This is hard, because I totally think that at the moment Saigon Spring is the best option for Vietnamese food in the Capital Region. From pho to bun to summer rolls, to shaking beef. It's all delicious. The beverage options are fantastic. They have bottles of Belgian style ales from around the world (Canada, Belgium, Cooperstown) and they have reasonably priced bottles of wine including a couple of selections from Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants. I do think they may be a bit understaffed. The service would be fine in a more rough around the edges, hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant. But Saigon Springs has heavy silverware, linen napkins, and beautiful menus. And the food is both presented and priced accordingly for an elevated experience. Servers were a bit harried, and it was challenging to wave someone down for a beer before dinner. At the table, we were eating family style, and really could have benefitted from a plate change between the appetizers and entrees. None of which is going to stop me from coming back as much as humanly possible. Especially during the summer. And now that I've discovered the delicious chicken salad, I'm going to be hard pressed to order anything else in the warmer months. Well, maybe one of those summer rolls filled with pork. A nice chilled bottle of white whine, the chicken salad, some summer rolls, and good company sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon or evening. The lunch I had at Saigon Spring was a pleasant surprise with more depth of flavor and texture than I expected from the nondescript strip mall location. We had a bunch of apps and entrees, and most of the things we ate were terrific. A brief overview: Skippable: summer rolls and spring rolls -- these were both a bit dry and flavorless with a strange sauce. Pretty good: shrimp salad, which was fairly well composed and not too skimpy with the poached shrimp Solid: beef ball pho, with a fragrant and delicate broth, though contents of the soup weren't especially amazing. Curry chicken was okay, with a rich creamy sauce, and the cubed beef lo luc has some great sauce. Must order: lemongrass mussel appetizer (AMAZING totally delicious curry sauce) and the roasted crispy half-chicken -- silky, moist meat inside and a crisp, flavorful skin. Pretty much all you want from a chicken, and the marinade they use is like the best of Southeast Asian aromatic flavors. Yes. Service was really friendly, the food came out pretty quickly, and the place is spacious and clean. Prices aren't bad -- $9-13 for most entrees, which are sized to share. Also, they have lots of delicious Vietnamese candies in the dish by the register and we enjoyed sampling all the exotic flavors. I would definitely come back, yum! read more

After reading other great reviews, we decided to come here for dinner and get our much-needed Vietnamese fix. We were not disappointed. From the hostess to the servers, the services was friendly, efficient and excellent. The food was no slouch either. We decided to go Family style and ordered spring rolls and summer rolls to start. Both were delicious. The spring rolls were perfectly crunchy on the outside with steaming hot and tasty pork filling on the inside. The summer rolls were generously stuffed with rice vermicelli, sprouts, and shrimp but of course lighter, as they are not fried. For main dishes, we shared the lemongrass beef and the crispy duck. Both were excellent, but my dad and I liked the duck best. For dessert, we shared the fried banana and vanilla ice cream. Everything was plated beautifully. I ordered a Singapore Sling-it was strong, but tasty. Others got Thai iced tea (should have gotten the Vietnamese coffee, but they'd have been up all night). We had arrived at the right time. The place was jam packed starting at 6pm. Clearly the locals know where to eat. As fans of vietnamese cuisine, it was nice to find this great place near our hotel. read more

It has been so long since I've been back here yelp says this is my first check in. Ha! But seriously was next door to buy furniture and could not pass up the opportunity. Ordered the beef lemongrass over vermicelli and the shredded tofu with other protein over flat noodles. Flavors were good and I love the large plates but relatively smaller portion sizes although to be honest I will always try to finish everything on my plate here. Yes! Vietnamese north of NYC that is pretty close to authentic! They've been here for a year and a half, but I had no idea....just happened to stumble in tonight. We started with the summer rolls...fresh and delicious. We shared a pot of tea....they have a lovely tea selection...no bad choices here. Main courses: Grilled salmon with steamed veggies and rice...the salmon was cooked perfectly with shredded ginger in a light fish sauce. The veggies are steamed just a tiny bit....they're crunchy, fresh and perfect (NOT smothered on sauce, oil or butter). Chicken curry - mild coconut milk based with a very nice (yellow) curry sauce. LOTS of surprisingly large, tender pieces of chicken with potatoes and onions. Delicious. Huge portion. So happy. Wait staff was great...service was very prompt. They are getting more popular, so if you plan on going on Friday or Saturday night, either get there early or make reservations. Can't wait to get back there and try more stuff. read more

This was a nice find on a trip out of Albany! I was craving pho, and Saigon Spring really hit the spot. They have a menu of all the greatest Vietnamese hits, from beef pho to bun. We started with the shrimp summer rolls, which were freshly made and a good portion size. I tried the "special noodle soup" for my main, which was a big bowl of pho with brisket, beef eye round, and beef ball. The broth was fantastic and really bright and complex. I loved the beef eye round and the beef balls, while the brisket was a bit too chewy. We also tried the spicy lemongrass beef soup, which wasn't too spicy despite our server's warning. Service was a little on the slow side (we had someone new come to our table basically every time we needed something), but the dining room was also pretty full at the time. Ever since trying out this Vietnamese restaurant a year ago, I've been coming back for more pho cravings. I recently went during Chinese New Year week and it was crowded af and the services wasn't that great because we waited like 10min for a waiter to take our order. Words don't do this place justice. I am from LA, one of the best food towns in the US and I would go as far as to say Saigon has the best pho I've ever eaten ANYWHERE! I've also tried their papaya salad, summer spring rolls and beef salad - all heavenly. Anytime I am in town, Saigon Spring is my first stop. Service is always on point and I've rarely had to wait for a table. My only note is I wish they were open longer hours and that they delivered but they are family owned, so I understand their priorities. This place is awesome. When you get in you get this luxury kind of vibe. When you get to sit down, the waiters come pretty fast to your table for drinks. The food is amazing. When I invite my parents over for dinner here, I pick them up from their house and then head over. They alway get the veggie and chicken stir fry. I suggest the "Shaking beef" and just the regular pho ga. But their pho is going downhill a bit. There is a bit too much fish sauce and the noodles are not as great of quality. Short story: Good food, quick service, attentive servers, gets busy during dinner hours especially on weekends. Take out is quick and always packaged well to travel. Better story: We've been going to this place for years. The employees are all no-nonsense and quietly polite. The atmosphere is on par with most Vietnamese restaurants - oriental music in the background, calming art work on the walls, and the heavenly scent of Pho soup wafting through the air. We typically order soup, but when I've ventured out to other dishes all the protein is cooked very well, the noodles are never soggy or under cooked, and the dishes are all flavored throughout. The pho is delivered with onions, cilantro, noodles, broth, and protein in the bowl and a side plate of bean sprouts, limes, jalapeño slices, and basil are brought for you to customize the soup. Sriracha and hoisin sauce are also brought to the table for soup, and if you didn't order soup and want them for something else, just ask. I can't remember them ever not being quick to honor a request from me. The fresh spring rolls are always rolled tightly and the rice paper is never overly soggy, torn, or hard. I'm pretty sure they are made to order every time. The pork seems to be shaved then cooked in a rich, savory seasoning, and cooled before being put in the rolls along with the other fillings. They used to have white table cloths, but opted for pain tables some point this last year. It was a sad loss as the table cloths really added an extra touch of comfort and sophistication, but I'd rather them ditch the table cloths than hike prices or worse, go out of business. Bonus: I went before and after having a kid. Now that my kid is a toddler, they were especially gracious about bringing out kid friendly utensils, a plastic cup with a lid and straw, and a small bowl. read more

Saigon Spring is a relatively big Vietnamese restaurant in the area, there are always plenty of people during the times I dine there, but I never have to wait to be seated. They have very friendly and patient staffs. The dishes come pretty quickly after you order, there is really not much of a downtime for waiting. One of their highlights in the menu is the soup noodles. They have far best the most tasty, authentic, and consistent soup noodles among the Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The soup is very flavorful, topped with very thin cut beef (types of meat depend on the dish you order). So after you submerge the medium rare beef slices in the soup, the beef slices are cooked just right. Another favorite for me is their Vietnamese coffee. They give you a cup with a layer of condensed milk in the bottom, on top of the cup, there's the coffee filter with grind coffee beans and hot water, which allows the coffee to be dripped down into the cup on the condensed milk. This way, although the coffee is made very slowly in front of you, the coffee is very concentrated, like an espresso shot. However, once the coffee is finished dripping from the top, and you mix it together with the condense milk, it was the best combo. The coffee was pretty strong, however, you only taste a hint of the bitterness because the sweetness of condense milk evens out the excessive bitterness in the coffee. The formula portion of coffee and condense milk is perfect. read more

My friends took me here for the first time this past weekend and Saigon Spring did not disappoint. I started out with the Shrimp Summer Roll, then had the Dumpling Soup, and finished with the Stir Fried Noodles with Chicken. The Summer Roll was beautiful, tasty, and exactly how I love them; with slices of shrimp, glass noodles, lettuce, carrots, etc. The dipping sauce was perfect and yummy with crushed peanuts. I could eat one is these every day for lunch if I lived closer. Next I got my Dumpling Soup which had shrimp and pork dumplings, as well as some noodles in the broth. This was also extremely delicious and I almost regretted getting the small bowl instead of having it as a large meal. Then my Fried Glass Noodles with Chicken came out, and it kind of reminded me of pad thai, which I wasn't expecting, but pleasantly surprised. It was both sweet and umptious. The primary difference was the inclusion of fresh basil, and mushrooms. It made the dish absolutely wonderful. I was also able to try a few of my friends dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious! Can't wait to go back and try some more. read more

She had a mask, kept her distance, and had two buckets for pens (one for cleaned and one for dirty). Flavor of the pho was salty- but in a good way, and probably one of the best in the area.
