Unassuming restaurant in a strip mall with tasty food but prices are high. The restaurant, including the washroom is very clean and there's plenty of free parking outside. However, the inside of this restaurant doesn't look like what's pictured in other Yelp photos. There's a lot of empty space, neutral colours and just looks drab. Although it was dinner time we were the only ones there, so it felt a bit awkward. The menu was different that what's offered online so we asked the server a lot of questions and she was friendly. We ordered the lamb shank and kofta (Iraqi kebab). Each dish comes with your choice of rice or salad. We chose rice (the server informed us that rice will come with a bit of salad, but if you choose salad it won't come with any rice). There are things marked vegan so ordering is easy. The falafel was mid. It was dry and lacking in any noticeable flavours or spices. The koshary is listed as "topped with a spicy tomato sauce" but if there were, indeed, any tomatoes used in the preparation of this item, I would be surprised. It didn't seem to have any sauce of any kind and the whole dish was middling at best. The baba ganoush (or ghanoush- it's spelled both ways on the menu) was not up to par at all. It was neither "smoky" nor "creamy" as described and if it had tahini, again- as described, I would be surprised. It was an alright eggplant dip but I wouldn't describe it as baba, either ganoush or ghanoush. If I had to go here again, I wouldn't reorder any of the things I have tried already in hopes that anything else would be above meh. I'm not in a hurry to return though. read more

Came here, ready to try Egyptian food. This restaurant is located ina secluded place from Aurora Avenue North. As you walk in, a rather spare atmosphere. More of a fast food feel than restaurant experience. Started out with foul, fava beans and pita bread. The beans had a nice spice to them and the bread was good. I felt a bit of a disconnect from the service. I had to wait a longer time before being able to place my order. Service was perfunctory, not a lot of interaction from our server. Since my cherished brother knows of my love of soup, I had to order their lentil soup. Nicely spiced and hot, wish he was here to try it. Tried to order traditional foods. So, got koshary, which was good. Believe it was toned down in spice for the American palate. The lamb shank I ordered was tender. Again, very mild spice.Also, we ordered their Bamya, okra with meat. Don't often see okra on a menu and I'm a big fan. Loved the tender okra, could have eaten more of this dish. Got the um rice pudding. Lovely end to the meal. Overall, nice array of unique dishes. Service struggles to serve food, long waits between dishes. A small establishment, which is understaffed. Come here prepared to wait and have inexperienced staff. Nice array of Egyptian food choices. This place is punching WAY above its weight class. The lamb shank that I got was DELICIOUS. The mint lemonade? Perfect balance between sweet and tart. My meal was amazing. Greek fries seem a little standard though compared to the entrees. I was able to talk to the mom and pop cooks here (slow weekend, got lucky) and they were very nice people. King Tut was previously located by the Lynnwood Transit Center and closed when construction for the light rail started. apparently they relocated and opened in march on hwy 99 and 135th. why didn't i know this? inspite of being johnny-come-late, i rushed over in june and was over-joyed to see my two most favorite items were still on their menu: molokheya soup: it's green, it's chicken brothy, it's garlicky, and it's slippery. personally, i love the texture. i would happily eat 2 bowls of this with some flat bread and call me happy and full. this is highly recommended if you are in for a traditional egyptian dish. alexandrian liver sandwich. another traditional dish. it's beef liver baby! don't turn up your nose. it is seasoned perfectly mediterranean style. it is not the dry icky beef liver your american grandma forced you to eat. highly recommended. other old favorites on the menu: lamb shank kofta hawashy sandwich: highly seasoned ground beef patty in a grilled flat bread. think of it as egyption patty melt but no cheese. i think this is another egyptian specialty there is something about the seasoning that is very different from other mediterranean cuisines. i like it! service is attentive and everyone there is very, very, nice and friendly go there now and try some new dishes. highly recommended read more

This place was a favorite of mine when it was in Lynnwood. One day it was there and one day it was gone, the spot it used to occupy has since been torn down for light rail construction. I was certain it was gone forever and sad that I never got a chance to say goodbye, so I was beyond excited when Yelp informed me it had reopened unexpectedly in a different location. The new location is much bigger and seems brighter inside, but has the same delicious food. Prices do seem to have risen with the times, but that is expected almost everywhere these days. I had my old favorite, the koshary, which is something I have become obsessed with since first having it here years ago. I also opted for the tahini and fava bean appetizers. I could eat the fava beans as a meal itself, and might opt to do this next time. My partner opted for one of the specials, kubba and liked it so much he plans to try to recreate it at home. I was envious of those drinking the mint lemonade at other tables and might have to splurge for this next time. There are so many things I want to try I will definitely be back soon. read more

King Tut Mediterranean Restaurant has relocated from Lynnwood to the North Seattle/Bitter Lake neighborhood. Clearly it was fairly established for a decade as a family run, indie restaurant. My former work site was in Lynnwood for 5.5 years and somehow this was missed on my radar screen. Looks like they were displaced due to the light rail construction in Lynnwood and just opened about two weeks ago. This is in the same strip mall as several other businesses such as Friendship BBQ, proximate to KFC and Ivar's, located along Aurora/Hwy 99 and the Metro Rapid Ride E route. This had been the location of three previous restaurants: two Chinese, one Ethiopian. Hoping being fairly established earlier, they will be as successful at this current location. I stopped in for a late lunch (4/15/22). This was my first step towards normalcy: no masks and attempting solids after a major dental procedure earlier in the week. Friendly and welcoming greeting upon entering. Nice interior where you have the choice of tables or booths. I was provided water and a menu to peruse. Nice background music. While onsite for an hour, aside from myself, there was a two top and then followed by a party of five. Again, all tables including mine were well attended and food ordered came out fairly promptly. Mediterranean is often used as a blanket, all encompassing adjective. However, it can represent a whole host of different regional cuisines. I will use as benchmarks: Petra (Belltown), Caspian Grill (UDistrict), and recently revisited Harissa (Ravenna) to see where King Tut stacks up. I ordered the hummus and pita appetizer ($7.99), Kofta entree ($20.99) and Turkish coffee ($6.99). Clearly I was being ambitious, because the appetizer and entree portions were very generous. I was able to only consume a fourth of the hummus, clearly this is shareable. I enjoyed the pillowy soft pita. The Kofta entree, comprised of three grilled ground beef, lamb, onion, and tomato kebabs, placed atop a generous serving of yellow tumeric flavored rice, and with a nice dressed side salad with lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, and an olive. Tzaziki sauce was also provided in a ramekin. This can easily feed up to two to three people. I really enjoyed the presentation and flavors. I wrapped up my late lunch with the Turkish Coffee service which came with an accompanying sweet, a split date filled with chopped nuts. I was too full, so this was packed up with my other leftovers. However, I did savor my Turkish Coffee. After letting the grounds settle, the coffee had a fragrant cardamon scent. I've only had this type of coffee service at other cafes/restaurants: Coffeemind (Queen Anne), Cafe Turko (Fremont), and Urban Luxe Cafe (Roosevelt) neighborhoods and Tov, an Egyptian cafe/double decker bus in Portland, OR. With tax and tip, my late lunch totaled under $48, but note, I ended up with a lot of packed up leftovers. Takes a lot to open at a new location after being established elsewhere, plus dealing with the new normal of pandemic and inflation challenges. As of today, there were 18 other Yelp posts that didn't pass the algorithm and were relegated to the Not Recommended reviews abyss. I love checking out new Mediterranean spots! Definitely one of my very favorite kinds of food (broad, I know, but I think you get it). Nice big restaurant, very clean and the waitress was very attentive and friendly. I feel like the prices were a bit high, but when I got my meal, it came with fries, which was a nice surprise. Menu doesn't mention any sides, so great! I ordered the gyro as that's the best way I can compare with other places I visit. It was good sized and bursting with ingredients! The meat was flavorful and the whole package was very nice. It's the first time I've ever had cooked onions in a gyro. Didn't hate it but it was different. Their tzatziki was excellent and the pita bread looked a bit odd, but VERY fresh and tasty! Price was a bit high for that too, IMHO. Finally, I did order a cola, and they just brought out a can. I think that could be done in a little bit nicer presentation, maybe with a glass with some ice. If that's not your target audience, I get it, but it felt weird just drinking out of a can at a sit-down restaurant. Overall, it was a good dining experience. I think this place is new, so I'm sure it will improve the more people that patronize it. (You SHOULD!) One other thing I would like to mention, and I hope I'm not coming across negatively here (and again, it's a newer restaurant I think), but the decor didn't really match the middle eastern food. Since it's called King Tut, maybe put up some Egyptian art and take down the metal bicycle art. It is really hard to find Egyptian food as opposed to generic Middle Eastern, so this was quite exciting. We would never been in the area either except we fled the power outage due to the bomb cyclone. Food was really good, although I thought the prices were on the high side. We ordered the Egyptian national dish Koshari, Molokhia soup (another Egyptian specialty), and more typical chicken shawarma plates for the kids. The Egyptian specialties were really great. Molokhia was one of my favorite meals growing up, so this was really nostalgic for me. For those who don't know, it is a soup made from a special herb that is really hard to find here. Not for everyone. My brother absolutely hated it. Kashkari is a combination dish of rice, lentils, fried onions, macaroni plus several absolutely delicious and unique sauces you mix with the dish. We called in an order for chicken Shawarma with yellow rice and extra garlic sauce, the lamb shank with yellow rice, a side of baba ghanoush, extra pita bread and basbousa cake. It is a small, clean restaurant in a strip mall so there is parking available. Service was friendly and they went through the order with us before leaving which I really appreciate. My husband said the lamb shank was good (I do not eat lamb), I thought the chicken shawarma was tasty, liked the rice and garlic sauce. The chicken was moist and pretty good but was cut into really small pieces, I just prefer when it is larger but that seems nitpicky. I love baba ghanoush...unfortunately, theirs was disappointing. Their pita bread was very different from most Mediterranean places. It was an actual pita pocket and we did not really care for it. The olive oil cake was okay but pretty dry. I did appreciate they give you a choice of rice or salad because most places give you both and I always feel guilty because I rarely eat the salad. Our bill was close to $98. If you have not been here yet- you are missing out. Probably the best middle eastern/ Mediterranean spot on the west side. Goodbye mr gyros and shawarma king- this place is the best! We got the chicken shawarma plate- with a side of garlic sauce, an appetizer of regular fries and a Greek salad. Portions were huge and we had enough for another meal. Prices are reasonable for quality and portion side. They have some vegetarian options luckily and lots of fresh sodas/ juice and authentic desserts you dont get elsewhere. The om ali had coconut and was different from what I expected. Excellent crunchy fresh salad and amazing rice flavors. The chicken shawarma was really made with love- last time i tasted these flavors was in the middle east growing up. Lovely lady who seated us and took our order. I was blown away! I just happened across this restaurant close to closing time and they graciously let me in. Coming just recently from nyc I am a little spoiled. The dipping sauce for the falafel was the icing on the cake, and their hot sauce they provide fits perfect with all aspects of the meal. Plus all the appetizers come with pita bread.
