I stopped in for a meal and saw assorted tapas lining the countertops - it's about 2.80 euros for each piece and can pair nicely with a drink if you want to experience tapas with no pressure. Aged beef, giant steak for two, red wine, low lighting in the dining room back by the kitchen. It was a little warm in the back, but it was tolerable. We ordered a salad, refreshing and crisp, and they brought out some complimentary chorizo bites. The steak was fantastic, it is automatically cooked as the chef recommends, unless you request otherwise (you won't be asked). How the chef prepared it (between rare and medium rare) was fine with us, we are OK with a good sear and red center, but if you like it closer to medium, you may find this to be too rare and should request a longer cook. Seasoned only with salt, the strong flavor of the beef really comes through. We hardly touched the potato wedges, we were so focused on the beef. Wine prices were shockingly good! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! A TOTAL TOURIST SCAM AND DAYLIGHT ROBBERY! Our experience at this establishment was nothing short of an absolute nightmare. When a friend in our group asked to try their fish, the waitress suggested the sea bream, without informing us of the market price and weight of the fish served. We saw an outrageous 163.8 euros for a single fish(see photo) when the bill came. Most of their dishes are in the 20-30 euro range, making this charge completely unjustifiable and a blatant ripoff. When we questioned the price, we were told that the weight of the fish was based on the total headcount of the table(3 people), but only 1 person in our party wanted to order the fish. We were blind-sighted from the beginning and felt tricked into this situation. It's clear they target tourists deliberately, knowing we were short on time and unable to argue as we had to rush off to a show. Their predatory practices left us feeling exploited, humiliated, and furious. This wasn't just poor service--it was outright fraud. This horrific experience has ruined the reputation of Sagardi Group and our impression of Barcelona. Instead of enjoying the city's famed hospitality, we left feeling scammed and disrespected. Such establishments have no place in a city that thrives on tourism. We are formally filing complaints with Sagardi group, Síndic de Greuges de Catalunya and the Directorate General for Tourism of Catalonia to ensure that others do not fall victim to this blatant exploitation. Well they advertise nice looking steak.. So I thought I give it a try.. Went around 6:30 pm only to find out they don't serve dinner until 8pm.. Lame.. Only pre-made tappas. Gave it a try.. No name or description on what they are.. They charge you by the stick. 11 sticks vermuth and water was 34.75 euro.. Vermuth was pretty good. Maybe 2 or 3 out of the tappas were tasty and other was meh... Sardine was definitely way too fishy for me to eat.. Ended up taking a bite and saying oh hell no and spit it out I was disappointed not to be able to try steak and over mediocre tappas and not cheap price left me hungry and annoyed.. We had a memorable experience. The Blonde Dry-Aged Galician beef was delicious. The meat has almost no funk if you aren't into that. I personally enjoy the blue cheese, nutty, rich scents of long aging, but that's not the choice they made with this restaurant. The food is not up to the quality of the price they are charging. Most of the steak was raw, like not rare, but raw (I normally order medium rare) They didn't ask us how we want it cooked, they just made it like that. They only seer the outside and serve it. And when we asked them if they can cook the rest a little more, they just put it in the oven instead of putting it back on the fire, and also this time they over cooked it, so the result was something really gross. Serving the steak like that would be fine if this was some sort of amazing meat that is just so soft and melts in your mouth even one bra, but it was definitely not that kind. I tried to eat one of the raw pieces and after chewing for 2 minutes, just spit it out. Also the potatoes were awful, dry and stale with no sauce. This is just the kind of place that is designed to try to take as much money from you as possible. They say that it's a 1kg minimum before you sit down, but when you go to order they say that the smallest they have is 1.19 kilogram which is a strategically chosen number to sound like it's not that much more than 1kg (.19) but it's actually basically .2 and costs you an extra €15 on the cheaper meat they have. Again I wouldn't care about any of this if it was cooked right. But they gave me a poorly cooked steak on top of this scammy pricing model. I love this little pintxo bar! In a gorgeous part of the city, we stumbled upon this place by accident and wandered inside. The concept is easy: take a plate and help yourself to any of the pintxos you see. All of them are on toothpicks. When you are done, simply show the waiter your plate, he counts up the number of toothpicks, and you pay 2.25 Euro for each toothpick on your plate. A great deal and a plate of these bad boys makes a filling light meal. There are cold items at the bar but watch for hot ones coming out of the kitchen; they are delicious. It's a lot of bread, though, as most items were served on a slice of bread. Sagardi has a nice outdoor seating area as well that overlooks a pleasant square. At night, you can enjoy the music of local musicians (and be prepared to be asked for a "tip" after they perform). read more

OMG. This is why we eat at restaurants. This is an absolutely first rate Basque restaurant in the Forn neighborhood. On weekend nights, the neighborhood is filled with armies of young people. By 10 o'clock Sagardi was filled with Barcelonans - large large parties of Barcelonans. Tables of a dozen. Tables of twenty eight. This is clearly a place where a lot of locals go to celebrate major occasions. The front of the restaurant is a pinxto bar. Pinxtos are the basque take on tapas. These are small appetizers served on toothpicks that come in a huge variety of forms and flavors. You eat these standing up while drinking. Your night's entertainment consists of eating a ton of these. The pinxto bar was mobbed. The back of the restaurant is reserved for sit-down dinner. Expect a grande bouffe. The menu offers lots of choices. But we had one of the specialties of the house: Txuleton. Txuleton is a rib eye steak cut up into small flank-steak like slices, with the entire rib with the extra meat served on the side. It is technically "steak" - but it is not like any other steak you have ever had in your life. 1) It is grass fed rather than corn fed. 2) The small slices are majorly charred on the edges and virtually raw on the inside. 3) They intentionally include the fat and the gristle in generous quantities. The fat and the gristle are the main attractions of the dish - even more so than the meat itself. The fat and gristle are seared into rich cooked perfection. There are four taste elements here. Gristle here the star of the show - a warm rich taste sensation. The Fat is there for a taste contrast There is the almost raw meat in the middle - There is also the Medium cooked meat on the edges. Every slice has a different mix of gristle fat, raw center and cooked edge. This means every slice of your steak tastes different. So your main course is a non-stop carousel of changing carnivorous taste treats. And this is not to speak of the actual rib itself which is sitting like a good sized hammer on your plate. The meat that is still on the rib has its own distinctive taste. Your final taste treats however are going to take some work. Most of the easy meat to get has already been cut off the bone. So expect to have to do some major carving and fighting. The struggle is worth it however, since the bone has all sorts of interesting tidbits. Now that is just the main course - for just ONE of their dishes. What else do they got? They have a fantastic free appetizer that comes to your table automatically of tiny grilled basque chorizo cut into bite size slices. The red grease that comes out of these chorizos is wonderful and way better than the red grease that comes out of a Texas supermarket chorizo. You will be putting your bread to good use sopping it up. They have a nifty lettuce salad with a very light dressing that tastes like spring water with a little vinegar and oil to give it tang. This is one of the most refreshing salad dressings I have ever encountered and is a great alternative to our normal and highly cliched vinaigrette. There was an appetizer of peas and black-eyed peas. There was a side dish of grilled peppers. I have had a lot of grilled peppers in Barcelona in the last few days. These were hands down the best. They were not only beautifully cooked, but the actual vegetable itself was much much much tastier than the run of the mill peppers other establishments served. Sometimes good cooking is picking the right ingredients in the first place. With the best food in the market in your grocery bag, you don't need to do a lot of kitchen tricks later. After the peppers, there was dessert. The earth moved during dessert. Dessert was six chocolate truffles made with basque apple cider. This particular Basque cider is called sagardotegia. (Other spellings for this cider exist.) The sagardotegia flavor is intentionally mixed unevenly in the truffle. Some parts taste chocolate-y. Some parts taste creamy. Some parts have the tart but sweet, alcoholic edge of the cider. I died and went to heaven several times as my tongue found all the different parts of the truffle. If you don't want txuleton or truffle, you can get tons of other dishes. The menu includes a number of dishes involving unusual parts of cows or sheep. There are some fascinating stews involving familiar parts of cows and sheep. There are some interesting looking seafood dishes. And of course, there is the huge number of pinxtos you can find at the pinxto bar. They also have a great collection of Basque hard alcoholic spirits including a number of very interesting looking aguardantes. Do I need to mention they have a fine wine cellar as well? The wine drinkers praised the house red to the ceiling - and these were two fussy drinkers who do not like cheap wine. You can have a whole lot of gastronomic fun at this place. If trying to get some pinchos and cannot go to the Basque country, Sagardi is your chance to enjoy some great food and drinks. Besides the pinchos, you can also try other amazing food from the Basque country, for exaple, the chuleton. The chuleton is a massive rib eye, from a grass fed cow. We came here on the recommendation of our Rick Steves' guidebook and had a lovely late-afternoon bite. The set up was new to us - you are given a plate, and are free to pick out whatever items (all bite sized hors d'oeuvres called pintxos) you want. You are charged for the number of toothpicks you have used at the end of your visit. The snacks are all a mix of meats or cheeses served on bread and tasty. The downside is that nothing is labeled, and even if you ask the staff, you may not get a helpful answer (if you are English speaking tourists like us) - so, expect to be surprised! The wines by the glass are tasty and inexpensive. Apparently, this style of cuisine is prevalent in the Basque region of Spain, and it's worth experiencing here if you're not making the trek there anytime soon.
