Amazing service and the best chinese I've had in a long time! Everything is so fresh and the chicken dishes use great quality meat. My general tso's was so crispy. Highly recommend the Singapore street noodle too. I have not yet dined in but everytime I do pick up, the place is beautifully set and very appealing ambience. I had a review from probably 5 years ago I never published. My friends and I went and had the General Tso's chicken and Wonton Soup. They always serve tea which is awesome and I have gotten these pancakes were they serve it with sliced duck sliced carrot and sliced cucumber inside it with this lovely sweet sauce. My friend went out and I stayed home but they offered to bring you back something. I tried five of the appetizers they were okay but they weren't the duck pancakes. I probably won't go there again. I love going there for the duck pancakes. I wish they would put them back on the menu. My roommate got me an avocado egg roll it was interesting I didn't dislike it I don't know that I'd get it again. He got me crab rangoon. They were yummy. He got these chicken wings in garlic and butter but they were fried I didn't like that texture of the fried better. And he got me these custard Bao Buns which were awesome. read more

I've lived in this community for decades and remember when this restaurant first opened. I've since moved south. With so many take out places I rarely visited. This evening a friend invited me to visit and have a sit down meal. I was very surprised to find the food was delicious and at very reasonable cost. Indoor dining doesn't seem to be popular but while there I saw a numerous people picking up take out. The menu was not your typical Asian menu with a wide variety of vegetable dishes. In a word...Flavorless!!! Won ton soup was basically water with salt and a couple greasy stuffed noodle with what appeared to be roast beef chunks. I really could not identify the meat used which is not a good thing. Secondly the chicken dishes were sadly no better than the mystery meat soup. The chicken was definitely reheated because it had that hard and chewy texture you get when you microwave something that was fried. Yuk. Also to add both the white rice and pork fried rice was hard as fingernails. Definitely NOT soft and fluffy like god intended sticky rice to be. Lastly to add they are quit pricy compared to better places. $36 for 2 combos and a side of sweet sour chicken. That's crazy. Tai Pan offers South East Asia and Hong Kong cuisine including mostly Chinese and a bit of Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian for dine-in or takeout (prices & offerings vary slightly between menus), with lots of spicy dishes offered. You can get dishes like SESAME CHICKEN (gets a 5.0 by one of my friends), Chow Mein, Roast Duck, Satay, Pad Thai, Chicken Rendang, Evil Jungle Prince, and Pho Bowl. The Takeout Lunch Menu offers 22 choices ($5.45-$6.05) served with fried rice. The Dine-In Lunch Menu offers over 30 choices (most priced at $7.75) served with vegetable fried rice and choice of soup. Special Combination plates ($6.65-$7.75) are served with spring roll & fried rice. The atmosphere is like visiting a large wooden house in Asia with nice decor and wood floors. I stopped in here for lunch recently around opening time. I was given complementary fried rice noodles with duck sauce & hot mustard and a pot of hot tea & ice water. I ordered the Pad Thai with Shrimp ($7.75) lunch combo. The Hot & Sour Soup was thick and spicy. The Pad Thai was pretty good and made spicy and had plenty of shrimp, eggs, sprouts, vegetables, & crushed peanuts, more of a stir fried version here instead of the usual sticky version I've had at other places. Ok. Wow. This was a bonkers experience. The one star is for the amusement factor because it was just so bizarre I had to laugh. There were two other tables when we arrived yet we waited 30 mins for drinks and to take our order. The won ton soup was inedible. The dim sum appetizer was ok and my meal was actually not too bad (chicken with peanut garlic sauce). The hot sake (tiny bottle) was not good and they had no decent cold sake apparently. Although at one point a bottle was brought over but the waitress yelled at my husband that he couldn't have it because it wasn't cold enough. As noted in some other reviews, there was one older woman who seemed to be the bartender, cook, waitress, and busser. She was overall pleasant but we heard a lot of yelling from the kitchen. Would not return even if it were free. And it was $120 for two dinners, one appetizer, and 4 little tiny hot sakes. The ambiance is somewhat charming as it is old school Chinese restaurant but the lights were mostly out and the windows were broken. Don't do it.... Don't..... do..... it! read more

I love nice sit-down Chinese restaurants, and there aren't very many in the area. So, when my parents and my niece were visiting us we came here for a nice meal. Despite being a party of five we were seated quickly. The place was mostly empty, which was surprising as it was dinner time, but we assumed that would mean fast service. We were sadly mistaken. Though they did a brisk take-out business (we could see the people come in and pick it up while we sat at our table), from order to food being put on our table was around 45 minutes. And the meals were just so-so. My mother especially had tried one of their specials with Eggplant and it was so bad she sent it back. It looked horrible. Having only been here once, I don't know if they had a bad day or not. However, I had heard lots of people talk about their slow service and indeed that was the case. It is a shame too as the building looks fantastic but the food and service just aren't worth coming here. read more

DON'T GO HERE. This is the first restaurant I have ever eaten in where I thought calling Robert Irvine would be a good idea. The wood outside is rotting, the paint peeling. The inside smells like your aunts house. The floors are filthy, and over half of the light bulbs are out. We shouldn't have stayed, but with 3 kids, you want to get dinner over with and move on with your night. The dish with fresh grilled vegetables that I ordered wasn't available. My water glass had lipstick marks on it, and the food was all overly oily and salty. The service was slow, and the bill was expensive. Much more than I would pay for better takeout elsewhere. Despite it all, I'm left feeling sad more than angry. And also bloated. It is obvious that this was once a successful and loved establishment. The owners seemed nice enough, but tired, and have chosen to let the structure of the building go. We definitely won't be back, but I wish it didn't have to be this way. read more

Easily one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. The staff is friendly and I've felt at home here since the first time I walked through the door. The decor is delightful the food is delicious and the place is enormous. I love it. What I forgot to mention is everything here is made from scratch when you order it, with the exception of noodles! Easily some of the best Chinese food I've had! Really was looking for an easy but good Chinese food option and Tai Pan delivered. Best description of this place is traditional Chinese food leveled up one notch (it's more sit down but take out is great). Egg rolls are SUPER crispy, so good. General Taos chicken wasn't super spicy but had good heat and the fried rice that came with it was simple but tasty. Pan fried dumplings were also great because I love them steamed, but these are steamed and then fried on the bottom so it gave it a great texture. Really was great for an easy night in! read more

Three of us went here for dinner on Christmas Day. It was not busy. We arrived and were seated around 5:15. Our food arrived at 7:15 just as we were getting our coats on to leave. During our two hour wait, about a half dozen other tables vacated as those customers tired of their wait. Maybe it should have been a warning sign when it took the staff 20-25 minutes to seat us after saying "one minute". Maybe her not coming back but rushing around doing other things should have been another warning sign. I must be colorblind when it comes to red flags! After about 30-40(20-25 for first table, another ten or so for second one) minutes we finally sat down. The place wasn't very crowded. It was us and another table(family of four) in our section, 1 table in another, and 3 tables in the third section. I did notice something a bit *off* when we first sat down. That was that there were three tables in need of clearing in our section. Took about 10 minutes to put in a drink order and get the obligatory crispy noodles and sauces. We also put or dinner orders in then as well. Seemed like the smart thing to do.. get it done while she's at our table was the idea. After a few minutes a table from another section got up and said "we're leaving! We've been here an hour and haven't seen any of our food.". Hmm. Then the table next to ours got some of their food, the two kids dinners. Awhile after that the parents dish came out. Some time after that the woman pulled the waitress aside and said something like "I'm paying because I have to but I'm not happy. Our dinner came out after the kids were finished, we never got one of our dinners and the table next to us and another already left. This isn't ok.". Hmm. All signs pointed to run but we stayed put. About 40 minutes later our appetizer came out. We ordered the pu pu platter. It was good but would have been better hot or at least warm. It had been sitting awhile. The satay was juicy and had a nice flavor to it, the cheese wontons were fried nicely. I don't eat ribs but my date(daughter) liked them and was a fan of the spring rolls as well. Dinner came about 20 minutes later. I order pad thai. It had that look food gets when it sits awhile and it also had onions which I didn't want. The waitress had the kitchen make up a new dish, which was a good thing because it came out hot. Very tasty. Though I didn't eat much because my appetite was pretty much gone. My daughter ordered the sesame chicken and wasn't the biggest fan of it. It was basically chicken, fried sweet and sour style with sesame sauce over it. I liked it and thought the crispiness was light and nice, and enjoyed the flavor. The total came to about $44.00, $52.00 with tip. The service was nice and did a good job when they were around. She said someone called in and that's why they were so behind. I'm not sure how just one person can throw off an entire restaurant though. While waiting to be seated a lady picking up take-out said "service is slow here, but the food is good".. that says it all. 1 star for the food because I really enjoyed it. 1 star for the service, they were great when they were around. -3stars for the ridiculous wait for everything and no warning. read more

I don't know what you all are talking about. The dim sum here just isn't good. For starters, shrimp wrapped up in rice noodle is never one shrimp. Are you kidding me? The only thing that was decent was the fried taro stuffed with pork. Eggplant with shrimp was okay, but the two components weren't well integrated and the pieces of eggplant were measly. But the steamed wrap around the har gow wasn't up to snuff. And nothing I had was good enough to justify a return trip. Perhaps some day I'll return on a weekend, when the kitchen is busier. However the next time I go, I'll be walking in with lower expectations, and that might help. Because this place had been held up high by the Times Union food critic as a great place for dim sum. We drove past this place many times, and finally decided to stop by. We walked in and the decor was beautiful. The place had a very at home feeling. We went around 430, there was only one or two people there. I did notice that some people got takeout from this place during our meal. We took one look at the menu, and it seemed sparse. Looking online, it seems the takeout menu had alot more. The wait staff we had seemed very nice, though as one other review i read mentioned - the waitress seemed to be the cook, hostess, waitress and busser. The food seemed promising. I saw filet mignon. It was called Tsing Tao beef. Needless to say, it did not taste like filet mignon. The sauce that came with this, and the vegetables was bland. My wife order the seafood war bar. Her comment on the food is it was either to salty or bland. To sum it up, the wait staff was nice, the place was beautiful. The place seems to get good raitings, so maybe it is a place where the takeout is better, or maybe it was an off night. read more

I have to deduct a star. I've been back here several times since my first review over a year ago, and I've found the quality of food to be unpredictable. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is... Maybe they have 'off' days, maybe I'm ordering wrong, or maybe the menu is too extensive for them to ensure it's all good quality. I still really like the Thai Curry Bowl soup, and other soups have also been tasty. We have had a few fried items which were nice and crisp without being overly greasy (however, I try to keep my intake of fried food to a minimum). The Teriyaki Chicken is very tasty, but I would prefer it not be fried. My husband was pleased with the Tsing Tao Beef and thought the Mongolian Beef Flambé was good but not great. I had the dim sum once and would not get it again. I'm not a dim sum connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, but it didn't hold a candle to what I've had at Ala Shanghai in Latham. The Pad Thai here also left much to be desired, and it contained so much sodium that I had to stop eating because it made my head spin. Overall, Tai Pan is hit-or-miss. I'll come back if it's convenient, or maybe for takeout to get the soup. But for most things I'd want to order, there are simply better options nearby. read more

Ate here for the first and last time last week. First of all the place was almost empty for a Friday night. Only 2 other tables occupied. After we sat for a few minutes we got water and fried noodles and duck sauce. Finally placed our order and it took a while to come out. Only 1 person working from what I could tell. When our food came, the waitress felt the need to to move our water glasses and the bowl with noodles and duck sauce around on the table in order to put the appetizer of dim sum on the table. She moved the water glasses by touching the rim of the glasses with her hands. She did this every time she brought out the food. Not very sanitary. Food was okay, not the best I have ever had. Also, the bottle of soy sauce on the table, and the salt and pepper shakers were very sticky. I'm sure they had not been wiped down in quite some time. For only having 3 total tables to wait on, the service was extremely slow. She never came back to check on us and make sure everything was okay. My daughter wanted to take her leftovers home with her and it took quite some time for the waitress to come back so we could get to go boxes. Finally flagged her down and said we would like boxes so thought she would be right back with them. Instead, waited another 5-10 minutes before she came back only to take the food away. When I stopped her and said we just wanted boxes she said she would take the food in the back and box it for us. Not acceptable. She should have at least boxed it at our table if she wasn't going to let us do it. I would question the cleanliness of this restaurant overall, especially after just coming out of a pandemic and COVID still out there. Slow service, mediocre food, uncomfortable chairs that had arms. My daughter and I are somewhat large in stature and did not fit easily into the chairs. The parking lot nearly nonexistant, as well. I will not go back again and would not recommend. I wish I had read the reviews before I had gone, seeing many bad reviews for a lot of the same reasons I mentioned. It's amazing they are still in business. read more

I (and my family) ordered three hot and sour soups, a Mushu Chicken, General Tso's chicken, two egg rolls, two spring rolls and a small order of garlic Parmesan wings for pickup. The restaurant was chaotic on a rainy New Year's Eve, so the wait to get the food (even arriving after the estimated time) was understandable. We received most of the food, though it was missing two of the soups and the rice for the General Tso's. The restaurant (after 15+ minutes of back-and-forth over the phone to find our order) acknowledged they gave us one soup when we ordered three, and offered to give us the two if we came and picked them up. Since we live a significant drive away, we asked if we could pick them up tomorrow and then all we could elicit from the woman on the phone was "so sorry, so sorry, you can come get new ones any time thanks bye -click" but no confirmation. I'll update should we actually be able to take them up on the offer. The food we did receive was good, and freshly made - it wasn't under a warming light or anything like that. The egg rolls were a little overdone, but the spring rolls were incredibly well prepared and tasty! The service leaves something to be desired, but the food is worth it (just check before you leave!). read more

Decided to try this place out one Saturday evening when we couldn't get reservations at another restaurant we wanted to go to. We'd noted the Chinese looking structure on the side of Rt 9 for years, but never stopped by. Should have tried somewhere else First off, they might have had three people running the place. By the time we got there (around 6:30/7:00) there was a line of about 8 -10 people waiting for takeout, and the dining area was a compilation of abandoned tables, complete with dirty plates, cutlery napkins etc. After waiting about 10 minutes for the one person on front to notice us and seat us, we were given a table nestled between several dirty tables and promptly abandoned for 15 minutes. Usually I'd just up and leave, but was with my 82 YO father and didn't want to put him through this. We finally flagged the one person working down and got water and menus in addition to a missing setup, and then were abandoned for another 10 minutes. About 20 minutes after ordering they arrived, with someone else's food. They set the plates in front of us and walked off. We had to flag them down and tell them they gave us the wrong food., at which they promptly scooped it up to deliver to the correct table. Our food arrived - I'd ordered a Szechuan Beef dish (seemed safe) - it came out Cantonese style (soupy white sauce covering the whole thing) with black not szechuan pepper as seasoning. The entire time we were surrounded by dirty tables that no one made an effort to bus. To cap it off, about midway through our meal a couple of young women came into our dining area (we were the only ones in it) and used a nearby table to change their babies' diapers. They left the dirties right there on the table, an offering to the Food Gods no doubt. The perfect storm of understaffed and indifferent waitstaff, lousy cooking and clueless fellow diners. Most definitely give this place a miss. This place has traditional dim sum which is very rare. Everyone is used to Americanized Chinese food but these beautifully ornate dishes are small, ornate and delicious. Dim sum here makes for an incredible weekend brunch. The place is awesome and there is an extremely friendly hostess who has been at it for years. It took 90 minutes for our food order to be taken table who sat after us order was taken for them. never asked if we wanted another drink. Wrong meal came out for me. My friend never got her soup. It was three of us. Only one meal came out and my friend finished her meal before our food came... she waiting long enough we didn't want her food to get cold. Never again would I order there. It was not busy so we were extremely confused by the delay. It was like the sever was the cook, buffer and the person who took order.. we only saw two employees working the whole time we were there. Quite possibly (I take it back, based on the aftertaste, absolutely, yes it is) the worst Chinese takeout I've had in my entire life (and I am in my 50's). It was cold, it was greasy. The portions were miniscule. You practically need to use a microscope to see the crab rangoons. I've never seen egg rolls like this before. The top for the sauce for the egg foo young was sliced open (and it was some sort of dark watery stuff). Every other place I've ever been if you order two entrees you get double the rice. Not at Tai Pan Clifton Park you don't. The dim sum? Not only did it look disgusting, but it tasted like it was contaminated... with of all things... soap. SOAP. If I could get my money back I would. I am one person and usually I can stretch $30 of Chinese takeout for a week's worth of dinners (this was $38 before delivery fees/tip). This might make three meals (if I can even stomach it). I'm not really sure where to start on this one. We decided we wanted sit down Chinese food instead of takeout and came here because I had enjoyed it a few years back. This time, was super creepy, to be honest. The first table in the dining room was covered with piles of newspapers and other junk, half drank beverages were there, too. Looks like someone is actually living in the restaurant. What is with the giant folding wall thing in the front where we were seated, also? Hiding something? I was super weirded out but my boyfriend wanted to stay and see. My glass of water had lipstick marks on it so I obviously refused to touch it at all and did not ask for a different one, not knowing what else I would get. The silverware was all scratched up and old. The table was dirty and damaged, and the floors looked filthy. I wanted to leave. The food was fresh but I was so creeped out that I barely ate mine, wondering what the kitchen looked like back there. He liked his food, but we agreed we won't be back. No one was there, though a few people did pick up takeout orders. We were literally the only ones there on a weekday at the lunch rush. I am still bothered by the experience more than a week later. At this point, I am mostly just grateful that I did not get food poisoning. There is a lovely sit down place in Burnt Hills. We will be sticking to that one. Sorry, Tai Pan. The best Dim Sum in Capital region. I would recommend getting a soup or noodles and a number of dim sums. The selection is very good, and most of the food tastes authentic - like in Guangdong. Be aware that for average American taste buds spicy items can be a bit too spicy, thus you could get chrysanthemum tea to cool down. I liked steamed pork buns, duck soup, shrimp shumai and beef stomachs(we have ordered much more). Each portion of dim sum is relatively small, thus I would recommend ordering several. Also be prepared to wait a little bit - this is not a fast food place, and they cook everything only after you order. Oh, by the way, the owner and waitress are adorable! read more

I have been going to the Tai Pan for many years. I went with my family when I was little and forgot about it until a few months ago. How happy I was when I tried it again for the first time! One of my favorite things about this restaurant is how no matter when you go there are always seats available. It's not deserted or anything but it's not packed to the gills like most other Clifton Park restaurants on a weekend night. Food: I have never had a dish that I didn't like here. To disclose, I'm not a seafood lover so I haven't ventured beyond the steak and chicken options but they are probably as good as the things I have tasted. I don't have one favorite dish because I like trying new things each time but when I go with a group everyone is happy with their meals. Yes, this is not as authentic as a trip to Hong Kong but what they serve is good and a bit more creative than the usual Chinese place. Another detail about the food is the tea that's complimentary with your meals. It's wonderful. I'm not sure what type but it's flavorful and plentiful and hits the spot! as with most Chinese restaurants, there aren't a lot of dessert options but that's just as well seeing as though I'm usually packed to the gills by the end of dinner anyway. Service: There are waiters there when you need them and not when you don't. This is one of the benefits of a quiet place to have dinner or lunch. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Ambiance: The interior hasn't changed much since it was built in the 80's or early 90's(?). It is a little contemporary without being kitchy. No astrology place mats here. It is quiet for the most part but there are often large groups of diners there and it's not overly loud. And don't let the outside of the building scare you off because of the seemingly overgrown front. I believe "don't judge a book by it's cover" applies here. No it's not a life-changing meal but it is good food and reasonably priced. read more

Had a wonderful experience here! We had arrived in a bad mood and with no high expectations due to a bad experience at another local eatery. (Won't name names but we had waited 45 minutes at this other restaurant before being told that they had never actually put in our order) When we walked in, we were ravenous and in the mood for some good Chinese food, something we've missed since moving from Seattle 2 months ago and boy did this place deliver. Let me just say if you are expecting some fancy immaculate Chinese restaurant then you'll be disappointed. This place has a good old fashioned "hole in the wall" feel. Service is not slow. Maybe people are just used to the speed of McDonald's and other fast food chains but if you have any semblance of patience, you will nake it through dinner. The type of people complaining about the cleanliness are probably the same kind of people that would complain if they were in a dive bar. Sheesh. We ordered 2 entrees and barely finished half, even though it tasted great. Quality of food is better than your typical Chinese restaurant, and menu was a little more diverse as well. We ate here last year for lunch and I forgot to leave a review. This place was beyond dirty. If you look around and up at the ceiling you can see cobwebs and dust everywhere. It made me afraid of what the kitchen looks like. The food was disgusting. My chicken did not have the texture of regular chicken - it was very gelatinous. After many years of driving by, we finally decided to order from here. My husband and brother in law ordered sesame chicken and General tso's, and I had sweet and sour chicken. All with fried rice and egg rolls. Overall the food was pretty good. Very similar to most Chinese in the area. They don't include peas in their fried rice but instead have celery. The egg rolls are thinner than most and seem to be wrapped in a different type of dough. Don't know what's going on but the shu mai just isn't as good as before, and other dumplings just seems off. I still like this place and really appreciate the choices for dim sum that they have... but execution just isn't as good as I remembered. Perhaps they just had an off day? Or did the care and quality start to slip? Again, I only stop here for dim sum so I have no idea what their other food is like. Just thought I would write this update to express my new opinion. Still in my rotation but I need to go down to Flushing NY more often for good dim sum. read more
