We have often dined at the Taste of India in Pensacola, Florida, the same great people own the Saffron Indian Kitchen. We have been to the Saffron Indian Kitchen three (3) times and have enjoyed the lunch buffet and have taken home to Navarre, Florida a carryout twice. The food is wonderfully spiced to make a fantastic dining experience. Great tasting and fresh options! Very friendly, open and prompt service! Loved the samosas to start. The Lucky Buddha beer was flavorful and light. The meal arrived pretty quickly and again great taste and presentation. The lamb Rogan Josh was well made, just the right spice for medium. I had a lamb house made curry was just as excellent! My only reason for 4 instead of 5 was i wanted a mango lassi for dessert or ice cream to tone down my salt and spice level but didn't see any on the menu, was hoping after the meal to see one but didn't. I heard the buzz on this plaza from two or three people. We don't eat Indian food- just limited supply where we hailed However, we decided to give it a whirl. The restaurant was clean, we were seated immediately, and noticed the abundant smell of curry. A good sign. I don't know what we had- The Poil Thampo or a Thalmjs Blonk or whatever it was called- but it was freaking delicious. We had an Indian version of stir fry (NOT similar to Chinese) and a Chicken and vegetables. The chicken was perfectly seared and yet tender, the veggies sliced and cooked to soft but not pasty. The food took a while but all came out hot and "just so" at the same time. Our two meals were enough to satiate share that night and take home for a full lunch the next day. The manager and then owner came to check our table. They were very attentive and the food was far, FAR better than we expected from a strip mall restaurant. Saffron was a big disappointment for us, traveling through on a Tuesday night and having seen the mostly positive reviews. The food we ordered - the papad from the app menu and chana masala from the entrees - was literally swimming in oil, so badly judged on the part of the kitchen staff. I am passionate about Indian food and had been very excited to try Saffron but the overall experience, food, dining room and even the lack of crispness/friendliness of the staff left me feeling depressed for them. The plain rice, included with the entree, was by far the best part of the meal. It was cooked well and earns a star by itself, hence the two star rating. I had greeted the host with a smile and "Namaste!" salutation and he looked almost as though I'd insulted him, his attitude borderline unfriendly in demeanor. I hope this was just a bad night for them but I later asked the cashier if they'd been open long and he said about 7 months. In my view it won't be a lot longer in the future unless they improve greatly from here. What a shame. read more

My family was coming back from the iron bowl and we're very eager to get food. Remembering from last time this very popular Indian restaurant that was delicious we were wanting to go again. Calling at 9 we asked if we could sit down or pick up food when they closed at 9:30. They said we couldn't sit down so we asked to order which they said no as well. We were asking one more thing and they hung up on us. Understanding they just have been tired from a long day of work they could have atleast spoke to us without hanging up on us. read more

The food is really amazing. Get the tikki masala because it's incredible! However I'd recommend getting it to go because the service is not good. Two tables that sat after us got their food before ours. The servers clearly don't have waiter/waitress training and just come up and say "ready to order" with an iPad. They didn't come check on the table either, or offer an explanation for the massive delay for the food. However I'll be ordering to go from now on because the food is so good! read more

The food is isn't as spicy as traditional tandoori fare but the place was clean and staff was attentive. We did not like the tin cups for water, prefer glass so you can see what's in it. read more

I've had Indian food in many places, including Sri Lanka (a neighbor of India), and I must say that Saffron has the best Indian food, service, and environment of any place I've ever been to! Our waiter recommended the Lucky Buddha beer, which we completely enjoyed, and a Lamb Rojan dish that was exquisite. To finish the meal, we enjoyed the recommended mango ice cream, which further continued our commitment to enjoy this restaurant in the future! As an added touch, our waiter volunteered to wheel my mother (who is in a wheelchair) out to my car and help lift the wheelchair into the back seat, which was totally unexpected! I have eaten twice at Saffron in the same week! I wish that I could eat there at the buffet every day. The food is so fresh, especially the potato dishes made from fresh potatoes. The fresh cabbage dish was delightful with the delicate rices (white or the flavored one with chicken) The tandoori chicken is cooked and moist and not over-cooked to be dry and tough. I love to sample the buffet and I try just about everything. I only go through once because I do not stuff myself at any buffet "just to get my money's worth." On the last visit, I was tempted to try the desserts, which I usually skip (for the calories). However, I sampled the fruit in fresh cream, the khee (rice pudding), and the homemade mango ice cream in one small bowl. It was all I needed. The flavors were exquisite. read more
