This was a meal to remember. Fried mushrooms with horseradish dip. Brussel sprouts, tender brisket and cinnamon biscuits with apple butter. We came very late, and called ahead so the food was ready when we got there. The service was great and food perfect. It is hard to find for newbies. It is down a golf course lane along some woods, not marked well. My parents struggled to find it. Wish there were more signage, but everything else perfect.

By now, it's absolutely no secret that I tend to be a major fan of Sahm's establishments. I decided to go for a drive after picking up a new set of tires today. I headed up north a bit and found myself in the Pendleton area. I had no idea Sahm's Smokehouse was here. Quite literally, I saw a roadside sign and decided to visit (So yes. Roadside signs do work). This location reminds me a lot of the Sahm's spot at Heritage Lake in Coatesville, Indiana. Instead of being by a lake, this one is right next to Fall Creek Golf Club. It looks like an older building - I'd imagine it was something prior to Sahm's. I saw that they had a ramp up to the entrance and a couple accessible parking spots. The parking area is kind of on a slant - not exactly easy for wheelchair users - but I felt like they'd done the best they could and decided to stay. They do have an outdoor patio area. There's also another area that looks like an outdoor garden type spot. It kind of reminded me of downtown Indy's Athenaeum garden. However, it was hot and I decided to dine inside. The ramp going up to the entrance is a little steep. I had to hold on to the sides to actually make it. However, if you have upper body issues or limited ability to handle inclines you may want to make sure you're not alone. As I was exiting, I also noticed that the end of the ramp has a bit of a lip to it. If you hit that too fast, you're going to fall. I was glad I saw it as going downhill on a ramp is typically fun, however, there's no way I could have just let myself go. The glass doors lead into a hosting area. There's a family dining area to the left and a bar area to the right. I was seated in the bar area. It was obvious fairly quickly that they were understaffed. The employees present were making it work and maintained a positive attitude. The bar area is comfortable. It's rather casual and it was a nice spot to hang out. I had no intention of drinking, but I felt comfortable here. The menu was generally consistent with a smokehouse with a BBQ emphasis and items consistent with that theme. There were some solid sides, a full beer menu, and some handhelds. If you're used to the expanded Sahm's menu, this isn't it. I think it's broad enough to be satisfied. I never did get my server's name. She was friendly, though a touch slow because, again, they were understaffed. That said, when she was serving me she was attentive. The service quality definitely was present. I ended up ordering a smash burger with waffle fries and my usual unsweetened iced tea. The waffle fries? Amazing. The burger? Surprisingly average. The bun tasted a little tougher than I'm used to with Sahm's bread. I couldn't tell if it was a little less than fresh or perhaps it had been frozen. Regardless, it really detracted from the taste of the sandwich. I got my always desired iced tea refill. I also lingered for a bit as I enjoyed watching people play golf. It was nice to be able to hang out. I liked the atmosphere, though it did get a touch loud for me. I kind of wished I'd gone to the patio, however, I still enjoyed it and found it all relaxing. This isn't what I'd call a destination location. However, I don't think it's intended that way. However, if I'm in the Madison County area I would definitely return. I might order something different than the burger. Overall, this was a notch below the usual Sahm's experience. The burger was a little off, the service a little slow, and that ramp a little challenging. I could probably go a 3.5 here, however, the service was strong and I'm giving a slight curve since they did seem lightly staffed. Overall, I enjoyed my meal, the atmosphere, and my server so I'm definitely comfortable with a strong 4-star rating. This isn't upper tier Sahm's for me, but I'd still easily return when in the area.

This is officially my favorite spot in Pendleton. All I can say is "wow"! For some crazy reason, we have been pushing off trying Sahm's. Well, this is our new go to. The food is absolutely amazing and way better than expected. They have "those chicken tenders". The elusive, perfect tenders. I can't recommend them enough. The cheese curds are perfect and their patty melt was outstanding. You can tell everything is made to order. The service for take out was great. They use an easy online system. The front desk was helpful and got me my order with no issues. The atmosphere inside is relaxed, dark, and feels like a locals spot. Again, this place is awesome and deserves all the attention!

My wife and I have been vacationing in the midwest for the past week. We were passing through the area when we needed to find a place for lunch. My wife had mentioned a BBQ place in a nearby city that she found in a vacation guide, but had since forgotten the name of, so I pulled up my Yelp app and punched in barbecue. This place came up near the top of the list, and was extremely well rated, so I figured it must be a good one. It was rated even higher on Google and Facebook, so they must be doing something right, right? First, the address that is on Yelp took us to the middle of a housing neighborhood near a correctional facility. That was our first warning to go back to the hotel instead. Second, we saw a great blue heron just sitting by the side of the road as traffic went by, as opposed to hiding or flying as we normally see them. That was our second warning... I searched Google Maps for the name of this place, and it comes up with a different area than the Yelp address (which went through Google maps, no less) had taken us to, though the actual address looked like it was identical to the one I had previously gotten from Yelp... go figure. I told my wife and our friend going with us that if the new directions weren't taking us there, we'd just go back to the hotel. Anyway, we made it. I kind of wish we hadn't. We were waiting about 5 minutes before we got seated by a nice young lady. The waitress came a few minutes later to take drink orders (Pepsi products, blech) but hadn't handed us menus. Those came after a while longer. The waitress didn't small talk us at all, she was almost gone before we had finished talking. In fact at one point I was going to ask where the bathroom was but she had already zipped away fast. My wife ordered a BYO mac and cheese with pulled chicken and baked beans. When she got it, the chicken was in chunks, not pulled, and she couldn't eat much of it as she couldn't eat the chicken chunks as they were too big to chew. She had also gotten the coleslaw, but with green peppers and bell peppers in it, it was completely inedible. Our friend ordered a 1 meat combo with brisket, while I ordered the one meat combo with ribs (pictured). The rest of our order was the same. We got mac and cheese, cornbread casserole, and fried biscuits with apple butter. Our friend liked his brisket but commented that it was a little too gristley. To me, it looked very fatty, but it still looked better than what I got. My mac and cheese was very average. Not bad, not great. It tasted like it was out of a box. The fried biscuits were good but I wouldn't have called them biscuits. At a Chinese buffet, they would be considered cinnamon sugar dough balls. They were actually better without the apple butter. The cornbread casserole was really good in my opinion (the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1). The ribs, however, were small, tough, overcooked, and possibly left over from a previous day. They were awful, and rank among the top 5 worst ribs I've ever had. I had debated not getting them. I need to stick with my gut more often. At one point the waitress zipped by, asking if everything was ok. Our friend quickly commented "yeah!" and zip! the waitress was gone! That was a rather unfortunate time for me to be chewing on some food. I ended up finishing my wife's BYO mac and cheese which was better than the plain mac but not by much. I didn't end up completely finishing anything, a rarity for me. The waitress brought refills in to go cups, before we had even gotten the check, and she never asked if we wanted dessert, which we had been considering, but I'll never know how their peanut butter pie is because we never got the chance to order it. We felt very rushed out of there, and it wasn't even busy. Oh well, we now know not to ever go back.

Had a delicious dinner this evening. Outdoor area was packed so sat inside. Nice variety on the menu- really good attentive service and the food was delicious (and then some!) Looking forward to visiting this place again and trying something new.

A good selection of Big Lug beers available.

This was my first time visiting here since it opened. I have been to other of the Sahm's properties in the past. This is next to the golf course and it appears the restaurant is in the old clubhouse, which is kind of neat. Right next to it is their "Beer Barn" that is used in the nicer weather. As soon as you walk in the door you get a huge whiff of how a place calling itself a "smokehouse" should smell. It smells like burnt wood and barbecue. We seated ourselves in the bar side and were promptly greeted by our server. She is probably in her early 20's and she was courteous but lacked a certain 'charm' for lack of a better word. You have to be really paying attention, and it didnt affect my overall experience, but it was something that I noted-she said to the couple sitting next to us that were in their 60's "Do you want more water?". A nicer way to approach it is to say "Would you like more water?". I dont have to/need to/want to be called "sir" or anything like that but "you guys" is not how I like to be referred to and I know my 75 year old Dad doesnt apprecaite that. It is just a generational thing, but I digress...... I ordered a pint of the Big Lug Kolsch and a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese. The beer was cold and tasty. My sandwich, surprisingly, came out on a hoagie-type roll that was toasted on both sides. It was a pleasant surprise. The pork was smoked just right and the Texas BBQ had a nice kick to it. It was not overwhelming, but for me who doesnt like very spicy things, it was nice. It made my forehead sweat just a tad and that was good. The mac and cheese was cheesy and the portions were big. One of the things that is expected at a BBQ joint is large portions and these certainly were. My parents brisket and sides were the same way. Overall, a good value and a good experience. It is just south of Downtown Pendleton and if you plan it right, you can visit the restaurant and then visit some of the local businesses in the downtown area.

    Pulled pork sandwich. Amazing.

Loved the pulled pork sandwich. Even the bread was delicious. Take a nice little drive out of the city and have some good BBQ.

It is a bit hard to determine where to order given the large space once you walk in, but they have a counter with a chalkboard menu to the left along the wall. They have a TON of choices and a lot of great sounding sides. The best deals are either platters or meals, as they come with sides and drinks. But they also offer specials during the week which makes things interesting. We got fried chicken breast (as out of all other chicken options almost) with a side of coleslaw. Tasty but a bit dry on the chicken. They do have at least 6 sauces to use (self serve) so that helped but I'd probably try another option next time. I'm more of a heavily seasoned preference if going to go for chicken, so found it also a bit bland. But well cooked and fresh! The sides of several others were great with a lot of variety so you can mix and match. Everyone ate the majority of their meals, so I think it went over well as a new option. The portions are large for the price so you won't go away hungry for sure! It is worth checking out and I appreciate their commitment to Barbeque.

You could add more heat with Tabasco to get it to a spice that makes the tongue actually feel hot. Apparently you can't request fatty or lean anymore, and the brisket I received was so dry it literally crumbled apart like beef sawdust. There was basically zero fat left on it, which also meant very little flavor. For the first time ever, the sauce wasn't optional... it was rescue equipment. The ribs were okay, but even they weren't what they used to be. They used to have that perfect fall-off-the-bone texture, and now they were just kind of there. Not terrible, just disappointing compared to how good this place once was. I'm not trying to trash Trax because I know how great they can be. That's actually what makes this frustrating. It feels like the brisket went from "Texas smokehouse masterpiece" to "beef jerky with a college degree."
