the first thing I appreciated here was the customization to start, the menu had many different curries - way more than what you would find at a typical indian restaurant there were 17 main indian curries, and that's not even counting the Tandoori or Vegetarian curries, or even the Mediterranean food The part that was really nice, however, was the customization Each of these 17 curries could have 3 vegetarian options - Vegetables, Tofu, or Paneer, and also another 4-5 different meat options as well I've never really seen this at an Indian restaurant - usually the main 'base' of the curry is already given and you just have to pick the type of curry based on what's provided Since our entire group was vegetarian, it was incredibly nice to have the option to pick any of these curries - so we weren't limited by a bunch of curries that already came with meat. In addition, different people in our group could add different 'bases' based on what they preferred - for example I asked for Paneer with my Rogan Josh, while others in my group asked for vegetables with their curry/biryani As far as the food itself, I thought this was also fantastic Starting with the Rogan Josh with Paneer, it's rare that the gravy is as flavorful as I saw here Normally, the Paneer will be the main focus of the curry - and here I found the paneer to be very good; it was firm and quite satisfying to bite into as it didn't get soggy from the curry like you might see in other places. It had a fullness to it However, I found the flavors of the remaining gravy to also be incredible. There was a rich, deepness to its flavor not found in other Indian restaurants where the gravy is more liquidy and just there to support the Paneer When it came to the Jalfrezi, I really liked the vegetables in here. While I didn't find the gravy to be as flavorful as the Rogan Josh, the vegetables in this were cooked really well and satisfying to eat. I did prefer the Rogan Josh over this, though It's interesting that this and the other curry were both ordered at a 'Hot' spice level - but I found this to be spicier than the other one The naan was also excellent. Several members of our group commented on how soft it was - and having my share of Indian restaurants where the naan is super hard - I found this softness to be excellent. This may have been the best texture of any naan I've had at a restaurant. The softness made it super easy to break apart and envelop the curry with I also quite liked that the curries weren't overflowing with oil - there certainly was some - but it was a reasonable amount The one downside is this place is somewhat expensive. For a curry + naan it'll end up being at least 30 dollars, and one serving of naan might not be enough. I've seen places which give you a lot more curry for a lower price, but I will say this definitely made up for it in quality Also, I thought the naan could've had more garlic on it - it didn't quite really have much flavor We also got a free gulab jamun (x4) at the end of our meal - which was surprising but excellent read more

Saffron Grill is one of my favorite Indian Restaurants in the Northgate neighborhood of Seattle. They make the version of Mango Lassi that I like and you can't go wrong with the flavor and richness of their Butter Chicken. Order this with one of their Naan Breads and it is the perfect meal. If Butter Chicken is too American and basic for you, you should also try their Vindaloo or Madras Masala. Both of these dishes I found to be very delicious and flavorful. Another positive thing I like about Saffron Grill is how they also offer American, Vegetarian, and Mediterranean fare. Don't miss their Crisp Calamari and Samosas if you want to order appetizers. We had an amazing experience at Saffron! We got in late, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and got our order in quickly. The food came out fast and was absolutely delicious--top-notch service all around. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with paneer garlic naan, and it was incredible. The flavors were rich, comforting, and perfectly spiced. We also shared the Greek salad, which was huge, fresh, and so tasty. The price point is very fair for the quality and portion size--you could easily split one of the chicken dishes between two people. Needed to catch up they take reservations but it's a good thing we didn't make them cause my friend driving had to push back our time to meet. Probably go there about 7:30 and they seated us fairly quickly in the bar. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We shared a few dishes family style. We each selected a dish and added the plain naan. The Gyro Platter, Royal Biryani with chicken and Mango Curry with chicken. My go to is Biryani at an Indian restaurant or dal soup. But my friend had alre selected the Birayani. Mango curry was a little sweet for me I should of guessed that and ordered something else but that's a personal preference. Loved the biryani first time having it with nuts in the dish adds a great texture. Can't go wrong with the Gyro platter. Generous servings and we each went home with leftovers of the dish we selected. Always forget how large the space is it was great to see the doing good business on a Friday night. 2.5 if I could but I rounded up. I'm a little confused about the high ratings of this restaurant, but I wonder if it just appeals to the masses more. I'm always suspicious and doubtful of restaurants with an expansive menu and especially one that crosses over multiple cultures. For example, this one has Indian, Middle Eastern and American cuisine on their menu. It is odd to me when you can get prime rib at a place that also serves Aloo Gobi. Food: we got the Aloo Gobi and the lamb korma, and neither was really good. The portions were OK but honestly a little small for the price. The lamb was tough and I just found it to be kind of bland. We did also get the garlic naan and that I found to be really yummy and really large. Service and ambience: the service was fast and friendly. This place was obviously very popular and very hopping on a weekend night. So I guess my opinion is pretty unpopular, but it is what it is. My friend and I come to the Saffron Grill about once a month to eat a late lunch before or after seeing an early movie at one of the many theaters in that area. Both my friend & I love this restaurant because: 1. The food is always delicious 2. The staff recognizes us as regulars 3. Lots of variety in food dishes 4. Service is always excellent 5. I have been coming here for years but I've yet to write a review so this is long overdue. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is spacious and the staff/owner are so kind.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The owner and manager always made sure to greet my mother and I whenever we came in and recognized us as regulars. They would even send us a free dessert, usually baklava, at the end of our meal, which is so sweet. The delicious food and staff is what keeps this in regular rotation for me. My order stays the same pretty much every time I come in. Butter lamb masala, madras masala with prawns, dal soup, and a garlic naan. Butter lamb: rich in flavor and I love how creamy the tomato flavor is. We used to get chicken but when we started coming with my aunt we switched to lamb because she doesn't eat chicken, and I really love how nice the lamb is in this dish. It's not too gamey either which can sometimes steer people away from eating lamb. Madras masala with prawns: I love getting this dish with the butter masala because the flavor of madras is more of an acidic tomato curry rather than a rich creamy curry. I think the shrimp also is a better option in this since it's a tomato vinegar base and not creamy. The shrimp pairs really well in this dish and prawns are always cooked very nicely, not tough and the shrimp are a good size. Dal soup: super flavorful not too thin of a soup which is nice. The lentils are cooked very well not too tough or mushy Garlic naan: it's bread and garlic, what more can I say! It's great to eat with any of the curries here but I love eating it with my dal soup. read more

They were delicious, just what I was craving. Not the best I've ever had of either, but definitely very good, and with a good portion size. We came to Saffron at 4:30 on Saturday as a party of 2. This was my first time sitting in Saffron's bar, which is comfortable, spacious and gorgeous to look at. I ordered their Tequila Junglebird, which was tropical and nice. We split their Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan between ourselves, and left with very happy tastebuds and bellies. Came on a recommendation from a friend for really good Indian food. The exterior gives Applebees vibes and the interior gives Italian restaurant vibes but don't let it stop you. There's an extensive Indian menu and if you're not wanting that, they have some American and Mediterranean food. Tandoori chicken: four big chunks of chicken are given and it has a lot of flavor! It's just a little dry but not like that. The chutney that comes with it is delicious and pairs well with the chicken. Overall a big portion of food. Rose syrup with sprite: I didn't really pick up any rose syrup and it was just sprite to me. I'll probably pass on this next time. Garlic naan: giant portion of naan that's fluffy, slightly salty, and has fresh garlic on it. A must get! Tikka masala: on point and paired very well with naan or rice. It's pretty close to the Northgate Link station, but if you're on foot it'll probably take you about 15 minutes to walk there. If you're driving, they've got a parking lot, which is great. I've eaten dinner there in a group of 4 with family and alone when I was nearby. The service is always quick and the staff are friendly. The restaurant has great ambiance and lots of seating, so it's great for groups. It's a bit pricy so I don't go very often, but I have an overall positive opinion of the restaurant. Is the food the best? Honestly, I'm not an expert in Indian food so I can't tell you if it was truly "authentic" or "the best ever". But I've had average meh Indian food at other restaurants before, and I've tried a couple of things on Saffron's menu and each time I've come out very pleased. Saffron Grill is a family favorite, especially for birthday celebrations! As a party of 6, we had reservations. Traffic was light and we arrived early. We were seated immediately, our server greeted us and fresh ice water and menus were brought. First of all, everything was delicious! The meats were tender, moist and flavorful, the vegetables crisp-tender and the sauces silky. The naan, always a hit, was really fresh, hot and tasty. We never mentioned it was a birthday, but they must have overheard and surprised us with a complimentary dessert which we shared, and they even sang! What did we order? Are here, many years ago with my father and it was one of my most memorable meals ever - I was almost hesitant to go back afraid the experience might not be the same but late evening decision to go to dinner with a friend for a belated birthday celebration dinner - did not disappoint! My friend had the butter chicken and raved over every bite, I had our waiters suggestion and ordered the rack of lamb and it was beyond delicious and exceeded what he promised - I saved every bite. Oh, and I have never tasted on like that! So fresh and it had a unique blend of spices that was a new experience for me . The only problem with this is now when I go back this is what I'm going to want to order the Lamb every time but everything on the menu looks amazing and it is full of tempting dishes. Jeremy was our waiter and we came in quite late not realizing we were there beyond closing, but they were all so gracious and did nothing to make us feel rushed in anyway. We go to this café all the time. We actually live in Redmond , but because we love their food and service so much, we keep coming back here. However, during our last visit, we were very disappointed with the way one of the servers treated us -- her behavior was really inappropriate. We reported the issue to the manager, and he handled it very professionally. He personally took care of us and even gave us a complimentary pudding, which we really appreciated. We're grateful that he listened to our concerns and made things right. Happy hour. Sometimes when you're stuck in I-5 traffic just get off at the Northgate exit and "Go West, Young [One]!" and the very first restaurant you'll see on your right is Saffron. Turn into their free parking lot and once just walk in. Find a seat at the bar or bar table. Happy hour menu includes some wonderful classics including baba ghanouj w/ pita, vegetable samosas (2 per order), garlic naan, chicken tikka (3 tender pieces). The chicken tikka is perfect. Tender, flavorful, with the dipping sauce to die for. We ordered both the garlic naan and the spinach naan. The spinach naan is the best in the Pacific Northwest (without exaggeration). The naan are each larger than a frisbee and come out piping hot. Absolutely delicious to rip into. Order a round of Manny's -- the pints arrive in cold glasses. Had not been here since last January and there were some new faces on the staff but received the same more than welcome. Don't forget to pick up a handful of the fennel mix on your way out.
