I am not the sort of person who would go to a restaurant because of a celebrity endorsement. Indeed, I doubt I've ever considered such a thing in my literally thousands of experiences dining out. But something tickled me about the fact that this place posted about William Shatner and Brent Spiner dining here, despite the fact that their promotional video ineptly fused different Star Trek eras. Having said that, I still wouldn't have eaten here if I didn't think it was going to be high quality Indian food, and it was. The suburban regions of the Triangle are one of the best areas for Indian cuisine in the U.S., but this location in downtown Raleigh is not overwhelmed with direct competition. They've decorated the heck out of this multilevel space and offer a wide variety of regional dishes. Their chai comes with unrefined sugar to sweeten to taste, which I used some but not all of. I was offered a complimentary golgappas shot which was nice, and my vegetable dumplings were mouthwatering. The star of the show though, was a classic. Channa bhatura is one of those dishes that's good even when it's not done particularly well, but when it is done well, the spices tingle and the flavors play off of each other, and the contrast between the freshly fried bread and the wetter chickpea gravy livens up every bite. I thought I might end up with leftovers, but I downed it all. I was a little bit peeved that they charged me extra to substitute rice for a bread, and overall it was an upscale price, but given the overall quality of the experience, I wouldn't hesitate to come back and order any number of exciting dishes.

Came here on a cold snowy day as they were one of the few places open. We decided on a special platter $38 and were very excited when it came out as it had salmon, lamb, chicken and beef with Indian spiced rice. Delicious! The owner Sunny helped us and the service was fantastic. The ambiance is very warm and the chairs were super comfortable. We will be back.

Had reservations for dinner here with husband, son and girlfriend. We started with a mango chili margarita which was absolutely amazing. It seemed too sweet at first sip but then the chili kick hits you in the throat for a perfect balance. I ordered the Kashmiri Kong Paneer under Regional Favorites. I guess I didn't really know what I was ordering because it was more an appetizer than a meal but flavor was great and it was mild spice as I had requested. Husband and son got a more traditional chicken dish -- I forget the name. Husband ordered medium spicy and son hot and both were pleased with their selection. Son's girlfriend ordered a rice dish with bone in chicken pieces on it. She asked for mild spice but hers was quite spicy. We also ordered a gin drink that was fabulous. I'm not usually a gin fan but this particular drink had a unique flavor. Service was good. I would likely return here but order something different.

Budacai recently rebranded as Amrut and they still serve delicious boba tea! While attending a convention downtown we stopped here for some late night boba. The owners greeted us warmly and walked us through the new menu. We ordered several boba drinks. I chose the mango lassi with boba. It was delicious! We enjoyed sipping on our drinks as we walked back to the convention center. Looking forward to returning to try their entrees!

What I appreciated the most was that everything was reminiscent of their original dishes, but with innovative and delicious twists- fusion perfection. We got the: - Four Cheese Truffle Kulcha (sharp cheddar, brie, asiago, chilli, black truffle dust, truffle butter, shishito pepper): Love a good bread moment- this one was cheesy, savory, and buttery; appreciated the contrast from the shishito. Added the roasted garlic and chilli dip upon the servor's rec for an extra cost; it was good, but not necessary- I'd probably skip this next time. - Chaat Mate (purple sweet potato & crunchy kale chaat, crispy okra & tuk aloo chat): Loved this! Such cool takes on chaat, which happens to be one of my favorite Indian dishes. Really appreciated all the elements, such good diversity of flavors and textures- crispy, sweet, tangy, earthy. - Nadru Malai Kofta (lotus stem dumplings, nut based sauce, plain butter naan or steam rice): First off, such a pretty dish! The gravy was rich and creamy; the dumplings were so interesting (strong spice essence). - Nigellaseeds Chilly Olive Naan: Got this because I thought the ingredients for this naan sounded unique- it was decent naan, but nothing mind blowing, would probably skip next time. - North Meets South (elaneer payasam, ghewar, rose, hibiscus, coconut jelly, young coconut): Maybe my favorite part of the whole meal! Loved every aspect of this dessert, which seemed so separate but all came together beautifully. Not too sweet, which was great too. I've never had anything like this before. Service was great. We mentioned to our server that we were rushing to catch a show in an hour, and he was so amenable! Ambiance is really nice, definitely one of the prettiest restaurants around. There's free valet parking in the adjacent deck. 10/10 would recommend!

Orlando took great care of us, made thoughtful recommendations throughout the meal, and struck balance of being attentive without hovering. The food was outstanding. I especially loved the snapper entrée, and both the shrimp and pork belly appetizers were excellent. The biggest surprise, though, was the paneer. Instead of the firm texture you typically expect, it had an incredibly rich, almost ricotta-like quality that was a refreshing take on a staple. We finished with two desserts (I wish I could remember their names), and both were fantastic. Tamasha took familiar Indian flavors and present them in fresh and elevated way. I was really impressed.

It seemed quiet inside on the night that we picked up food, but it was also storming. I personally got the Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Samosas, and Garlic Naan. The Chicken Tikka Masala was really good! It had a lot of creamy sauce, the chicken was tender, and the spice level (medium) was great. I do wish it had a bit more seasoning? But still solid, especially when paired with the gigantic Garlic Naan, which also needed more of a garlicky flavor. The Vegetable Samosas were typical, but I still enjoyed them greatly. My friends got the Chicken 65 and Gobi Manchurian and they were both delicious! While I felt that the Chicken 65 was a bit drier than what I was used to, I loved the Gobi Manchurian! It had the right amount of seasoning, sauce, and spice. Overall, I would probably rate this spot a 4.5/5 stars. Really good food and decent sized portions. I definitely want to dine in next time to experience everything to the max.

"Nepalese and Indian food in downtown Raleigh, near Marriott"…read more With a great location, this is VERY close to the Raleigh Convention Center. We arrived on a Thursday night at 6pm with a group of 5. The dining area didn't really accommodate a group that size, but they made it work by moving tables around, which was nice. The place was not very large, but there was maybe only one other family eating inside. The bathroom was clean. I split two dishes with my son-- salmon tikka masala and shrimp (prawn) saag, both coming with rice. We were given some papadum, I think, as a snack as we waited on the food, along with some spicy dips. Food came in maybe 10 minutes or so, which was great timing. However, I have to say, both dishes we tried were underwhelming. The shrimp was oddly translucent and not very flavorful in its dish, and the spinach in the saag wasn't especially tasty (though it did have a nice spiciness). The tikka masala sauce was great, but the salmon also was pretty underwhelming. We both said we'd probably just get chicken next time and not splurge the extra for the salmon. No dish was "bad", but just we expected them to be delicious and they were just OK. I'm just really surprised given how many people said this was the "best Indian" they'd had. The staff were friendly-- refilled drinks well and were good at answering questions. And the price was reasonable. Altogether, I'll give it 4 stars given the great location, good service, good price, but not 5 given the food was "just OK". Realistically, I probably wouldn't go back-- we have lots of great Indian in Durham and Chapel Hill, so I'd rather wait and get that.

If you're looking for Indian food in Raleigh that delivers on both flavor and overall experience,…read moreSoul Flavorscapes of India is an easy recommendation. This is a 5-star restaurant, but not in a formal, special-occasion sense. It's a more approachable kind of 5: thoughtful, well-executed, and genuinely enjoyable. The kind of place you can go for a relaxed dinner or to host friends from out of town, and still feel confident in the quality of the experience. I went with my husband and a family friend who was visiting, and it was a great setting for catching up. The ambiance strikes a nice balance between polished and comfortable. I especially liked the rich blue tones inside and the overhead lanterns, which give the space a warm, inviting feel. There's also a outdoor patio, though at 96 degrees, we opted to sit inside. I'll admit I didn't do a great job capturing photos, but everything we ordered was excellent. We started with samosas, veg pakora, and beet cutlets (which my husband hadn't had since moving to the U.S. for grad school over a decade ago). We also ordered a mango lassi, the bread basket, malai kofta, balti chicken, and lamb biryani. A few highlights: Portions are generous The spice levels are accurate "medium" and "medium hot" both had a noticeable level of heat, which isn't always the case locally The lamb biryani stood out (my husband said it's the best biriyani he's had in North Carolina) Service was also great. The owner stopped by our table multiple times and was warm and engaging. She even shared how to make a strawberry lassi with our friend, which was a thoughtful touch. One practical note: the restaurant is downtown, and there's a surface parking lot directly next to it that uses ParkMobile, which makes parking straightforward. We're already planning to return.
