I am writing a highly conflicted 3-star review because my experience was a tale of two entirely different dealerships. On one hand, the initial sales process with Habby and Kayla was excellent--professional, smooth, and pressure-free. I also really love the car. On the other hand, the finance department subsequently engaged in a deceptive product substitution that has resulted in a months-long administrative nightmare. During my financial signing, I was presented with a digital selection screen explicitly branded and marketed as the manufacturer's official Subaru Added Security (SAS) protection program. I agreed to purchase these official plans for a total of $4,103.00. However, without my knowledge or consent, the finance department switched the finalized paperwork to third-party contracts administered by Fidelity Warranty Services (JM&A Group). When I discovered the unauthorized switch, the Finance Director, Emmir Quiroga, explicitly admitted the discrepancy in writing on April 30th and agreed to void the third-party contracts and convert them to the authentic, backdated factory SAS plans. I signed and returned the cancellation documents that exact same day. It has taken over a month and a formal escalation to Subaru Customer Advocacy, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), and Better Business Bureau just to get a basic status update. It is ridiculous that a dealership requires corporate and state-level intervention just to honor a written agreement. I highly recommend the sales staff here, but look at your final finance paperwork with a magnifying glass before signing. read more

This is for their SERVICE DEPT: After dealing with some hiccups on the dealership side, Grayson, the service manager, was able to make feel better about my decision to do business with Safford. He not only set up an oil change for me, but sent my car over to have it looked over for any issues that might have been missed from the last supposed inspection. Grayson was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and was an a pleasure to chat with. He made me feel like there was someone in the company who I could trust. You can tell how hard he works and how much pride he takes in his work. Grayson is the guy you wanna see when you take your car in for servicing!!! Update: I emailed my original finance guy, Ayham, this morning about what was going on, after not having heard back from anyone else about it. Ayham responded near immediately and made sure to get my email to the right person. A short while later, Susan (I believe she's the bookkeeper) emailed me to let me know she'd be issuing a check for the difference, and putting it in the mail asap. I *should* have contacted Ayham first a few weeks ago, because he got this taken care for me VERY quickly. Patrick, a manager at Browns, called this afternoon to offer his apologies and let me know if I needed anything else to give him a call (and he did this while traveling, which shows great customer service!!). I'm not particularly happy I had to chase down my missing money myself, and I'm not happy about the amount of time it took, but, it was resolved today, and the people who made it happen (Ayham and Susan) are superstars for their quick response!! So, pro-tip - if you have an automatic payment on any trade-in, LET THE DEALERSHIP KNOW and CANCEL IT ASAP so you can avoid any headaches. read more

**DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH LIARS & THIEVES** Used 2018 WRX. I drove the 4 hours from NJ to Virginia, Coming into this I know the car would not be perfect but the main issues should be, as it is from "reputable dealer". I met the finance director Mr. Emmir Quiroga (probably the worst person). We found out at the same time that my wife's title for the trade was not signed by her. He then called someone and asked if I can proceed but the person on the phone stated my wife's signature needs to be on it. Mr. Quiroga hung up, said it should be fine gave me a look & in Spanish instructed me indirectly to sign it as he walked out the room to get "water". (Come to find out later It should not have been signed by me since I'm not the owner, my wife is) I then purchased a two year engine and transmission warranty due to it being a used car to cover me for future event just in case. Exactly 2 hrs into my drive my check engine light come's on due to the car sputtering and not shifting properly I almost get into an accident trying to pull over Thank god an emergency vehicle saw me and pulled up behind me to make sure cars don't hit me. Very upset I then called Mr Quiroga told him of the situation he then instructed me tow the car back 2 hrs back to Virginia at my expense. I told him that option does not make sense. After 45 min I found tow & close Subaru dealership, Ourisman. Their service department closes at 6. I had to get a hotel for the night so they can diagnose the car the day after. I get a call from Ourisman the next morning stating that Safford should not have sold me the car in that condition. That proper maintenance was not done prior to putting the car up for sale, basically Safford Brown just changed the oil cleared the engine codes and shined it up for sale. The cause was the valve body was not functioning properly which would have shown up when checked, as well as the front breaks and rotors were rusted out. A $2500 fix. As per Virginia laws all these things must be done prior to a sale of the vehicle as it is a safety hazard. Ex. I was almost in an accident. I called Mr. Quiroga and updated him and he stated "of course Oursiman wants to fix it" told me there is nothing he can do to call the warranty company which I was shocked by what he said. I called the warranty company, coincidentally come to find out they also do not cover that part which makes no dam sense because they do not consider it a part of the transmission...no words. The amount of frustration I was feeling was something I never felt before. Ourisman themselves then called Safford Subaru told them of the situation and tried to have them DO WHAT'S RIGHT by the customer & have them approve an pay for the fix as it should have NOT BEEN SOLD to me or anyone else that way in the first place. NOT ONLY DID SAFFORD DENY THE REQUEST THEY STARTED IGNORING MY CALLS & OURISMAN SUBARU AS WELL. I called the general line and have them try and transfer me to Mr. Quiroga &/or management nothing. I called the general line again and got yelled at on the phone by an employee, like I was annoying them. I called Eric and he finally picks up puts me on speaker and I can clearly hear a group of voice's as well as Mr. Quiroga on the line but he will not come on the phone. Eric states they well get back to me guess what nothing haven't heard from them since. I had to call Subaru cooperate for them to help me out. Ourisman loaned me a car which they didn't have to to get home. My car had to spend a week at Ourisman fixing Safford Brown mistakes. After all of that I tried calling their general manager and everyone else and they clearly blacked balled my name and number as when I try to call, there's no help. Put me on hold and im ignored or it just hangs up. It feels personal. I definitely will be speaking with virgiina BBB as well as my brother who is a lawyer, if they feel like they aren't doing anything wrong they would not literally ignore customers. What makes this so maddening is if Safford Brown approved the fixes and do what's right by the customer there would be no issues. read more

During our test drive, we were able to bring our baby's car seat and take him with us, which made things easier and gave us a feel for what it would be like to have the car seat in there. The whole car-buying process was smooth and fast, which was important since we had a baby with us throughout the process. We highly recommend asking for Victor. The financing guy, Ayham, was also pleasant to work with and never pressured us into add-ons that we didn't want. Overall, we had a great experience buying a car at this Subaru dealership. July 17, 2024- I took my car in for an oil change and driver-side window repair. After the "multi-point inspection," I was sent pictures of my car underneath and was informed that the valve cover was leaking oil and antifreeze onto the exhaust, causing an unsafe condition. I was informed that there would be a delay for parts, and I was ok with that. I picked my car up on the evening of July 29, and before I was even at the intersection of 28 and Liberia, the low tire pressure light came on. I would think that should have been taken care of during the oil change. It later came to light that the power steering fluid and the brake fluid were almost empty, which I feel should have also been taken care of during the oil change. That is all minor issues in comparison to what was to come. In February, I attempted to check the oil and was unable to remove the dipstick. I asked the garage next to my work to help me, and they also were not able to remove the dipstick. It had been noted that my radiator was leaking and needed replacement, and I was having the work done at the shop next to work as I was unhappy with the sloppy way my car was returned from Safford Brown. During the replacement of the radiator, they discovered that whoever had done the valve cover replacement had reassembled the engine with the dipstick in the tube instead of removing it before tightening down the engine parts. Which was why I was not able to pull the dipstick out. As shown in the pictures below, there are indentations on the engine block and timing cover. In the long term, I do not know if this damage is going to impact the engine. I do not know if there will be leaks or other issues going forward. I went to Safford Brown on Saturday, March 08, and discussed this with Meredith. She made copies of all of the paperwork and pictures and said she would immediately email Christopher Moore, the service manager. She told me that he was away for the weekend but that he would reach out on Monday morning. On Monday, I sent an email with the pictures and received no response. On Tuesday, I called and left a voicemail. It is now Wednesday, and I have had no response. I am completely disgusted that this is being handled this way. An employee of Safford Brown did a shoddy job, caused damage to my vehicle, and took a great deal of money from me. I would certainly expect a different level of concern for this, not to mention that it is disrespectful and rude. I strongly recommend going somewhere else if you care about your vehicle and expect good service. read more

In August 2019, I bought a 2020 Ascent Limited from Brown's Subaru after doing some research and getting out-the-door price quotes from several dealers. They were straightforward in the process; however, the waiting time to work with finance and getting the car prepared was much longer than expected. I liked their customer-service focus which was a welcome contrast to two other dealers where I felt like a "short-term sale" to hit a performance goal. The service department is also generally customer-friendly, but it can get busy if they have lots of walk-ins. I really like the ease of scheduling online appointments, the straightforward check-in process with Trish Montgomery, and very clean restrooms. If you come on a Friday or Saturday, pack your patience and be prepared for a longer than average waiting time. You can choose to wait in the office (free coffee, WiFi connection, and water bottles are provided), or obtain a loaner car (usually a Subaru Outback) if your anticipated wait time is more than 2 hours. The loaner car is a fun way to test drive another Subaru model (usually an Outback). Finally, I appreciate that safety inspections (usually $20) are free if a staff person is available. The only blemish of Brown's Manassas Subaru is leaving. If you need to make a left turn on Liberia Avenue to return to the Route 28 intersection, it can be a dangerous dash across the street. In summary, it is well worth including Brown's Manassas Subaru on your shortlist of dealers. read more

We went in to look at used cars. After agreeing to a price, we started filling out the necessary paperwork to purchase the vehicle. The manager came out and told us to stop because they just couldn't go as low as they had agreed to go. I understand bottom lines. They asked us to meet them in the middle from what we were willing to pay. We agreed then they changed their minds. I just think it's dishonest to do a verbal agreement and have us start the purchase process then change their minds. read more

IF YOU'RE A WOMAN DON't GO HERE BY YOURSELF!!!! I scheduled a service appointment online for my 2023 forester. Last time I had a service they charged me $1500. My previous mileage maintenance package cost $600 and I anticipated this mileage maintenance package to be a similar price. A little bit of background info: Every previous general maintenance appointment I received a loaner car. When scheduling my appointment through their website it offers a shuttle to take you home (pic for proof) since the site said it'd be 3 - 4 hours for them to work on my car. When I got there I asked for a loaner and the guy told me they don't do loaners for general maintenance, so I told him how when I was here previously for general maintenance I got a loaner car and he gave me attitude and said we don't do that. So then I asked about the shuttle and he said we don't have a shuttle so I asked why they offer it when I scheduled my appointment online if they don't have one? The manager Hadley interrupted me and said ma'am I know you're stressed but if you give me a few minutes I can help you out. So I said okay and then the guy who I had been talking to chuckled and goes "you done" so I turned around and walked away to wait on Hanley and the original guy goes "No we're not done you don't get to walk away" so I went back and said then why did you say "you done" and why did Hadley tell me to wait for him? He then asks if I'm going to keep my appointment and if so then to give him my keys and when I give them to him he *GRABS* them from me and walks out to my car. I then decided f*ck this so when he came back in I said I'm just going to leave and took my car keys from him and left. About 20 minutes later I get a phone call and answer it and it's the manager, Hadley, calling to berate me and yell at me for "storming" out and that I can't behave the way I did. When I said sir, there's honestly no reason to be having this conversation because I will never be bringing my car back to your service department and this is incredibly unprofessional. He kept talking over me, completely ignored anything I tried to say and goes "look, I'm just trying to help you out".... NO YOU WEREN'T! You're a 50 year old man who went into a 27 year old girls profile just to get her phone number, call her and use your "position of power" as an excuse to yell at and chastise her. If I was a man the first guy would've NEVER said "you done" to me with a smirk and attitude. And if I was a man HADLEY would've NEVER called me AFTER I LEFT just to act holier than thou and make himself feel bigger. read more

First off, for anyone with a 2016-2023 (any model) and battery issues, tell them to check for parasitic drain from the DCM, and make sure it is replaced no matter what, especially if you are still under warranty since this dealership and Subaru itself won't acknowledge the issue i.e., DCM parasitic draw due to the sunsetting of 3G and its connection to Starlink. Completely disheartened with how Subaru, both corporate and this dealership, handled our 2019 Outback. I came in early morning on a Monday knowing the issue ahead of time (parasitic drain from a known faulty DCM, which they already issued a service bulletin for MY23). Neither the dealership nor Subaru corporate at this time will assist in the costs ($1,000+) for a known faulty part, even though they are assisting other customers across the country. We're fortunate to be able to afford this, but all I can do is think of the numerous people and families who Subaru is ripping off. Not only that, but the service advisor ignored repeated calls for updates and didn't reach out until Friday to say the car was fixed. They also wouldn't confirm if the DCM was actually new i.e., won't be prone to the same issue. They gave me a great offer on my trade in and we're extremely transparent during the entire buying process. this dealership used to be an excellent resource for everything from oil changes to major repairs. We've been loyal customers for years, but unfortunately our experience over the last 18 months has been universally poor. The problem is that key people have left Safford Brown Subaru, and now there are no adults left who communicate with each other. Recently we attempted on two occasions to bring our Forrester in for service and were told one thing by seemingly helpful people on the phone but endured an entirely different reality when we arrived. In both cases, Safford Brown was unable to offer even basic services. And in both cases we were treated to rambilng monologues about how no one inside the organization communicates with each other. Consider the value of your time when you are looking at past reviews in our experience, they were well earned but are no longer valid. Especially do not consider anything Iris tells you over the phone as accurate. I don't think she's intentionally a liar, but she seems inexperienced and does not associate telling people what they hope to hear with action on her part to make those things come true. She's a pleaser with no follow through and will waste your time. The service department is not much better. My wife was treated to a five minute mansplain about how sorry everyone was for failing to provide good service, and that they would treat her like a human being instead of a customer who just "walked in the door". She was promised reschedules and callbacks. None of that happened. It is clear that the employees know they are not doing a good job and we do feel sorry for them. I hope that Safford Brown uses 2024 to rebuild and get their house in order, but for the first time in nearly a decade, we will be going somewhere else. read more

This is a follow-up from my review two weeks ago, which led to another interaction and another great experience: Meredith told me to expect about a 2-4 week wait for the replacement touchscreen to arrive. It came in a little less than 2 weeks, which was great. I had no problem scheduling the appointment for installation. Prior to arrival, Meredith told me it would take 60-90 minutes to install. It took about 75 minutes. Once again, great communication and expectations management. I would wholeheartedly recommend the service area in manassas. We purchased two new Subaru's this weekend from two different Subaru dealerships. I'll have to be honest and say that Safford Brown Subaru beat Sheehy in Frederickburg by a long shot. I feel the folks at Safford really took great care of us and offered the best deal from the start. One thing I've learned this weekend is that if a dealership keeps saying they are honest and transparent, they most certainly are not. If they don't try and convince you they are honest, more than likely, they are more honest. I'm very grateful for our salesman "Bee" and the financing gentlemen, Patrick. They both are truly amazing individuals. Overall, it was a GREAT experience here. I'll also add just about everyone in that building has a shining personality. I'm a little sad I didn't buy my first purchase from them as I feel I would have gotten a way better deal and felt more confident and happy with my purchase. My advice: No need to waste time and gas....just go straight to Safford and get the best deal here! read more

On Feb.5th I took my 2011 Forester in for an oil change, tire rotation and VA safety inspection. The service advisor presented me with a repair estimate of issues that would need to be addressed so the car would pass the safety inspection. I will copy them verbatim. #1 "Exhaust: req for va. CATBACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED for va .EXHAUST LEAK FROM THE BACKSIDE BADLY RUSTED and leaking. ($4310.77)" #2 "Control arm bushings: TORN AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED BOTH. ($1091.92)" #3 "Misc: Cam Carriers. Will fail VA due to oil dripping on the exhaust manifold. ($3983.96)" Item #3 is not a VA safety issue. The Virginia State Police Safety Manual does NOT recognize oil leaks as a safety hazard. The total cost to fix these issues would be $9386.65. I declined having these three items done. I took my car to the inspection station where I normally go and passed. There are no safety violations at the present time. I have delt with Brown Subaru since July 4, 2011, but no longer. read more

I usually don't write reviews, ever, but the way the continuously messed up my car AND my dads car? It costed us so much money. We used to come there frequently for tire realignments for our cars. Other small things as well. But they always over tightened the bolts. My dad had to get his car towed back there so they could fix it AGAIN. He didn't tell me everything that happened, but it ended up with him buying a new car because he couldn't keep up with the damages caused. They mess up other stuff that had NOTHING to do with what I came for. The last time I went, my gas pressure hose was ripped, air vent frame was ripped off, my emergency brake cover was ripped off, i found stains on my leather seats, other things that I came back to back for error after error. They replaced and fixed everything no charge, just they kept breaking stuff so I'd keep coming in. I know many car dealerships do this to women because we don't know what's going on with our cars but this was just obvious at this point. I had to go to the original person who sold me the car (and fixes cars for a living), I don't usually go to them because they're too far, but I needed to. They found MANY errors that ended costing me over $700 of parts and labor and had to leave my car with him for over a week since there was SO MUCH to fix. I moved and I don't ever recommend coming there. I haven't had problems since it was fixed by someone else. read more

TL;DR - Take your Subaru to Stohlman Subaru of Sterling. If you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, it would be easier to throw it out the window than waste your time here. I took my 2021 WRX Premium to have them look at an issue I was having. Both my reverse lights and reverse camera were not turning on when I shifted the vehicle into reverse. After some quick internet research, I noticed that Subaru had recalled a number of vehicles due to faulty reverse sensors that would cause this exact same issue. Having never owned a Subaru before and honestly admitting to my own ignorance here, I figured it would be best to leave this to a Subaru tech. I dropped the vehicle off, went to work, and Bown's Subaru in Manassas called me to tell me my vehicle was done by the end of the day. While my service advisor was very nice, I was handed my keys, charged for what they had done, and told to have a nice day. Not only had the issue not been fixed, but the car smelled of oil and the steering wheel was greasy. Overall, my vehicle was in *worse* state than when I dropped it off. On the paperwork they had handed me, the tech's claimed that they checked the sensor in question, and it was fine, but could not conduct further service on my vehicle for an "aftermarket device" plugged into the cigarette lighter - the equivalent of a phone charger or dash camera. (The device was a melody box - it simply chimes or plays a sound when the car turns on and receives power from a USB plug in the cigarette lighter) The tech stated on the paperwork that they looked up the device in question and saw that it *could* be spliced into the reverse wire and had written that they *assumed* that is what I had done. Good initiative - bad judgement. The "aftermarket device" was located right next to the cigarette lighter, with the wire clearly visible from within the vehicle. The service desk said that they could not touch "aftermarket devices" but I would like to note that I had unplugged it before dropping it off, and it was plugged back in when I picked my car up. I was charged over $170 for a diagnostic I can only assume wasn't actually conducted, told to remove the "aftermarket device," and to return for another look. Because I value both my money and my time, I decided to take the vehicle to Stohlman Subaru of Sterling to have *actual* service done. The issue I was having was identified within the hour as a simple blown fuse and was replaced under warrantee with absolutely no charge. The tech who worked on my car at Brown Subaru of Manassas is either lazy and did not want to conduct the maintenance on my vehicle or is incompetent. I would not recommend this location to anyone and would instead have them drive a few extra minutes up the road to Stohlman Subaru of Sterling. I hope that this review is sufficiently scathing. read more

Best dealer & service shop all-around. We purchased our Outback here because they were able to be absolutely transparent with their prices, stayed professional, and made the entire process a breeze. Not once did they pressure me to buy and didn't waste a minute of my time. There were so many other dealers who were hesitant and outright refused to give the out the door (OTD) price over the phone or email. Look, the DMV is huge. I'm not going to drive all the way out an hour somewhere unless I know the price is within my range. I'm glad I was able to get everything done easily through phone and email at this location. Also, important note! There was a temporary stop sale for the Outback model that we wanted and this was the only dealer that was honest and did not let me test drive the car because of safety concerns. Guess who offered me to test drive the model despite the stop sale status? Other dealers. Goes to show that they value safety above $$. Went to the service shop for the first time and that was such a breeeeeze. Got my appointment done online, checked in within seconds, and everyone was friendly and to the point. My car was taken care of and I was on my out within their promised timeframe. I can go on and on, but if you are looking to join the Subaru life or need a Subaru care, come here. This review is based in the service department. I was going to purchase a new Forester, but the ladies at the service department reminded me that I hate having to deal with them. They are incredibly inefficient and rude. Whenever I go in there they act like I am somehow disturbing them. I own a number of cars. From inexpensive to luxury and I have never had such treatment at any other dealership. They will not be getting any more of my money. read more

These "people" will not leave me alone. I have tried everything to get them to quit emailing me and they continue to spam me almost daily for months after I've told them I no longer need a car. I would recommend not giving them an email address if you ever want any peace. read more

We bought our Subaru Forester here about a couple of months ago and the sales member Erica was awesome, I would give her stars if I could. I'm giving them two stars because they lack in customer service and courtesy in the financial department. My wife and I were both insulted because for some reason they kept asking for our Green Cards but we are both U.S. Citizens. Austin the financial rep that was assisting us kept requesting for our Green Cards and I kept telling him that it would be impossible because we were both citizens so we wouldn't have Green Cards. Our issue was eventually solved, but we never once received an apology or inquiry after my last interaction with Austin when I reiterated my point about our citizenship. So thank you Brown's Manassas for making me and my wife feel less American. read more

We had a great experience here at Brown's Subaru in Manassas. We got a great deal on a 2014 Forester Limited. We had a trade in & got a great trade in value for our new car too. We went on a Saturday & it was pretty busy but we were greeted right away. If you plan on visiting ask for Chris or Kevin. They were both so friendly and answered all our questions. Our finance rep was Lance & he was awesome. Gave us a great deal on extended warranties and was beyond patient with us. He actually encouraged questions! We've actually bought a vehicle a here a few years ago and I was interested in getting a bigger SUV so I called to discuss the Ascent and I wanted to ask about their home delivery option listed on the website. First of all, the sales rep was just flat out rude. I called the sales department and they asked what I wanted and then they transferred me over. So when I spoke to someone again, I asked to talk to sales b/c I kept getting transferred. He gave me a HUGE sigh and re-introduced himself. He then proceeded to "man splain" to me that the Touring models in fact ONLY come with brown interior and then kept telling me that the brown interior wasn't "that bad". A...EVERY OTHER DEALERSHIP has Touring models for 2021 in the black interior. B. this is my 10th car purchased and I really am not going to drop 35-40K with a company that is flat out rude to me. C. don't advertise home delivery and then tell me that the best you can do is to clean the car before we test drive it. We're done here. read more
