We ate here before and it was "okay" so we decided to come back. My wife ordered the sirloin and it was okay. Not great. But passable. However, I ordered the bbq ribs because the menu says they are baby back ribs. They are not: they are spare ribs. Very tough and you have to saw them off the bone with a knife. I went ahead and ate as much as I could because I was starving after hiking all day. I asked the waitress if these were really baby back ribs. She said "oh, no, those are not baby back." I told her the menu says baby back. She said "nowhere on the menu does it say baby back." I asked her to bring a menu and then I showed her where it clearly states baby back. She said, "oh, I learned something new". I then asked to see the owner, Orlando. He refused to come. The waitress said he was busy working the bar so I went to see him (since he didn't have the simple customer service courtesy of coming to see me at my table). I told him that I wasn't looking for a free meal but I thought he could do something (like 1/2 off my meal, a free appetizer, anything; I would have been happy with an apology). After reading some of the reviews, we were almost dissuaded from going there. It's right around the corner from Taos Valley RV park where we are staying. For convenience sake, we decided to go despite some of the negative comments. I'm glad we did. The young man who seated us was also our server. He was extremely polite and welcoming. He gave us excellent and attentive service. The food was very good. I had the chile rellano. My wife had green chile chicken and enjoyed it. We asked for green sauce on the side and it was also very good. Sides were very good...pinto beans, rice, posole. Each meal comes with a giant sopapilla and honey. It was excellent. Came out hot and fresh...and huge. Not sure why the negative comments, but everything is subjective I suppose. Again, I'm glad we went and highly recommend. I had the chile rellenos with green chili (you could order green, red, or Christmas) and they were outstanding--delicious, not overly battered and very cheesy. It was a slow weeknight with two other tables as we were seated, so service was attentive and courteous. I had the half chicken from the smoker pit and it was excellent. Had the coleslaw as my side. Really great food and service; our server Crystal was so friendly and attentive, she knows what's good too so ask her. My wife had the steak fajitas which were tender and tasty, I had a ribeye which was delicious. Not the most tender steak ever but cooked perfectly, well seasoned and just what the doctor ordered. Don't go to this restaurant unless you want to be nickled and dimed to death. My wife and I ordered the beef fajitas, but I wanted chicken and so for $7.00 they added chicken. Fair enough. They gave us one tortilla between the two of us. That was it. I asked the waitress-can I have a tortilla too? Sure she said and then charged me for it-only $1.00-but why? 2 cents worth of flour to make it. In all my decades of eating fajitas I've never received just one tortilla, and never been charged if I needed one more. The salsa and chips-$7.00-most Mexican restaurants provide them complimentary. The $10 house margarita I'm sure was a mix and I couldn't taste any tequila. Then we were charged $2.00 because we used a credit card. The food took an hour and half to be served. The service was terrible. The waiter kept making excuses on why the for was not ready. Our appetizers were 30 minutes late. It ruined our entire evening and we will not go back to eat there again. I am recommending the same for the peoples in Taos. And the next day I call to speak with the manager. The conversation was like my first reviews "Pitiful". The Manger started off acting like he did not understand me. Again all these Idiotic Excuses on his staff and kitchen. And he could not wrap his head around the the fact took over an Hour and a Half to get the food out. I told him I saw walking around like a chicken with his head cut off just like the servers. He did go up and speak to the only table where the Taos Police were sitting. They too sat there for an hour waiting, one of the officers actually got up and left. They "F Up" my last dinner with my son who was leaving for Naval Bootcamp. His answer to all of this was to offer me a drink. He had no scope of the Negative Impact. As a Native Person we were disrespected. Maybe that was the Problem. I want the Manager to know that there will be some very Serious Spiritual Consequences for all involved. Mark my Words. Stopped here for BBQ. Very large and clean inside. Their ribs were done perfectly. You get a choice of two sides. We had German Cole Slaw, and steamed veggies. Their German Cole Slaw was extremely good, Ned with purple cabbage. This is our second visit. This time we had Calamari appetizer and the BBQ 1/2 Chicken. Sides were steamed veggies with their house made Gorgonzola dressing and Caesar Salad. My husband again got their German Cole Slaw. The calamari was super fresh and a great coating. One of the best calamari appetizers I've had. The salad was good though not the greatest. I think they dressed it well before serving as some of the lettuce was soggy. The BBQ chicken was perfectly done. We had the Habanero BBQ sauce, so yummy with a hint of hotness. Service was outstanding. Our waitress was very attentive. read more

Chips and salsa are good, though not free. The BBQ platter wasn't bad. The NM Combo Platter was terrible. The Chile Rellano was burned and bitter. The enchilada was supposed to be steak but was chicken. The port tamale was really good. Asked for posole instead of beans, but got beans. Service was very slow. I've eaten Mexican food all my life and this was the best I've ever eaten. All four of us chose the New Mexican Combination plate. A chili relleno, a tamale with beef and a chicken enchilada. We had a choice of red or green sauce (I chose green) and Spanish rice or posole, ( posole for me). All ingredients fresh, flavorful and delicious. The posole is a form of hominy and I enjoy the textures and flavor. The Verde sauce was good the portions were large - but we all took none home. Wonderful read more

Not a good experience. I will preface that some of this will be due to my visit occurring on Mother's Day, so I start with that context. I had called earlier in the day for a reservation, but was informed they were not doing so - again, probably because of the holiday. We waited probably about 30 minutes for a table, and then found out that they were out of a number of items. It was clear that they were quite busy, and with bbq - once it's gone...it's gone. That changed my choice to getting just the brisket vs the smoked combination plate as they were out of ribs. My house salad arrived with some small corn chip pieces in it, so I hope that was part of their dish and not 'extras' that fell onto my salad. My brisket arrived with my second side selection of mixed vegetables - which were bland and not seasoned at all. A number of their bbq items come with a choice of different sauces, but I wanted to taste the meat directly. The brisket was incredibly dry, cut from the flat, and visually had no indication of being smoked. There was no smoke ring, nor was there any bark - although it tasted ok, it was not enjoyable. The bill was another issue that I should have addressed. Some restaurants charge for plain club soda, some do not. Our bill not only showed that we were charged $3.50 for each glass, but charged again for our refills. Had I not been with a larger group - I would have taken this up with staff/management. Let me tell you- I am an extreme light-weight when it comes to alcohol and I felt absolutely nothing. If you want a virgin drink here, you won't have a problem. Food was just average. Pros: very clean on the inside, nice decor, friendly service, good selection of meals, fairly prompt even when busy Cons: prices are a little higher than the quality commands, they charge for soda refills, and out biggest complaint is about the Valdez Smoke Combo plates. We ordered two of them ($23 each) and were disappointed to see more of the plate than we did food when looking at it. At that price the food should have been overflowing but instead paltry amounts of meats were served. Overall, the place is fine. But they certainly need to reduce prices about 10-15% for what they are charging. read more

We are locals and this is our "go to" place for excellent Margaritas, smoked meat, steaks, and Mexican food. Our favorites are the rib eye steak, always cooked correctly, the Diablo shrimp, fajitas, and enchiladas. Good service, always clean, and the kitchen knows what it's doing. We love this restaurant and we are here several times a week. I wrote the above last year and nothing has changed. It's excellent and everyone should eat there. read more
