I had the pleasure of browsing through Sahara on Piedmont Ave for the first time this weekend. What a wonderful experience to walk through and enjoy all the treasures from Morocco. I loved the tea glasses, elaborate ornately carved door frames and furniture, beautiful light fixtures, candle holders and linens. Be sure to go all the way to the back where you immerse in Morocco even more exploring two extra rooms in the back, all furnished and decorated. It's like a trip to Morocco and a great place for unique decor and gifts! read more

This review is long overdue. We went to the store when it was on Ashby in Berkeley during the month of Ramadan. Mostafa, the store owner, was fasting and in a terrible mood. We literally couldn't be nicer to him, but he was agitated and incredibly rude. In the end, we agreed to lease several light fixtures (chandeliers and wall sconces) to put up in a house we were trying to sell. The house took a while to sell, and we had to extend the lease and pay Sahara more money. The house eventually sold, but when it did, the buyer insisted on keeping the fixtures. We contacted Mostafa, but once he found out what happened, that we had no choice but to buy them, he decided to charge us the full price on top of what we already paid (fwiw, it was in the thousands). We basically got double charged and ripped off. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I would NOT recommend this place as it's incredibly pricey or the store owner for reasons stated above. There are several other oriental stores around, and I won't ever go back there again. read more

This store has beautiful Moroccan products and is in a great location. The reason I am giving three stars is because the woman who runs the shop followed me around the store and watched me like a hawk when I wandered in to browse her store. At first, I thought she was just being friendly but after ten minutes of her trailing me everywhere I walked in the store, standing there, staring, I began to realize that she thought I might steal something. The store is huge and the shopkeeper monitored me as if I were a criminal. I am a well-groomed, well-dressed Latina woman in my late thirties and I make six figures; I don't need to steal anything. If I had been left alone to browse, I probably would have bought something but this experience left me feeling so upset, uncomfortable, and shocked, that I left. read more

Sahara is a Moroccan wonderland. Mostafa, the owner, couldn't be nicer, and he has a wide range of beautiful pottery, leather goods, furnishings, and accent pieces. He was so nice to help me with getting a full grain leather pouf and stuffing it to perfection. My home is not Moroccan in style, but we have a number of serving pieces and other accents that incorporate the look and feel into our home. I recommend Sahara without reservation and I will be going back quite often in the future. read more

They always allow me to take my time viewing the various items in the store and I swear during a recent visit I had forgotten all about Covid! :) Having visited Morocco in the past, this store holds a very special place in my heart. I have traveled almost every continent in the world and all over the U.S. and this is the most beautiful shop there is. The furniture, jewelry, crafts, home decor, architectural objects, etc. are absolutely stunning. I bought a gorgeous handbag from the owner Mostafa, who was welcoming, kind, charming, funny, patient, knowledgeable, and not at all pushy. I also got Moroccan soap and tea. We were even served tea by the gracious owner. The music was exquisite and transported me to Morocco. His prices are very resonable. Please visit his shop. There is something for everyone and it is the perfect place to shop for gifts. It will make your day. The world would be a better place if everyone was like Mostafa.
