My wife and I had never tried Vietnamese food, and decided to give Saigon Spring a try as it's close to home. We were greeted very well by a friendly waiter, who is the chef's son. He explained the menu to us really well. We tried the Spring roll to start out, which was fresh and tasty. My wife then tried the Lemongrass beef, which was full of flavor and spiced right, she loved it. I had the curry chicken, which was also very good. Great service and fresh, new flavors. Sadly I can't review the food, because after checking this restaurants website for their hours (and seeing that they were open from 11-9) I showed up at 2:58. A shame because many of my friends recommended this establishment for pho-which my entire family had a craving for this fine day. What their web hours fail to mention is that they are closed from 3-4. Normally, I'd be forgiving for such a mistake, but insult was added to injury when the female waitperson saw me pull up to the door at 2:58 and literally RAN to lock the door in my face, without so much of an "I'm sorry." Too bad for them. I eat Vietnamese food probably twice a week, and they are the closest drive from my home in Saratoga. Here's what you missed out on Saigon Spring: $60 check average x 2x per week is just south of $500 per month, or $6K per year. Google shows me to the restaurant. My wife and I came from San Jose , California where we have access to countless Vietnamese restaurants. I came to Saigon Springs restaurant for a lunch on one day then came right back on the next day. Group of 10 friends from our reunion came on my referral, they all said that the foods are very tasty. I know for sure that the Vietnamese foods served at Saigon Springs are excellent and really have genuine taste. This is amazing Vietnamese food. It's seems like an unassuming little place in the corner of a nondescript strip mall, but don't let appearances deceive you. The service is always great. We loved the broth here. At first we were disappointed how the place was relatively empty on a Saturday lunch time and we were worried that the food may be disappointing. Me and my besties love this place. One visit a fortnight at least. Summer Rolls and Thai Iced tea to start off. The Curried Tofu and the Banh Tam Chay are to die for. Vegetarians rejoice! Excellent meal. We had crispy egg rolls and summer egg rolls. I had lemongrass chicken and my husband had grilled barbecue salmon. For dessert he had fried banana and I had creme brûlée. The staff are friendly and welcome you with broad smiles. The summer egg rolls were an nice hot weather appetizer. Cellophane won tons (?) stuffed with cabbage, shrimp and basil. The dipping sauce was slight sweet and spicy. The grilled barbecue salmon was a nicer filet with a wonderful barbecue sauce. Delicious Vietnamese food here!! I love every dish. The broth of pho is on point. I eat a lot if pho and a lot of viet pho places (I have eaten pho in Cali, NYC, Boston, New Orlean, Arkansas and Texas) now a days doesn't put effort into cooking pho the correct way anymore. It's either too greasy or they'll add msg & lots of it. Saigon spring's pho is perfect I can tell they took time marinating the broth the correct way. We first went here during their grand opening week and got to know the owners/operators. Good people. The food is fantastic. We almost always get pho bo or pho ga, sometimes a bowl for the table and sometimes this is my order. Kimmie likes their pork chops, sliced beef, shaking beef, and just about everything we've tried. They are very busy for the most time but the service is still quite good. Love their ice tea, and beef noodles of course. I haven been going to this family restaurant for almost 6 years. They split from Van's in Albany. They also opened a smaller restaurant in downtown Albany. They closed that location but will never forget their awesome customer service. I called around 3 for lunch and they literally called the cook to come in to cook for us! Talk about WOW! I love their whole menu- i have sampled it all. Some of my faves are: beef salad, very hot! Summer rolls and fried rolls, grilled beef with noodles, half chicken, pancakes with cooked veg and chicken...my stomach is growling just thinking about how great the food is! Oh and I can't forget Pho, Vietnamese soup, with beef, chicken and shrimp with raw veg...with tasty sauce. Their food is fresh, healthy and the price is unbelievable for what you get. I think they're using cool ranch canned fried onions (in everything) and there is watered down BBQ sauce with crushed peanuts masquerading as peanut sauce. The chicken broth needed the lid immediately replaced, it smells of dirty chicken. The vegetarian options underscore why people "hate" vegetarian food. The service was lovely. read more
