Yeah for me it's as good as it gets. I try to visit a place more than once before I write a review because everyone can have an off day or a not so kosher experience. HOWEVER, that's not the case for Saffron Grill. It's a rare treat, especially in Seattle, to find customer service so warming. Maybe it's a cultural thing....? The owner (I'm assuming) is an older man who I always see at the front of the house making sure things are running smoothly and serving amazing chai tea to the customers who are waiting for a table. He's warm and friendly and I noticed that the staff makes eye contact and gives a nice smile. I've read and ignored the other reviews that don't really have a leg to stand on because they seem nit picky or someone was just looking to over exaggerate. Not to say that that's not their experience, but we all know that the power of opinion on Yelp can go to extremes. With that said, this place is amazing. I've not been to India and there might be a little toss of Americanization in the food here? But it's beyond delicious and if you're not happy with something, they're going to fix it until you are. My husband and I first came here a few years ago and he wasn't happy something about his dish and the older gentleman would not let us leave until he was satisfied. Which speaks volumes for making sure your customer is happy, but more than that, it's like inviting someone into your home and wanting them to eat until their full and happy. Which is the cultural aspect in many cultures globally. Something I can pick up on. Something I appreciate. Even though we were stuffed to the gills and couldn't eat anything else, they brought us a complementary baklava (which is something they do at the end of every meal, or another type of dessert) to sample. I've never been a fan of baklava because I've never had it prepared properly so I was less than ecstatic until I started forking at the crispy golden honey brushed layers of AWESOME! Since then we've come many more times. I love the cocktails, the Naan is hands down the best I've ever had and I've been to many more Indian restaurants to compare....the falafel is amazing, scollops are divinity, and I'm in love with the curry. Even the rice is perfumed and seasoned beautifully. So with that said and based on just over all experience, I give it five stars. Long but here's my review. Disappointed The food was good. the restaurant was clean. But the service was very disorganized. We had a group of 8. The servers brought our food and the waiter wasn't there so they just sat the food randomly where they could find a place. We let them know we didn't know who it was for and he said we would have to ask our waiter. After much discussion and explaining we didnt know what each dish was he started telling us what it was so we could determine who ordered what. Too much confusion. The rice was delivered after all the main dishes rather than with the main dish. Our main dish would have been cold if we had waited on it. I ordered a garden salad with lettuce tomato and cucumber. It was delivered to the table Much later than the rice. I received a dish beautifully displayed with jullien sliced cabbage in the center topped with three rings of red onion surrounded by 4 each bell pepper rings, long thick cucumber slices, the carrots were sliced the same and were pretty thick, and tomatoes. This is not a garden salad as I know it, which is generally delivered before the main course. It is a vegetable plate with cabbage you cant get on your fork. Very strange. Not sure the food was good enough to compensate for the disorganized service. .After months of secretly yearning for and weeks of talking about getting yummy Indian/ME food my friends and I set foot to engage in some culinary exploits.. When it came down to ordering, everyone ordered a bit of everything - Coconut Curry here, Keema Kabobs there. But when it came down to picking an Indian place in Seattle, I read rants about the Mango Curry here, and so it was done - the Mango Curry with Lamb ($12.95) was mine! No more than ten minutes after our orders were placed, the staff brought out endless plates of basmati rice, multiple naan, and all of our entrees. At Cedars, not only are the staff friendly, but the kitchen works at light speed! The naan is literally bigger than your face in both size and flavor, yet won't break the bank being less than four dollars. But the highlight was my curry. Sweet but spicy enough to garner the savory name, the lamb perfectly tender, and the basmati rice far too generous in portion to wrap my mind around. The chocolate halva is awsome as they are the size of biscotti but alot more flavorful of any Indian dessert Ive ever tasted. I'm not much an authority in terms of identifying authentic Indian food, but I do know great service and food when I see it. SG ertainly has both. Muhammed is an awsome owner who ran Cedars and Bite of India.. We recently visited Saffron Grill for a family dinner, and it was a fantastic experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a family gathering. I started with the rose lassi, which was absolutely amazing. The delicate floral flavor was perfectly balanced and incredibly refreshing. We ordered a variety of vegetarian dishes to share, and each one was delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and it was clear that a lot of care went into the preparation of each dish. The owner of Saffron Grill used to own and run Cedars on Brooklyn, one of my favorite places to bring family and friends. My step-children think the Buttered Chicken here is the best they've ever had and they never order anything else. I love the bottomless cup of chai and the tandoori salmon among others. The spinach naan is delicious and filling. I used to go with my yoga students to Cedars on Brooklyn and we would split Mediterranean Salads and Naan and each enjoy Dal soup. We were always greeted warmly and well treated. Recently the academy I work for had a graduation celebration in the long room at Saffron Grill and the students, their families and our staff felt so well taken care of by the staff of Saffron Grill. Great food and hospitality! A beautiful venue and plenty of parking. I recommend the Saffron Bar and Grill unconditionally. read more

Working in Northgate used to mean bringing your own bag lunch, suffering through the Pickle Barrel Deli (bleh), or eating Teriyaki every day. Now, with the opening of Saffron Grill, it's a whole new world! I may even stay in the area after 5 pm! Saffron Grill is our own Cedar's--same menu, same owner, same prices. It's a great and very welcome addition to the neighborhood, serving local workers and tourists at the Hotel Nexus alike. The Saffron Delight appetizer is a great start (love that chicken tikka!) and all of the Indian dishes, especially the coconut curry and the channa masala are really good. I went to this Restaurant in Feb ordered a lot of food mostly non veg . When the food came we felt one particular non veg dish was not to our taste, told the waiter, immediately the owner came ,asked my problem and without any argument took it off the bill. So , I would like to say - the food is ok but customer service is awesome and that really matters to me. Infact on my way out the owner again told me to contact him when we come next time. This sure is a expensive place so I won't go every week or for that matter even the same month, but sure will go again to celebrate my specials. Thank you owner. Hmm. When they brought out patak mango relish in a jar from the grocery store that should have been our cue to go. Food was not authentic at all. My bf is half Indian and we usually go to roti in Queen Anne or spice route or kanishka. This was definitely like Olive Garden for Italian restaurants as another yelper stated. The best part was the mango lassi. This place was weird. We had chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken. The masala had no flavor and the tandoori was GREASY. As we are sitting here waiting for our bill my bf just said "very strange!" Haha!!! Never again. Service was good though! That got the 2nd star!!! read more

WOW...for a picky eater and not so open minded I am surprised my girlfriend could talk me into Indian food. Well we went there on a Saturday Evening, totally packed! I was wondering how it could be so busy. We sat ordered a popular and reccomended dish and it was absolutely amazing! I came here with a couple of girlfriends and we all loved the decor, it is very middle easterny and the music just adds to the ambience. My favorite dish is the chicken tandoori tikka, it was delicious, but we also had the stuffed naan and I was amazed at how flavorful and tasty it was. Maybe more like 3.75 stars. Just a bit overpriced for the food they offer. They have some cheaper items but I almost never order those. The best dishes are butter chicken and coconut prawns, and the garlic naan, which is just a little bit pricier than I feel they should be. But this is Seattle, and everything is more expensive I suppose. Maybe I should upgrade the 3 stars into 4 stars to be fair comparing to other nicer restaurants. The location is convenient, the parking is free, the decor is warm and inviting, the service is always exceeding expectation and the food is delicious. I drove past this spot for years never giving it a second thought. Now I visit 1X+ per week. They must have the best happy hour in town as I can have 1X adult beverage, 1X happy our food item and I still get change from a $20 including tip. The food is pretty much the same as it was at Cedars, which is pretty much awesome, but I find myself going to Saffron a lot less. The atmosphere is just weird. Indian Denny's about sums it up. But the food still rocks and as long as you don't have years of memories of the cramped U-district hang-out with the hour long waits, the chai game and cool Indian music then you will really like Saffron Grill. And on the plus side, you will no longer have to park in that creepy Safeway parking lot. read more

We are new in Seattle from Europe. Indian friend who has been in Seattle for many years invited us to have dinner at the Saffron Grill. At first we hasitated as we are not used to hot spicy food. Our friend assured us that the cusine is mild and deliscious. We accepted his invitation and we were completely surprised at the ambience of the restaurant. Roaches!!! I came out with some friends to have a late lunch, I heard good things about this restaurant so I wanted to give it a try. Had a few appetizers in the bar area and when I went to ask the bartender at his computer where the bathroom was and to my surprise I seen a roach walking right across the floor. Incredible food. Everyone is very friendly including the owner who is often times there. So much experience and amazing food are at this restaurant. The menu has a wide range of different types of food to chose from and having a tried a few different types, all have been great.
