As a native New Yorker, this Halal Food Truck is one of my favorite food trucks in the state. I've been going here for over six years and the consistency with the food and the service is truly commendable. There is a quick turnaround on the order and you can call ahead as well, which is very convenient. There are a variety of authentic dishes ranging from chapli kebab to chicken or lamb over rice. The food was good, the prices were a little higher than I thought but not horrible. It was about $25 for two lamb and rice trays. Came with lamb, rice, some lettuce and a slice of tomato. They had a red spicy sauce and a white sort of tzatziki kind of sauce on the side as well. The location isn't the greatest but it's a food truck and it's consistent. To see two business partners working so well together A+. Their service was above and beyond. The food was delicious...it was nice and hot (temperature) wise where we had to wait and taste. It seem like every bite had a kick (in a good way) but the white sauce was there to cool it down (didn't figure that out until after the fact). First of all, don't let the looks of this place cause you not to try it... It's a janky looking little food truck that's always parked on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive andWaughtown streets, but boy when I tell you, they make the best samosas you will ever eat... they are huge and filled to the brim with potatoes, chickpeas, and they are always seasoned just right! They are also always fried to perfection and the pastry dough is always flaky and delicious! They've got other vegetables in them other than the potatoes and chickpeas, but I'm not sure which ones they are but I do know that they are all delicious because the combination of them make a beautiful melody in your mouth. they are also slightly spicy, but you are given a spicy sauce if that's your thing... I tell you it's my thing! The owner is always kind and helpful when I have questions about the other foods they offer. He offers other items and dishes that I'm sure are delicious, but I have not tried them. I'm just so addicted to his samosas! The prices are also extremely reasonable as each Samosa is only about $3.50. because it's a food truck of course there is no ambience at all. bottom line: you have to try this food truck! For years, I've driven past this food truck without realizing what I was missing! I finally tried it for the first time in January, and I've already been back three times since. My go-to order is the Halal chicken over rice and a side of falafel. The chicken over rice comes with perfectly seasoned chicken, bell peppers, and onions, served on a bed of basmati rice with a salad mix, two pieces of pita bread, and both red and white sauce. The portions are generous, and the price is very reasonable. As for the falafel, it's some of the best I've had in Winston-Salem. It's light, flavorful, and not greasy just the perfect balance. Though I'd passed this colorful food truck a number of times, this was my first visit. It is now located in a lot at 815 Waughtown Street, and has operated in this area for over 5 years! I ordered the Lamb Gyro and a rice bowl with Chicken and Lamb. The food was ready in about 10 minutes, and there was a massive amount of food - easily 5 pounds of food for about $17 - if you can find more for that money, take it! The gyro was loaded, really loaded, with delicious, tender cubes of lamb, with plenty of grilled onions, lettuce and some green pepper, all wrapped in a large, very flavorful pita, smothered in the outstanding house made white sauce - always seen it called Halal Cart WhiteSauce, may have another name. This gyro is different from the Greek version, but is a great sandwich in it on right - and rivals similar street food found in Manhattan - the first place I ever encountered this type food! The Chicken and Lamb Rice Bowl was also very large, with big amounts of lamb and chicken resting of very tasty rice. There are wedges of pita, slices of cucumber, and shredded lettuce - the house white sauce goes really well with it all, including the " salad"! I would suggest ordering additional pita for this dish. Just like the Gyro this dish rivals the NYC street food version found all over Manhattan. As mentioned above the lamb is very tasty, and the chicken was as well, and it bears the characteristic red color coming from a dusting of a tandoori or Kashmiri type pepper mix. I would suggest mixing a portion of the two sauces together for the meat - outstanding flavor combo. Chapli? Seekh? Chana? Tikka? While there might be some unfamiliar names, there are photos on the truck to help guide you along. Chana is a chickpea dish, but I was most confused by the two kababs, Chapli and Seekh. Both are made from chicken, and I tried the Seekh on my last visit, a long ground chicken mixture, skewered and cooked. It has excellent flavor, which I actually prefer over the lamb and the tikka chicken. So tonight I decided to try the Chapli Kabab. These are large, flat, chicken patties, probably 5-6 ounces each, and they give you two of them on top of a bed of rice and salad, plus the delicious white sauce and hot sauce. The Chapli itself has a little more flavor and spice than the Seekh Kabob. It was really good, and with the two sauces poured on top, it makes a great spicy and creamy mixture that will make your nose run and your eyes water. I lived in NYC for many years where you could get halal on every street corner. Moving here was an adjustment because I couldn't get my go-to halal order easily so I was very excited to discover this food truck. I got the chicken and lamb over rice with white sauce with hot sauce in the corner. The hot sauce is brutally hot like even dipping your fork into it will make your mouth water so I got a little in the corner. It tastes just like the carts in NYC which made me very happy. The main difference is in prices - now the rice dishes have increased to $10 a plate. I usually split an entree into 2 meals so I don't mind. It's worth the price. This place has the best food. The lamb and chicken is seasoned perfectly and the sauces tie the flavors in perfectly. It isn't spicy but they have a hot sauce that will spice things up. I came home to Winston-Salem from Indianapolis and I was up for a surprise. This Al-Falah Halal Food Truck was the best I ever had in my life. There is no restaurant in Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina or North Carolina(places I have tried Mediterranean food) that can touch this food truck PERIOD!!!!! No fun giving a nice hardworking guy two stars. Service was fast and portions were generous. The food smells so good while you're waiting for your order. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. I got the lamb over rice. I should have known he wasn't going to pitch the dish I was envisioning out the window of his food truck and he did not. It's not lamb at all but gyro mystery meat diced up and salted to the point it's difficult to eat. The rice is the best part but seems to me to be a little heavy on the curry powder. The other dish I tried was the Chapli kebab. This seems like legit homemade food and is almost good, except for what I think is an excessive amount of curry powder. The white sauce was the biggest disappointment, and tasted suspiciously kind of like ranch dressing which didn't go well with either dish, and the red sauce tasted like some sort of powder whizzed up with water and didn't taste like much of anything but added some heat. Dishes similar to these are available at Indian and middle eastern spots in town, and are delicious, but I wanted to support this place. Didn't work out for me. read more
