I been coming to this place for a while, lately the service has been awful. I set close to the Bar, I had probably one of the worse waiters of my life. Extremely rude and unprofessional. I gave him 5$ tip just out of respect. Regardless it was probably the worse service I had received in many years. I am probably never coming back.

The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping strip and is a very nice and Inviting place. It is very clean well lit and they have booths and tables. The food is all made to order and comes out hot and fresh. The service was good. Bright the food out as it was made and filled up drinks quickly. Well worth it but you are going to pay a high price for good sushi.

Visited Houston for a day on business, Sage 400 was across the street from the hotel thought we give it a try ! We enjoyed the atmosphere grab some appetizers and sushi and the combo rice is a must have with truffle oil let's just say I was sad when we finished it all. The staff was so amazing I get why they have so many regulars coming in.

Miso Chilean sea bass and a lychee martini

The Chilean sea bass was amazing as always! We enjoyed an early dinner for my birthday. It's a must every time we visit Houston.

This place hit all the marks-- service, ambiance, and food. I had just driven straight in from Dallas for work over the weekend and was worried I was too underdressed for dinner. Not at all. They seated me swiftly and gave me a menu. They have really elegant sushi selections here. I ordered the Sunset Roll. The waitress kindly gave me info as I ordered-- "Just an FYI, this is cucumber-wrapped, no rice" and that my upgrade to the crab was an extra $12. The blue fin tuna was really excellent. I liked the way the truffle vinaigrette smelled. It was such high quality after my Buccees binge the 8 pieces was enough to satiate me. I'm coming back to try a cocktail tomorrow night.

So tender, so fresh, great service. I received my dish quickly..miso soup was flavorful and great temperature. Waiter was very kind. The sashimi is the best texture and taste I've had in a combination in a while. Lunch hour was buzzing but still able to get a table. I'll keep this place on my list to come by again.

OMG! The Chilean Sea Bass with miso glaze was perfection! Also ordered the truffle edamame which was good, miso soup with clams which were a little sad/small but good soup base, side house salad which was not worth while (I would skip next time). Service was excellent and quick! Perfect ambience.

A coworker and I sat at a high table in the bar area. The service there from Johnny and the other bartender was Top Notch. They had some homemade blue cheese olives for my Tito's Martini. Drinks were excellent and on time. We started with the Spicy Edamame, and I'll just say, it's pretty spicy, and I like that, but some folks might think it's a little much. We shared some appetizers: The Seared Pepper Tuna Roll that came out like a rose. It was killer, amazing flavor and presentation. The Miso Chilean Sea Bass appetizer was the feature of the night. It is possibly the best Sea Bass I've ever had. Absolutely killer. Pretty good size for two to share as well. We had a few roll recommendations and for the life of me I cannot recall the names. One had a tempura shrimp on the inside, and it was incredible. The other alternated sashimi on top, with the Salmon and Tuna alternating, and it was incredible. I would go on a vacation to Houston just to eat here. The atmosphere was excellent, the service was top notch, and the sushi and Japanese creations were some of my favorite. Well worth the time to eat here.

Why I don't come here more often, I don't know. The food is always great as well as is the service. The vibe a little more hip and adult-ish. Perfect for a date night.

I can't not wait to come back to Katy to experience more of what Akiko has to offer. For some people it could be very overwhelming as you don't know where to start. Now for me...I was a little intimidated at first but after asking the waitress what she suggested...she steered me to a few rolls and items I should give a try. And I opted for a few items off their $7 menu of fatty salmon and tuna which both melted in your mouth. I was sad they didn't have ocean perch a single as I really wanted to try a new fish. I also, grabbed an order of spicy edamame as I have to have some veggies when I dine out. The roll I finally decided to get was I can't remember the name right now, but had all my favorites: salmon, tuna, and cream cheese. I also had nigiri yellowtail as I can't go eat sushi without having my yellowtail fix. I really wish I had (3) stomachs as I wanted to try a few more rolls. But after the Cabernet Sauvignon (3) glasses and the nigiri rolls I had I was too full to consume anything else. I can not wait to come back because it was so much more to partake and try that I know I will have to make at least 3-4 trips to go through the entire menu.

I eat, don't get a drink refill, and there's very little interaction or actual service after that. Then the receipt comes with the tip section circled, stars and smiley faces drawn on it, and "suggested tip" amounts starting at 18%. For minimal service, I personally don't think customers should feel pressured or guilted into tipping nearly 20%. Suggested tips are suggestions, not obligations. Customers should be able to decide what feels fair based on the level of service they actually received. The food was fine, but the aggressive tip expectation leaves a bad impression.

Upon entering the area, there's complimentary valet out front and a nearby parking garage that's in walking distance. The place has a nice, intimate ambiance. It was not crowded and perfect for a 2 person meet up. For a place like this with a signature menu, I went for the chef's choice combo and selection to try out fish that I usually don't try. The lunch special also comes with a miso soup, salad, and hand roll. Everything was fresh and really good. There was one fish that was buttery to taste. Loved it and wish I could remember the name. (madai may have been part of the name?) It was different than the usual yellowtail and salmon for me. Sea bream was also new to me and tasty too. The other surprise was the crab hand roll. It had this flavorful, crunch and the crab was fresh with a slight sweetness to it. That was a great rec by our waitress! Between my friend and I, we also ordered other items to share. The yellowtail crudo was refreshing and we especially love the eggplant nigiri. When it first got to the table, it reminded me of unagi (eel) but it wasn't. The pairing of the eggplant with the sweet, salty umami caramel sauce - so good! I could probably order like 10 of these. For a drink, I got their lychee mocktail. It tastes like lychee in a glass. If you don't lean towards sweet, don't get it. As for dessert, we tried the Japanese Musk Melon. It was like eating a cantaloupe, infused in its own juices. Each bite was so saturated in its own natural juice, that it was like eating the perfect, ripe cantaloupe. For us, it was a great ending to all the deliciousness - light, refreshing, and sweet. Highly recommend this place for lunch on a weekday. Ps.) I have visited this spot for dinner, but the experience was different. I had my kid with me. While the restaurant did accommodate to my child's needs and have child seats, I didn't get to enjoy the experience as much as this time so I'm glad to try Hatch again and really enjoy what they offer. Fyi for anyone who may be considering bringing kids. Also, there is no changing table in the restroom.

I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and had to wait outside in Houston's summer heat 93'F. While there are a few benches, there is very little shade, and guests are not allowed to wait inside. When the restaurant opened, there was no clear system for seating guests. Even though I was first in line, several people rushed in ahead of me, making the process feel disorganized. The biggest issue involved a $300 gift card that my friend had received years ago. She simply asked the staff to check the balance. When the server returned, he told us the manager had cut the card in half and that the entire balance had to be used during that visit. What bothered me was the lack of communication. We were never informed of the policy before the card was invalidated. If that is the restaurant's policy, it should be explained clearly beforehand. As two ladies having lunch, spending $300 was difficult, so we ended up ordering far more food than we normally would. The sashimi was fresh but cut thinly than what I've had at comparable restaurants. The hamachi kama, chirashi, and lobster mac and cheese were good. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was the biggest disappointment. For $10, it consisted of three very small cubes and felt overpriced. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly and professional, which helped salvage the experience. However, between the uncomfortable wait outside, the chaotic seating process, and the poor handling of the gift card, this visit did not live up to my previous experiences. While I have many good memories of Kata Robata, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.

After being seated, I informed the waiter that I would place a to-go order instead. About 20 minutes later, our food was ready. At that point, our daughter woke up, so we hoped to continue dining in as originally planned. I politely asked the waiter if we could finish our meal there. We didn't expect him to continue serving us--we simply wanted to sit and eat the food we had ordered. I had already tipped him on the to-go order. His response was blunt and shocking: "No, you have to leave. The table was given to someone else for a 7:30 reservation." There was no attempt to find a solution or offer an alternative--just a direct order to leave. This was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not busy, and there were outdoor tables and other seating available. We felt incredibly insulted by the attitude. When we spoke to the manager, he simply repeated that the table was reserved and backed up the waiter, without suggesting another table or even asking us to wait for the next available one, until we brought up the point that he could have asked if we have an option to wait for the next table?? Then the manager went ok do you want to have another table just because we asked. What stood out most wasn't the reservation issue, but the complete lack of hospitality, flexibility, or basic courtesy.
