Came into Saigon Kitchen & Pho this past weekend and was so happy I found them because everything--and I mean EVERYTHING--was so good! The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated, and I loved that the menu had just the right amount of options without feeling overwhelming. This also isn't your typical Vietnamese pho restaurant. A lot of the dishes felt more elevated and like something you'd find in a gourmet Vietnamese kitchen. Of course, they still offer the Vietnamese staples too--pho, rice plates, fried rice, and other noodle dishes with both broth and dry options--along with a really nice variety of drinks. So there's still plenty to choose from if you're craving something more traditional. Crab & Shrimp Egg Rolls: To die for. Literally! They weren't wrapped in the typical egg roll wrapper but instead used a rice netting wrap, which made them incredibly crispy and held up perfectly with every bite. The flavor was even better. An absolute must if you come here. Chicken Wings: So crispy and packed with flavor. Honestly, they didn't even need a dipping sauce, but they served them with what I believe was a ranch dip. What Vietnamese restaurant serves ranch with their wings?! They do--and surprisingly, it paired so well. Bone Marrow w/ Toast: So good!! Perfectly seasoned, simple, and absolutely delicious. Crispy Pork Belly Banh Mi: I'm STILL thinking about it. The bread was perfectly crunchy, the crispy pork belly was seasoned so well, and it was paired with a delicious mayo that brought everything together. Every bite was so good. My mouth is literally watering writing this. Banh Mi Chao: You typically don't see this dish at many Vietnamese restaurants in the U.S. It's commonly eaten for breakfast in Vietnam, but honestly, I could eat it any time of day. Think of it as a Vietnamese-style breakfast skillet with sunny-side-up eggs, pâté, Spam, pork cake, steak, and a toasted baguette served alongside it. Highly recommend! I didn't get a chance to try their burgers, but I noticed they have them on the menu, and when do you ever see a Vietnamese restaurant offering burgers? I think it's such a great option for groups where some people want Vietnamese food while others may want something more familiar, especially kids, friends, or family who aren't as familiar with Vietnamese cuisine. Based on everything I did try, I wouldn't be surprised if their burgers are just as good. I was so happy with everything we ordered that I'm already planning to come back just to work my way through more of the menu. And most importantly...I NEED another crispy pork belly banh mi! read more

Excellent. Just me so I can only comment on my dish and comments from diners close to me. A generous portion of Vermicelli with grilled pork. Divine. Veggies fresh. Noodles silky ( unlike the usual dried lump waiting to soften). Fried onions were a great touch and added a bit of crunch. Their homemade sauce was a great combination of sweet sour and ever so spicy. Table next to me we're eating pho. When it came out those bowls were steaming. Couldn't see the contents so I can't comment on the broth, but those folks were slurping quite happily (and loudly). Service was good. The server sat me promptly, got me water and took my order very quickly. The place was crowded (lunch crowd) and it looked like there were only two servers and they were hustling! My food came quickly but they never checked back so I didn't get a refill in my water. Nobody came to drop off my bill so I had to go up to the counter on my own and point out which table I was at. As far as ambiance? It's in a wee average looking older strip mall right off Fulton Hurley. Nothing fancy from the outside inside, though, is quite nice. Surprisingly step up from the usual utilitarian vibe most pho places have. One very large rectangular table made up of several square ones. This would be great for a large group. Other tables are round and would sit approximately up to five people fairly comfortable. The restroom was nice and clean - a biggie for us germaphobes. There were two televisions in the restaurant, which is a usual turn off for me, but both of them were on interesting channels. One was on tour of Vietnam and the other one was overview of food vendors in Vietnam so that was interesting actually while I was waiting for my food. I hesitate to give this restaurant four stars because I would put it more at 4.5. The food was excellent and the ambience was very comfortable and nice. The service was a bit lacking, I've got to admit it was not great. I'd like to add one caveat: it was lunchtime, there were only two servers and they were trying to cover quite a few tables. I do need to be honest, though, and tell you about that particular experience and it was a bit lacking. Will I go back? Rarely get to that area but I wouldn't hesitate as I would love to taste that slurp-inducing pho. read more

It was nice to see a Vietnamese place with bánh mì open in the north. Going down to Little Saigon is not convenient. This was a disappointment and would justify a trip to South Sacramento. I don't know if there are regional differences for bánh mì that could explain the differences. That said, this $8.50 bánh mì was disappointing. "Umm, not bad", was all I could say when asked by staff for my opinion of the sandwich. The baguette lacked a savory, satisfying, yeasty, umami flavor when its aroma was inhaled and tasted. The meat lacked any remarkable flavor or quality from a typical American style grill. The pickled vegetables were bland and sparse. And oddly, there seemed to be mayo on this. With plain, unpickled cucumber. I've never heard of or seen mayo on bánh mì. There was no sharp contrast of flavors and no depth of flavors like those and better bánh mì of Little Saigon. read more

Now having been back a few more times, the food is fantastic, still. However, it's been very frustrating to deal with their ordering process. Sit down and order from the menu is your best get. Otherwise, you may unwittingly be playing a little Russian roulette. If you try to order from their website, you may not be paying the same price as the menu states. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. And there's a fee they don't mention till the checkout process. If you try to order to go over the phone, again you will not necessarily be paying the price listed on the menu or the website. And they will again try to add extra fees for a to-go order. Which they also don't mention. If you come in and order from the menu for a to go order, you'll likely avoid any hidden fees but you'll have to pay for it with your time. All in all it just keeps getting more and more frustrating to deal with the service they are providing unless you're sitting down for dine in service. Although, they forgot things we ordered when we dined in as well. Be prepared to deal with a hassle for some really good Vietnamese food! read more

I was on the search to try a different spot that serves bun bo hue (BBH) and Saigon Kitchen Express came recommended. Apparently I even had it in my bookmarks already, so I decided to read through some recent reviews and try out their BBH. I was especially drawn to the price point of everything. Very affordable (only $15 for a large BBH), especially in this economy. Of course, I soon found out why. The restaurant is strangely situated next to a laundromat, so parking is a bit wonky, but there are still plenty of spots available. It was very quiet when I walked in, with only two other parties dining in. I was quickly seated by the young server, who was pretty friendly and attentive. I already knew what I wanted, so I quickly placed my order. I did ask what the difference between the regular and the large BBH was, and was told that the large contained more noodles and broth. The price difference was only $1 so why would I get the regular anyway? I also ordered a Thai tea, which was cheap as well ($5.50). Well it didn't take long for my food to arrive. I also asked for shrimp paste, and that was given to me readily. It didn't come in its own container, rather a spoonful was handed to me (see photo). The star of the show and the main reason why I came to Saigon Kitchen Express, was for the giant rib bone that was included in my BBH. This bone was huge, and the meat was so so tender. The meat quite literally fell off the bone, and I had the best time gnawing on the bone itself after stripping the meat off and returning it to the broth. As I stated at the beginning of my review, this bowl of BBH was cheap. And quite honestly, there weren't a ton of noodles in the bowl. Aside from the giant rib bone and a few pieces of cha, there was also not a ton of meat. Flavor wise, it was decent, but I'm glad I added the shrimp paste, bc I love my BBH with extra funk. I just wish there were a few more noodles for me to enjoy, but it is what it is. I also asked at the end of my meal if they made pork blood cubes (since there weren't any in my bowl), and they said no. Personally, the dish is not complete without pork blood. I mainly got the large so I could save the broth to use for lunch the next day. That was delicious. The Thai tea was excellent. It was one of the strongest Thai teas I've had in a while, and I could tell that it was brewed in house. The amount of condensed milk was perfect as well. Lastly, it seemed like the menu "photos" were AI generated. This was honestly a disappointment for me. Wasting precious water for the sake of AI art is not cool. All in all, my bowl of BBH was pretty good, but it definitely wasn't the best I've had (nothing like Hue or BBH An Nam, iykyk), so I agree with some of the other reviews. I've seen people say the pho was pretty good, so I'll probably come back to try that next time. Honestly, I'd come back mainly for that juicy, tender rib bone. read more

Had dinner here the other night before going to the paranormal cirque down the street. The restaurant itself is very open and plenty of seating. Very pretty restaurant. Service was good. The waiter was very attentive and made sure had everything we ordered and needed. We had the bone marrow for appetizer and I had the bun Bo hue while my friend had the bun thit nuong. The bone marrow was on the very salty side. I love bone marrow but I don't know if I would order again. The bun Bo hue was delicious! Their pho menu comes with varying meat options, including tendon! Overall, I enjoyed it but it was just a tad salty for me, and I like salt! I feel like there's more meat than noodles, so if you like meat, this could be the place for you. The condiments included the usual sauces, but they offered lemon instead of lime. For drinks, I adored the Vietnamese coffee with salt cream. It was rich, smooth, and robust! Service was friendly and efficient. There's plenty of parking. Warm and friendly server greeted me. Was helpful in answering my questions of whether or not they had chow fun noodles for their soups... They do not (slightly disappointing). However, I ordered the Bun Bo Hue because of the apparent thicker noodle with more bite in the pictures on their menu. The atmosphere is pleasant and low key with what seems as contemporary Vietnamese ballads in the background a nice touch. Now to touch on some points. I found this hidden gem around the Arden area. I was craving pho and wanted to try something new. This spot did not disappoint at all. It's insanely spacious inside and provides a bit of a modern twist compared to most pho places which is nice. The service was quick and the staff was super attentive. The food came out quick! Easily within 5-10 mins after ordering. I tried the pho with flank steak and brisket in the large size which was so GOOD. Plenty of meat and the breast was so refreshing. I walked into Saigon Kitchen Express (hereby referred to as "SKE") and had a feeling of deja vu. Then I saw the giant hood above the counter which was no longer in use, and then I noticed the giant luxurious polished stainless steel doors. I couldn't quite place it so I searched the address in google and lo and behold it's the former site of The Kitchen! Michelin may not have recognized SKE but it serves up a Michelin star experience. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue and wow it blew me away. The broth was super tasty (but not really spicy, which is ok, maybe it can be requested to be more spicy?) and the ingredients were plenty and satisfying. It came with a giant beef rib and the meat was fatty and tendony but not overly so. Just the perfect amount to give you an easy to eat rib. I also tried the long bone marrow with bread and it was oh so good with the smokey fatty beefy goodness that comes from roasted bone marrow. I tasted the regular pho broth and it too was super tasty and I daresay as good as the Michelin bib gourmand pho place down in Rancho. So happy I have an alternative to driving so far to get super awesome pho. (Note: my table mates who did not get the pho and soup noodle dishes were not quite as happy as I was, so I'd recommend sticking with pho, BBH, and tom yum soup noodles.) This is one of the best pho establishments in proximity to the Arden area. The perfect place for a weeknight dinner without having to drive in traffic to South Sac. I love the shrimp and pork egg rolls. The netted egg rolls are my all time favorite. I ordered the beef rib pho and it was perfect for the cold weather. What a spacious restaurant with attentive service and delicious, well-priced food served promptly! Wow, their crab and shrimp crispy egg rolls are cooked with the delicious, airy, puffy, and extra crispy batter that not all Vietnamese restaurants use, so I was excited to see this when it arrived at our table! The presentation of the egg rolls impressed me and so did the mouth watering dipping sauce! My #5 Pho with steak, brisket, flank, and meat balls was filled with soft, flavorful meat, which I even gave praise for to the server. The broth was clear and perfect, unlike other pho spots around that I've tried that have brown, waaaaay too salty broth, and meat that is chewy. I especially appreciated the fact that the meat was not rare when my pho arrived at the table. My first sip of that broth was a gift to my soul! My friend didn't have any leftovers from her vermicelli rice noodles chicken and egg rolls bowl. Enough said! My mind had to get used to the fact that this once was the home of The Kitchen for many, many years before they moved locations. My mind and senses shifted with the aroma of pho and images on the TV screens of all kinds of food calling out to my smell-o-vision for my eyes to feast on. I'm happy and relieved this is now the home of a Vietnamese food spot that is nearby, as I have been longing for a Vietnamese restaurant nearby that doesn't serve pho that is over the top salty and serves meat that bothers my friends' and my stomachs.. The location is pretty interesting , Its kinda in a neighborhood with a laundromat as its neighbor. The place is welcoming and there ample seating all around. My friend from out of town came to visit for the day and wanted to try out some Vietnamese food. We came across this place from their advertisement videos and decided to give it a shot. This restaurant has plenty of parking so there won't be an issue finding a spot. Walking in, you are greeted by the staffs on board who will tell you can choose where to sit if it's empty. This place was well ventilated and cool. I ordered the Thai Tom Yum noodle soup with egg noodles. There was a rich tom yum flavor with a mild kick to the soup. It had your typical ingredients that you'd throw in a hotpot like sliced beef, lettuce, shrimp, fish ball, etc. the noodles and seafood were cooked just right. Open for a month now Saigon Kitchen Express has taken over Sacramento's most famous restaurant The Kitchen's location. The interior is simple with tables and a counter. The food is inexpensive with $5 spring rolls, $6.50 ban mi's $10.95 rice plates and $11.95 vermicelli bowls. Sorry I don't remember what the Pho cost but I think the combo was $15. Our food was fresh and tasty. The owner seemed a little short handed as this is a family business but the food didn't take long once ordered. Unfortunately my wife's vermicelli came out with peanuts in it. She had asked for no peanuts since she is allergic. Overall this spot has tasty fresh food at reasonable prices. This restaurant is in the former location of the Michelin starred Selland's Kitchen. They took down the restaurant exterior wall that surrounded the front outside dining area and now the interior is pretty basic. The giant range hood that was over the demonstration cooking area is not even used now it's just over an area where contained vegetable vegetables are kept. The actual kitchen of this restaurant is closed off. There's a big open area where the wait staff can perhaps make the drinks. Seems like a giant waste of space. The restaurant itself is very large. I decided to try the wonton dumpling soup pho-style rather than with the normal egg noodles. They staff were very happy to accommodate special requests. I heard other table making a special request as well. Servers seem quite attentive and helpful and desired to make customers happy. The pho arrived with the most beautiful wonton dumplings that look handmade. There were so many other dumplings. It was quite a beautiful dish. The outer dumpling noodle was perfectly cooked and texture and taste were perfect. However, that could not be said for the inside of the dumpling, which was just straight salted pork and nothing else very unappealing to make matters worse. The broth was not tasty at all. Well, it was not over salted. It was very much under flavored, not so much... just very plain pork. Had to make matters worse the broth was not tasty at all. The broth was not rich and did not have any depth of flavor whatsoever. It has several scallions and was served with bean sprouts and jalapeños, but not the Thai basil. I came here today and ordered Banh Mi Chao (bo ne). The dish came warm, watered down and absolutely nasty. The pleasant server brought it back to the kitchen and said the cook said it was fine. Also I'm sorry for getting mad at you (the server) but this dish is an abomination. You don't have to be Vietnamese to instantly know this dish is a mess! It's one thing to make a dish and it not be good, but this dish was horrible, made wrong and the chef didn't fix it! Look at how watery the sauce is, I asked for a small bowl so you can see how much sauce was drained from the plate and how thin it is. The chef had the nerve to say it wasn't made wrong. I implore the owner of this place to sit down, eat the dish and tell me they're satisfied with the quality of this dish and they stand by it, and I will donate 5k to a non profit of their choice. Btw "chao" in banh mi chao means skillet, sizzling, hot! It came out warm, you can also tell by the texture of the ingredients the food was boiled. Hu tiêu nam vang is the best as long as you squeeze extra lemon. Bùn bỏ huệ is also good, not too spicy. The pho is just ok.

Saw this on instagram and came to try it, food was delicious and yummy! I love that they made the spring rolls warm and the peanut sauce was good too. Will be back to try the pho soon. The service was good and it's across the road from Marshalls, it's next to a laundromat. read more

First time here. Restaurant is gorgeous inside. Service is attentive and courteous. Menu is not overwhelming like some Vietnamese restaurants. We had an appetizer of shrimp and pork rolls, split an order of pork and egg rolls with vermicelli noodles. First, we didn't get the egg roll but I didn't realize it until now. The shrimp and pork rolls were great. Warm, peanut sauce, warm pork and shrimp inside. What's not to love? The noodles with pork and shrimp were some of the best I've ever tasted. Now, I eat at another PHO type restaurant in Folsom. They know me and I know the sauces they have. That can make or break an order for me. However, their noodles taste incredible! The pork is a little underdone for my taste I prefer my pork to be crispy, not soggy. But everything else tasted great. Flavorful, rich broth, tasty noodles and crisp veggies.
