!!! And I also watch the screen and check my receipt. That one I think is a lie. I have only ONCE met a rude employee at this Safeway and that was recent and I never have seen her since. Wow you people complain about the smallest thing. What place is perfect for you? read more

First, the good part of the review. Checker Val was very nice, even sweet! Now, on to the issues. Store is way too crowded, more checkers are needed. Prices are getting very high. Almost every item I bought costs less elsewhere. I almost never go to Safeway, and Quite Frankly I only went there today because I had a gift card. Just moved to Fircrest about three months ago and started patronizing this Safeway. It was annoying in several ways, but I kept going because it is super close to my house. After my last trip, I am done. Fred Meyer is getting my business in the future. On the last trip, I had a few items in my cart already and needed some vanilla extract. Strangely, there was a sign in the baking aisle that the vanilla is kept in customer service. What?? When I got to customer service, I asked why it was there and the clerk said, "That's just where we keep it." Okaaay. But now, after standing in line at the customer service desk for my vanilla (two customers ahead of me), I have to go through the regular checkout (again standing in a slooooow moving line) to pay for my groceries. Why should I have to stand in line twice?? To top it off, when I got home and placed my bags on the floor of the kitchen, I noticed a horrible odor. Turns out it was the shrimp I bought, past its pull date. My husband then had to make a beeline for Fred Meyer because I needed the shrimp for dinner. Other miscellaneous issues with this particular Safeway: super slow checkout, very few lines open (this seems to be a common complaint on Yelp); limited inventory due to small size of store; only about 4 small carts which are never available. Convenience packages of fresh fruit and vegetables are almost always on their last day of freshness and no discount for them. read more
