Visited August 11th..see my receipt. I have only been here once in the last few years while in Oroville. I thought I would give it a try before heading out to Grass Valley. I am so glad we stopped in for breakfast! They are always busy for a reason...good portions and friendly service! I had the scrambled eggs with bacon (crispy) and potatoes along with marbled rye toast. Wow - huge portion! Everything was tasty and i am so glad they didn't use a bunch of butter or oil in their food! My friend has scrambled eggs with hash browns ( crispy) and biscuits snd gravy. Another large portion! Both dishes hit the spot for an early breakfast before I had to head out to Grass Valley. We had alot of leftovers and you can't beat the reasonable prices with the portions you are getting! They have indoor and outside seating. They sell pies as well (whole or by the slice). They also serve dinner. I did not see Alcohol on the menu. Thank you Carrie for excellent service! Wasn't bad but wasn't great. Service was nice, Crystal was friendly and more than competent. Food was just food. Wasn't bad but wasn't great. Partner had #3, biscuits and country gravy with over medium eggs and sausage patties. Biscuits were good. Sausage was good too. Gravy was from a dried mix, no fat, no meat, not great. I had chicken fried steak same as above. Chicken fried steak was obviously a frozen product. Too bad. Hash browns were reconstituted. Coffee was good. So this is on the same level as Dennys. Not great but gets you fed. It's really too bad because making food from scratch is actually less expensive for the restaurant and better for the guest read more

Had the BLT and fries for lunch. Great tasting sandwich, good service. Waitress was good about refilling drinks and food came out pretty fast. Fries were crispy outside and tender inside. I ordered from doordash. The food came quick, and it was the right temperature. I ordered the meatloaf. It came with a side salad, mashed potatoes With gravy, And cornbread. The salad was your standard salad, but it was good. The lettuce was not wilted or mushy and it came with a good amount of croutons, And the dressing came on the side so I could choose how much to put on it. The meatloaf was delicious! Juicy with a lot of flavor. I also liked the cornbread. It had a great texture to it, it was a little bit sweet but not overly so, which is the way that I like my cornbread. The only reason I'm taking away a star, was because of the mashed potatoes and gravy. There was a lot of gravy. I should have asked for it on the side. Also, the gravy was OK, but to me, it tasted like it came out of an envelope. The potatoes were also OK, but they tasted like they had been made from potato flakes. I didn't mind the potatoes and gravy, they just were not as successful as the rest of the meal.. The price was very reasonable, I had enough for two meals, overall it was a good meal. This was our third time dining here. Each time the food and service have been great! Not a cheap place to have breakfast, but about on par with other diners in the area. The decor is really cute. Service was outstanding! We never had to ask for our coffee to be refilled, or our water. The server was very friendly. I ordered a senior breakfast with sausage, country fries and eggs. They were very gracious about withholding the onions and peppers. The sausage was delicious, and they didn't skimp on portion size! One disappointment was finding out they don't make their own corned beef hash. But not disappointing enough to keep us from coming back! My daughter and I went back a second time, and I went back by myself yesterday. We were waiting for our cats to be spayed, and we tried to go to Denny's the first time. There were 3 employees outside who told us the restaurant was closed .(we don't know why) . So we asked if there was anything else they recommended and they referred us to the Cow Cafe. We didn't even try for Denny's the second time,or the 3rd! Lol. You won't be disappointed in the Cow Cafe. read more

I ordered the Ribeye Ranchero skillet, and I'm super disappointed. 1) It had no sour cream or salsa (which is listed on the menu. 2) it's supposed to come with bellpeper and onion, I got 5 pieces of diced bellpeper and not a single onion. 3) The amount of grease in the bottom of my plate is gross! 4) asked for the steak to be cooked medium, and it was way overcooked. __FOOD__ I started with a soup, the name of which didn't seem congruent with what it actually was. It seemed like a clam chowder except with ham instead of clams. It was quite good. Everything went downhill from there. My wife and I shared an order of onion rings ($10!). They were apparently made with white onions rather than yellow, making them as bland as could be imaginable. [For the best onion rings around, you'll probably find them at The Boss Burger, located at 2482 Montgomery St, Oroville,] I didn't try the corn bread but opted for garlic bread; I was hoping for some fancy, restaurant quality French bread, but the garlic bread was just made with plain vanilla white toast. My wife had eggs benedict. We know what hollandaise sauce is supposed to taste like -- lemony -- and this wasn't it. In fact, it had no flavor at all; might as well not have been there. So the eggs benedict was a total loss, yet another disappointment. I had a seafood platter. Most of the food was just tasteless. This was particularly true of the corn meal encrusted catfish. I love catfish, so I had expectations. Sadly, this fish was thoroughly, utterly bland. Now catfish is known as a high-fat, fishy fish. I can only guess this was farmed fish (an abomination, that), and seemingly not farmed very well. I could go on, but you get the point. There are some interesting things on the menu, but I can't trust this crew on the execution. I don't expect to return to try again. __AMBIANCE__ Country setting with country music playing. Huge TV in the corner running game shows with the sound turned down: a needless distraction. This used to be a nice family restaurant with good food. Resold, it was a steady decline. After years of eating there, I finally gave up! Too often the toilets for guests were dirty - in the past, I would bring it to a server's attention, and it was immediately cleaned. What would be my last visit, I went into the toilet and was stunned - floor covered in debris, and toilet filthy, very filthy. I attempted to bring it to a server's attention and was informed, "We don't have time to clean those bathrooms." Hmmm, I asked her if she realized the people who used those toilets were also the people that were keeping the restaurant in business. I was met with a shrug. I told her I was now concerned about the cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant, and I was told, "If you don't want to come here, that's all on you!" Okay - good to know. Interesting that the owner's daughter felt it was acceptable to speak to a long-time customer that way. We left, never to return. Since then, I have talked to several people who no longer eat there because of the decline in food, and not surprisingly, interactions with the same server. read more

Used to go there when it was Gold City Grill loved it! Always good service, seasond waitresses that greeted you and if you didn't like something, they would take of it. After a short closure it became the Cow Cafe & Grill . Gve it a try, once for dinner on prime rib night, walked out having not eaten any thing on the plate. Gave it another try for brunch again, messy and greasy. Won't be going back. I have been in Oroville 23 years and believe me I watched good restaurants go bad, bad restaurants disappear. It has been a very difficult place to get good food and maybe one reasons I go out of town to eat. I have one Mexican restraunt here that I frequent and a Chinese Take out in a pinch. PHENOMENAL! First time in town and we stopped here for breakfast. We were seated right away, the Staff was extremely friendly & helpful and the food came out quickly! The food was incredible. My husband got the Meat Skillet which was SO GOOD! So much flavor, absolutely delicious. My daughter got the French toast, which was also so delicious and sweet even without syrup! I got the bacon, eggs, toast & hash browns! Hash browns were fresh, eggs were fresh, the bacon was some of the best I've had $ the sourdough toast was soooo good.
