Brand new (10 days old) Mediterranean BYOB on the main drag in Phoenixville, just down the sidewalk from Iron Hill Brewery. Quite large, with two rooms, only one of which they were using on a Friday evening. But that half was largely packed with a generally older crowd. Large windows out onto the street give it an open feel, and the tables are comfortable and well spaced. They are only just open, so I'm not going to make a lot of comments so as to let them get their feet under them first. I did very much enjoy the Linguine Bolognese I ordered as an entree. Nothing particularly unusual about it, but well prepared from fresh ingredients. Just be aware that the entrees are VERY large. You will be taking home a doggy bag! There are some obvious areas for improvement, such as the gratis bread that I thought was better suited for a hoagie. The small shrimp appetizer was lost on a huge plate, and the hummus was rather flavorless. Average quality, large thick wine stems. They'll open your wine for you, but then they made no attempt to keep our glasses filled. The menu has a lot of pasta, fish and some veal, so choose wines accordingly. Service was competent and friendly. They accept CCs. Parking on the street or in local metered lots. No website or Facebook page that I can find yet. read more

I came back from a long trip, and I'll I wanted was a good salad! I've driven by Sage multiple times and it always seems busy so I figured I would try it out. We started with some soft bread and butter. Simple but good. French onion soup: cheese was pungent, soup had no flavor, just not the greatest :( Sage salad: sweet pineapple (some of the best I've had), cranberries, light raspberry vinaigrette, smooth goat cheese on a huge bed of greens... A great summer choice The chicken kababs: considering this is a Mediterranean place, we had to... The chicken was so tender and everything on the plate had so much flavor. I loved it. My sister and I stopped in here after a full day of shopping. Service - The service was fast and attentive. Within about two minutes of being seated, our bottle of wine was opened, we had menus and our water water glasses filled. Food - First of all, the place is BYO which was a huge plus! The portion sizes were HUGE! I had enough for dinner, a midnight snack, and lunch the next day. We started with the grilled calamari and it was light and seasoned well. I would recommend it! I got the Seafood Jumbalaya and it was delicious! Full of rich flavor and definitely full of seafood! The rice was cooked to perfection - not too hard and not too mushy. My sister got the linguine with seafood and it was also full of seafood and flavorful! We both were really satisfied with our meals. For lunch we had Taouk chicken wrap and shawarma chicken wrap with hand-cut fries...All done perfectly! We loved the seasonings and the thin flatbread used for the wraps was a welcome change from generic tortilla wraps or thick pita type wraps. My favorite local restaurant. I can't say enough good things about the food here. It's always fresh and always amazing, and I always leave happily stuffed. You can't go wrong with the Chilean sea bass or the smoked salmon fettuccine. The sauce is to die for. I subbed the pasta for risotto and will probably keep ordering that dish until the day I die. I was given a Greek Salad with no feta, served said he had to chew out chef to get the feta - it's even on the menu, feta. My Baba Ganoush came and the vegetables were so few I wouldn't have been able to eat 1/2 of the dish with what was provided, there were 2 carrot slivers the size of a quarter. When I asked for more veggies, specifically more carrots and cucumbers I got a plate that was still so sparse you may have been able to eat another 1/4 of the dish, with carrots still maybe the size of quarters, but so small I could have used my thumbnail instead and no cucumbers. All of the veggies were small, it was absurd. I specifically asked for separate checks and was given 1 check. I won't go back. Plus $$ would mean moderately priced at the most, their specials are all $24++. Should be $$$ or $$$$. read more

Michael has always been super pleasant and helpful, however, it is a white table cloth restaurant so when we go on a Tuesday or Sunday night I don't appreciate seeing tables without them, looking like I'm going into a diner. The portions are typically large and commensurate with the price but from the last time we went, earlier this month, compared to now, the prices have gone up significantly, 20% or more. Came in on a Saturday night no reservation- no problem getting seated but we did (party of 4) wait for at least 10 minutes just to be acknowledged standing there. But we were seated right away at about 7 pm. It was busy but not crowded. This is important to remember Then we had 3 different servers try to take our drink order. Then food started arriving at our table ( we hadn't ordered anything). It was for another table but they weren't sure which one. We explain to the server that it's our first time here we came because of the positive reviews on yelp. He seemed proud and ready to showcase what makes this restaurant the best. We ordered the grilled calamari and the falafel platter for apps. These came out and were delicious we were so excited for our mains! But then started to notice. No one has checked on us. Water was being refilled they seemed to have just servers who just refill water walking around. But haven't seen our waiter in a long time. 20 minutes after our appetizers were cleared we still haven't gotten our main and no drink refills. And we are being completely ignored by the waitstaff. We are seeing larger tables seated after us being served we are now at 45 minutes and I'm getting antsy because we have tickets for a special movie showing at the Colonial. I finally find the waiter and have a word about the meal timing. He said the were slammed in the kitchen and it would be 2 more minutes. 10 minutes later we got our meals. Anything we ordered off the Mediterranean menu was really good. I had the Lamb kabobs, my hubs had the beef shawarma, the boys had a pasta dish and a chicken dish. The boys didn't care for theirs. The large chunks of garlic mostly turned them off. I don't what went wrong internally for our experience to go so poorly. But it wasn't a stellar experience. It seemed only larger tables with elderly patrons got attention. It was busy but it wasn't packed and our stable shouldn't have been delayed after others. read more

I had dinner here with my boyfriend on a whim a few Fridays ago and we both enjoyed the experience. It was not terribly busy (but not empty), and we were seated in the front room at the table of our choice and introduced to a very friendly and helpful waitress. The staff also opened our BYO wine immediately and gave us ample time to look over the amply-sized menu. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was light and crispy with a very good sauce, and then ordered the jambalaya and a shrimp pasta dish. Though both of us are typically good about finishing our plates, neither of us could get through more than half our entrees since the portions were huge. Fortunately, they were just as delicious reheated for lunch the next day! What struck me as particularly interesting about Sage is that it seems difficult to pin down on the scale of "Casual" to "Upscale." It is certainly not what I would consider fine dining, but on the other hand, it is not exactly casual, either. There is lots of glassware and silverware on the tables, and the prices range across a surprisingly wide spectrum. I don't get any of the hype around this place. We came in as a party of 4 and waited nearly an hour and a half to finally get our entrees. If your kitchen staff cannot handle a busy Saturday night perhaps you should only keep one side of the dining area open. We were't the only ones that waited that long either, the group next to us also had a long wait time. In a nutshell, the service was insanely slow for all aspects of the meal. Luckily we were in good company and the wine was flowing so I wasn't getting nearly as irritated as I normally would have. My entree was just ok. I ordered the linguine pescatore and the shrimp/mussles/clams were plentiful and pretty decent actually. What threw me off was the cold canned crab placed on top of everything. It was gross to say the very least. It did not need to be on there; the entree would have been much better with it off. Had it been warmed or even just fresh crab that would have been ideal. My friend ordered a dish with risotto that just looked like wet rice. Risotto fans probably would have been offended. All in all, I think this place needs to focus on an identity, go either Italian or Greek and put your focus into one of those. Greek may be the way to go; Italian places are everywhere. The menu really needs to be shortened, I can't stress that enough. Focus on fewer, fresher ingredients instead of trying to fit everything on the menu. read more

Sage was recommended to me by a fellow Yelper and she was spot on! We met good friends for a double date last Saturday and Lucille was our waitress. She was a hoot!! Sage is BYOB and the food was amazing. Perfect combo! My husband had the calamari as an app and the duck for dinner and I had the seafood trio. It was so delicious and flavorful. We loved this restaurant when it was Olive in Royersford, PA. The food is DE-LI-CIOUS! My husband and I are vegetarians and so we had salad and pasta. I had the Penne Asparagi in a cognac sauce and I cannot stop thinking about how tasty it was! The pasta portions are HUGE and everything is so flavorful. The herbs and spices in the dish really gave it a fresh, bold taste. The chef also served us complimentary salad, which was great! The place is clean and the atmosphere is nice. We were strolling through Phoenixville last night looking for a good place to eat, and noticed the Sage menu in the window. So we stopped in to try it out. So glad we did! We were on the "early" side of dinner hour, so had the pick of the seating. Soon enough, others rolled in, but we had the best seat (near the window!) We ordered grilled calamari as an appetizer and it was delicious! My dinner pal showed me how to mop up the luscious garlickly oil juice as we munched on the fresh, light calamari (not fried, which we appreciated.) I also ordered the French Onion Soup. Recommended!! So crispy around the cheesy edges, and not a ton of salt. The cook must have put a touch of sage into it, which worked beautifully. I have traveled extensively, and this French onion soup was among the best I have ever had. Just perfect, even though Swiss and Provolone cheese was used, and not the traditional gruyere. (One slight improvement might be to add a splash of good cooking sherry to the soup before serving, for added flavor.) I also ordered the Mixed Mediterranean appetizer plate, which the manager adjusted to also include babganoush. Excellent! I especially loved the goat cheese and the tabouleh. The baba was also great---smoky and smooth, light and creamy with the slightest hint of tangy bite. Yum!! The hummus was also very good. Smooth, creamy and flavorful. A bit more garlic and lemon might have given it a bit of zip (to my personal taste), but overall, I recommend it highly. Super fresh! The rest of the menu looked wonderful, too. We were having a tough time choosing! Yes, there are many Italian dishes offered--which of course, are ALL Mediterranean--but we stuck with the soup, salad and appetizers as we were not super hungry when we arrived. Even so...the food portions we received were very generous! I brought home a doggie bag that will make for an exquisite lunch later today. Highly recommended. Good value. Attentive wait staff. Overall disappointing. We were greeted warmly and we enjoyed a very good appetizer. I ordered the shrimp risotto with lemon sauce and when it came out, it was just white rice and shrimp. I politely commented my disappointment to the waiter who told me that changed their "risotto" to not include any cream or cheese because they got complaints about it and people did not eat it. Hubby and I decided to try Sage Mediterranean last night. I'd been wanting to go there for a while as I love Mediterranean food. We like supporting local businesses when we can and I have really been wanting to work my way up Bridge Street since there are so many restaurants in Phoenixville now. We like to go out to eat once a week so working our way down Bridge Street is a doable venture. Still, it's kind of scary to try a new venue when you know for sure where you can get a good meal. I'm guessing we probably eat a meal out in the $75-$100 area once or twice a month. The other two times we usually keep it under $50 or go out for breakfast which ends up being around $35. To start with we asked our waiter for appetizer suggestions. We settled on one he suggested - the crab stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. We specifically asked if the dish would be enough for two. The waiter said it would be. I don't know about you but 2 medium sized stuffed shrimp was not satisfying. It came on a very large bed of undressed spring mix. We should have been urged to ordered two appetizers. I'd been helping our son move into his new apartment and was hungry as heck! You know when you are so hungry you'll eat just about anything? Well, hungry as I was the shrimp were not all that great. For dinner my husband ordered another special recommended by the waiter, Linguini Fruit de Mer. The sauce was bland and starchy. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. The shrimp still had the tail shells on them which my husband did not like. The waiter never came by to give him grated cheese or even ask if he wanted any. The salmon had a nasty frozen salmon flavor. My husband does NOT like fish that has been frozen. We both thought the waiter, although very polite and nice, ignored us. I ordered the Greek Salad and Shrimp Scampi Appetizer as a main course with a side of asparagus for my dinner because I like eating a lot of vegetables. -The Greek Salad was nothing special. I order it frequently at many, many restaurants. I expected a typical lemon, garlic, and olive oil dressing. Instead it was dressed with what tasted like maybe an Italian salad dressing? There was no description of the salad on the menu. There were two tomato wedges, two 1/4" thick diagonally cut cucumber slices, a few kalamata olives scattered around and maybe 4 pieces of feta. It was disappointing to say the least. -The Shrimp Scampi was not a true shrimp scampi. It tasted more like a shrimp picatta with a very big lemon flavor and capers. The flavor was great if you were ordering shrimp picatta. The primary flavors should have been butter, olive oil and garlic with all other flavors taking a back seat (lemon, white wine, crushed red pepper, parsley, etc.). Again, the shells were left on the tails. I can vouch for how annoying it was. -The asparagus, like the shrimp appetizer, came on a large bed of spring greens. It was $6. Once I removed all the lettuce I was left with about 1/4 cup of asparagus. It had been grilled, which was fine, but the stalks were so thin I could barely stab them with my fork. Picture a cocktail straw and you'll have a pretty good idea of how thin the spears were. The waiter forgot to bring us the tea we had ordered to drink with dinner. We ended up telling the busboy who reminded the waiter. He brought it out at the end of our meal with an apology. It was not hot. This was the time when we would normally have been thinking about coffee and looking at the dessert menu. Considering the the poor service we got and the unfulfilling meal there was no way we were staying for dessert and coffee. It took forever to get our check. When we did we were happy to pay and leave. Since this place is BYOB I couldn't help but wonder if everything might have been a bit rosier if we'd had a few glasses of wine. We had a nice time with one another even if the dining experience wasn't so great. During the meal we both wished we'd either gone to Il Granaio down the street or The Olive Tree in Lionville. read more
