We choose to celebrate a major life accomplishment at the 5 th Street Steakhouse. After speaking to the hostess about our event, who was less than helpful and actually rude, I went against my instincts hoping to have a delightful meal and evening. Nope. The staff was not welcoming, our party was seated at two tables, close physical proximity, but 40 minutes apart in dining. When asked about the pending meals and excessive wait time, the server blamed a guest and said that it was his fault for ordering the chicken which took 35 minutes to cook. The check included a pre determined 20 % tip for sub par service. On a positive note, the lobster tail was tasty and the restaurant ambiance was cute. If you're looking for a great place to treat yourself or others this is the spot. Amazing outdoor seating area. Very spacious and great ambiance once the sun set. Started with drinks and they were very good. The cocktails tasted great and weren't skimped on anything at all. Had calamari and jumbo shrimp for appetizers. The jumbo shrimp were great and the calamari was good. Ribeye for the main dish, medium rare. This steak was amazing with the side of mash potatoes. Buttery. Soft. Tender. All of the above, this dish was exquisite. I would definitely go back again for the food. The server was very nice and it didn't feel like long periods where he checked on us. Great food and great service! Celebrated a college graduation and the graduate was wanting to eat here for quite awhile and she was very happy with whole experience. We arrived a little early and went to the bar for a cocktail and two of us knew what we wanted and ordered right away while the other two were indecisive. Our table was ready early and my wife was seated while the rest of us waited for our drinks. When the first two drinks came the other two were ordered. My wife was told that the drinks would be delivered to our table but nobody came to the bar to pick them up so I waited for the other two drinks to be made. It wasn't particularly busy at the bar but by the time the last two drinks came and I waited to pay the tab, I decided to take the drinks and tab to our table and handle the bar tab with our waitress. There was a lot of confusion with the bar tab and the bartender even came to our table to find the bill and I told him that I gave it to our waitress and they finally figured it out and added it to our dinner tab. I ordered an old fashion and by the time I finally got to take a sip, it was watered down Everybody else liked the cocktails they ordered, two of which were the strawberry drop. My drink was the only disappointment of the evening. Now, for the good stuff! We ordered onion rings and calamari for appetizers and the onion rings were HUGE! Typically, when they are that big, they fall apart and are messy to eat, but not these. They were very crispy, crunchy, and firm. The chipotle ketchup wasn't too much to write home about but the dips for the calamari stepped in well. The calamari batter was light and crispy and was as good as you would expect from a high scale restaurant. My wife and I shared a loaded iceberg wedge and it was right up there with the best we've ever had. For entrees we ordered two filets, one medium and one medium rare and my wife said her medium filet was the best steak she ever had. My daughter originally ordered her filet well and when the waitress told her that they usually butterfly it when ordered well, my daughter asked what that meant. I stepped in and told my daughter that filets are meant to be eaten medium rare or less and the waitress jumped in and verified, thus the medium rare order and my daughter loved it. I asked for the hazelnut crusted halibut without the crust and fortunately they were able to accommodate my request and it was delicious. Our last entree was the stuffed chicken breast and its appearance was the best looking on our table and my daughter was very happy with that choice. Despite being full, we ordered the dark chocolate lava cake and ice cream and a dessert special of fruit and some sort of cream? I'm not completely sure what it was but it was the favorite of the two. There was a very nice and rustic ambience with great service that made it a great choice to celebrate our graduate. read more

After salivating over the menu at home, we both settled on Nick's Grill - a 6 oz angus filet, garlic mash and blue cheese spinach. So many good choices on the menu! Perfect Birthday Dinner in Chico We celebrated back-to-back family birthdays Saturday and were blown away. On a packed night, the manager Matt found us a cozy booth, and our server Mary (a Chico State alum) took incredible care of us. As parents of a Chico State freshman, it meant a lot to share such a happy evening in this community. We ordered from the birthday specials and everything was excellent. Our daughter's filet with rich au gratin potatoes was outstanding, and my fish special was perfectly prepared. Finally got a chance to try 5th Street after living in Chico for a couple years. Atmosphere and service were both great, and servers knew the menu very well. We love 5th street for special occasions and finally decided to try the happy hour and it was a great deal!! You have to sit in the bar for this. John was our bartender and he was friendly and gave great service. Happy hour had a great cab for $8 a glass. We started with the calamari and bacon jam & Brie! They're both $4 off, great size, and delicious as always. My husband got the prime flat iron steak it was juicy and came with their delicious mashed potatoes and roasted garlic. I love their menu! Visited again March 24th...see receipt. I made a reservation for 430pm (when they opened), and we were the first ones to be seated. The only complaint is they sat us in the bar (the older guy was a bit confused and did not comprehend our reservation was to be in the dining area) but we let it slide. The dining area is very classy... warm and inviting. They also have outdoor seating. We shared the steakburger with bacon and bleu cheese..it was good but smaller than the last time we had it. The crunchy fries are still delicious and well seasoned. We also split the Caesar salad...its basically just greens and a few croutons with parm...very average at best. For dessert we had the banana cheesecake. This is where the restaurant excelled! They added whip cream and chocolate smear to make it more special for the birthday celebration. YUM! This place has a full bar with some great wines and specialty cocktails. The coffee is strong (just the way i like it!). MiNO was our server/bartender and he was so accommodating and friendly. He made our dining experience more special with his excellent customer service. True asset to the restaurant! Reservations are extremely recommended because they are alwaya busy. They also have a happy hour (i think Monday thru Thursday) with food and drink specials at the bar. Next time we are definitely ordering their steaks which are top notch! A very nice steakhouse - very "old school" in a good way. The decor is great (lots of wood, booths etc), the staff are all well trained and super friendly, the drinks are amazing. It is quite loud however, which can be a problem when you're trying to have a conversation - maybe outside on the patio is better for that. For the most part, the food is very good - although my husband did get a steak and it wasn't cooked correctly (and at that price it should be perfect), but the baked potato that came with was great. We've had a variety of the other items - salads were good, as were the appetizers. It's a rich, heavy meal though - I'd really like to try their burger, but it's only offered at lunch and I think that's just on Fridays. read more

We took our daughter here for her birthday and overall found it to be very good, but not excellent. It is a nice place in an old brick building downtown, with wooden floors, bare brick walls, a nice bar area, and some booths as we as tables. There is a nice patio area as well. One bad point about this to be aware of is that the old wooden floors creak and move up and down quite a bit when people walk by. This may be irritating for some. Otherwise, it has a nice decor and ambience overall. The ginger chicken wonton appetizer was very good. 4 stars. I got the Mole steak, to try something different. It was very good but the Mole rub was a bit too spicy, which tended to overpower the meat. The fried onion strings and cheddar mash were very good. One other got a ribeye, very good, and the other got a special which I can't remember but had asparagus with bacon. Desserts were good but a bit heavy-handed and one-dimensional in character, lacking subtlety of flavour or texture. We got a side of grilled asparagus, which was ok but a bit thick and woody. Overall, we'd give 4 to 4.5 stars for the food, but the desserts and Mole rub on the steak bring things down a bit. Manhattan cocktails were excellent. 5 Stars. Service as good, very friendly, and attentive. We're happy enough to go again, but probably would avoid the desserts and Mole steak. 5h Street is the best steakhouse in Chico. It is all great and there is noting not to like. This is an old school steakhouse so don't expect oddly made food or super healthy food, although they have plenty for a gluten free or vegetarian diet. They have a full bar and large wine list. The place is beautiful. I love the outside stone exterior and the outdoor dinning. We ate inside and it was super comfortable and really pretty. It would be great to go there for a special event or with a couple. It is kid friendly and they have high chairs if you need one. The food is great. We love their clam chowder. It is seasoned to perfection. Their blackened shrimp and their shrimp in an amazing sauce is great as well. They have a nice selection of salads. We also love their old fashion shrimp cocktail, I so miss it on menus. Their calamari was ever so wonderful. We had the stuffed chicken breast which I did not think I would love, but I did. It is stuffed with prosciutto and fontina cheese with garlic mashed potatoes and a rich marsala wine sauce. Just wow. As to steaks try the rib eye or the New York steak. Get mashed or some onion rings with it. They know how to make a steak and they are all great meats and have a tab of butter melting on top. It is just so tasty. They also have a 10 oz. rib-eye, with the best, just OMG cheddar Mashed Potatoes, crispy onion strings, in a delicious Molé Rub. We did not have wine, but the list is large and the selection is very nice. For dessert we tried the Dark chocolate Lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel as well as their warm white chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. The service was perfect. From the hostess to our servers, they were so nice and welcoming. They know the menu well and can help you. They are fast but don't rush you at all. Make a reservation because it was a tad crowded when we were there. This is a fine dinning place and we saw a made in cargo shorts and we just thought, who raised you. Don't do that. I came up to visit my friend and wanted to take her and her son out to dinner, this was my mini vacation and I always love to treat myself to a nice dinner on vacation. So we decided on 5th street Steakhouse. First MAKE A RESERVATION! I went on Thursday and it was BUSY! The front was AMAZING! So friendly and accommodating, they found us a table quickly. Jessica was our server and she was phenomenal! The food OMG!!!! 10/10! I got the 6oz Fillet and mushrooms for the table. Along with calamari. I ordered a glass of red wine blend was so delicious. My fillet was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth! The mashed potatoes were okay. The mushrooms were delicious. My friend ordered NY steak I believe or the Rib eye the portion was huge! She said it was delicious and her son got the same as me and said he didn't want to stop eating it was so good! The Ambiance was classy casual and inviting. Dessert didn't disappoint, I got the crème brûlée, my friend got the banana cheesecake and her son ordered the Chantilly cream with fresh berries. The meal and service was 10/10. How this place has 4.3 stars I don't understand. Sat at the bar, had a cocktail which was like syrup, sat with the menu while two other couples came in and sat either side. Both placed orders and got service and when I tried to place an order the server told me to wait while she made my replacement cocktail, which took about 15 minutes and never actually arrived so I left. I went here for the first time to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend. Since moving to Chico, this place has always been talked up as the best restaurant around. I have to say that was not my experience. The atmosphere was fine enough, but crowded; I'm glad we had a reservation to bypass what looked like a rather lengthy wait. I never felt rushed by the staff, but definitely got hopeful looks from the galley whenever one of us stood up to use the restroom. Not really a ding on the restaurant, just something that felt like a subtle pressure that was a bit uncomfortable. That aside, the food was good, but did not match the reputation. Their price point is probably just due to the hype of the place rather than the actual quality of the food. It didn't whet my whistle to the point I'm likely to ever go back on my own, or encourage a friend to choose this place for their own celebrations. It's disappointing I dropped over $150+ on a meal for myself and to treat my friend, and can honestly say I don't feel I got the bang for my buck as promised. read more
