Real Northeast type diner in Virginia. Seemed Greak American owned. Always wanted to try and finally got me opportunity. This will be a regular stop when I travel US-13 accross the Cheasepeak Bay Bridge-Tunnel again. Dennis is an unreadable greeter and waiter. He definitely made me experience a great one. I had the Country Fried Steak Dinner special with Cream of Crab soup, Mashed potatoes and gravy and Delicious Cole slaw. Dennis brought me corn bread hot and right from oven -- delicious. I had unsweetened Iced tea with lemon to drink. It was an exceptional meal. The building resembles a non-railway car dinner. Lots of tables and booths in two dining rooms. I sat at the counter.,

My wife and I were on our way to our place in Myrtle Beach and were driving down Highway 13 toward the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It was lunchtime, and we passed the Sage Diner, which was packed, so we turned around and decided to stop in. This is not a fancy place, and it seemed like about 99% of the customers were locals. The hostess greeted us and seated us in a booth. Shortly after, a gentleman came over to take our drink order. We both ordered tea. I tried mine and didn't care for it -- it tasted like fountain tea -- so I switched to a soda. For lunch, my wife ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, which came with a cup of soup. She chose the bean soup. I ordered the prime rib sandwich, which also came with fries and a cup of soup; I chose the cream of crab. When the food arrived, it looked pretty good at first. My wife liked her soup, but the meatloaf was extremely dry and had a strange seasoning to it. The mashed potatoes were real, with large chunks of potato in them. My prime rib sandwich special was overcooked and came with cheese. I was expecting thinly sliced, shaved prime rib, but instead the meat was cut very thick -- about a quarter inch -- and was tough. The cream of crab soup was disappointing. The first thing you notice is a heavy spoonful of Old Bay on top. When I dug in, there was barely any crab -- just a few chopped particles, which didn't feel acceptable for cream of crab. I ended up eating the prime rib plain with some BBQ sauce just to get through it. Overall, we don't think we'll be returning. There were a few other places we passed farther down the road that likely would have been a better choice.

Sometimes a roadtrip need a stop at a local diner and boy did we pick the right one! Heading into VA for a wine pickup & tasting, we knew we needed a solid breakfast or lunch option before we arrived. Cue Sage Diner with a huge lunch menu and all day breakfast. We arrived to a packed parking lot and bustling dining room but were seated right away. Hearing the waitstaff banter with the regulars we knew we'd picked the right place. After perusing the endless menu options we both opted for breakfast - Hamsteak & 3 eggs and Country Fried Steak breakfast - both came with home fries (closer to hashbrowns than quartered potatoes) and toast included. The speed from order to getting our food was lightning quick, even with a full restaurant; I don't think I've had a breakfast order come out that quickly in recent memory so kudos to the kitchen for speed & quality. Great little spot for a bite, worth the stop. Pro Tip: Billboard advertising does work, we picked Sage Diner as our stop after spotting a sign on the highway!

Will absolutely be back. This is a real diner. Walk in and experience the ambiance! It's popular for a reason, but they'll get you in. Have heard considerable about this place, and now can confirm it. You will feel welcome here, and that was the best breakfast I've had in some time. Delicious hotcakes and bacon. Its rural location isn't easy to get to, but if you're in the area roll in. The coffee also is quite strong. Very good customer service. Nice staff and customers alike. This place sets the tone, for a good stop before hitting the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. By all means go here, as a great value too!

Roast beef sandwich served at the Sage Diner in Olney, VA May 18, 2026

The roast beef in mine and my husband sandwiches looked and tasted like slimy rubber! The french fries were mushy and under cooked, and the ketchup was watered down. Just disgusting food!!!! s

I can only review based on breakfast- but that as an outa da park home run. Fair prices, huge portions , perfectly executed with friendly service. And the cherry on top? Rapa scrapple perfectly portioned and cooked. This place rocked it.

Ham Steak with eggs breakfast. Really good!

This place is conveniently located. The interior gives that diner vibe. We were sat immediately and greeted by a seasoned server. The food was tasty and filling. The only negative about the experience was the very off putting smell outside the restaurant. We couldn't put a name to the smell, but it was not pleasant. Very pleased it was inside the place.

The Hidden Flavor Bomb in a Strip Mall…read more We stumbled upon this place on our way home from North Carolina, and let me just say, do not let the strip mall location fool you. This spot is a flavor-packed gem you do not want to miss. On a random Wednesday night, the place was clean, bustling, and buzzing with satisfied diners. That is always a good sign. The menu is a glorious mashup of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican dishes. If your taste buds had passports, they would get stamped three times just by looking at it. Our server, who was fast, friendly, and clearly knew her stuff, recommended the traditional Puerto Rican platter. Bless her. This plate was a full-on party. The roasted pork was the kind you dream about--tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The traditional rice tasted like a family recipe handed down for generations. Sweet plantains added just the right touch of comfort, and the cabbage salad brought a refreshing contrast. It had tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and a balsamic vinaigrette. If I had one suggestion, I would swap in white balsamic instead of dark. The taste was spot on, but the color made it slightly less visually appealing. Someone else in our group ordered the Cubano sandwich, which came out looking like it could feed two people easily. It was massive. They only made it halfway through. The fries were served in a little basket, hot and crispy, just the way they should be. Best of all, everything was reasonably priced. If you are in the area or passing through, do yourself a favor. Stop in, loosen your belt, and prepare to leave full, happy, and a little surprised that a place this good came out of a humble strip mall.

We all agreed that we did not want to stop for fast food, which is all we kept seeing along the way. A road service sign led us to this restaurant and we couldnt be more thankful. Coming from NY, we rarely, if ever get authentic soul food, and were not going to pass up on this chance. Located in an unassuming strip mall, Kendall's Kountry Kitchen was a 40 seat adorable restaurant. When we arrived there was a large family party, but the rest of the restaurant was quite empty. After being seated right away, we saw as the restaurant slowly began to fill up. By the time we left, the enture place was full. Our waitress Jemiah (sorry if I am spelling that wrong) was so sweet and welcoming. Our orders for drinks and food were taken right after she introduced herself. We ordered 2 of the fried chicken meals and one pork chop dinner. Each came with two sides and cornbread. We all shared the sides and were able to all try the mashed potatoes, baked apples, collard greens (we got two orders-they were out of fried okra) macaroni and cheese and the corn pudding. All amazing! Our mains were all cooked to perfection, served piping hot and tasted great. The waitress explained that all meals were cooked to order and to expect about a 20 minute wait. (Just something to remember if you are in a rush). Thankfully we had plenty of time and must agree that this is a meal that should be savored and given a generous amount of time to consume. We left nothing on our plates! I also ordered a bread pudding to take home (stuffed from the meal) and enjoyed it on my way home. The food, hospitality and general vibe of this place was refreshing and not something we come across often living up north. We plan to make this an annual stop (to and from) our beach vacations.

Southern home cooking but no chicken livers, asked for fried catfish and was denied, asked for fried trout and again was turned down. Ty said whiting was available which I'm not a big fan of but ordered it. It came out nice & hot but she didn't offer any cocktail sauce nor tartar sauce. Mildly seasoned breading, nothing spectacular. My dinner party ordered pork chops and cheeseburger, both mediocre. Ty waited on the next table over and she didn't deny them catfish and gave them a choice of cocktail or tartar. When we asked for a refill, again she said they're out.... Blatant racist mocking by staff - unacceptable experience…read more I'm posting this after taking time to process what happened. In the moment, my priority was de-escalating and calming my father. I'm now documenting this clearly. Friday, April 24, ~1:15-1:25 PM My father ordered an iced vanilla latte and food at the kiosk. When our order was called, an employee said "we are out of vanilla" with no explanation. When I asked what options were available, she rolled her eyes, gave a dismissive response, and walked away. I asked for a refund. A second employee then stepped in and handled things professionally, explaining alternatives. I appreciate her. However, another employee approached us and repeatedly mocked us, saying: "Chong chong chong, are you guys fighting, what are you saying?" I asked what she meant, and she continued. My father, who is not fluent in English, was clearly uncomfortable and had to raise his voice to tell her to stop. This was unprovoked and unacceptable. For identification: the employee had a name tattoo on the inside of her right wrist (starting with "T," possibly "Tammi"). I expect management to take this seriously and address it. No customer should be treated this way.
