Wow wow wow!! I really can't do Saffron justice with how good it was. First, I just want to express immense gratitude for how they treated our 10-month-old son. They brought him his own water. They brought him a rubber duck to play with. They were so sweet and friendly with him; it was incredible. It made my husband and I so happy! On top of great service, the food was incredible. I think the best Indian restaurant in Winston. I got chicken saag, and it was so flavorful. I couldn't stop thinking about it the rest of the day! Had a pretty good experience overall. The naan was definitely the highlight. It was fresh, soft, and really well done. The other dishes had good flavor, but a couple things missed the mark for me. The samosa chaat was solid, but the texture felt like it had been sitting for a while -- it was extra mushy and didn't have the freshness I was hoping for. The cauliflower dish was similar; the inside was very soft/mushy and there was quite a bit of breading compared to the actual cauliflower. Overall, still a solid meal and I'd give this place 4 stars based on this experience. That said, having recently tried Taza and Curry/Noodle, I personally preferred those spots more from my experience. I'd still be open to coming back and trying other dishes. read more

Ugh. What happened Saffron?!! We went there on opening day when the owner was there. We got Dal Bukhara and Vegetable Korma, both medium spiced. The food was phenomenal. We just did takeout the other day for my birthday, getting the same order. I couldn't eat the korma. It was so sweet and a mushy mess. I saw a few pieces of paneer and a few green beans in it, but that was it except for the weirdly textured sauce. My husband's Dal Bukhara was sweet (it has never been in the past) and just off in flavor. Sadly, we won't be back nor can we recommend Saffron. read more

Nicely decorated clean restaurant. We got the chicken tikka masala extra hot spice level- it was not spicy at all. We got basil naan and garlic naan. Both were nice and crispy compared to other naans we had but the basil was more salty. Per the waiter recommendation we also got the masala dosa. First time in.. didn't really like the waiter hovering over me or my meal pouring my water over my plate. Pacing back and forth because the restaurant was empty.. hurrying me to order. First dumplings were too salty. Then roti was unsalted and the potato masala looked perfect but actually had very little flavor. My lamb vindaloo had large chunks of fat which was about 1/3 of the dish. I probably would not go back.i really wish they could take this to heart as it's meant for improvement and not to be mean. Semi new Indian restaurant with a variety of flavors. This place was pretty unique because it had mixtures of north and South Indian cuisines. The menu was massive, so it's best to come in with a general game plan. We ordered a bottle of red wine, they had cleared out of the cab sauv we wanted. I introduced my friend to an Indian street snack, kofta. Some restaurants let you fill it in yourself, but these were already prefilled, it did make it a little more wet and messy, but overall still good. It was a little too sweet for me, but had a lot of flavor. For my main, I ordered a potato onion dosa, which is a South Indian cuisine. I like that you can rip and piece meal it as you see fit. My friend got the tandoori chicken which was also good and had nice spices. The sauces do have a bit of a kick, so just beware and let your waiter/waitress know. read more

I can back to try the Sichuan Noodles yet again. Though it certainly is not an authentic Indian dish, it is close to the Singapore Street Noodles, which didn't even originate in Singapore, but rather in Hong Kong - rather confusing, isn't it! As before I chose shrimp as the protein, as well as a side of Laccha Onions, Lemon, and Chiles (advise you always get this as a side items, goes with everything), and Vegetable Korma (Navratan Korma). As usual, I called my order in for take out. The order was ready in just under 30 minutes, and I was on my way. These were all great dishes, lead by the substantial taste and texture of the Sichuan Noodles, which is becoming a great favorite - I've had a version of this dish at Jade Garden (perhaps the best), New Sichuan, China House, Mr Lu's and several other spots. The Vegetable Korma has, surprisingly, become another real favorite. Surprisingly because it has a fair amount of sweetness, something I usually don't like in most dishes that are not desserts or fruit based. The sweetness comes from nuts (cashews or almonds), which are soaked in coconut milk, ground into a paste, then incorporated into the base korma sauce. The other items vary but often include potato, green beans, peas, carrot, corn, cauliflower, and may include raisins and other fruit. I would recommend all these items, especially here and at Curry and Noodle. read more

I've been to a few Indian restaurants in the Winston-Salem area, and this was the best of them. While the setting was small and unimpressive, even worse given that I was seated near the door on an unusually cold day, the food was what I'd hoped. An Indo-Chinese tofu dish ordered spicy delivered a fearsome kick with no shortage of flavor. For contrast, I ordered a combination of bread and their house special dal which is served in the style you'd get at a truck stop. It was all fantastic, and the menu was so varied (and labeled for special dietary needs) that I wished I'd been able to try a dose or something as well. Hands down food quality and taste is a 5 star ! On my 5th trip here I've tried a few different dishes and everything is just fantastic. Fresh and flavorful. We even had a visit from the chef to our table last night. The Kadai and vindaloo and masala dosa are my favorites. The place is small inside but turnover is pretty quick and I don't ever see much waiting . The only thing I would suggest they take into consideration is the service element. They just need to send out entrees when guests are still eating appetizers or have just started the apps. This has happened every time I've been. Now I think I'll just not order til I'm done with our apps. The servers are nice but a little stoic. They are a bit slow about the end of meal service. Getting the bill and to go boxes can be dragged out. They are polite though. I see many more meals here in future as everyone I've been with love it too! read more

Great Indian Cafe. On a small side but very quaint. Service is good and friendly. The Cafe in the same shopping center as Harris teeter. The butter chicken was delicious and I would get it again and again. The kadai sauce was very complex and wonderful, I wasn't crazy about the goat but that was a personal preference, I don't like that it's mostly bone, but I know that most Indian goat dishes are like that so I should have known better, I just forgot. We also ordered the vindaloo lamb, it had a wonderful spice to it and I would also order that again. Try the crazy naan! It's buttery with garlic and cilantro and a little spicy. I do not understand why they're combining Chinese in their menu, but that's a thing in Winston-Salem. Just be you. For all I know it's delicious but if I'm here for Indian food that's what I'm going to order. The sauce to meat ratio is perfect, not like oCalcutta where they drowned the meat in a bucket of sauce. We came here and made reservations and were seated within 10 minutes. I had no complaints about it because there were a LOT of people waiting. And parties were leaving because of the very intimate small space of the restaurant. It's a refurbished pizza takeout place - so you can only imagine how small it is. Now, the food. I've heard rave reviews about the place, and was eager to try. It was very delicious, and can attest that the flavors made this one of THE spots for Indian food in the triad. While I wish it wasn't cramped in the restaurant, I'm going to rate this high for the flavors and the very fast quick service. My ABSOLUTE favorite was the dal bukhara . I still think about that dish. The flavor just hit those receptors where it was the perfect balance of umami and savory. Had the Butter Chicken Momos (Dumpling) and Penne Butter Masala Chicken. Both were great and we'd reorder. Had the Anjeer Bhare Malai Kofta. It was okay but little heavy. We couldn't wait to try out this new place after hearing such great reviews. We went early for dinner before the crowd, were greeted by friendly staff & the restaurant was filled with amazing aromas. We asked for suggestions on apps & settled on the Lashuna Chicken Tikka which was roasted chicken chunks served on steaming platter, it was delicious! For entrees we both chose lamb dishes: Lamb Shank Maharaj Royal & Adraki Lamb Chops - served with rice & we ordered some butter naan bread. The lamb shank was similar to an Osso Bucco w/lovely Indian spices & the meat literally fell off the bone. Lamb chops were served w/korma sauce & were the most tender I have ever tasted. We asked for mild spice on our first visit just to gauge the levels & it was perfect for us. The prices were reasonable, the food was served quickly & we will definitely return. The only reason for 4 stars was the need for training staff a bit better: replenishing drinks & not walking to table asking to pay before plates are taken away (very minor in the scheme of things). Wow! Indian food is one of my absolute favorites and I am so excited by this place. They have an expansive menu and everything we tried (and saw other people trying) looked so well executed, beautifully garnished, and the flavor backed it up. We had the chicken 65- moderate portion, super flavorful sauce on tender bits of flash fried but not breaded chicken with bits of fried curry leaves. It was an excellent iteration of a favorite. The butter chicken momos- eight or so momo dumplings in a huge bath of luscious butter sauce, how can you go wrong, it was smooth and silky deliciousness. The chicken tikka masala- my baseline test dish for any new Indian place I try, this was a unique iteration with a good amount of chunky vegetables mixed into the flavorful and rich sauce. In contrast to the butter chicken, with which this dish is often confused or compared, it is more rustic and robust and less silky luxury. We had a masala dosa- an enormous rice crepe served with a savory potato filling and numerous chutneys- it was amazing, I love a dosa and not every place even offers this. I consider a dosa a must get, please try one! Finally, we got the kids chicken tenders and fries and even here was no throw away. The chicken tenders were real, freshly fried in a thick crispy batter, super satisfying and flavorful. Even the French fries were a cut above. Run don't walk, this place is fire. read more

My mouth is literally watering because I looked at the pictures making this review and I need to go back again. This food was amazing and super reasonably priced. I came here after seeing a reel on Instagram and it seemed like everyone else had the same idea. Luckily we got seated right before the rush because it was a packed house. The after working our way through the menu and deciding that we could handle level 2 spice our food came out pretty quick. I will say the water refills could have been quicker but I lived to tell the tale. The noodles were an unexpected surprise that will try again. I was very excited to try this newly opened Indian restaurant in Winston Salem! Saffron opened yesterday evening and I got to go in and try their food for lunch today and it was wonderful! The spices were rich and they used very traditional cooking methods you can immediately tell a difference between their taste palette compared to other Indian restaurants nearby. They do have Jain options! Service was quick the water was always filled. They played Indian instrumentals in the background. I got their cauliflower manchurian for the appetizer and that's when I could tell the taste was so unique. You could see the curry leaves the bay leaves the dried red chilis that were incorporated into the dish. And I got to try their paneer pasanda dish which was also very savory, it was paneer stuffed with cheese and spinach. Butter naan was light and crisp and also nice grainy rice. Overall good food, if you want it spicier I'd recommend getting a 4/5 don't shy away from the higher levels I got a 3 and I would've definitely gotten it spicier. We've only been once so far, but I can still say this was some of the best Indian food I've had in the Triad lately. There are so many things to choose from, but we ended up with the tandoori chicken and one of the lamb dishes, plus naan and the cauliflower 65 to start. I could've easily eaten that entire plate myself. It was amazing. The place is small and since we stopped in without a reservation, so we did end up waiting quite a while, so just something to keep in mind. The food is excellent, and this time we got mild spice level which was indeed plenty dialed down for people like my wife and kid who aren't so tolerant. I want to come back and try the crazy hot level on something. This time we got butter chicken momos and chicken 65 as well, which were both as fantastic as they look, and we also got the masala dosa which was tremendous and came with some lovely dipping sauces. Outstanding food...and we should know after 25 visits in just their first year of being open. One dish we ALWAYS order is Dum Nariyal Prawn Malabari. The prawns are perfectly cooked and the sauce is light and yet full of flavor. Second favorite dish is the Lamb Vindaloo; the lamb is tender as can be, just practically melts in your mouth. Easily the best Indian in the triad: I've been to Noor, Salt and Pepper, Katsuri, Curry and Noodle, Nawab, and this is 100% the best. We made a reservation because we had heard how busy it gets, and glad we did! Stayed busy! We got a mango lassi, samosa chatt, chettinad paneer (hot) and paneer vindaloo (hot). Perfection. The samosa chatt was flavorful, texturally exciting and rich deliciousness. I could have licked the plate. Both paneer dishes were wonderful; we make and eat Indian food often, and like it spicy. We consulted our server (I...think it was the owner/Chef!?!) and he suggested the hot. They have two levels higher, super hot and crazy hot, and as people who ALSO eat very spicy Thai as well, the hot was perfection with heat and flavor going toe to toe. Yes I was sweating, but that's just delicious Indian imo. Vindaloo: bright, spicy, tangy: I'm so glad we had naan and roti!! I have never had chettinad paneer before, and I will HAVE IT AGAIN. It was rich and loosely reminded me of a mole-esk dish. 12/10 incredible. The naan and roti were perfect: exactly what we needed, and the rice was cooked well. Winston, don't mess this up. In my opinion, this is the best Indian restaurant in the triad. So much so, that my husband and I came here 3 times in the month the restaurant opened. There's an extensive menu, and we have now tried multiple items. Personal favorites include the palak chaat, dahi kebab, paneer pasand, malai kofta. The restaurant is fairly small, so depending on when you go, there may be a wait. Food comes out fairly quickly. The tables are a little close together to accommodate the crowd. Service is good, and waiters are prompt. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and return! read more

Word on the street was a new Indian restaurant opened in Winston Salem so I had to check it out! Starting from the service up front was very kind hearted and genuine. The menu is a fusion but also sticks to unique Indian dishes I've never heard of! I ended up getting the nalii nehari which WOW was a show stopped. The lamb was so tender it fell right off the bone. My boyfriend had the bison tikka masala which was rich in flavor as well. Only thing is the spice level I got was medium which tasted more mild to me. So if you're a spice fanatic like me go for the next level from medium spicy. All in all, great restaurant I would definitely come back to try out the rest of their menu! read more

Samosas, Saag, Tandori, the variety of naans, momos & dosas....the food (everything I've tried) has been wonderful. On top of that the service is warm and the servers are kind and professional. Authentic Indian cuisine full of veg and non-veg options including from North, South, and Indo Chinese. Seating is limited but worth the wait. Once we were seated food came fast and was amazing. As an Indian person with really good cooks in the family, I rarely feel the need to eat out at Indian restaurants but heard good things so wanted to check it out and I was not disappointed! One unique appetizer that stood out is the Palak Kale Chaat, so tasty, highly recommend. Gol gappa pani also on point!
