Roast beef sandwich served at the Sage Diner in Olney, VA May 18, 2026

The roast beef in mine and my husband sandwiches looked and tasted like slimy rubber! The french fries were mushy and under cooked, and the ketchup was watered down. Just disgusting food!!!! s

Sometimes a roadtrip need a stop at a local diner and boy did we pick the right one! Heading into VA for a wine pickup & tasting, we knew we needed a solid breakfast or lunch option before we arrived. Cue Sage Diner with a huge lunch menu and all day breakfast. We arrived to a packed parking lot and bustling dining room but were seated right away. Hearing the waitstaff banter with the regulars we knew we'd picked the right place. After perusing the endless menu options we both opted for breakfast - Hamsteak & 3 eggs and Country Fried Steak breakfast - both came with home fries (closer to hashbrowns than quartered potatoes) and toast included. The speed from order to getting our food was lightning quick, even with a full restaurant; I don't think I've had a breakfast order come out that quickly in recent memory so kudos to the kitchen for speed & quality. Great little spot for a bite, worth the stop. Pro Tip: Billboard advertising does work, we picked Sage Diner as our stop after spotting a sign on the highway!

Will absolutely be back. This is a real diner. Walk in and experience the ambiance! It's popular for a reason, but they'll get you in. Have heard considerable about this place, and now can confirm it. You will feel welcome here, and that was the best breakfast I've had in some time. Delicious hotcakes and bacon. Its rural location isn't easy to get to, but if you're in the area roll in. The coffee also is quite strong. Very good customer service. Nice staff and customers alike. This place sets the tone, for a good stop before hitting the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. By all means go here, as a great value too!

Ham Steak with eggs breakfast. Really good!

This place is conveniently located. The interior gives that diner vibe. We were sat immediately and greeted by a seasoned server. The food was tasty and filling. The only negative about the experience was the very off putting smell outside the restaurant. We couldn't put a name to the smell, but it was not pleasant. Very pleased it was inside the place.

I can only review based on breakfast- but that as an outa da park home run. Fair prices, huge portions , perfectly executed with friendly service. And the cherry on top? Rapa scrapple perfectly portioned and cooked. This place rocked it.

This was a happy surprise for a couple of hungry travelers on their way to Norfolk. Our only regret was ordering a cup of the crab soup. All of the food was excellent with the other standout being the pecan pie of my dreams. I had to do a double take at the Bill. One person couldn't eat for that back home.

We happened to drive by and stopped in for breakfast and I am happy we did! The staff were all super friendly and welcoming and our food was delicious. Large portions for very good prices. Will definitely stop again if in the area.

The mac & cheese and sweet potatoes were good. The corn bread, sweet tea and butterfly shrimp were amazing. The cabbage was very mushy, was able to eat some with hot sauce. The seating was comfortable And the restaurant and restroom is clean. The scent of the soap in the restroom was amazing. I would come back but only for the corn muffins.

I took a pic of the "jumbo" scallop entree. The original Basket version is just 4 scallops and fries for $17, that was my original plan. Even though the scallops weren't local, I was encouraged to get the entree version which had 4 more scallops (so 8 total) and an Xtra side, which I chose Mac n' cheese (house made). But this entree version was $31. So for $14 more I got a scoop of Mac and 4 of these pitiful scallops. I'm sorry but that is egregious. That's highway robbery and there's NOTHING added in the entree variant that justifies that kind of price. The basket version, isn't justifiable at $17 given what's here. Not to mention that its not even plated and everything was in a to-go format. There were flies everywhere that kept crawling on me and I was just ready to leave the moment I recieved my food. Softshell crab and the rest of the food is good. But not THAT good. Two basket-type entrees ran us over $70.

The Crab Place -- Crisfield, MD…read more Steamed Crab Heaven, Delivered Across the Country We've been ordering from The Crab Place since our DC days--over 9 years ago--and have continued every year even after relocating across the country to Reno/Sparks. The FedEx overnight shipping for these time-sensitive, freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs is insanely expensive--but so worth every penny. The crabs arrive fat, rich, and impossibly sweet--capturing the inimitable flavor that makes Maryland blues stand out. Don't get me wrong--I love Alaskan King, Dungeness, and Snow Crabs, but only Maryland blues have my heart. The Company puts a lot of love into protecting that perfection: - Crabs are packed in styrofoam crates with bubble wrap barriers to shield them from the dry ice, so nothing arrives accidentally frozen. - Often, they include a few extra crabs, just in case one or two don't meet their own high standards. That thoughtfulness goes a long way. While these steamed beauties are mouthwatering anytime, the prime season is in September, after they've had the summer to fatten up in their shells. That's when they're absolutely bursting with flavor and texture. Having said that, I still can't resist ordering for Memorial Day to officially kick off the summer and in June to honor daughter's annual request for her birthday feast. This is more than a crab shipment--it's a tradition. From coast to coast, The Crab Place delivers a piece of Maryland's culinary soul with quality, care, and consistency. For any true crab lover, this is the gold standard.

The smell of smoke hits you as soon as you step out of the car--which is always a great sign. We were greeted and seated quickly, and our waitress was attentive from the start. She walked us through the highlights and shared a few of her personal favorites, which was a nice touch. We kicked things off with the Oyster Rockefeller. The oysters themselves were nearly perfect, though the dish leaned a bit salty. Still, a solid start. The crab soup was good as well--also slightly on the salty side, which could just come down to personal preference. Now to the burnt ends--one of my go-to orders anywhere. I'm happy to say these didn't disappoint. Like others have mentioned, the brisket was a touch dry but still impressively tender and full of flavor. The BBQ nachos were messy in the best way and packed with flavor--definitely a hit, especially with my son. As for the slaw, we were told it would be "wet," but it's actually on the drier side, so keep that in mind depending on your preference. Overall, a really enjoyable stop with good food and friendly service. We'd definitely come back again.

It's homey inside and I love the decor with various sea and fishing themed items hanging - kind'of reminds me of the way a Cracker Barrel looks. It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. My halibut was grilled and was simple, fresh, and high quality. Really good cut of fresh fish and excellent size and flavor. It was around $34 for the entree. Not cheap, but delicious! Bacon wrapped scallops were good - they could've been cooked a few minutes longer to make the bacon crispy as it was a tad undercooked/soft but still good quality and flavor on everything.
